lola, its so true! I want to cram my face with stodge and drink wine by the fire - and not go out walking, cos its too cold.

I manage to behave all week, and then fall spectacularly off the wagon on a friday....thinking of changing my wi day, so at least I can use Friday/Satuday as steam blowing days and then go back to being virtuous all week.

Littlefish · 09/02/2012 20:02

Hospital wasn't great. I've got to have an operation which will mean 2 months off work. I also won't be able to drive which means I will be stuck at home as we are in an isolated place. Oh well.

Anyway, I weighed in tonight and have lost a pound which I'm pleased with.

LolaLadybird · 09/02/2012 21:34

Littlefish - sorry the hospital wasn't good news. Small consolation but I badly injured my ankle after falling off a horse in August and couldn't walk properly or drive my own car for about 2 months (I could drive DH's automatic car but only when he wasn't using it as it's his company car). It was a frustrating time - we are also very rural - but friends really rallied around. Also, DM said at the time that the rest wouldn't do me any harm and she was right. We live our lives at a million miles an hour sometimes and enforced rest can be quite good therapy .... am I selling this to you yet??!

Well done on the 1lb off by the way and for going at all given your bad day.

Hatti - technically it shouldn't matter I suppose but when I went to a WW class, my WI was on a Tuesday which I found difficult. Now I WI on a Thursday, it's much easier.

Weighed this morning and have lost 4lb - I am pleased but perspective is required as I started on Monday after a weekend of overeating so I think some of it would have come off anyway.

Littlefish · 10/02/2012 06:57

Lola - thanks for the comforting words. I know that friends will be good, and dh is wonderful. I'm just worried that I'll go stir crazy!

Well done on your weightless. What a great start.

Matches · 10/02/2012 10:41

Hi all

I am starting WW online

I have a lot of weight to lose and feel quite despondent, as this has got to the point where I need to lose weight for my health, as well as to look good

I'm waiting to have a knee op as I've ruptured a ligament, so can't exercise. Bah. That means I have to be really good about eating less. Which I'm crap at.
I've tried WW online several times and always given up quite quickly.

But this time has to be different.

Please help me stay on track

Matches · 10/02/2012 10:42

Oh, and I have started today Smile

LolaLadybird · 10/02/2012 17:09

Welcome Matches and well done for starting again. I wouldn't think too much about the previous attempts that have failed - focus on the now (sounds a bit American psycho-babble I know!).

It is harder to lose without exercising but still do-able. Is there no exercise you can do (was thinking about swimming)?

Littlefish · 10/02/2012 17:57

Matches - please don't feel despondent. The important thing is that you are doing something about your weight problem. I started WW in October 2010 and have lost 5 stone and 1lb so far.

I've still got another 2 and a half stone to go, so I will be here for a long time. This thread is fantastic for both supportive words and kicks up the arse when they are required!

just keep posting. We talk about all sorts, both food and emotion related as for many of us, the two are absolutely interlinked. We also talk complete drivel from time to time. Grin

Matches · 10/02/2012 21:08

Thank you so much for the lovely and positive welcome. I shall stay Wink

Lola - erm yes, there is different exercise I can do Blush I feel embarrassed as I said on another thread - joined two weightloss ones, this one and a short-term lose-a-stone-one- that I couldn't do any exercise. Then was prompted into remembering by someone's post that I can in fact do static cycling, and do indeed have a stationary exercise bike in it's box in my home Blush

DH is now assembling the bike for me, and I shall do some tonight. I went 4 points over today eating-wise, but I have all my weeklies and I haven't yet done my healthy shop, so had to make do with unhealthier options Wink

LittleFish - WOW, that's amazing, well done! Were you pretty consistent during that time, or did you fall off the wagon then get back on?

I have six stone to lose. I am going to take it 1 stone at a time.

Littlefish · 10/02/2012 21:39

Matches, I've been pretty consistent throughout, although I did have about 3 months last summer when I seemed to go backwards and forwards over the same few pounds. it was frustrating, but as soon as I went back to school (I'm a teacher), then the weight started shifting again.

Taking it one stone at a time is a good plan. Set yourself lots of mini goals along the way so that you can keep achieving. Like I said, I've lost 5 stone. I plan to lose half a stone by Easter and was hoping to then lose another stone by September. That last bit may be a bit challenging as I've got to have an operation in April which will put me out of action for a couple of months.

Matches · 10/02/2012 21:44

I'm also having an operation in April (probably) - my knee op.

I'm hoping to lose as much before then, and get into the swing of it, so that hopefully I don't go backwards too much when I'm on crutches for a month and comfort eating

LolaLadybird · 10/02/2012 22:20

Littlefish - that is an amazing loss and truly inspiring.

I probably have about 2 stone to lose. I'm not sure exactly what my goal weight should be as I have always weighed heavy, even as a slim teenager, so think the height/weight charts might be a bit misleading for me. I guess I'll have a better idea when I get nearer.

Matches - take heart. At least by the time we get to April, the weather will (hopefully) be warmer and I think it's much easier to lose when you can fill up on salads and the like. Unfortunately, there is something about the cold weather that makes me want to hibernate and comfort eat.

GravityDefier · 11/02/2012 01:03

Somehow this thread wasn't shown in my active threads anymore!

Sorry to hear about people struggling with their health, I hope the operations will go well.

HattiFattner · 13/02/2012 12:10

2lb down this week! Yippee! But my dailies have gone down to 28....booo!

maxpower · 13/02/2012 14:14

well done for everyone's weight loss.

I wanted to ask about exercise. I've been on ML for the past year so have stayed fairly active doing the school run (round trip of about 50mins walking) which I've tried to do at least once every day, but that has slipped a bit in this cold weather! But I go back to work next week, doing a sedentary job. I drive to/from work and as I have to do childcare drop offs/pick ups I can't really vary that.

DH is a paramedic so he works crazy shifts which sometimes mean he's home a lot and other times I barely see him all week. This means childcare in the evenings/weekends is erratic at best, becasue it entirely depends on what DH is working.

I used to go to a great class once a week at the local leisure centre, but the instructor changed and I fell pg so I stopped going. At that time DH was doing a 9-5 job so I could go regularly, but now I couldn't. I'm not very good at exercising independently (I will always find something else more important to do Wink ), but I know from experience that if I go to a class regularly, I get into the habit and am very good at making sure I go every week. I just can't do that now because of DH's working pattern. My DM&D already help with childcare during the week so I just think I'd be taking the p to ask them to look after the DCs while I go out if DH isn't around. All my friends and family either have DCs themselves, live too far away or are unwell (with long term illnesses) to reasobaly help out.

Any thoughts/suggestions?

HattiFattner · 13/02/2012 14:22

aim for 3 days a week. weekends plus one other day. ANything over that is a bonus.

Think about super early morning (brrrrr) rather than evenings when you are tired. Especially is DH is at home - presumably he could watch baby for an hour if you get out for a 30/40 minute walk.

HattiFattner · 13/02/2012 14:29

or go out in your lunch hour - take a 30 minute fast stroll even if its round the block, immediately after you eat.

LolaLadybird · 13/02/2012 19:39

Well done on your loss HF.

I'm trying to be strict today - has all been going well but had a lovely lunch out yesterday and completely blew my weeklies and some. WI on Thursday so can be put right if I am disciplined but it is harder this week with it being half-term.

Max - I know you say you're not good with independent exercise but have you thought about/tried running? The beauty of it being that you can do it straight out of your front door in as little as 30 minutes. I started running after the DC's for that precise reason - we live v rurally and it would be a 40 minute round trip just to get to a gym/sports centre to do anything else. I also have short/inconsistent windows of time as I work 3 days a week (and same as you with childcare drop-offs etc) and DH's hours vary. When I can't get out and run, I do Jillian Michael's 30 day shred DVD - intensive short bursts of 20 minutes a day which is quite do-able.

maxpower · 13/02/2012 20:22

this is going to sound like poor excuses, but it's all true!

Running - I genuinely cannot run for the life of me! I do love walking and am happy to go for a stroll on my own and have done quite a lot of walking to/from school over the last year. But once I'm back at work, I won't be doing that regularly.

If DH is on day shifts he leaves c6.30am. I really can't see me getting up at c5.45am to ensure I get a decent walk in before he leave for work, especially as I'd then be struggling to explain to DD why I was out of bed but she really should still be sleeping - her sleeping has been quite an issue for us over the last 2 yrs which we think we've finally cracked. Plus I'd have to be asleep by about 9pm in order to function like a human being which just won't happen (as I have to do all the housework etc in the evenings)

If he's on night shift he's out until c7.30am by which time I have to be leaving to drop DS off at nursery so I can get to work on time. So again, no option for early morning walking then.

In order to keep my hours short enough to enable me to collect/drop off DCs on time, I only have a 15min lunch break - which I need to eat in! so walking at work isn't an option.

So that basically leaves evenings. Which I don't mind, but again, is very dependent on DH - day shifts often mean he's not home before 7/8pm, night shifts and late shifts he's already out working.

He works 8 out of 10 weekends as well.

The real problem for me is the lack of being able to have an exercise routine that I can stick to. I'm much better at following a regular pattern when it comes to things I might otherwise avoid. I guess I'm just going to have to be strict about doing something whenever DH is around. Mind you, I do also need to make sure that I spend a bit of time with him every now and again Grin Or I could just win the lottery and buy a bigger house with it's own gym. That'd be great.

LolaLadybird · 13/02/2012 21:10

I sympathise Max - it's not easy. I think you just need to do what you can when you can. If nothing else, think of the extra points you'll earn!

Still reckon you should give running a try tho' {nags}. It is hard to start with but the outdoors head space it gives you from children is a big draw!

Furball · 13/02/2012 21:20

maxpower - try these podcasts - I promise you in 9 weeks you will be able to run 5k. He makes it very simple and it really is a fun challenge to yourself.

You only need decent running shoes (I buy nike dart in sports direct - £27 although online they now have really fabby nike pegasus reduced from £75 down to £26) ) and a firm sports bra and off you go.....

Littlefish · 13/02/2012 21:39

I've started a new thread in the big/slim/whatever section. It's called the same as this one, but with "II" at the end of it.

Can anyone put a link onto this thread please? I'm on my iPad and can't work out how to do it.

Furball · 13/02/2012 21:40

New thread here

you wish is my command littlefish Wink

Littlefish · 13/02/2012 21:49
