Here is the new thread for us to achieve success in Xmas Smile

Old thread is here

I'll change my name to my "Christmas" one after Saturday: I'm helping to organise the Scottish Mumsnet Christmas meet-up and it might confuse things if I change my name.

OP posts:
Blondeshavemorefun · 09/12/2010 16:35

hmmmmmmmm

went to dentist and he said my tooth was fucked in a bad state and i need a root canal costing £550

blondes faints

have put a post in health asking for advice

do i have it done or just yank the tooth out and be gappy :(

bebeinamanger · 09/12/2010 16:48

Oh No Blondes! :( You have to think about how you would feel with a gap? Can you cope with the pain, even short term? Can you afford to shell out £550 just before Christmas?

Mulled - KICK! Come on woman, pull ya socks up!! Wink Must be tricky, things will calm down when schools break up. Try not to go OTT over the hols!

Well....I went to doctors, built myself up to nasty injection, sat in waiting room for 25mins, went in, got assessed, was told I have possibly got (not 100% sure Hmm) Trochanteric Bursitis, Doc decided he needed to do steroid injection...but not today! Angry Because he was running late & had other patients to see & was rushing. The staff meeting had over run & despite me having booked a double appointment he didn't have time! Not impressed, have to go back 2moro! DH is mega pissed off as he took afternoon off to be with DD & now has to do the same again 2moro! He reckons I should have made him do it, but tbh if doc was rushing & flustered I'd rather he wasn't putting a needle in my hip! I'm also a bit confused about why they haven't scanned/xrayed if they aren't 100% that that's what the problem is! Confused But I'm not a doctor, what do I know?!

RatherBeOnTheMulledWine · 09/12/2010 16:57

Oh Blondes. Which tooth is it? Any dentistry is expensive. I spent £650 on stuff during the summer. It all seemed 'indulgent' way to spend hard earned
Money. I hated it, we could have hone away as a family for the weekend on that

That is such a lot on one tooth. Blimee. My friend was supposed to spend a fortune in one of her big molars and chose to have it taken out. You can't see it so she didn't care.

And Bebe too. How unsatisfactory for you too. Tell your DH to pull himself together and stop moaning!! Currently DD says she wants to do medicine and between us I would feel disappointed. It seems silly maybe but I think doctors are stretched so thinly it must be a frustrating job. I'm not sure for many GPs there can be much job satisfaction. Dunno.

Blondeshavemorefun · 09/12/2010 17:05

bebe, poor you after hyping yourself up for it

lucky you/dh can do tomorrow

mulled - kicks and slides away in freezing ice and fog

you can do it - now shift that blubber (tho we need it in the snow)

tell dd to be a dentist - they are rich

tbh i really cant afford the £550 now or even after xmas esp as dh hasnt been working coz of the snow and tbh he wont work rest of dec as not going to melt off grass by next week and week after is xmas

i had a tooth yanked about 12years ago as so rotten so have one gap, but not sure if want another one

but its the back molor so no one can see either gap

Blondeshavemorefun · 09/12/2010 17:06

have you reliesed the last 10 000 posts have been about us/weather etc and not talking about food Xmas Grin

RatherBeOnTheMulledWine · 09/12/2010 17:10

I'm making DC toad in the hole Mrs Blondes. HTH.

bebeinamanger · 09/12/2010 17:12

Ok, so back to the food....
DH & DD are having lasagne & chips for tea Envy I am being virtuous & having carrot & lentil soup!

Blondes - Did they give you the option of them removing it? I would advise against any home dentistry!

Mulled - 2nd Blondes, DD should be a dentist! Wink My mum is faced with the prospect of shelling out Thousands to try & save her teeth! Apparently the work she needs doing isn't available NHS, even though she has an NHS dentist! Hmm Dentists must be rolling in dosh! Wink

RatherBeOnTheMulledWine · 09/12/2010 17:20

DDs best mate said she wants to be a dentist. She'll never be poor will she?! DD will probably slave forever and then hate being frustrated.

Just eaten a rice cake and it was dull.
(Piste tries to remember we must talk about food)

prettybirdinapeartree · 09/12/2010 18:28

Dh had to have a series of root canal treatments a few years ago (he had not been to the dentist for a loooong time) which was so much work, the dentist had to get approval from the Health Board to carry it out. IIRC, it was about £800 worth, but 'cos it was on the NHS, dh only had to pay the maximum fee of £300.

The dentist was (is - we still go there) so good that even though dh doesn't like dentists, he allowed him to do the last procedures without anaethetic Shock as by that time he had so much trust in him and when the dentst told that the nerves were totally dead there, he accpeted that. He said he could feel the yanking and probing - but just as the dentist promised, there was no pain :)

Back to the subject of FOOD: I have now made 134 mince pies. 24 of them are now in the freezer, 30+ got donated to ds' Winter Fair, 30+ got taken to the rugby club on Sunday, 4 got taken for sharing on the jounrey across to the Scottish Mumsnet Christmas meet-up, which leaves an awful ot unaccounted for....... Xmas Wink

....To be fair, both dh and ds love mince pies so they have had one or two most of them, while I have had quite a few only one or two Xmas Grin

Blondeshavemorefun · 09/12/2010 18:52

No anaesthetic

Thud

'blondes faints again'

How many pies???

Did I ever mention I hate mince and mice pies

prettybirdinapeartree · 09/12/2010 19:06

If you hate mince pies, you might like either (or both) the spanakpitia (mini spinach and feta filo rolls) or the turkey and bacon bites I have also made to supply the freezer, in preparation for our Boxing Day Open House.

The bacon and turkey bites consist of turkey fillets bached out, topped with a thyme, lemon, parsley and shallot breadcrum stuffing, fresh cranberries, rolled up and wrapped in streacky bacon before being cooked. When sliced into little medallions, you get "all the flavour of Christmas rolled into a single bite" :) (as described by the Good Food magazine, where I got the recipe 15 years ago)

Blondeshavemorefun · 09/12/2010 20:50

bebeinamanger · 10/12/2010 08:08

prettybirdinapeartree · 10/12/2010 10:29

Lost another pound yaaayyyy Xmas Smile

Was pleasantly surprised (and to be honest, only managed to achieve the pound having done the Shred this morning) after all the mince pies the Mumsnet meet-up and all the mince pies and not not being able to exercise this week 'cos ds was at home and all the mince pies Xmas Wink I did starve myslef yesterday though. Xmas Smile

Mulledwine: I've updated your weight. I'm sure you'll get it off again next week. You've still done really well since you started :)

Murtette: come on then, get in the Zone - you and I can both do it!

Blondes: I could post the recipe for the spanakopita if you want, as I typed that out for a recipe book produced by ds' school.

Bebe: sts is good - you're already at (in fact below) your target weight according to the list, so you knwo that as long as you keep on top of the festive munchies, you'll be fine.

GettinTrimmer · 10/12/2010 12:00

I have to sheepishly admit that I forgot to weigh in today.

Will do so tomorrow.

piste 1lb gain, that was me last week, hoping to sts tomorrow.

How is your dd's mate? I admire your dd saying she's thinking of becoming a doctor but understand your reservations - she must feel she's cut out for a caring role, she is helping her friend so much.

bebe well done on sts. You've maintained!

blondes what a complete pain for you Sad hope you can work something out.

Well, my car will cost £300 - £400 to repair - bugger. Next door's wall is hardly noticeable, but there are a couple of chips.

GettinTrimmer · 10/12/2010 12:00

pretty well done on your 1lb. I bet you are looking slim now.

bebeinamanger · 10/12/2010 13:00

Put a small pic of me & DD on my profile from the weekend, I think I'm looking quite slinky! (What you can see!) :o

Well done Pretty! Gold star!! :o

Trimmer - That's not a nice unexpected bill before Xmas! :(

prettybirdinapeartree · 10/12/2010 14:41

Just tried my "good" pair of Size 12 jeans on. OK, they are "pre-stretched" (in that I was wearing them as I put the weight on, until I couldn't get in to them any more Blush) and there is a nasty case of muffin-top Hmm, but I could get on them on :) :)

I'll leave it an other few pounds or so until I actually wear them again though Grin

Blondeshavemorefun · 10/12/2010 15:04

bebeinamanger · 10/12/2010 15:45

I have been 'stabbed'...it didn't hurt! Phew!!! Bit tender now, but not sore as it had some local in the jab! :)

Well done Blondes! :) 2 gold stars for you! :o

Pretty - I have to suffer the muffin top with my size 12s, it's either that or wear 14s that fall down all the time Hmm Tunic tops are my friends! :o

prettybirdinapeartree · 10/12/2010 15:50

There's "muffin top" and there's "muffin top" GrinBlush

bebeinamanger · 10/12/2010 16:14

:o Mine was improving with sit ups, but I can't do that at the moment coz of my porrly hip! :( Bet it's not as bad as you think Pretty! :)

prettybirdinapeartree · 10/12/2010 16:27

It is, trust me Grin

I can barely get to the button, there is so much podgy fat tummy hanging over Blush Even wearing a jumper, you can clearly see that there is a bulge escaping.

TBH, even the 14s that I am currently wearing having a bit of a muffin top. If I want to tuck a shirt in, I have to make sure that it is really loose, otherwsie you can see that it is not just gathered at the waist, it is filled with flesh Blush
