shocked and in tears. I joined up on my own, I was utterly terrified. It's a massive group, I think there were at least 40 people there who stayed and another 20 that didn't stay.

I haven't been on the scales for 3 years and I have a stone a year to show for it.

I am now 11st over my ideal weight and I am shit scared for my health.

My goodness, i'd like to say it feels good but right now I am overwhelmed. The diet looks great but I have simply got so much to lose. I met a woman tonight who has lost 6.5 stone-she is still bigger than I am but she gave me hope. It's taken her since Jan last year.

I start to eat right tomorrow-for tonight it's a glass of wine and an early night.

Which thread do you recommend I join for support along the way? I will need it.

welcome hedgepig

Hedgepig · 29/03/2011 22:13

I saw your link on the WW vs SW chat thread and through I would pop in Grin. I like the idea of you pub, but can't trust myself to buy biscuits to crumble just one on a yoghurt. Just had a Muller light with strawberries which was pretty nice. Time for bed sleep well all

Hedgepig · 29/03/2011 22:15

pud! not pub although I like the idea of the pub too ho hum

Hedgepig · 30/03/2011 10:01

Morning mmmmm grapes are so much nicer than cake! Managed to pass the 1st hurdle of the day just got coffee and grapes and no cake. How are we all today?

weigheyhey · 30/03/2011 11:21

I have had better starts to the day, dc related issues, grr kids huh! but diet is still on track.

LittleMissNorty · 30/03/2011 14:20

Hi girls

Sorry have been totally absent since my first message. Went to my fist class. Was great. Really in "the zone" now - lost 4lb first week Grin.

Had forgotten how easy SW is - and now there is extra easy, it is so much easier.

Have discovered Mug Shots (most are no syns) and cooked chicken risotto out of the latest mag last night and it was yum.

But, big package just arrived from my SIL with 2 easter bunnies smashed to pieces, and I'd eaten a lump of one before I'd even realised - so will have to remain syn free for the rest of the day.

Right:

Norty: married
Age : 41
1 DD (nearly 4); 1 DS (2)
start weight: 17st 8lb Blush
after week 1: 17 st 4lb
Height short (5ft)
Weigh in day - Monday

weigheyhey · 30/03/2011 17:12

I did the one thing i promised myself I would not do and that is get on my own scales today. I really promised myself I wouldn't-it's pointless. But they did show a loss this week so I cant wait for tonight.

I'm actually really excited about group tonight and really looking forward to it-how sad :)

Hedgepig · 30/03/2011 20:37

evening how was the meeting weigheyhey?

I have mine tomorrow although I do find the group a bit of an odd experience I haven't really gelled with anyone yet. Although I did recognise a lady from the village who I have only nodded at before. Also our consultant is a bit overweight which I must admit I find a tad on the strange side Confused not really the best advert.

just off to look a syns online to see if I can have enought syns left to have some icecream

weigheyhey · 30/03/2011 20:53

OMFG (sorry to use text speak)

SLIMMER OF THE WEEK!!

6.5 lb off

I'm only 3.5 lb off my first stone. Only 2lb off being exactly 21 st.

I am so happy, i'm doing my happy dance. I have abig bag of goodies and two certificates in my hand. Oh my.

:) :) :)

I must remember this feelling the next time I am reaching for wine and chocs or feeling demotivated!

Hedgepig · 30/03/2011 21:13

Yeh!!! Grin Grin well done you Slimmer of the Week

Didn't have the ice cream we only have Cornish dairy in the freezer and I can't bring myself to eat so many syns in 1 go.

LittleMissNorty · 30/03/2011 21:37

Well done great news.

weigheyhey · 31/03/2011 07:49

Hedgepig theres a couple of recipes for low syn ice cream in my dessert book-i dunno if they are any good substitutes, know the chocolate cheesecake wasn't. But I am going to try this at the weekend as well. It may be useful to have some to beat that late night sweet munch.

Try this one it's free on all plans: Serves 4 (yeah right)

2 egg whites
4 lvl tbsp sweetener (gah that seems an awful lot)
1lb 5oz fat free fromage frais
2 tbsp skim milk
vanilla essence

whisk egg white with the sweetener until soft peaks occur, in another bowl mix fromage milk and vanilla then fold the egg white into it.

freeze until firm, remove from freezer for 15 mins before serving, topped with lots of fruit of course.

LittleMissNorty · 31/03/2011 09:36

Oh might have to try that - perhaps with some strawberries mixed in. Sounds lovely.

Is everyone doing the extra easy plan? I'm finding it difficult to have ony one "a" and one "b" as by the time I've had branflakes and a bit of milk (+ tea during the day), that's my healthy extras gone.

jonicomelately · 31/03/2011 09:40

Well done weigheyhey Smile

Hedgepig · 31/03/2011 11:42

littlemissnorty I'm doing extra easy as well. But I don't have milk in my tea and coffees so I can't drink the milk allowance, so I have low fat yogurt plain on my cereal and fruit in the morning but have it as a syn and then use the dairy allowance as cheese on crackerbread when I get in from work. I am really struggling with only 1 carbohydrate though thinking about doing green days but I need to get my head around it.

Pud sounds good weighty I haven't tried cooking with sweeteners yet

weigheyhey · 31/03/2011 17:10

i'm doing a combi of extra easy and green mainly. I know from previous expereince red days simply do not fill me up, but are great if youre having a bbq.

I have a green day when i'm craving bread.

Hedgepig · 31/03/2011 21:51

Back from weigh in and I have lost my 1st stone Grin, I'm now about the weight I thought I was before I stated SW Blush. And I cycled there and back which was about 6 miles so mega brownie points. It was light and lovely when I went and a bit dark and scary when I came back, it's a long time since I have cycled in the dark in the country.

JjandtheBeanlovesUnicorns · 31/03/2011 22:00

WELL DONE WEIGHHEY!!!! Grin

i had a really bad day the other day and ate a big fat snickers bar some chocolate Blush so today i was positively angelic.

today i had scrambled egg for brekkie on toast (for healthy extra) no lunch just fruit on and off as snacks, for tea i had steak and a pork loin and tons of salad then i had some fruit and fibre as a supper. Off swimming with dd tomorrow cant wait

Jynxed · 31/03/2011 22:46

Hello, can I join you? I think I need some help!

I went to my first meeting today, having geared up to it for ages. I nearly walked out about 3 times before someone came to speak to me. Really hated sitting there not knowing what the heck was going on.

I'm struggling to understand it at the moment, so I must be a bit dim because everyone tells me its easy. I'm assured that I won't feel hungry, but to me the meal plans don't look very much and I'm convinced I'm going to be starving!

My biggest worry is the healthy extra thing. Only one each of A and B??!!! That's everything I eat listed in there, what am I left with? My standard week day menu is toast for breakfast, and cheese sandwich and fruit for lunch. What can I have for breakfast and lunch if I can't have bread or cheese? I am at work everyday so have to be able to take a packed lunch with me. I'm not sure this is going to work for me . . . .

Please help! I need to lose about 2 stone, but I'd settle for 1 and a 1/2. I'm going on holiday to Portugal in August and it would be great to be able to wear summery clothes without covering up.

I hope I don't sound to negative, I'm feeling a bit over whelmed by it all!

weigheyhey · 31/03/2011 23:23

Ciongrats on your losses all this week folks well done. Sorry if i missed anyone in the hurrahs!

Welcome Jynxed, You are very welcome here. My aim for this thread is to a warm and supportive place, no judgeyness, keep each motivated, share tips and recipes and help out with confusing issues on the diet.

I started this because it is been far from easy for me to do this in the past and I need a nextwork of support to keep me on track. My Mum has recently become type 2 diabetic and it has frightened the bejeeze out of me so I have good reason and motivation.

It is overwhelming when you start-sounds like your consultant may be a bit crap on the meet and greet-way to lose people from the start. My consultant has a volunteer meet and greeter on standby to make sure any newbies feel welcome, make em a cuppa and sit down and chat til she can get to them. Your start sounds a bit rubbish. I am having a bit of girl crush on my consultant she is so good :) Really caring, organised, has all the bases covered.

If you are following extra easy then yes you are allowed only one portion of diary or bread/cereal a day-it seems hard but you must use your free foods to fill you up.

For me a typical day at work is weetabix topped with vanilla mullerlight and fruit. Loads of fruit. Followed by several cups of tea with SS milm from allowance.

I will have fruit again at 11 am break time.

Lunch The biggest jacket potato I can find topped with tuna sweetcorn/baked beans lots of salad and fruit/yogurt to follow.
another fave filling of mine is ctg cheese with grated apple and chunky celery, will have mullerlight or something.

I usually have fruit again at 2pm break
Then when the kids go ( i teach) at 3 I tend to have a syn snack like a packet of quavers and yes youve guessed it more fruit.
dinner will be whatever i fancy-tonight was salmon, with a pack of schwatz garlic, mushroom cream sauce (4.5 syns per pack, shared betwen my family) rice with steamed broccoli and peas. I also had a fairy cake my daughter made-worked out at 2.5 syns
I made a SW orange cheesecake and had that for 9pm munchies 1/2 a syn a portion (i ate 4 portions :)) I also like those mugshots for late night munchies too.
Before bed I have the last glass of milk to use up my allowance.

a day at home will be bacon, quorn sausages, eggs, baked beans grilled toms and mushrooms,
sandwich lunch with ctg cheese or syn free houmos, grated carrot.

Dinner a mountain of SW bolognese and pasta with a bit of reduced fat cheddar.
SW chicken curry sometimes too, I have had chicken kebabs, all sorts of good food. Sunday we had a massive lamb pot roast with saffron and lemon potatoes, recipe from the magazine. It was gorgeous!

I wont say i haven't been hungry at all, but I have HUGE capacity for food and I know that being hungry is also a symptom of sugar addiction, your body likes to trick you to make you crave food to meet the demands for sugar. I tend to think well I have eaten more than enough. i am hungry now but it was only an hour ago I ate four portions of that cheesecake. So i know I shouldn't be hungry.

Sorry for the mahoosive post!
I wish you luck, i promise once you get it in your stride it will feel better.

stinkypinky · 01/04/2011 12:29

WHH that post was really helpful - this is turning into a lovely thread, and it is great that we have such a wide range of folk, with big and small amounts to lose.

I have been really disheartened about my 0.5lb loss and was beginning to think I will never lose weight - DH has been telling me to remember the 5lb loss last week, and also reminded me that womens bodies do odd things with water according to time of month etc. I am breast feeding, although not exclusively now as DD2 is almost 1 (sob sob), and I have never before been able to lose an ounce when feeding, so I am doing really well (Ok, I sneaked on the scales this morning and there is another 2lb gone - weigh in not until Monday)

What do folk think of daily weighing? - I have always done it, but I have a history of an eating disorder, so not such a good thing really (I only do it when watching my weight, not when in fat bird mode)

My husband is definite that this needs to be a way of life for ever - not just a 'diet', and likens it to a journey - I have 84 miles (i.e. pounds) to travel to my destination (Slimville), I have already travelled 5 miles, and I would like to get there by Christmas. When I get there, I want to stay there!

Gosh, long posts are catching! I will give my tips about packed lunches later as my next client is due (I am a nurse, not a prostitute btw!)

stinkypinky · 01/04/2011 13:47

Back again, client failed to turn up Smile

For my work I have a lovely food flask thingy from Aladdin - pink, screw top, little handle, fits lots in and keeps it either hot or cold. I cram it full of lovely pasta salad or rice salad usually, with cottage cheese to give it some moisture. When I have a bit more time I can put home made soup in it or something else. It gets lots of admiring comments.

I was told today that my weight loss is showing, which is nice - not sure that is true yet - may be more to do with the new bra and my boobs being in the right place again.

I think I need to eat more if anything. I miss bread, and sometimes use my syns for extra bread and cheese.

I have been invited to a wedding in June, so have a reason to buy a new frock - should be well on my way by then Grin

JjandtheBeanlovesUnicorns · 01/04/2011 21:06

hi ladies,

quick question from dp, how bad is pickle, just standard branston? we have both looked through the books and cant find it, is it a syn, if so how many?

and from me, im wondering if im doing this all wrong?

on a green day ill have;

breakfast- scrambled egg on wholemeal toast (free and healthy extra) pure OJ 2.5syn.

no lunch just salad and fruit when i need it, maybe an alpen bar if i crave sweet.

then evening meal is any of the following;
stirfry all free and extra free (sweet and sour sauce is a syn but less than 5)
quorn chilli and rice
homemade tomatoe sauce and pasta with salad
more fruit.

red day;
breakfast-bacon, scrambled egg, mushroom and beans.

no lunch again just fruit.

dinner- chicken/lean steak or pork loin and lots of salad plus extra light mayo for 2.5syn

on red days i always get really hungry straight after the kids are in bed so i have fruit and fibre as a healthy option.

thats it roughly. im avoiding syns other than for some OJ or a touch of mayo and eating far more extra frees than free.

today i did a 20min walk and we went swimming, granted it wasnt laps but i was floating around with the dcs for almost 2hrs!!! and man do i feel shattered. i also parked further away from somewhere i had to drive to so i had a 5-10min walk.

im waiting to weigh until next week as i had a very naughty weekend last week. im just getting all worried as i have so so much to loose and want results before i see the doctor and hes horrible again.
