You're right Wentworth - all diets work. They have to be sustainable and it's a marathon not a sprint. The weight doesn't go on overnight and it won't disappear over night either. The big loss at the beginning is generally glycogen being depleted and the water falls away, I'm fairly certain that the unhealthy fat surrounding our organs doesn't even start to diminish until the water loss slows down.

happygonicky · 11/01/2012 10:14

Encourgaing words. To be fair, the lapse could have been worse. At least it wasn't red wine and I stayed on track re food (mackeral pate and celery for dinner). Am not going to weigh myself till post period in case I lose hope (think last night's wobble largely PMT-related). I'm usually veggie (largely eating fish so I can dukan) and ham eating a couple of light baby bels and dairyleas a day. reckon this is OK?

Snapespeare · 11/01/2012 11:11

wentworth, I agree, it's the bread/spuds/rice that are the main enemy. I drink a terrible amount of wine tbh and should cut back substantially, so I'm going to limit/treat myself to a vodka or Gin/Tonic if I've had a particularly rough day. I've given up smoking at the same time as Dukaning, so things are tough enough without being super-strict with myself over a handful of peanuts or a glass of gin.

had glorious beef stir fry with hoisin sauce, extra garlic and ginger and a bunch of fried/microwaved veg yesterday for tea. It was glorious! going to have a non veg day today (i hope!) as have a lot of chicken breasts out of the freezer, so i can happily pick at them.

minceorotherwise · 11/01/2012 14:11

Shape...parallel lives! I stopped smoking too and had beef stir fry for dinner! Also drink to much wine so have substituted G&T. Nicorette fake fags with nicotine cartridges are really helping. Is tinned tuna ok, or does it have to be fresh?
Today so far....
Skim latte
Smoked salmon and scrambled eggs
Porridge ( oat bran and skim milk)

Snapespeare · 11/01/2012 14:14

really trying to not go down the route of NRT, although I guess a fake fag would be helpful for those difficult moments wher I run up to casual aquaintances, steal their cigarettes from their mouths and run away puffing furiously. this has only happened once. Blush

I am working on the basis that stopping smoking = a LOT of biscuits. in order to avoid the biscuits and associated weight gain, dukan it is. if i'm miserablei may as well be supremely miserable!

tinned is fine I think..

minceorotherwise · 11/01/2012 14:27

Ooh cold turkey...you can have that on Dukan ;)

Snapespeare · 11/01/2012 14:36

Grin that actually made me laugh. I think i'm in a carbohydrate deprived sense of near hysteria.

drywhiteplease · 11/01/2012 14:36

Hello dukans!
So far today (day 4 still on pp )
Galette with cottage cheese
Vanilla activia
Chicken breast in yogurt with tikka spices in...nice!

Is g+t better than wine then?
Think will do pp until weekend.i miss fruit.that will be 6 days.am finding this ok all in all though because I have not felt hungry.
Who mentioned chocolate digestives?!!!

Snapespeare · 11/01/2012 14:37

incidentally, my fingernails are all going to high buggery! very brittle and breaking off - any ideas around supplements or treatments, or do i just need to put up with it? :(

drywhiteplease · 11/01/2012 14:39

mince cold turkey v funny!

Lack of carbs good excuse to spend.....pair boots,3 tops and a hair cut so far!oooops

Alouisee · 11/01/2012 14:46

What's for dinner tonight? I've got braising steak or chicken breasts and I'm on pp today - could be a tandoori chicken thing I suppose, then kids could have rice and dh could be all fusion ish and have stir fried vegetables.

Braising steak can be casseroled tomorrow and served with cauli mash.

drywhiteplease · 11/01/2012 15:18

Turkey steaks but not sure what to do with then.bought some rosemary and garlic seasoning.might try that.after last night's success with Thai spices am tempted to do something with them.

Dastardly27 · 11/01/2012 18:15

Evening all! I am having steak and mustard tonight. Wednesday is a busy day. whispers that I now live in Dukan country!lol Got my son at English school on a Wednesday morning so I walk around Versailles and then usually plays round someones house, or they're here on the afternoon so never get to sit down really until now - 1900. I make a pastry less bacon and egg quiche and have that in the fridge so it's always there if an attack of the munchies come. Was going to have chicken curry today but no chance to make it so that is definitely on the menu tomorrow!

Dastardly27 · 11/01/2012 18:25

never realised putting the little star thing would make it bold type! Ah well, if I get kicked out I get kicked out!lol

drywhiteplease · 11/01/2012 18:33

dastardly v exciting secret location.i know it well.you are in perfect spot for lo carb diet then you lucky thing.i was brought up on French food (whispers fr parent) and stodgy food only really appeared in my life when I left home then started "grown up" socialising and discovered banoffie pie (the devil's food!)I have best friend with terrible sweet tooth who loves cooking ESP puddings with loads cream, sugar etc and we are due to go there in 2 weeks.i don't know how to tackle that as don't want to offend or be boring and say I am on diet.
Anyway pastry less quiche sounds fab.

drywhiteplease · 11/01/2012 18:46

Btw everyone thank you this thread is keeping me going, I really don't think I could do it without you (and no I haven't hit the booze !)

Dastardly27 · 11/01/2012 18:47

I am not telling anyone I am on a diet either. I started Dukan last year, got my friend to do it, and I gave up and she continued and is now 3 stones lighter! Would your friend be offended if you didn't have pudding? My in-laws (French) always have a dessert and I often turn it down. Granted it's usually a yogurt or (yummily) a crème but they don't get offended. Not a dessert person anyone. More a whole baguette one!lol You could always say that you think you have wheat allergy so are avoiding anything containing wheat just to see.

Dastardly27 · 11/01/2012 18:49

don't hit the booze. I put a kg on last week because of it. Weighed myself Saturday morning and 2.4kg down. Drank wine. Weighed myself Monday morning and only 1.4kg down. Made me realise, at least for now, that I can't cheat whilst eating the Dukan way.

minceorotherwise · 11/01/2012 18:49

What can I do for dinner? Have chicken or tuna (tin of) and all sorts of herbs etc, fromage frais, yoghurt etc etc??? Starving, any ideas ?????

Dastardly27 · 11/01/2012 18:58

Am useless at flavouring anything. If it was me I would be having chicken and mustard!

minceorotherwise · 11/01/2012 18:59

Had that last night.....

drywhiteplease · 11/01/2012 19:51

Do my curry thing.i am having turkey with harrissa in yogurt as a sauce but you could use curry spices. I have a big pot of fresh basil and am needing inspiration for tomorros. Maybe make a kind of pesto sauce with some garlic and f frais. One of you said that if food is tasty it keeps you going.so true.

dastardly agree about baguette....with proper French butter and ham......yum!
Also I think abstinence in France is seen as a virtue,in England we eat till we are 'stuffed' and see 'good' eaters as kill joys.My friend will be ok as she is trying to over come a licorise all sorts addiction so will be doing ww soon!

minceorotherwise · 11/01/2012 20:18

Thanks dry white, have made the curry! Will let you know how it turns out!

WentworthMillerMad · 11/01/2012 20:36

Hi - lovely thread and I Love reading all the new ideas!
Tonight was another protein day - had smoked salmon with lime juice, lots of black pepper. Then my meatballs with masses of dark French mustard, cornichons and a pickled onions. Listerine mouthwash for dessert ha ha!
Tg tomorrow is a PV day. I do pp mon, tue and wed and then 4 PV days.
Have some chicken thighs for tomorrow night marinated in grain mustard, garli, basil, lemon juice - with rocket salad and balsamic dressing.
Friday in an asparagus and chicken stirfry with lots of ginger. Can't wait for the veg!
drywhite yes gin is zero carbs and much less cals than wine BUT even with a sugar free mixer it has calories so if you want quick result avoid like plague.

dastardly notice my French themes!

Well done giving up smoking snape and mince - did the same a few years ago. Better to have a vodka and slimline than a fag.
It's red wine I miss most.
Ooh if I am desperate for choc I have a square of 85% cocoa - ok on Atkins but not with Pierre. Again high cal but better than 15 quality streets
