Hey MissWooWoo I am no expert on succeeding at diets. However I would say that this time, what is making me keep to the plan is realising that even if I only lose a pound a week I will be a couple of stone lighter by my summer holiday. I just keep picturing myself feeling slim and not worrying about being seen in a bikini.... as opposed to how I would feel now on a beach - chubby and self conscious. I suppose what I'm saying is that you are losing weight, be it a pound a week or two pounds, and if you keep at it you will achieve your goal. I know it feels rubbish when you dont get the results you expect but you will get there.

HattiFattner · 24/01/2012 10:44

0.5lb a week is 26lb in a year - nearly 2 stone
1lb a week is 52lb a year - about 3.5 stone
1.5 lb a week is 78lbs a year - about 5.5 stone
2lbs a week is 104 lbs a year - about 7 stone

every little helps. You will have good days and bad days, but you have to play the long game. If you want super fast results without the work, then a different diet might work better for you. But ultimately, WW is most likely, IMHO, to result in sustained weight loss as it teaches you portion control and self restraint, whereas other diets seem based on "eat as much of X as you want" or "only eat this product, nothing else" - neither of which will reprogramme you to eat in the real world.

My advice is always this....one or two days of shovelling anything in the fridge into your mouth does not herald the end of your diet. It gives you an opportunity to assess WHY you needed to snarf a packet of biscuits and look at the emotional triggers for your eating. Then, you pick yourself up, dust yourself off, get back on track and face the music on WI day. And start again.

Id also say set realistic goals....I d love to say I would be able to get 5.5 stone by my one year point, but realistically, that is not going to happen. Im currently 14st 6lbs

My goals are

short term: to get to the 2 stone mark in the next 2 weeks by losing 2lbs and not sabotaging myself.
Mid term: to get to 13st by Easter. (down 1st 6lbs)
Long term: to get to 12st by june 13th. This will mean a 4st weight loss in total over 1 year.
Very long term: 10st 7lb by Christmas.

Gawd, it looks like a blaster ticker..... Grin

If I don't manage it, well, as long as Im still heading in the right direction, thats OK. I fully expect to plateaux at some point - like I did from September through November.

JoJoBaldwin · 24/01/2012 17:52

Agree with everything there Hatti. Time to dust yourself down MissWooWoo, slow and steady wins the race Wink

My week is going well so far, gym yesterday and BodyJam today and doing ok points-wise. OH will be having a payday drinkiepoo from which I shall be good and abstain. Potential pitfalls: playcentre lunch tomorrow - those places are full of biscuits and paninis! Friend visiting at weekend - this scenario always seems to bugger everything up. Got to learn how to socialise without consuming too much alcohol somehow.

Quorn fajitas for dinner tonight, nomnomnom

Has anyone tried Truvia by the way? I am still trying to find the holy grail of a nice tasting sweetener.

Littlefish · 24/01/2012 18:17

Excellend post Hatti. I agree with every word you say!

MissWooWoo · 25/01/2012 12:02

You're all absolutely right, some weeks there just doesn't seem to be rhyme or reason to this weight loss game - you feel like you're on the verge of starvation and lose a measly pound, other weeks you feel full, have a bottle of wine and a "hangover" day of eating and somehow manage to lose 2.5lbs!!!

I must confess I didn't go to my weigh in this morning too ashamed as have sore throat and feeling a bit under the weather Blush but like you all say I just have to pick myself up and dust myself off - thanks!

Littlefish · 25/01/2012 12:51

Well ladies, I've had a bit of a rubbish week. No real reason for it, I just ate too much for the first 3 days after my weigh in. My period arrived very unexpectedly yesterday (only 21 days since my last one). I'm hoping that my usual 2lb gain will be gone by the time I weigh in tomorrow, but I'm not terribly hopeful.

I think that the best I can hope for is to stay the same, and do better next week. I've just realised that it's only about 9 or 10 weeks until Easter and I've set myself a mini goal of losing a stone before then. Yikes!

HattiFattner · 25/01/2012 13:19

9-10 weeks Shock blimey. Best get me figurative skates on and do some exercise if I have any chance of making 13st by easter!!!!

Willabywallaby · 25/01/2012 17:17

Afternoon, I've kind of lost my WW wagon, but trying to maintain really. I did go back to class 2weeks ago an I was back within my 5lbs of goal. Think I'm going to try and go monthly.

Seeing that 0.5lb a week is 2stone loss is amazing!

herdingcats · 25/01/2012 21:04

Hi all, it's seems to me everyone is feeling a bit bleugh ATM !
We all need to remember everyday is a new start and not to let the previous one pull us down. I'm having a bit of a shit time, but find if I concentrate on this I can forget about the other stuff, just a little bit.
I nearly didn't go tonight because of how I'm feeling, but am glad I did now.
It's a new year and our positive tracking will continue.
Sorry if that sounds like a lecture!

Littlefish · 25/01/2012 21:44

Well said Herdingcats. It's always good to hear how other people remotivate themselves.

bishboschone · 25/01/2012 22:03

Does anyone eat less points than they should . The last 2 days I have only eaten 24 points. . I'm running and walking a lot too. Do you think this will affect my weight loss ? It isn't exactly falling off me .

Littlefish · 26/01/2012 06:34

The only time I've eaten less than my daily points was at the beginning when I was in a huge number of points and some days, just physically couldn't eat enough food. However, unless you are near your goal weight, I would suggest sticking to your daily points as closely as you can for a few more weeks to see how it goes. Do you go to classes? If so, speak to your leader about it.

Just remind me how much you've got to lose....

bishboschone · 26/01/2012 07:21

I don't go to classes . I am a lifetime member as I lost my baby weight last time with Ww . I have been 9 and a half stone for the last 8 years . After ds ( born June ) I was 12 stone !! I am currently 11.6 stone . So the simple answer is 2 stone . I went back to get the pro points info but I don't need the incentive of being weighed to stick to it as I hate being fat and don't like food that much . To be honest I'm so embarrassed at being this fat I don't want to go to a class either . It just irritates me it isn't falling off . I run and walk a lot too Sad

JoJoBaldwin · 26/01/2012 20:00

Bit mysterious why it isn't coming off faster bish. Unless it is that you are eating too little and your body is conserving the calories. I always thought this was rubbish, but it happened to me a few years ago when I wasn't right in the head and embarked on a starvation-type diet. I was running too, and did lose some weight initially, but then stayed the same for ages (some days I would only eat a few peanuts!). When I started eating normally again my weight shot up of course.

I've got another cold starting which is soooo annoying as i really want to be down the gym and away from the fridge. Hopefully it will be better by saturday as have an 8am 5k run scheduled with some friends. Help!

Dipped into my weeklies a fair bit the last couple of days due to having lunch out. Good old bns soup tonight to try and get back on track.

Hope everyone had a good day.

Littlefish · 26/01/2012 20:20

Well, as expected, I have put on, but luckily only half a pound. I am determined to have a better week next week.

bishboschone · 26/01/2012 20:31

I eat three meals a day , weetabix/ porridge for breakfast , sandwich or soup for lunch and a healthy meal for dinner , no snacking unless bananas and apples . I drink water , tea or no sugar squash .. Any ideas anyone ? My friend did mention getting my thyroid checked , as pregnancy can mess you ip sometimes .

MizK · 27/01/2012 10:16

Hi all. Lost 2 pounds last night which makes 9.5 in three weeks, and I got my 5% sticker which made me childishly pleased!
bish Not sure why you aren't losing at the rate you want? Maybe getting your thyroid checked could be a good idea. I have found the classes a lifesaver as it really motivates me to know somebody will be weighing me, maybe if you went along to one the leader could give you a few tips.
littlefish Onwards and upwards, half a pound is not too bad!
Jojo hope your cold goes away, running with the sniffles is not fun....

HattiFattner · 27/01/2012 12:44

bish, take a good hard look at what you are eating - are you guestimating portion sizes? (hold hands up to this being my problem)

Miz K - well done! Thats a great loss!

bishboschone · 27/01/2012 13:54

Thanks both of you.. Honestly I do it to the letter . I have one of this calculators and work everything out . I sometimes wonder of this is the problem as I think there is an allowance for peeps that guesstimate ..hhmmm .. Will run again tonight Abd weigh in Tom see how I go .

HattiFattner · 27/01/2012 14:36

Also try eating a bit more....all dailies and weeklies and dip into those exercise points too. Might be what you need to kickstart your weight loss.

JoJoBaldwin · 27/01/2012 17:24

Just popping in to say I bought some truvia sachets today to test. Have tried them in coffee and am really pleased to report that it seemed to taste really nice with no yucky aftertaste that you get with other sweeteners.

Don't know what it is like on cereal etc, but as I seem to be drinking loads of tea and coffee with 2 sugars in, this discovery could really help.

Bought some mini milks today too, such good value for 1pp.

bishboschone · 27/01/2012 17:49

Hatti, I'm just too scares to eat that much . It seems like such a lot of food! I just can't see how if I eat all that food I will lose weight .. Confused .

HattiFattner · 27/01/2012 18:42

bish, there seems to be a mixed opinion on metabolic slowdown....some say it exists, others not. I would try it - whats the worst thing that could happen?

bishboschone · 27/01/2012 18:53

I'll put on weight again ( scared )
