Yay day 7 done Smile, it's definatly not hurting as much now. 3 more days then I'll start level 2 Confused

lilly153 · 02/01/2011 18:05

Just completed level 1 days 5 defently not hurting anywhere near as much, can I ask a few questions to some of the experts on this will this actualy help me lose weight or just tone up I've got about a stone and a half of baby weight to shift
Should I diet while doing this I've cut out pretty much all the junk

LostGirl · 02/01/2011 20:11

Two things: firstly, muscle 'tone' is not something that you can actually see. When people say they look more toned what has actually happened is they have lost some body fat which covers the muscles so they can see more definition if that makes sense? Secondly, throw your scales out as they are not the best way to measure your success as our weight fluctuates wildly for many different reasons on a day to day basis. The dvd will definitely help you to lose body fat and you will lose inches of your body and your clothes will be looser, but you may not lose a great amount of weight, especially if you are fairly new to exercise as your muscles will retain more water for a while which will of course affect your weight. You do not to 'diet', just try and make good choices for 90% of the time.

lilly153 · 02/01/2011 23:22

ok thanks LostGirl yes that makes sence thanks for the info

conquita · 02/01/2011 23:27

Level 2 Day 19 done

Did NOT want to get up and do this today, but thought if I don't do the cardio then at least I can do the weights. Anyway, I ended up doing it all, and feel quite pleased with myself.

Mickey, good luck with not smoking, it is a nightmare, I had to cut out alcohol too so I could quite. Oh, and I started knitting Hmm!

Keep it up Lilly, although you may not see much weight loss at first, please don't give up. You will be amazed how your body will change regarding the phsyical side of things, you will feel more energised, and like someone else mentioned on here, things improve ahem down there too ]wink]!

lilly153 · 03/01/2011 00:09

Haha thanks conquita lol
I'm defenetly going to keep it up because I no it will help improve my fitness and improve my body shape in some ways I'm just a bit conserned in the way I really want to loose my belly flab had it 3 years now and its really starting to get me down

LostGirl · 03/01/2011 06:55

lily everyone carries their weight differently so will see different results from the same exercise routines. I carry most of my weight on my hips and thighs so when I started losing weight that was the last place that I saw a difference, so if you carry alot of 'belly flab' as you call it then you will probably see changes in your arms and legs first before you start noticing changes in your stomach. Fat is a bit like all this snow, the small thin layers melt first but the huge drifts can take weeks to disappear! Try taking a picture now and then one in thirty days and you will definitely see a difference between the two.

conquita · 03/01/2011 08:06

LostGirl I really like your advice. I try and think along the lines of that it took a fair amount of time to put the weight on, so you cannot expect start to lose it within a couple of weeks. Did you do/are doing the 30 day shred?

LostGirl · 03/01/2011 10:31

I did the shred this time last year.

redderthanred · 03/01/2011 11:14

hello all. long time no speak!!

First day back on the shred today.

I did one day on the 23rd i think it was. I still had flu. it was silly of me. I paid for it on the 24th.

And then ive pretty much stuffed my face and done nothing since then.

But i was feeling awful. Blimp like, and slow, with no energy.

I was 3 days off finishing the 30 days. But seeing as i had not exercised in 10 days, i deciced to go back to level 1, with heavier weights, and do the full strenght natalie versions.

It was harder than i remembered. :)

But im pleased i did it. Im going back to every day again now. I still have the banish fat boost metabolism one, i dont think im ready for that yet, maybe in another two weeks or something.

VJay · 03/01/2011 11:15

LostGirl your advice is really good thanks Smile, I have about 3 stone to lose and most of it seems to be on my tummy, but I will listen to what you say and not get down hearted when I don't see it shift fast Smile

Day 8 level 1 done, I found it quite tiring today, maybe because I was up a few times with ds2, but I did it!

lilly153 · 03/01/2011 13:03

Yeah thanks lostgirl its good to get some info as I wasn't really sure but what you say makes a lot of sence I guess its just going to take longer than I hoped but at least this is the healtheir option rather than a fad diet that never last anyways
Think I will take a picture as well just to see the difference in 30 days

toobusytothink · 03/01/2011 19:49

Level 2 day 5 done and dare O say it, I'm now finding level 2 ok ... Just 2 things I can't quite do

  1. Squat thrusts - I do the full version but can't quite keep the speed up
  1. The "V Raises" I can't quite complete the 2nd load. Would ideally like to take off half a kilo per weight for them but no time during the workout.

Otherwise - bring it on. Haven't lost any weight and can't tell any different inch wise but hey ho. At least I didn't put on any over Xmas

conquita · 03/01/2011 22:46

Level 2 day 20 done

tomorrow I move on to level 3. Sweet baby Jesus and the orphans pray for me sisters!

Great to see you back Redder!

Lostgirl, how did you find the shred? did it work for you? I feel you are an expert on weight loss, please talk some sense to me Grin

toobusy, I too find the v raises hard, at first they hurt my wrists but I am ok now.
Can you do that plank move where you jump your knees towards you and back? I can just about do one set of those now. I don't I am doing the abs twist at the end correctly, Killian says it is intense but I don't feel anything? Hmm

I have not lost any weight, I went shopping for shorts yesterday [I am in Australia and it is summer here] I got so depressed with my physical shape. I did not buy any. But something has to be working surely? I do feel alot fitter that is for sure. My waist looks smaller....I guess all will be revealed when I weigh and measure myself in 11 days time.

HereMeRoar · 03/01/2011 23:42

Day 7 completed at last Smile. The real test will be tomorrow when dh is back at work. Will I get up early enough to do it in the morning Hmm?

LostGirl · 04/01/2011 07:30

conquita I definitely noticed a difference after doing the shred, mainly in my arms and shoulders and the top half of my abs really flattened out... I still had an arse like a baby elephant and thighs like tree trunks though as this is where my 'fat drift' is Grin. Before I started the shred I finally accepted two things, firstly that there was no point in looking at other women's body and thinking 'that's what I want to look like', as it is impossible to achieve someone elses results without having their genes. Instead I decided to aim to be the best that I could be, to be stronger and fitter and make the most of my body. Secondly I had to accept that I couldn't do this without changing the way I ate, which was a lot of chocolate and bread everyday. I'd always gone on stupid diets and seen them as depriving me of food, this time I looked at how best to feed and fuel my body to help me achieve my aims.

Don't forget to keep congratulating yourself on what you have achieved so far, when you are having a bad day go back through this thread and read some of your earlier posts where you have written about the changes you are noticing in yourself.

A tip if you want to move on from doing press ups on your knees is to not do them on your knees at all but always do them with a straight body on your feet but put your hands on something higher than the floor so you are at an incline. You could start with the back of the sofa, then move down to the arm, then a coffee table then a couple of thick books and then to doing full press ups on the floor. This way you are gradually increasing the amount of weight on your arms, whereas trying to go from your knees to full press ups is a huge increase in the weight you are trying to push. Always concentrate on having a full range of motion in the movement, ie your chest should come nearly to the floor. There is no point in doing full push ups if you're only moving up and down a couple of inches.

Enjoy level 3 today Grin

VJay · 04/01/2011 14:32

Day 9 level 1 done Smile

I have watched the level 2 and I'm a little nervous it looks a lot harder!

Lostgirl I'm going to try the press-ups like you suggest tomorrow, thanks Smile

HereMeRoar · 04/01/2011 22:14

Yippee! I got up early and did it this am Grin. Huge pat on the back for me. Now I just have to manage that every day Hmm.

VJay I actually misread your post as level 9 day 1 Shock Shock Shock. Caused my heart rate to jump somewhat, as I thought holy shit there are 8 more levels!!

Thank you for the press up tip Grin. I will try it that way, it makes a lot of sense.

Today I completed day 8 on level 1. It's much easier now and today I managed all th final abs section (although took a couple of 5 second pauses elsewhere). I feel I need to do something else to help bump up my aerobic fitness too, but am not going to start anything yet, as want to get life properly back to normal after the Christmas break first and don't want to start too many new things all at once. Maybe at the start of next week Smile. I am also now getting a little bored of the level 1 routine, so will be ready to move onto level 2 in a couple of days.

What I would love is a series of (say) 7 20 min routines on another DVD, so that once I get to the end of my 30 days there are a series of different ones that I could cycle through repeatedly without getting too bored. The 20 mins thing really works for me. 20 mins I really can fit in any day. 30 mins seems a much bigger ask. I would also feel less motivated to keep doing it if it were just pilates or toning, because I wouldn't feel puffed at the end. It's that which makes me feel like I've done something worthwhile more than the aching (which has largely subsided now anyway).

conquita · 04/01/2011 22:43

Level 3 Day 21 done

Ohmygod I loved Level 3!!! It is brilliant. There were a few of moves I was familiar with from days gone by doing core strength and yoga moves. It was only in circuit 3 when I had issues with a couple of moves, but I think I will move from modified to full on versions in a couple of days. Am sooo excited that I like this level and it means I will do it every day for the next 9 days with glee and will have finished the whole regime!

For anyone interested, my heart rate monitor recorded the following:

Duration: 28 mins 25 secs
Calories: 219
Average heart rate: 135
Max heart rate: 162
Fat burn: 09:44
Fitness: 18.41

Thank you lostgirl for your response Smile, I have a massive arse and tree trunk legs. But I always have done, even when I was 14 and tiny in the waist and shoulders, my arse could black out a stair well when I walked up the stairs. I was always very very embarrassed about this especially when wearing a swimsuit.

well done for getting up early and doing this hearmeroar. When you have finished the 30 days why not start it again and combine it with the couch to 5k regime?

LostGirl · 05/01/2011 08:31

'my arse could black out a stair well' Grin. Conquita I think you must be mad, you love level 3??? You love the jumping lunges, jumping squats, and the rock stars??? With regards to being a pear shape whilst there is nothing you can do to spot reduce the fat on your lower half I have found with weight training the past year that my shoulders look broader and my waist is narrower which makes me look more balanced top and bottom if that makes sense?

With regards to what to do after you have finished the 30 day shred, if you keep doing the shred you will maintain the results that you have seen in doing it the first time, to keep seeing changes then you need to do something different to keep challenging your body. If you do repeat the shred then do it with heavier weights and in the cardio parts try to increase the number of jumping jacks etc you do each time.

HereMeRoar · 05/01/2011 13:16

Day 9 done Smile. I got up extra early and completed all if level 1 (modified press-ups) Grin

chocoholic · 05/01/2011 14:12

Hello all,
Please am I allowed to sneak back in here?

After sweating my way through to day 25 I phoned it in all over christmas and I swapped shredding for chocolates, biscuits, cheese and crisps. Have lost all previous muscles and have been replaced by a rather hefty wadge of fat.

Back to the beginning for me with level 1 day 1 Blush. No where near as bad as L1D1 last time though - phew!

VJay · 05/01/2011 20:11

Grin heremeroar at the 9 levels.

I did day 10 today, but now I feel ill, sore and swollen throat and aching limbs, I wonder if my body knows I'm due to start level 2 tomorrow Hmm

toobusytothink · 05/01/2011 22:20

Level 2 day 7 (I think) done. Seems to be taking its toll now though as my body is feeling sluggish. Do you think that's it's way of saying take a day off or do you think that means it is changing ???? I feel if I take one day off, it will lead to another and another, where as at the moment I see it as a necessary part of the day. DH reckons you should start to see a difference after 2 weeks, so I am looking. Thing is that I am quite muscular anyway, particularly in the arms and the top of my abs. It's the lower abs and hips that need to lose the layer of flab. But makes sense that therefore that will be the last place it goes from. And I do still stuff my face at break time with biscuits so can't expect to lose much I guess ...

conquita · 05/01/2011 22:31

Level 3 day 22 done

Last night my body felt really tired, just like you toobusy and vjay, very sluggish. I still did it today though. Yes lostgirl! I do love it. I think it is because it is so varied. It is a really mixed up workout. So much better than level 1 and 2 thats for sure. I am amazed I can do the travelling push ups.

I think after the 30 days I will carry on with shredding. Maybe stick to level 3 for one week and go the opposite direction, down to level 2 and then 1. Combining it with running every other day.

Keep up with it chocoholic, it is great you have started again and you find it easier then when you very first started it.
