Oops we're full up again! Hope it's OK to start a new thread. Come on Jillian devotees, let's keep up the good work and the great results!

McPie · 19/02/2012 15:14

I hate the kids being on holiday it messes with my workout plans, well that and the lure of my new kenwood mixer! I have 5 missed 30mins from last week but thankfully they go back on tuesday and being skint until the 28th means I should be able to fit them in in no time.

Happypiglet · 19/02/2012 16:23

I know mcpie half term has cut my exercise right down too. But new week tomorrow! Planning to do something either L3 Shred or BFBM or NMTZ every day mon to fri.
Having done L3 two days in a row my buttocks really ache! So just a walk round country park today- although it was at a brisk pace trying to keep up with the three DC on their bikes! slightly undone by tea and cake though!
DH may run after kids in bed so might try something then if I can be bothered.. But not L3 my rear cannot cope!

chocolateshoes · 19/02/2012 16:45

ah you see McPie & Happy as a teacher half-term has been a big bonus for my regime as I've managed to do Ripped most mornings. Back to the evenings as of tomorrow. I usually do 5 days of JM, 1 tabata and then 1 rest day and that seems to work for me.

Hadn't heard of Bodyrock CHST - will have a look - thanks.

I think I'll end up doing level4 for a fortnight rather than 7 days and then will need to do something different as I do find my body seems to plateau once it gets used to the routine.

Am finding that L4 is taking its toll on my abs which can only be a good thing!!

notyummy · 19/02/2012 16:52

My shoulders and upper arms are stiff are Ls3 and 4 Ripped yesterday. It is obviously quite hard on the arms, even though I used less weight than I would in the Shred. Mainly 3kg. The tricep push ups, pike push ups and single armed side push ups are all responsible I think!

Managed a 5 mile run this AM. Nothing tomorrow and either a run or JM on TUesday.

Glad to see you are giving Tabata a go Choc - I meant to do it at least once a week in 2012, but have done it precisely twice thus far Blush.

threestepsforward · 19/02/2012 18:34

Had a pub lunch today, fish and chips. The piece of fish was huuuuge! And delicious Grin

Day 6 of L3 done...one more to go, hurray!

Watched through L4 to prepare myself. I always watch them through before and think oh that looks okay (did that when I watched L3), and usually find I'm very wrong!

Notyummy I'm not surprised you're aching a bit today!

Can I ask people who've done L3 and L4 of Ripped which level they've found the hardest?

Compared with Shred I've found the cardio in Ripped generally much tougher.

CHST · 19/02/2012 19:09

You guys are doing so well!!! Did day 4 today of level 1.
Can I ask what tabata is? People seem to talk about it a lot but don't know what it is

notyummy · 19/02/2012 19:24

CHST - Look here.

Basically 8 intervals. 20 secs maxi effort (and I mean completely giving it everything) followed by 10 seconds recovery x 8 = 4 minutes. Doesn't sound too bad, but if you are doing it properly you will start to feel like you are going to die by about 2 minutes in. I am usually dizzy by the end. DH has thrown up in the past. The cardio work is culmanative, so it gets harder and harder and a 10 sec recovery time isn't enough. Really revs up the metabolism. You can do it with sprinting, on a bike, crosstrainer....or something like mountain climbers etc. Makes a difference to your cardio fitness as well as a good fat burner.

Do NOT plan doing anything quickly afterwards...

L3 versus L4 Ripped. Tricky one for me as I have only ever done one after another and hence I am more tired when I get to 4. I would say 3 is harder on the legs overall, but 4 harder on cardio (the second cardio interval is particularly fiendish....)

CHST · 19/02/2012 19:38

wow that looks interesting notyummy. I think I will wait a while to try that though!

threestepsforward · 19/02/2012 20:43

Oh gawd, L4 harder on the cardio Shock Bring it on, weak lol

I like the fact Jillian keeps saying how hard the workouts are etc., makes me feel a bit better!

On a positive note, I have been wearing skinny jeans for the first time. Pre-Jillian, with fairly short legs, they looked (in my view) like upended wine bottles. I have even received the skinny jeans seal of approval from my mum, who is not backward in coming forward with her views (she told my her sister, my aunt, that she looked like a gnome in trousers she didn't like - I gave her a bollocking, she can be pretty awful) - she said my legs looked long Smile

I may feel like I'm dying during those 20 mins, but it is so worth it!

CHST · 19/02/2012 21:27

three steps that is fantastic re skinny jeans!!! It's those things that make you want to carry on more and make you feel good about yourself!

threestepsforward · 19/02/2012 21:42

Aw, thanks CHST Smile

I have to say since starting Shred at the beginning of last year, my shape has totally changed... I don't think I've lost weight, but everything looks so much different, better distributed? lol I don't weigh myself, but weirdly I'd bet I may weigh more now than I did pre-Jillian!

Keep going with Ripped! Have to say, I slightly dread L3 as I find it really tough...but the feelgood factor when you've finished is immense!

knottyhair · 20/02/2012 07:57

Morning! Threesteps, congrats on the skinny jeans, bet you feel amazing! I'd say I prefer L4 to L3 in Ripped - not sure which one is "harder" so to speak, but I think I just prefer the moves in L4 so mentally I find it more enjoyable and therefore easier to get through, if that makes sense. A bit like L2 vs L3 in Shred for me. Having said that, I'm doing L3 Ripped this morning once I've taken DS to school - already dreading the duck walks!
I also had a pub lunch yesterday - roast beef and all the trimmings followed by crumble & custard Blush. We were on a 4 mile walk at the time but still.... It was nice though!

CHST · 20/02/2012 11:11

knotty hair we have to treat ourselves sometimes! Crumble sounds divine right now!

Got up at 6.15 to do day 5. I am going to do day 6 tomorrow and take a rest day on wednesday because I feel my muscles need it, particularly in the legs though I sort of want to do some sort of exercise...that's the trouble with these dvds: you feel wierd on the rest days and fidgety. I still have her yoga meltdown that I have to try out...might give that a go on wednesday

knottyhair · 20/02/2012 11:36

CHST, can you get the Yoga Meltdown one to play in the UK, or have you done that thing with your DVD player (that I can't do with mine Angry).

OP posts:
CHST · 20/02/2012 11:52

yeah it's a region 1 dvd so you need a player that plays both unfortunately...not sure if it will be converted to a region 2 later

Jacksterbear · 20/02/2012 12:26

OMG OMG my Killer/Ripped box set has just been delivered! Shall I give Ripped L1 a go today?

knottyhair · 20/02/2012 12:51

Go on Jackster, you know it makes sense Grin!

OP posts:
Happypiglet · 20/02/2012 13:34

Still waiting for my box set Jackster so made do with BFBM this morning still find it tough.. Especially circuit 6...sweating buckets....
Good news re skinny jeans.
I have also ordered some bathroom scales. Never owned any before but feel the need to see if all this work is paying off! They also measure body fat percentage so that could be interesting!

notyummy · 20/02/2012 13:46

My bathroom scales fluctuate wildly so it can either be depressing or exhilarating standing on them.... They also measure body fat - apparently mine is around the 22/23% mark, which I am happy with.

threestepsforward · 20/02/2012 14:15

Thank you! I tend to live mainly in baggy jeans and am a bit of a scruff to be honest, but it's so nice to know I look okay in skinnies, something I would never have thought possible. Thank you Jillian Grin

Knotty pub lunch and crumble sound delicious. I had profiteroles on Saturday too Blush

Go on Jacksterbear, do it do it do it!

There's a lot more yoga-inspired stuff in Ripped than Shred I've noticed. Is her yoga DVD good CHST?

Well done on surviving BFBM Happypiglet!

Last day of L3 today. I may end up resting today though and do it tomorrow, will see how I feel later.

This thread is nearly full!

Jacksterbear · 20/02/2012 14:44

L1 Ripped done! Easier than I thought (although I don't think my form was perfect, esp on all the various bend-forward-with-legs-straight moves, don't seem to have the flexibility for those!) - on a par with L1/3 shred I thought (i.e. much easier than L2 shred/6W6P/NMTZ/BFBM).

I didn't really get why she said you need 2 sets of weights, one heavy one light though - is that for later levels? Did that with 2kgs (the heaviest I own) no problem.

Happypiglet join in the Ripped fun as soon your DVD arrives!

Would love to know my body fat %! How on earth do bathroom scales measure that?!

threestepsforward · 20/02/2012 15:21

Well done Jackster! I wondered that too - it hasn't become clear yet at L3, so perhaps just so you can switch between as and when you need to?

CHST · 20/02/2012 15:38

three steps I am probably going to try it out on wednesday. I have watched it and it does look good but just not tried it out yet

gingercat12 · 20/02/2012 20:04

notyummy You must be one fit couple.

threestepsforward Skinny jeans? Wow! I do not even remember owning one...

JacksterbearI did Ripped L1 for the first time today, too. Smile I'm obviously rubbish at all levels of exercises, but at least L1 I can attempt at a fairly / nearly competent level. Even DS (who is 4) thought I needed an urgent shower after my exercises. Yesterday I found him exercising with my weights. It probably means I need to change up to 2kg weights. He also has something like a baby sixpack, but how I do not know.

threestepsforward I must agree, my body shape changes, too. Nobody else mentioned it, but I can feel it. I definitely acquired some stomach muscles / abs and my arms lookmuch better.

gingercat12 · 20/02/2012 20:05

Not having a school-aged child me means I did not have rest day for the past few weeks. I even bought weights and a yoga mat for my parents' house.
