Be careful with the ready cooked chicken as they tend to have the skins still on and are higher fat than you would cook at home! I have found the tins of sardines/mackerel (on special offer in Tesco) at the moment are great for that lunchtime salad when on PV and have them with a little cottage cheese too. They do some naughty ones in curry sauce and spicy tomato sauce which arent too bad if you dont use them every time and save you using a salad dressing as they are so yummy.
BTW I found the oatbran in the cereal isle of my Tesco for only 99p and that was on 3 for 2 last week too Grin

nenevomito · 02/03/2011 08:57

Hi All, well at the start of day 3 of Dukan I've lost 2lb Shock.

I know a lot of it is water, but still Shock. I am 5st over ideal weight for height and 4 stone off my preferred weight, which would explain it, but it was still positive.

I'm starting the day off with an omelet with turkey or fish. Having chicken with fat free yoghurt and mint dip or cottage cheese and smoked salmon for lunch and then have been cooking in the evening. Last night I made spicy burgers from extra lean mince. I feel like I've been eating so much so was pretty astounded to have lost anything at all.

nenevomito · 02/03/2011 08:57

I also had a dukan galette nighmare so have taken to adding the oatbran into what I cook at night instead. It was great for binding together the burgers.

LongIslandIcedTea · 02/03/2011 11:15

Aaah cant get it right can I?!! I stood there in the cereal/porridge section for about 5minutes scanning the shelves and couldnt see the oatbran there in both supermarkets! And now ive brough the wrong type of chicken! Confused

foreverondiet · 02/03/2011 12:34

Well done everyone. Well I am now on day 4 of another attack phase. I did 5 days a month ago and lost 5lbs but decided that I missed vegetables too much to do the cruise phase. Well I kept the weight off but didn't loose more and was stuck for 3 weeks.

Anyway on the morning of day 4 have lost 3lbs!!! Can't believe its possible, and now only 1lb from dukan true weight, 2lbs from original target. Happier this time round as have found a lunch that I like - 250mg of fat free fromage frais with a can of tuna!

This has motivated me to stick with it, as it clearly agrees with me, I really agree with the idea of having an diet consolidation phase as thats the most vulnerable time.

divadoll · 02/03/2011 12:34

[LongIslandIcedTea] it wont make that much difference to start with anyhow so dont fret. Get into the habit of the food first before refining your choices and it will come a bit easier

cairns · 02/03/2011 12:51

Well done forever you are v v nearly there now just one last push, well done.
I don't understand how it works either with eating protein , in his book it is something to do with your body having to work hard to digest it or something and it is very filling, so I guess even if you feel you are eating loads, you probably aren't and what is eaten is half burnt off metabolising it, v odd but hey it works.

foreverondiet · 02/03/2011 12:58

cairns but yesterday I ate 1,400 calories which is more than I have eaten in ages, as "limit" on normal diet was 1,200 but was still a pound down again this morning. Also had a lot of dairy yesterday which contains milk sugars so was sure I would have blown it.

cairns · 02/03/2011 13:25

Tbh I don't understand it that much either. But the way I thought of it calorie wise was say you ate 1400 mainly protein calories, then your body would use say 30% of that to metabolise it, so a net 1000cals. Whereby if those calories were carbs then only 7% is used to metabolise it so net 1300 cals eaten. That's how I have understood this protein thing. I am sure there is more to it though, plus it makes you feel full etc etc . Odd

foreverondiet · 02/03/2011 14:18

cairns I think its a combination of that (ie it using calories to metabolise protein) and also that there is less fluid rentention (as no veggies initally) on dukan which is why you get such dramatic weight loss at the start but then it slows down.

My 1,200 calorie a day diet was quite low in carbs though, maybe 30%-40% of calories, but ate stacks of veggies?

I am not complaining, just hope I can maintain it.

OTTMummA · 03/03/2011 00:33

Hello, can i join?!

Have been slowly getting used to more protien in my diet the last week, and tomorrow will be starting attack phase for 7 days.

My true weight is 11 st 8lbs, i am 5ft 7.
I am currently 18st 10 Shock!
Have lost about 2 st in the last year from going back to work, it is a manual job, so it helps.
But still have lots more to lose, as you can see.

Tomorrow i will have my normal fresh coffee (black), but with sweetner instead of my sugar.

Have some fresh eggs aswell, so a plain omlette will do me, as i can't stand strong flavours in the morning.

I have t do my shop tomorrow for the next week, just a few questions, can i get low fat natural yog?
because a few of the ones i have seen have got sugar and carbs in them, are these ok, so long as the fat is negligable?

And, the sauces in the dukan book, are they all for attack? or only for cruise, it doesn't say, or it does and no matter how many times i read it, it won't make sense.

Oh and i plan on having marinated soy and garlic chicken friday, is there a certain soy sauce i should use? I only have a dark soy in the cuboard!

TIA, Nic

divadoll · 03/03/2011 07:33

Go for yogs that have as few carbs as poss. The best ones are without fruit...like vanilla but the citrus ones are better than the berry ones. Watch the carbs go up as the fat comes down with most yogs. As for soy I am not sure as I thought it was only salt and so not containing fat or sugar but I must be wrong. Dont forget that a high salt intake will muck up your water levels and you may retain water with using it.

foreverondiet · 03/03/2011 09:24

Best yoghurts are those that are fat free and lowest in carboyhydrates - eg fat free greek yoghurt. Should be able to find ones with 4g of carbs per 100g yoghurt.

Avoid any with sugar added although in the book allows a couple of fruit ones (with artificial sweetner though).

nenevomito · 03/03/2011 13:40

I'm on day 4 of the attack phase and have lost 4lb - so one a day.

Has anyone out there got any creative ideas of Oatbran? I just can't get those galettes to work. I end up with what looks like scrambled galette!

Lunches have turned out to be easy - cooked chicken with mint raita made from 0 fat Greek yoghurt has been good as has Cottage cheese with smoked salmon or crayfish and gherkin. Dinners have been a bit weird and I need to think more about recipes if I'm going to stick at this.

I think now I'm just worried about what happens when I introduce veg after tomorrow. Will the weight loss stop or go up again?

Also can anyone recommend a flavoured low fat yoghurt that is OK for the diet? They are great for someone with a sweet tooth like me, but I can't work out which ones are OK and which aren't.

Thanks all :)

foreverondiet · 03/03/2011 14:24

babyheave I made the galettes this morning although didn't bother with a recipie. I think the trick is - to let the mixture sit for a few minutes before cooking so the oatbran absorbs some of the egg/yoghurt. To spoon into a frying pan on a low light and leave for quite a while until egg has time to set before turning. Otherwise put the mixture into a (silicone) muffin case and bake. I think if you use a paper case loads will stick to the sides.

Yoghurts I think onken do a vanilla one that was fat free sweetned with artificial sweetner that was nice.

divadoll · 03/03/2011 15:01

I just make porrige out of the oatbran with skimmed milk and a sweetener...1.5 mins in microwave and I am set for a session at the gym, and it is quite filling for such a small portion, but you DO have to let it sit to thicken

cairns · 03/03/2011 21:31

There is a fab recipe for oatbran muffins on the recipe thread that was set up on this board. I made them using all oatbran quantities and not wheat bran and they really work well and are sooo easy. I am a microwave porridge fan too.

I also found sugar free, low calorie jelly a fab alternative to yoghurt for something sweet. zero carbs, zero fat and you can add ff yoghurt to it too. Hartleys have just started ready made ones in pots too so ultra convenient.

OTTMummA · 03/03/2011 22:29

Ok, today i bought:
Tesco Light choices Normandy Fromage Frais, each 100g is 3.3 carbs/sugar, and 0.2 fat.

Quark, each 100g is 4.1 carbs/sugar 0.2g fat.

Total 0% fat free greek yoghurt, each 100g is 4g carbs/sugar 0 fat.

Are these ok? best i could find really!

and the oatbran.
Eggs, free range
Low fat/ lean ham slices, chicken and pastrami.
chicken breasts, cold water prawns, tinned tuna.

turmeric, crushed chilli flakes, and chinese 5 spice.
Soy, garlic and teryaki (sp) marinade.

oh, and caffiene and sugar free coke, the gold one!

Is there any squash i can have? ie, no sugar carbs etc?

OTTMummA · 03/03/2011 22:32

anyone know how to jazz up a tin of tuna btw?! Grin
Thats gonna be dry with no mayo Sad

foreverondiet · 03/03/2011 23:20

OTTMummA - I have been having tuna (whole tin) and fromage frais (250g) for lunch and have been enjoying it!!!

Squash should be ok, provided no sugar & juice content low, look for carbs per 100g

Well was planning to do 5 PP days but by this evening had enough and had some veggies for dinner. That's ok. Would rather cave in and eat veggies (broccoli & mushrooms) than anything else!

divadoll · 04/03/2011 08:11

So thrilled...been stagnant at 69.4-69.9 for 3 weeks now and then on the scales this morning I am 68.4...YIPPEE, its moving again at last. Could be the major toilet runs I had yesterday (bit of a build up Blush.
Good news on the low Tesco fromage frais. I will have to look out for them

nenevomito · 04/03/2011 08:32

:(

Well last night it went wrong as I went to my folks for dinner and despite me saying I was on this diet they had cooked a full dinner and got very offended when I said I only wanted the meat and I ended up capitulating and eating the dinner. Damn parents and their ability to make you eat what's put in front of you. I'm middle aged FFS, I should be able to say no!!!!

Anyway, no weight loss this morning in face I think it had crept back up, so straight back onto Dukan this morning and an extra day of attack to make up for it.

Time to invest in some decent scales too!

OTTMummA · 04/03/2011 10:57

Babyheave, that is really rude of your parents.
Next time tell them you will not be eating food that isn't included on your diet, so if they take offence, it really isn't your problem.

OTTMummA · 04/03/2011 11:05

Good morning all,

I started attack today instead of thursday, wasn't really organised properly until last night.

Made the galett this morning, made 2, one for me, one for DH as he was curious lol.

not too bad, i cook a lot, so could tell when they needed flipping.
i let the mixture stand for a while aswell, in a small jug and the poured it out into my pan rubbed with oil.
takes about 1-2 mins first side, just shake the pan to see if it wobbles, if to wet ontop still, i just leave a little.
Flip over, (i looses the edges up first)
Makes a little splat, but ok, 2nd side only takes 20-30 secs and its done for me.

It had the consistancy between an omlette and thick pancake.
Not bad, but will try t sweet tomorrow with splenda.

I had my galett with 1 poached egg and 3 slices of lean ham, coffee and am now sipping cold water.
Feel full but am constantly thinking about food, ie, what i can have and if i feel hungry or not lol.

have got some chinese spiced chicken strips marinating in the fridge for lunch, not sure what to have with it though Confused im sure it will do though.
and sauteed prawns in garlic and herbs for dinner, yum!

foreverondiet · 04/03/2011 12:53

babyheave so rude of your parents. FWIW if I am eating with other people always made that meal a protein and vegetable meal as don't want other judgemental people saying the diet isn't healthy. I am staying with my parents (abroad) next week for a few days and I have said I am doing carb free diet. My mum was so SO VERY rude to me in July - basically told me I was so fat I was putting my health at risk. I had a BMI of 30 and a 4 month old EBF baby FFS. So if she makes any comment now then I'd just tell her she should be glad I listened to her. Parents eh. Put it down to experience...

Well I was 9 stone 5.6lbs this morning - Dukan true weight was 9 stone 6lbs (and original target was 9 stone 5lbs) I guess I'm going to do a week or so of protein and vegetable before start adding consolidation things because I just went down 4lbs this week (4.5 PP days) just to make sure it stays.
