Oops we're full up again! Hope it's OK to start a new thread. Come on Jillian devotees, let's keep up the good work and the great results!

Ooh yay Happypiglet we can start Ripped/Killer together! (Am planning on starting with Ripped as it seems the slightly less scary of the 2, based on the reviews I've seen and feedback on here).

Couldn't face Jillian today so as a "break" did Davina's Superfit. Really quite pleasant to do a workout that made me nicely out of breath and sweaty without feeling like my lungs were about to explode / arms and legs about to give way! (Amusingly I thought that workout was pretty hard in my pre-Jillian days Grin).

chocolateshoes · 17/02/2012 12:35

3Steps - can you balance a qurter on your buns?????
Venetia - backwards is a nightmare isn't it - have you noticed that in the 2nd set Basheera has to put her hands down? That did make me feel better.

I hate L4circuit2 Ripped, I really do.

Keep going everyone!

BornToShopForcedToWork · 17/02/2012 12:51

I just ordered the DVD from Amazon, so once the DVD arrives in 3-5 business days I am hopefully still able to comment on this tread.

threestepsforward · 17/02/2012 13:18

Jacksterbear that's good to know your fitness has improved even though Jillian stuff never seems to feel easier, how is that though?!? I'm just the same...

Chocshoes, I wish... Grin

Welcome Borntoshop, let us know when your DVD arrives and how Day 1 goes Smile

Day 4 of L3 Ripped later today. I've fallen over backwards twice on the backward duck bit Venetia, so have started putting my arms down too. I've noticed Basheera cheats during those roll backs and back up to feet as well - she puts her far hand down, presumably thinking we can't see!

Everyone's doing brilliantly, Jillian would be most proud!

Will check in over the weekend...it's the weekend, yay Smile

Happypiglet · 17/02/2012 13:47

Jackster that would be great think I will need some moral support! Duck walks sound hmmm interesting!

CHST · 17/02/2012 19:26

Can I join? I have been lurking through this whole thread in case I decided to give up! Blush I have done the 30 day shred and was really happy with the results, especially with the mid section. I am pants at proper push ups but I can do 10 now...big improvement from the none when I first started! I just go to my knees when I can't do any more. I also bought banish fat, boost metabolism and have braved that twice...7 circuits instead of the 3 in shred. Eeek I was dripping with sweat and it kicked my butt. I missed the every day shorter workouts so got ripped in 30. Did day 2 of level 1 today. Can I ask how you are supposed to do this? She says at the beginning 5 to 6 times a week but nothing about how many for each level. I was thinking 6 times each level and a rest day before moving up..does this sound right or should I be doing each level more than that?

BornToShopForcedToWork · 17/02/2012 19:32

threesteps

Thank you. I ordered some books later on Amazon for next day delivery and they will send the DVD with the books. So depending when it will come I am able to start either tomorrow or on Sunday.

notyummy · 17/02/2012 19:34

CHST - sounds sensible to me! Always good to see a new JM sufferer on here.....

Crostrainer session today and double ripped tomorrow. Eek!

Happypiglet · 17/02/2012 19:53

So just done L3 of 30DS which I actually found easier than when I tried it on my first 30DS outing last summer. I think the BFBM DVD is helping my CV fitness massively. I actually managed mountain climbers on high impact mode!! A first. And also that elbow to hand plank thingy not on my knees... It is rewarding to see some progress. However jumping lunges are still beyond my thighs..I did half of the first circuit and then had to wuss out and do the low impact version.
Feeling good tho!

notyummy · 17/02/2012 20:35

They are awful aren't they Piglet. I can finish them, but my legs are SCREAMING by the end!

Happypiglet · 17/02/2012 21:00

Mine are still screaming an hour later!!!

threestepsforward · 17/02/2012 21:26

God yes jumping lunges are awful. You'll have more of those to look forward to in Ripped happypiglet!

Careless how did you get on with the first Ripped session?

Welcome CHST Smile. You sound like a fully-fledged Jillian devotee! Fantastic stuff getting through Shred and BFBM. Now the fun of Ripped awaits you Grin

Day 4 L3 Ripped done. The jumping lunges ain't getting any easier!!

It's been so busy on this thread, fantastic Smile

Did anyone notice around New Year the lack of visibility of Jillian stuff in the magazine reviews / in the stores? The mags seemed to be really promoting and reviewing the "celebrity" fitness dvds and almost nothing I saw about JM. Thought it was a shame as her stuff is so good.

CHST · 17/02/2012 21:48

:) thanks for the welcomes. I feel scared at the later levels! I have tried duck walks just to prepare myself as everyone said they are awful. I can do forward no problem but my legs do not seem to want to co operate moving backwards! It's great motivation finding other people doing the same! I didn't think I would stick with it as things seem to get in the way. I got up at 6:30 this morning to get the workout in before dh went to work. I find I do much better if I do it first thing...the more the day goes on, the harder it gets to motivate myself. During the shred, there were a couple of days I had to give myself a pep talk to do it. When do you guys work out best?

knottyhair · 18/02/2012 09:40

Hi all! Totally agree about the jumping lunges but just to add I used to do mostly the beginner version and can now do a full set of proper ones although I want to die afterwards, so stick at it! Did L2 Ripped this morning - still find that first set of cardio really tough! Also have very clicky shoulders whilst doing the backwards windmills in the warm up. Did feel OK during though, not like on Thursday. Just had to drop down to 2kg for the serving biceps when I can normally stick to 3kg for the whole workout. Still getting back to normal I guess. CHST, I definitely prefer to work out in the morning as then I'm "free to go and have an awesome day" Grin. (Quote from L2 Ripped in case you haven't seen it - I don't actually talk like that Blush)

OP posts:
notyummy · 18/02/2012 12:24

DH and I have just done all of L3 and L4 Ripped. God, that was hard. Did 3 kg apart from weighted supermen where i dropped down, and single legged squat where I went up, and the chest fly and bridge at the end if L4 where I went up. Those tricep press ups- ouch!!

gingercat12 · 18/02/2012 13:17

I finished 30DS yesterday. By the end I could see a lot of improvement, but I still only use 1kg weights.

Today was my first Killer Bun session. Am dead. Shockingly enough I gave everything. Even did high knees very rapidly. Obviously with the harder exercises it takes a while to work out how and what I am supposed to do.

During the week I'll do Ripped, as it seems slightly shorter.

Will try to use the tape measure, but I can literally see the difference in my clothes. Today even the scales were very kind to me.

Next week I shall buy some nice colourful sports bras to match my wonderful yoga mat. I am mking it all as enjoyable and quality time as possible.

gingercat12 · 18/02/2012 13:18

notyummy I quite envy you exercising with DH. I could not do it with mine, he is so fit (in more than one way Grin).

chocolateshoes · 18/02/2012 13:28

CHST - I much prefer doing my workout first thing but hate getting up any earlier than I have to, so on work days don't manage to do it until the evening once DS is in bed. However on my day off and the weekend I usually let DS have Scooby Doo on my laptop after breakfast so I can get on. It is apparently much better for you to workout in the morning as it boosts your metabolism for the rest of the day. I'm glad to get it out of the way!!

Gingercat - I agree, I always feel envious of Notyummy getting her DH to do JM. There's no way my DH would. He runs & goes to the gym & I think he thinks JM must be pretty easy. I'd love to see him suffer!

Day 5 L4 Ripped done. Still hate circuit 2. Will have to start making plans for what to do next......any ideas? I haven't really got time to fit in double JM.....

jellibelli · 18/02/2012 14:17

Hello there!

Notyummy saw mw on another thread about 30DS so I thought I'd come back to say hello as I used to be regular on these threads.

I am currently doing Ripped and have done day 2 today. I am now feeling nervous about levels 3 and 4 now! Since doing 30DS I did 6w6p and also have BFBM and NMTZ. I will be attempting KillerBuns next.

DH does the DVDs with me too. He is pretty fit too and has been urging me to exercise for years, which I happily ignored Hmm so I think he thought he would humour me and join in with my little DVD and was a bit surprised. It turns out he's not so flexible!!

jellibelli · 18/02/2012 14:26

Ooops! It just posted itself!

Anyway, having conceded they are not that easy, DH now uses the DVDs with me as part of his fitness routine, although obviously with heavier weights than me, likewise when we run he put ankle weights on as he is much faster than me, bless. It's great having him as a training partner, it's a good thing to share. We are currently considering going to Europe somewhere for a half marathon weekend away. Eeeek!

Will try to drop in on the thread more often.

notyummy · 18/02/2012 17:24

ginger- even if your DH is seriously fit (!!) you can exercise together. Running is difficult (childcare for one) but different levels of fitness can make it impossible to run together, but circuit training like Jillian is suitable for all levels. DH is a military officer with 41 min 10k time and a 1 hr 40 min half marathon, plus he attends military circuit training sessio s (translation.. he is pretty damn fit) but JM ready pushes him. He lifts heavier weights than me and finds it tough. He was talking to one of the military physical trainers the other week and showing him some of the ripped moves ( duck walk) to him so he could include them in his session!

I can't run with dh as he is too fast for me. (I like to think I am no slouch with a sub 50min 10k and a 1 hr 46 half marathon though.)

Because I served in the military and had done some pretty tough military training there, I think DH knew that if I said something was pretty tough (when I first started talking about Jillian) then it probably wasn't a wooster workout. We used to do Billy Blanks Boot Camp DVD together too!

Happypiglet · 18/02/2012 17:49

Hi jellibelli I am awaiting Killer Buns and Ripped from Amazon with eager anticipation. Doing L3 Shred at mo (day 2 today) and finding it OK but still struggle with bits of it. My thighs find it tough going! Buns are my problem area so Killer Buns sounds up my street. Quite happy with my abs.
DH is keen to look at some of the abs stuff as he struggles to tone up in that area despite being very fit CV wise. He ran his 12 mile hell runner in minus 8 degrees last week in one hour 34 mins which is good especially as it includes a chest high water 'feature' two miles from the end. Mad man!! Wink
I think the plank abs stuff is amazing especially the plank twists my obliques have firmed up no end.
CHST I much prefer to work out in the morning but managed L3 today at 2pm. I too like to get it out of the way and get calories 'in the bank' so to speak!

threestepsforward · 18/02/2012 18:02

Welcome back jellibelli Smile Good to see you again!

I did get DP into Shredding for a while, but work has taken over for him so the routine's slipped a bit. He really enjoyed it and was gobsmacked a 20 min workout could have such massive results!

I prefer to do my torture in the afternoon/evening as just don't feel like I have enough energy first thing in the morning, definitely not a morning person!

Notyummy, wow!!! You are double hard doing double levels Grin. There is just no way I could imagine doing levels 3 & 4 of Ripped back to back!

Day 5 done here... 2 more days then on to the dreaded level 4... After I've finished Ripped I think I will do a few weeks of Killer Buns mixed up with BFBM, which I haven't done for ages.

CHST · 18/02/2012 19:00

Happy I love the plank twists! Three steps do you do each level for 7 straight days or do you take breaks?
Day 3 level 1 done this morning.
Chocolate have you heard of bodyrock tv? I haven't done anything from there but they have short, intense work outs that look pretty cool. I think they set challenges for every day for a month and I think they are less time even than Jillian

threestepsforward · 18/02/2012 20:13

I had a few false starts with Ripped CHST due to a dodgy knee, but I'm doing 7 days at each level, plus however many days rest, usually 1 a week unless I'm away. I'm going right through this level without a break as I took 3 days off last weekend, and will take a break before starting L4...gulp!!

Bodyrock sounds interesting. I think there's so much to be said for these shorter workouts. I reckon they keep many more people at it than the longer ones as they're so quickly done and finished! You lose interest with the longer ones as they take such a chunk of the day...I know that's true for me!

Well done on day 3, level 2 fast approaching!

Have a great rest of weekend all Smile
