Right, I'm back. So good to see lots of new converts to the cult of the Shred.

I managed to complete 3 rounds of the shred between April and September. I didn't lose much weight but I lost LOTS of inches. Smile However, I have slipped out of the habit over the last couple of months and sadly some of the inches have returned.

Posting on this thread kept me motivated in the past so here I am again. level 1 day 3 .....DONE!

HowsTheSerenity · 23/11/2010 08:23

I cannot move my legs!!

Joby1970 · 23/11/2010 08:31

Hows the serenity: it just feels that way - I couldn't keep up with my 65 year old mother the day after level one day 1!! However, I did the next workout & it helped - honest :)

Day 4 of Level one completed... I've been doing it first thing in the morning, while DD is having her brekkie in her highchair, and she can PHSL at Mama doing wibbly wobbly jumping jacks! Grin

FOr me, day 2 was the worst - I was sooooo sore and achey but now its all good... My weights arrive last night (I was using tins of tomatoes before) and I can DEFFO feel a difference today...arms are aching! Yay!

redderthanred · 23/11/2010 09:09

Just done day two.

I wasnt aching anywhere near as bad as i thought i was going to this morning. Just a bit 'tight' really.

Its the cardio that kills me. Its tough isnt it. How can 2 mins be so hard???

Sweating buckets and making some attractive noises, DD kept asking ' are you hurt mummy?'

I dont see how im ever going to get past level one at this point.

chocoholic · 23/11/2010 11:07

Yay, day 7 done.

You will get better really quickly red. My first couple of days were horrible but I think (note, just a thought so far Grin) I might try level 2 tomorrow!

How are you feeling today HowsTheSerenity?

NicknameInUse · 23/11/2010 11:23

Hi all! Can I join? Grin

Mine came yesterday but ds was climbing all over me when I was 'doing' the press ups and sit ups and then trying to run under my legs when I was doing the jumping jacks! So today is counting as my first day (decpite the fact that I'm aching to hell today! Blush). Will do it when he's having his nap.

Took my measurements (Biscuit) and 'before' picture yesterday so I'm ready to go...

I think I'm going to need your encouragement, I'm lazy lacking motivation and desperate to not be a size 16 anymore!

Pinkytinky · 23/11/2010 11:24

choco level 2 - go for it!

I'm still on level 1. Day 4 today, feel like I've got more energy but my thighs do ache.

MickyLee · 23/11/2010 11:45

Day 5 completed. Finding the cardio so much easier now but strengh still as hard.
I really didn't want to do it today though but now it is over I am so happy I did.

Did you do level 2 choco and how much harder did it feel?

redderthanred · 23/11/2010 12:19

mickylee - so the cardio is easier after 5 days?

Ive been out and brought 2x1kg weights. Double the bean tin weight.
I dont know if it would be best to stick with the bean tins for a few days till my cardio picks up.
or just go straight in there?

Emjxxx · 23/11/2010 12:21

OM Fing GOD!!!

I've just done 1st day level 1, I'm going to die. I do want abs like hers I know they don't come for free!

I must say though I am starting this as a very over weight 31 year old, I have put on 4 stone in the last 18 months and have just been told by docs that I have osteoarthritis and CFS. Doc has told me to loose the weight will help with both. I think I'm going to be in quite a bit of pain, but I know it will be worth it.

For what it's worth I don't care who knows. I'm starting this as 31, 5 foot 6" size 16 and weighing 190lbs (13.5st)

Lets see how i go! Grin

Emjxxx · 23/11/2010 12:23

Hi NickNameInUse SNAP sooo many size 12s in wardrobe that need to be worn again, We can do this! Grin

NicknameInUse · 23/11/2010 12:55

Emj we have the exact same stats, except I'm 23! I'm not going to be measuring my progress by my weight though, I'm going by my measurments.

Just did Level 1 properly, I find the cardio the hardest. ...although, me doing abs work is laughable too!
I must say, it's easier without a 19mo climbing all over you! Grin

I'm proud, I got all the way through with only one pause to have a gallon sip of water! Thought I wouldn't be able to do it today with all of my aches but it has, somehow, helped.

Jumbs · 23/11/2010 12:56

Hello shredders!

I've done work out 1 6 times now and was wondering when to move up to level 2? Was reasonably fit before, just a bit too flabby! Not finding anything too hard apart from the anterior lunge/eye level raise which kills me on the second time round. Move up to work out 2 do you think, or heavier weights? OH says heavier weights, but he does it with 5kg so is finding it tough.

Is anyone else weirdly finding it a bit addictive?

Really annoyed that forgot to weigh/measure myself before I started. Trying to loosely combine with abs diet (less white carbs & saturated fats, more protein).

NicknameInUse · 23/11/2010 12:57

*the workout helped my aches, not my aches helped my workout - obviously!

MickyLee · 23/11/2010 13:02

red yes the cardio gets easier.. Will be eating my words when i reach level 2 though!

jumbs I think you need to move to level 2. You will only finds the arms harder if you just move to heavier weights surely.

Does anyone know what to do after the 30days?? judt stay at level 3 forever???!!

Emjxxx · 23/11/2010 13:04

I have measured myself too, it doesn't make for pleasant reading, but hopefully it will get a lot more pleasant.

Yes defo easier without the 19mo which is a SNAP too, mines a boy. He was in his playpen, kept asking "you ok mummy" bless him

WOW Jumbs, 6 days at level 1 and moving onto level 2, you sound quite fit though, so i say go for it if you think you would get more benefit from it. I think it will be a good few weeks before I'm onto level 2

Jumbs · 23/11/2010 13:17

OK, think will do another day at level 1 then do level 2. But I've watched level 2 Shock

Micky Lee I'm wondering too what happens after I've done 30 days of shred. I might do it a couple of times a week still and then combine with eliptical machine or other workout dvds to keep fitness up/weight off. Might wait till I get to 30 days tho and see!

YunoYurbubson · 23/11/2010 17:24

Jumbs - I was finding level one fine and moved to heavier weights and found it made quite a difference. But then I want to tone, not build muscle, so not sure if that was the right thing to do after all.

I did Level 1 day 5 today, but went for a long bike ride before it. Feel pleasantly achey and tired now.

YunoYurbubson · 23/11/2010 17:25

And OMG yes - the eye level raises with side lunges. OW Shock They actually make me grunt.

Does everyone on level 1 find this bit the hardest?

chocoholic · 23/11/2010 17:50

It is a beast of an exercise. I would still have to say press ups are harder although I did manage to do 3 proper ones today [proud emoticon].

SpareRoomSleeper · 23/11/2010 17:52

Hello all....

Just finished day two of level 1 and downed a pint of water in one breath...Oh my poor aching body. Whenever Ive gone up and down the stairs today Ive yelled in pain, after yesterdays workout.

Today I found level 1 not as hard as yesterday in terms of stamina, but my body screamed in protest...I pushed through it Wink

Im with everyone on the clothes in the wardrobe - I have a pile of unworn size 10 jeans, all bought before got pregnant...I am going to wear them even if jillian kills me in the process Hmm

yuno...yes! I just cannot co-ordinate my arms and legs at the same time either which doesnt help!

prettybird · 23/11/2010 18:10

If you think the side lunges with eye level arm raies, just wait until the V-raises with squats in Level 2.Shock IMHO they are the nastiest exercise in the whole DVD.

However, 2nd time around, I am now doing withme with 2kg weights - even if I don't quite manage bringin my arms up to eye level every time Blush And I make a lot of hiffing and puffing BlushBlush I also find that closing my eyes helps HmmBlush

notyummy · 23/11/2010 19:23

Hi ladies, just a quick point - look back on the last thread and you will see loads of links to the evidence that you will NOT get huge muscles by upping the weights a bit. It takes a LOT (i.e a specialised diet, probably steriods, and lifting, like, 120kg dead lifts) to bulk up a woman. We are not designed to build big muscles, as we lack some of the core ingredients (such as larger amounts of testostorone.) So when you feel like a bit more of a challenge, don't use 'bulking up' as an excuse to slightly up the weights!

Oh - and well done all!

LostGirl · 23/11/2010 20:25

Yes, please listen to notyummy, you will not bulk up. If you want to keep seeing changes then you must keep increasing the weight. If you merely want to maintain what you have then keep doing the same thing. I weight train and lift heavy (ie 5 sets of 4 reps), though only 70 kg deadlifts so far Wink , and am smaller than I've ever been, definitely not bulky. Do not fear the weights!!
