GI/GL Diet Support Thread - It's 2006!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The shiny new thread folks !

I'm planning to carry on posting my progress on a Monday, but anyone else who want to should choose a day they feel most comfy with.

I'm going to have a look at the GL diet properly in the next couple of weeks and see where it is similar/different and whether I should change anything now that I am closer to target.

I am aiming to lose another stone (that would be 8 stone in total), but I'd love to get another 2 off where I'd be fitting in a size 10 (I think). I need to see how I look and feel after a stone though as 2 may be going too far.

Good Luck everyone, I personally really appreciate the support of this thread - it has got me where I am now .

poor you but how sad am I being vaguely envious that you might have something that will "melt it all away" Grin

Hope you feel better soon, do you get the impression we're the only ones leftont his thread?

Just popped in to say hello, I have been following your progress but feel too embarassed to post much as you must all wonder quite what I'm doing taking months and months to lose a few pounds Blush. I was sort of maintaining weight okay before Easter and not trying to lose any. Didn't do too badly on holiday for a week but did very badly when my brother and sister in law came to stay for a few days. So I'm back to it mostly just trying to follow GI principles. I am changing my exercise routine a bit also to do more weights and less cardio in the hope that that might shift those last few pounds. However basically I'm coming to accept that my life will always be a cycle of gain a bit lose a bit Grin.

Sounds like you are both doing well (minus the odd blip Grin Grin).

colette · 20/04/2006 18:12

Saker - that sounds very similar to me . I don't have much to lose but it all seens to be around my middle and loads of cellulite Blush I have been lurking as well but will start properly and get back to exercising.
Melbob 1.5lb is great

puff · 21/04/2006 00:52

ooh, good to see some more people on here.

I'm finding this last stone or so tough, and it shouldn't be should it? If I can lose 7stone, I can lose 14 - 20 lbs surely????

Ho hum, I need to get focused again!

Hello Grumpy, how are you doing?

I'm not being too bad on the food front and very good on the exercise front and hoping it will work miracles Grin.

Saker · 03/05/2006 20:46

Popped in again as you looked lonely - where is everyone else? Smile

Hello low GI girls
Can I come on for some advice?

I lost 5lbs on a sensible eating and low carb and lots of exercise diet recently but I have another 5lbs to go and I fancy a change. I plan to follow the diet plan on the Sunday Times website from January and it all looks fine but what about snacks? I have to have snacks, and I know there must be some that are OK. What do you recommend?

KBear · 07/05/2006 14:26

100 calories snacks with more than 5% fat include:

1oz Brazil Nuts
1oz mixed nuts and raisins
3.5oz olives
1/2 avocado
1.5 oz houmous

1 mini Aero
1 treatsize Cadbury's Fudge
1 fun size Milky Way
1 2-finger Kit Kat

100 calories snacks with less than 5% fat include:

Hmm - bit tricky here because the things they list are branded stuff from UK supermarkets but are:

1 Low fat cereal bar
1 Toffee iced desert
1 low fat carrot cake
10 snackajacks

Want more?

suzywong · 07/05/2006 14:27

oh thanks Smile
do I recall oatcakes featuring on the list?
ANd what about fruit, it any of it verboten?

forgot to mention the alcohol treats!!!

1 glass of wine
1 double measure of spirit with diet mixer
1/2 pint of cider

Fruit is good, go easy on the bananas apparently, the more ripe they are the higher GI.

Oakcakes good too but I don't know how many cals they are.

suzywong · 07/05/2006 14:37

fantastic, is that a glass of wine a day????
I'm not very good at calorie counting though, would you recommend two snacks a day in addition to three meals?

I am doing the Rosemary Conley GI Jeans Diet.

1500 cals per day allocated like this....

3/4 pt semi or skimmed milk = 200 cals
Breakfast = 200 cals (I have porridge - fills me up til lunch)
Lunch = 300 cals
Dinner = 500 cals
1 power snacks = 100 cals (this should be a piece of fruit morning and afternoon)
1 treat = 100 cals
1 Alcoholic drink = 100 cals

you can save your treats and alcohol for the weekend if you want.

It's pretty easy. I lost 10lbs in 7 weeks.

KBear · 07/05/2006 14:43

And eat nothing that contains more than 5% fat per 100g.

Saker · 07/05/2006 14:45

Snacks could be cottage cheese, oatcakes, piece of fruit (if you eat some seeds or nuts with it you will lower the GL), yoghurt with sweeteners if you don't mind sweeteners, bowl of soup, not really sure about aeros and kit kats being truly low GI though Grin.

Saker · 07/05/2006 14:46

Well done though Kbear - sounds like you are doing very well.

KBear · 07/05/2006 15:50

I have hit the wall this week though Saker - it was going really well but then I needed chocolate! I didn't have much but I can't have just a fun size anything - where's the fun in that? I am back on the wagon now though and hoping to have lost two pounds this week!

Saker · 07/05/2006 16:11

Sometimes I think it is better to pig out properly, get it out of your system then continue on. As long as you don't do it very often....Grin

I agree tiny amounts just help to remind you how good things taste!

puff · 07/05/2006 22:26

Hi folks, disappeared for a while, my Dad has been quite unwell, hopefully on the mend now.

My weight has stayed the same for the last couple of weeks which I'm relieved about as I've been completely out of my routine.

I'm going on holiday in a few weeks, so would like to shift some of these last few pounds.
