GI/GL Diet Support Thread - It's 2006!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The shiny new thread folks !

I'm planning to carry on posting my progress on a Monday, but anyone else who want to should choose a day they feel most comfy with.

I'm going to have a look at the GL diet properly in the next couple of weeks and see where it is similar/different and whether I should change anything now that I am closer to target.

I am aiming to lose another stone (that would be 8 stone in total), but I'd love to get another 2 off where I'd be fitting in a size 10 (I think). I need to see how I look and feel after a stone though as 2 may be going too far.

Good Luck everyone, I personally really appreciate the support of this thread - it has got me where I am now .

Stayed the same this week, ultra-stressed so that's my excuse - supposed to be moving this Fri but it's all gone pearshaped. Been pretty piggy and haven't got back on track yet tbh

melbob · 21/02/2006 19:47

Sounds like you both did well. Everyone else seems to have to disappeared

Saker · 21/02/2006 22:19

Puff did say she would be offline for a while. Come back everyone else

Saker · 21/02/2006 22:20

And actually looking back Grumpy is only weighing every 2 weeks so that is most of us!

melbob · 22/02/2006 21:32

Have had to have 2 lots of steroids in the last week which havenot helped.

Saker · 23/02/2006 10:26

I should think they haven't ! You have really done well to stay the same.

Every day's a new day .

franch · 26/02/2006 12:46

Well done for getting back on track grumpy - I'm not doing too well, we'll see on Mon but being asked if I was pregnant the other day didn't help

AntheaTurnerPuff · 27/02/2006 17:46

Hi all, haven't been online much over the last couple of weeks, so apologies.

During my week away I put on 3lb - then I lost the weight over about 5 days.

So far this week has been a nightmare - I have been scoffing chocolate and toffees and ate toast about midnight last night.

Aaaagggrhh!!

Psychologically I have reached a "I have lost over 7 stone" plateau methinks!

I'd love to get the rest of the weight off by my birthday (May) - 20lbs would be good.

I need to inspire myself!

It sounds like you have both done well. I hit a bad patch this week as well although my weight got down a bit lower it seems so slow and I was just longing for something stodgy so I decided to take Saturday evening off and got a Chinese take away. I did pig out with some icecream and beer as well but when I weighed this morning I was 3lbs heavier Shock. It just seems so unfair that it can take two weeks to lose one pound and one evening to put on three! I know it's not physically possible in theory but it's very demoralising and makes me despair how I can ever go onto maintenance without just piling it back on again.

AntheaTurnerPuff · 27/02/2006 20:40

I know what you mean Saker - when/if I get to my ideal weight, I'd like to be able to eat what I want (without going mad) on a Friday evening, Saturday evening and then enjoy a reasonable Sunday lunch. All other times, sticking to sensible low GI.

I don't know whether that will work - it may be a tad over the 80/20 rule!

Saker · 27/02/2006 21:30

Yes, but not feeling that you have to be on a strict diet the rest of the time to balance it out. I hope that when we do move on to maintaining that though there will be an initial gain, it will then level out. But that is why I keep trying to get a bit lower to sort of allow for the levelling out. Trouble is I never seem to get there Smile.

melbob · 28/02/2006 01:03

Hi now everyone give yourselves a break. You haev all done brilliantly and I aspire to your achievements. I thik the whether and the february gloom is just not conducive to dieting. I am now off for a week and planing to rethink. Asthma has been appalling for last month hence steroids and I did the warm up on Harvey (fit club) DVDyesterday and had an attack. Don't know what its all about so am going to use week off to refocus and set new plan. plus have a lovely time with DS and DH. Visit friends in devon and get a life.

Keep going everyone it will all be worth it in the end and you've come so far.

Saker · 28/02/2006 10:25

Have a lovely break Melbob. Hope your asthma gets better soon.

Saker · 28/02/2006 10:27

PS I weighed this morning and I have gained 3 lbs since last week. Sad. It all feels a bit hopeless at the minute but hopefully it will come off quickly.

AntheaTurnerPuff · 28/02/2006 15:23

melbob, have a good holiday - sounds like you really need the break.

Saker - I'm finding it tough too at the mo - bitterly cold weather not helping I'm sure - I'm dreaming of stodge!!!

AntheaTurnerPuff · 28/02/2006 19:21

grumpy - I usually make up and freeze some batches of different soups so that when I'm too tired to cook, I zap one of these in the micro - you've reminded me that I haven't done this for a couple of weeks so methinks its time to get the soup pan out!

franch · 01/03/2006 15:01

Sounds like most of us are struggling at the moment - I didn't lose anything last week either but seem to have put an inch back on my stomach and waist. Found the "Are you pregnant?" comment a big knock-back and very de-motivating at a stage when I have only 4.5lb to lose - seems like it's come off everywhere (esp boobs of course) except where I need it to, so my target weight doesn't seem like the cure-all that it once did.

Anyway, spring is on the way so let's give ourselves a pat on the back for getting this far and a kick up the butt to keep on going :)

Saker · 01/03/2006 20:00

Had a shockingly bad day today, started with too many Nairn's oatcakes and went downhill from there Blush. However fresh resolutions from tomorrow - I am determined but I might try not to weigh myself for a couple of weeks because I get a bit obsessed by the scales and then it demotivates me if I am not getting results.

Saker · 01/03/2006 20:02

Franch - I think many women have been asked if they were pregnant before when not - I certainly have - I think a lot of it can be what you are wearing or how you are standing. I can recommend sit ups for tightening up those abs though - you can get results with surprisingly few!

AntheaTurnerPuff · 02/03/2006 13:28

Hear hear franch!!!

Ok folks, I'm going to stop faffing over losing this last bit of weight.

I'm setting myself a target of getting a stone off by the end of April - about 1.5 lbs a week, so not too ambitious I hope.

Technically, I'd be at target as I'd have lost just over 8 stone, but I'll see what jeans size I am - if it's a 12 I'll be happy!

I'm having a much better few days - got the soup pan out and feel back on track.

butty · 06/03/2006 10:42
