Cairns I think you've hit the nail on the head when you talk about not worrying about gains. I think most dieting fails when people do get despondent about gains or stalls that they can't account for and the whole thing seems unachievable.

But, on the DD, after the first few weeks, I reckon every single person has realised that what you've eaten or how much you've moved about isn't immediately correlated with what the scales say. So then, the next thing that happens is, when you do get an "gain" day, instead of feeling cross or gloomy, it's easier to keep plodding on, on the grounds that one morning in the next week, 2k will suddenly have disappeared...taken away by the fairies...
That's my reasoning, anyway! Maintaining diet behaviour is totally psychological.

Today, I was down 0.6k, which makes 1.7k lost since last Friday. Who knows what the next week may bring? Bizarrely, I ate cold tandoori chicken and raita for breakfast, so will now look forward to my eggs with a nice salad nicoise for dinner Smile

PS Is anyone eating hot chocolate porridge? It is beyond divine...

cairns · 17/03/2011 18:12

Wow forever well done, you are going to have to name change now Wink
Nero agree with the physcology of it all, this diet does work for many people but is especially effective if you are in the zone. I think it helps that quantities aren't restricted as that helps stop feeling hungry and bizarrely i lost more when i upped my protein quantitiesI did read somewhere that we lose weight in packets so that might help understand what happened to me , nothing for ages then whoosh suddenly drop 2kgs overnight.

foreverondiet · 21/03/2011 15:07

Well after doing so well last week, we had a very sociable weekend, out at friends on saturday for lunch and then people to us on sunday for dinner. So was 9 stone 6.5 this morning. Ok I know as thats dukan true weight but still 3lbs up on Friday.

I find it impossible to stick to diet in these situations. Passed on rice/potatoes but of course ate desserts Blush. Find restuarants easy as order most suitable thing on menu... So doing a protein day today, will do PV tomorrow and and back to consolidation on wed. I think Monday will be my PP day because will need it right after weekend!!! Realistically would rather be careful all week and then be more laid back at weekend.

tracywells · 22/03/2011 13:30

Hello everyone! I just found this thread today and I'm going to read as much of it as I can for inspiration! I'm on Day 5 of Attack phase but I have over 40lbs to lose so I'm carrying on with it for two more days. My True Weight is supposed to be 11 stone 1lb, but I'm aiming a bit lower than that, I'll see how I go. I'm a bit suspicious because I entered the wrong details twice yet the site kept coming up with 11 stone 1lb?
Two newbie questions if anyone knows the answers - are the big Muller Lite yogurts okay?! I'm buying the toffee and the vanilla ones (not the one with choc sprinkles!) and the carb content is over 7g. I'm not sure if that's a good idea but they and the diet coke are the only things keeping me out of the biscuit tin.
Also I want to do the 5/5 days method on cruise. Do you go from attack phase to 5 days veggies or do you have another 5 days of protein-only before the veg days start? The book isn't clear! Thanks

foreverondiet · 22/03/2011 22:24

Hi Tracey - yoghurts ok if no fat or sugar, so check ingredients. If they keep you out of biscuit tin then thats great. Diet drinks ok on dukan too but best not to drink more than 1 or 2 per day.

I think if doing 5/5 days on cruise you just do 5 protein and veggie days right after the attack.

I think the true weight comes out quite high if you have been overweight for a while. Get there and then see.

foreverondiet · 26/03/2011 21:48

article about dukan diet in todays times but can't post link due to their stupid paywall....

tracywells · 28/03/2011 11:30

Thanks foreverondiet:) I'm into the cruise phase now and though I'm enjoying the veggies I seem to have put some of the weight back on - I never thought veg would do that! I'm not having any junk food cravings though so I'm pretty comfortable for the time being.

Has anyone else struggled with cooking the galettes? Maybe I need better pans, but with the tiny amount of oil Dukan allows half of it welds itself to the bottom of the pan, I tried it on a high heat and it scorched within seconds:D It's frustrating because I actually quite like them.

foreverondiet · 28/03/2011 11:47

Tracey I bought a new non stick pan in John Lewis for galettes and eggs... its their own make, small omelette pan, goes in dishwasher and I get away with a couple of sprays of fry light. So yes might need new pan.

Another option is to cook them in the oven in silicone muffin cases.

I am still following dukan principles but adding in other things, eg celebration meal, some nuts, some fruit etc. Not strictly following consolidation rules though but making it work for me.... was 9 3.5 this morning, so have maintained this weight for a week which is great.

LolaStar · 28/03/2011 23:47

So finally, after what seems like weeks, I've worked my way through both of the Dukan threads! Sigh of relief!

Hope it's okay for me to join, I'm not a mummy but the thread looks really great for some Dukan support!

Been on the diet for almost five weeks now, lost a stone - give or take the few lbs of water I'm retaining since it's my TOTM :(. Boyfriend is such a sweetie too, he started it with me for a bit of moral support and has lost almost 16lbs.

Tracywells I've found that instead of flipping the gallette and risking the pile of scrambled mush, I grill the top once 80% had finished cooking. I pop it under for about 2 minutes and it comes out perfect.

Read the Times article on Dukan, Dr D seems very funny. Wasn't sure what they were really trying to say about the diet though!

Anyway, you're all doing so great! Keep up the good work ladies!

LS xx

BornAgainDomesticGoddess · 29/03/2011 05:39

May I ask a question, please? I have 4 weeks to diet and plan to use Dukan. How long can I do the 'Attack' phase for? Thanks!

foreverondiet · 29/03/2011 09:50

lolastar welcome! great you've lost a stone! And well done to your boyfriend!

bornagain - some people do attack for up to 10 days. I did 5 at the start which seemed like a lot. As you want to loose as much as you can in a month then do at least 5? How far off your target are you?

I reached my true weight, and am doing consolidation - am adding other foods, but not following the consolidation rules so strictly... would rather follow the original diet some days to the letter and then when I have social engagements can indulge a little, whilst learning to exercise control Smile.

coldcat · 29/03/2011 11:36

Hi all

After 8 weeks on Dukan (& 2 slip ups) I've lost 10 lbs - happy enough but a little frustrated at the slow progess. Have only 20lbs to loose - like cairns and greenfig- but seem to be taking a lot longer to get to consolidation. Any tips for speeding things up?

BornAgainDomesticGoddess · 29/03/2011 11:37

Thanks foreverondiet. Yeah, I'm quite a way off my target, but just want to lose as much as possible in the next month.

How do you feel on the 'Attack' menu? Is it hard?

foreverondiet · 29/03/2011 12:00

Bornagain why not see how it goes, ie I initially thought I'd do 3 days but after 3 days scales still down each so thought I'd keep on going for as long as scales kept dropping each morning, so did 5. After 5 days though was really bored of the food! I felt fine just bored but I love vegetables!

coldcat speeding things up - hard to say, probably different for everyone... are you eating stacks of dairy? limit vegetables to green not starchy ones... also look at calories too? I have to confess that I do log everything and keep a note of calories as well.

coldcat · 29/03/2011 14:27

Foreverondiet - hmmmm having about 3-4 yoghurts (generally Activia fat free vanilla) and a latte per day. Perhaps I should cut back and see what happens - Am ok with veg - only having non-starch ones but am eating rhubarb. Maybe I should start making those custard flans and other dukan recipes. Is there a dukan recipe thread anywhere?

foreverondiet · 29/03/2011 14:51

coldcat re: vanilla activia - do they not contain corn syrup?

Yoghurt only ok if sweetened with only artificial sweetner. I have been sticking to dairy with carb content below 4g-5g per 100g. Best bet is totals 0%, but tesco greek style fat free, and tesco fat free normandy fromage frais also quite low in carbs and they are cheaper. Maybe have one as a treat each day?

Also he says no more than 500g of dairy a day, so a latte would be 250g, plus each yoghurt 125g so you are over the diary limit?

I haven't bothered with the dukan recipies, but do use myfitnesspal to monitor carbs and also calories.

tracywells · 29/03/2011 17:45

Thanks lola and forever, I am going to have to invest in a better pan if I'm going to be eating these galettes for the foreseeable future! Grilling the top part makes sense as I cannot get it to stay in one piece. I'll try that tomorrow.

I don't know how any other cruisers feel about lamb but Tesco are selling fresh lamb chops at half price at the moment, I know it's banned on attack for being too fatty but I think it's fine after?

I'm on day 12 of the diet now and I'm getting some weird dreams when I sleep, like my brain is confused Grin I feel really tired. I also feel a bit light headed sometimes, but I suppose my system is still adjusting to no carbs. Our cat is absoloutely thriving thanks to this diet, she's getting all the scraps from the salmon, beef, chicken, cod, etc - I've never seen her fur look more glossy!

foreverondiet · 29/03/2011 18:50

re: galette if you leave it in frying pan until pretty much cooked through and then just try and flip for last bit its easier.

pirahamorgana · 30/03/2011 10:07

Hi,can I join ?
I spent yesterday evening reading the thread and am really inspired by you all.
Am starting attack today and off to shops now with my list.

ML ends on 9 May and am currently 4 stone heavier than when my colleagues saw me last - well, pre dc 5,that is.
I have to get some of this off before then,or I will be returning to work in huge maternity shirts and leggings!

Am 5.6 and 14 st . My true weight is apparently 10st 8.
Any ideas how much I could lose by May?

Housemum · 30/03/2011 10:08

Hi - have not had time to plough through the whole thread but am leaping onto here as starting Day 1 today (keep procrastinating, read the Times article and thought sod it here we go! As I am a procrastinator who needs bullying, I have bought the programme (the Dukan site was giving a 20% discount, also I went through Quidco so am hoping will get the 15% cashback too). It was great to get my e-mail this morning reminding me what to do. Have just had breakfast (poached egg on a slice of lean ham as luckily had that in the fridge already) and am off to shop for my oatbran/yoghurt etc.

Frustratingly, it will not look exactly right on the stats as I entered my weight 2lb lighter than it should have been and can't see a way of changing it, so will probably look as if I gained weight on day 1 when Ifill in my summary tonight :(

Housemum · 30/03/2011 10:10

Pirahamorgana - did you get the True Weight from the website? Before actually paying, it told me what my true weight was and when I should reach it - there was a sort of graph as well, can you work out from that whereabouts you'd be by May?

pirahamorgana · 30/03/2011 13:33

Hi Housemum - I signed up for the online programme too.It says I will be 13st 8lb by April 4th,then at my goal weight by 1st August.I can't work out what the in between weights will be......find it hard to believe I will have got it all off by August...but will have faith!

I weighed 3lb lighter today than yesterday and I only started this morning,so I am out of synch already (got my period today, which is probably why).

Just back from shops.Ate two packs of crayfish while driving home and bowl of quark with smoked salmon since sitting down....I have got into the habit of eating tons of carbs, and basically anything I want, all day, while sitting on the sofa bf-ing and MN-ing.

Much change needed!

Housemum · 30/03/2011 13:52

I see what you mean, have just had another look. I suppose you could average it out by taking the total weight to be lost and dividing by the number of weeks on the Cruise phase.

Have been good so far but I think the next few days will drag. I keep thinking about food! Made the galette for lunch, had it with cottage cheese and prawns, was quite nice actually. I don't have cholesterol problems so used whole egg not just the white. I'm planning the chicken curry off the website tonight, so we can eat together but DH/DD1 can have rice with theirs.

If the protein diet doesn't give me bad breath the onions will! I have bought a big bag of shallots and of onions, are breath mints allowed or will the miniscule amount of carbohydrate stuff it all up? I should ask them really, to be fair on everyone else I meet!

Housemum · 30/03/2011 13:55

Found the answer to the breath question - sugar free gum is OK!

pirahamorgana · 30/03/2011 14:26

5ib a week sounds unlikely! (and unhealthy?)

Want chocolate! And how to do this without wine?! And not even at the end of day 1 Confused Grin
