GI/GL Diet Support Thread - It's 2006!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The shiny new thread folks !

I'm planning to carry on posting my progress on a Monday, but anyone else who want to should choose a day they feel most comfy with.

I'm going to have a look at the GL diet properly in the next couple of weeks and see where it is similar/different and whether I should change anything now that I am closer to target.

I am aiming to lose another stone (that would be 8 stone in total), but I'd love to get another 2 off where I'd be fitting in a size 10 (I think). I need to see how I look and feel after a stone though as 2 may be going too far.

Good Luck everyone, I personally really appreciate the support of this thread - it has got me where I am now .

Hi!I am new on this site-never heard for it until a month ago when my friend told me about it!!Blush....I find all of you very supportive which actually inspired me a lot.. I weight 87kg-not sure how many stones is that, but i was 97kg and lost 9kg with GI-diet in 2mnths. Than something happend in me and i lost motivation completly. That happened in march-good part of it i didn't gain any weight but i will if i don't find confidence again. Don' want my bp to be high again and i realy wanna feel energetic the way i did while i was on the diet...
I have 3-4 books about GI diet, but can someone give me sample of one day-including snacks and exercise.....THANK YOU

puff · 03/04/2006 14:56

Hi womanfire - well done on the weightloss, and for keeping it off!

A typical day for me:

Bkfst - porridge or muesli

Snack - couple of pieces of fruit and a few nuts or seeds

Lunch - 3 oatcakes or some rye crispbreads plus salad and houmus or maybe tuna and olives and a mug of homemade veg soup (I usually freeze this in small portion sizes)

Snack - small pot cottage cheese and crudites, a few nuts or seeds

Dinner - either something from Anthony Worral Thompsons book or a chickpea/bean/lentil based dish with salad

Exercise - I go to the gym 3 times a week

It really works when I stick to it (have lost over 7 stones), although things have slowed up recently - I've been going out for meals rather a lot!

Oh and I lost the 2lbs this week

melbob · 03/04/2006 20:06

Hi all well done puff. Hello womanfire and welcome. I am in a simlar position to you in that I lost some weight but then lost motivation until a coupleof weeks ago when I regained it. Having said that I put on 2lbs this week! But 2 days away on course and culunary disaster by DH resulting on egg and chips for tea explains it all

puff · 03/04/2006 20:35

It's really hard to stick to an eating plan when you're out of your usual routine - I had a 2 day course a couple of weeks ago and everything went to pot!

What I do know is that once I have reached that magical target, GI is such an easy way to maintain my weight which is a relief!

I have worked on losing a little, then maintaining that loss then coming back to lose more. I also combine it with weightwatchers online, as I am hopeless with portions and enjoy (?) the discipline that points counting involves - plus if I plan ahead I lose weight. I find that gardening for half an hour is as good an exercise as anything when you cannot face the gym or bike or dvd.
I love the Davina McCall exercise dvd - 3x 30 minute workouts.

puff · 03/04/2006 20:53

I think the losing a little, maintaining, then losing a little is a good approach for my last 14/20lbs. Good tip piffle Smile.

After 3 mths of diligence I've cracked it!!!
I could not get below my plateau weight - now in the last few days I've lost a whole kg in one go! I am so much closer now!
I am so chuffed - it has been really really hard work. I'm not overweight in a strict sense but I'm heavier than my ideal weight - plus I'm trying to lose weight to se if it reduces my bust to a decent level!
Here is hoping xxxxxxxxxxxxx

melbob · 06/04/2006 20:35

Well done piffle

puff · 10/04/2006 11:50

Well done Piffle SmileSmile!!

I think I have reached a plateau (poss inevitable after such a huge weight loss), so I know this last stretch isn't going to happen quickly.

I lost a pound this week.

OP posts:
melbob · 10/04/2006 19:57

1.5lbs this week. which is a bit disappointing but better than nothing.

Well done puff you're bound to find the last stone hardest your body will be holding on to it for dear life!

puff · 10/04/2006 20:01

lol melbob - it's not melting away easily that's for sure!

1.5lbs is a good weight loss - well done Smile

ok guys, I have pigged out major league this weekend, not on chocolate, but other yum things, including a meal out Friday, take away chinese saturday, champagne "high" tea and roast dinner yesterday Shock.

Braved the scales this morning and had put on 3lbs. Ho hum it was all delicious and I shall get back on track tomorrow.

Do feel very seedy after all the rich food though!

melbob · 19/04/2006 22:50

Puff sounds similar to my weekend and now am away for long weekend and its my birthday. Hav eput on three pounds too

puff · 19/04/2006 22:53

sort of glad it's not just me melbob!

Mind you, I now have food poisoning so maybe those pounds will er....melt away!

My advice would be - go have a damned good birthday. I think I put on 6lbs over my long birthday weekend last year, but soon got it off again.

Have a lovely time Smile

OP posts:
melbob · 19/04/2006 23:06

poor you but how sad am I being vaguely envious that you might have something that will "melt it all away" Grin
