So today is D day! Diet starts today, I have my first slimming world class tonight and i am feeling quite motivated. I think I probably have around 3 stones to lose, but i would be happy to even lose 2. I just feel fat and unhealthy and have never been this big before!

So today is day 1 of sorting myself out! Just wondered if anyone else was starting today too, not just slimming world, but any thing, and wanted to have somewhere to chat, swap ideas, or get some moral support?

well me and a freind started on fri, I have 3 stone tro lose, not slimming world as I can't afford it, I am keeping a food diary and not exceeding 1500 kcals a day. we are going to do a weekly weigh in and put a couple of pounds in a jar so we can go clothes shopping when we are all lovely and slim.
my main prob is beer in the evening, I am hoping that will be an easier habit to break once the kids are back at school.
have also been taking my puppy for increasing walks as she is growing up and will need to be taking her out for a lng walk most days now, I am goin g to try and do half an hour a day.
good luck at your class.

Thanks both!

I tried doing it myself at home but I just lacked the willpower, having to go to a class, pay money and be weighed in front of someone else is the motivation I need.

My main problem is snacking in the evening and too many take aways, but that will all stop now.

The class went well, it has all changed from before, Riven, now everything that was free on both a green and red day is free everyday...I can't see how it can possibly work, but everyone at the class seemed to be losing and doing well so fingers crossed.

I am going to increase my exercise too, having your puppy is a good way to get you out and about and walking. I am going to try and walk more too.

glad you enjoyed the class, I lost a lot of weight before and I did most of it on my own and then joinmed slimming world for the last stone which was harder and I had lost motivation.
my cook yourself slim book has just arrived that I ordered from book people for £3 so lots of lovely recipes to try for nights when the kids are having sausage and chips and stuff.

ElizabethWakefield · 31/08/2010 19:09

Good luck with the cook yourself slim book, you will have to let me know if there are any good recipes in it.

I have made a few batches of low fat meals and frozen them (veggie chilli and veggie curry etc) so I can pull one out of the freezer on nights when I need them Grin

Hi Elizabeth, dita and Riven - can I join you too? Started on Sunday, but just doing it from home. I'm sticking to doing the red and green days, as I found only having 1 healthy extra from the lists per day a bit too restrictive. If I stick to the diet I lose lots, but it's just staying with it after the first few days weeks. DH and I both need to lose about 2 stone, so we are turning our garage into a mini-gym, so hopefully we will use it together and spur each other on. Hope it's all going well for everyone so far. Will we be having an online weigh-in as I know that would help me loads?

WynkenBlynkenandNod · 31/08/2010 19:48

Can I join please? I've been to a class 6 times and have lost 9lbs so far. Did go on holiday for a week in the middle. 5lbs of it was the first week so pretty slow considering I have loads to lose. A friend started the same time and has lost 17lbs and I'm finding it a bit annoying but never mind.

This week I have given up bananas, am having no more than 10 syns a day and will have a tantrum if I don't shift two pounds on Thursday morning.

ElizabethWakefield · 31/08/2010 20:13

Hi Surprise and Wynken, the more the merrier!

Turning your garage into a mini gym sounds great! I have an exercise bike and a step machine, but they are both just gathering dust (or being used as a coat hanger Blush)

I am trying to increase the amount of walking I do, I am going to walk to and from slimming world (a mile and a half each way) and walk home after I drop DD at brownies (another mile and a half) and go swimming on a Thursday, well that is the plan, we'll see how it goes!

9lbs is a good loss, your friend might just have more weight to lose, apparently the slower you lose it the more likely you are to keep it off! Just keep that in mind!

I think an online weigh in is a great idea. My weigh night is a Monday, what night is everyone elses? Smile

WynkenBlynkenandNod · 31/08/2010 22:22

Thanks Elizabeth. Friend needs to lose half of what I need to but have been telling myself about the losing slowly equals more likely to keep it on. Was just a bit demoralising sitting there with my half pound loss last week, with her one side losing 2.5 and someone on the other side losing 5 over 2 weeks. Plus keep getting weekly texts from another friend about her 3lb loss. But I am focusing on the long game and am determined to keep at it this time .

I weigh Thursday morning but can use Wii fit to weigh any other time.

ditavonteesed · 01/09/2010 08:04

wynken any loss is good, for me any not putting weight on seems to be good, I have put on a bout a pound a week for the last 6 months and I have proper had enough.
weighed myself this morning and I have lost 2 pounds since friday which I know is fantastic but at this point it feels like such a drop in the ocean, I guess this is the part when it is hard to keep the motivation going, although I did go out for carvery and have pudding and stuff on sun so not exactly starving myself.
The cook yourself thin book looks really good, lots of stuff about not starving yourself and having everything in moderation.

Surprise garage mini gym sounds great, I have been doing half an hour on wii fit everyday as well as dog walking. not much but it has to be better than nothing and I figure if you over do it you just put yourself off.
I am really worried about when the kids go back, dd1 tom and dd2 next week as I hate being in the house on my own and don't want to start comfort eating.
going to look at the gym and see if any classes I fancy.
elizabeth, I can weigh any night, actually I seem to weigh myself daily, have to be careful not to weigh myself more than once a day as I can become a bit obsessed.

I am aiming for 2lbs a week for first 2 stone and then 1lb a week until target.
should hit target about march next year if that works any sooner obviously a major bonus, got my sil's wedding next june and intend to wear one of these dresses and look amaz8ing so lots of work to do.

dizzytrout · 01/09/2010 13:40

Hi, could I join too? :)

I joined 6 weeks ago, have LOADS of weight to lose before our wedding in December (5 stone if possibleBlush)

Lost 13.5 lbs so far....

WynkenBlynkenandNod · 01/09/2010 14:13

Oh dear, what an old whinge bag I was last night! I feel far more positive about it all today and accept that it will just take a long time and I'm in it for the duration.

Dizzy, that is a fantastic loss in that time, what a great incentive you have to look forward to, congratulations.

Diva, which of the dresses is it, I've just got the front page. I think having a dress to aim for, wedding or other is a great idea, I might have a look around for one after Christmas when I've lost some more. My Mum said the Eat yourself Thin series was good but I missed it, will keep an eye out for the book.

Am off to Costa's a bit later for a last day of the holiday treat. Am going to have a small skinny latte at 2.5 syns then if they have them a couple of their mini muffins which are 3.5 each. Evenings are my weak spot syn wise so have melon, strawberries and Muller lights to get me through the evening syn free. Wii fit is showing a loss this week so I am hopeful for tomorrow's class.

dizzytrout · 01/09/2010 14:26

Thank you Wynken :)

I have a size 14 (pre-pregnancy size) wedding dress to get in to and I'm currently about a size 18-20, I bought it second hand, so I HAVE to get in to it as I have no other options!! I can't even get it past my knees yet.....

ditavonteesed · 01/09/2010 15:14

well I am sorry ladies I have stuffed my face with shit all day, biscuits and crisps, dc driving me proper barmy.
I think trick is to stop now and not think I have now failed. daren't write down what I have eaten, think prob 4 bags of crisps and 6 biscuits. Confused oh dear.

tartiflette · 01/09/2010 15:26

Hi girls can I join too? I've about 3 stone to lose after having my twins 15 weeks ago and stuffing myself with crap ever since...

Have done SW before and it was great but so difficult to get to classes now with two tinies so am going to kind of do my own version from home. Hopefully.

ElizabethWakefield · 01/09/2010 18:25

Nice to see our little group growning!Smile

Wynken, glad you are feeling more positive today, it must be hard to hear of all the other loses, but you are doing really well, every pound lost is a bonus Smile

Your costa treat sounds nice, hope you enjoyed it. The evenings are always my worst too, I just live alone with my DD so when she goes to bed I honestly think I just eat through boredom, I do have a DP who stays here 3 nights a week and I don't eat anywhere near as much when he is here, so it must be that?! I have been having fruit salads in the evening (made up earlier and kept in the fridge) so that there is something easy for me just to grab when I am hungry.

Dita, those dresses are fantastic, which one do you have your eye on? I know what you mean about the obsessive weighing, I can get like that too, I am going to try to do it only on weigh day (but not sure i will manage it) Grin

We all have bad days, so i would try not to worry too much about eating stuff earlier, and just think tomorrow is another day, it's easily done when the kids are playing up!

Dizzy, you have done so well so far, well done, having your wedding to long forward to and aim for will be good motivation. December is still a while away yet(despite all the christmas chat that seems to be on MN today!), I'm sure you will get into your dress.

Tartiflette, I imagine your life is pretty hectic at the moment with your twins, congratulations! Just think of this as your virtual class!

I've had such a sore head since last night, not sure if it is my body wondering what has happened to all the crap it usually gets or something else?! I'm going to try to drink a lot of water tonight to see if that helps. On the plus side I've not really felt much like eating today because of it, so that's been a bonus! Grin

ditavonteesed · 02/09/2010 07:38

can't even imagine being awake enough to wash with baby gtwins, never mind think about losing weight.

ew I can imagine what you mean about evenings do yiou have a wii or anything that you could do to stave the boredom (or take up smoking)(only joking).
The dress I like best is currently only in stock in a 24" waist so unlikely to be an option, will decide which one nearer the time when I have my measurements.
today is a new day, dd1 is up and dressed for school already and dd2 and I have lots to do so shouldn't be to hard.

shortandsweet2 · 02/09/2010 08:21

Hiya

Can I join? Been on and off diets for a bit. I have lost 3st but lost my mojo and have been up and down with the same couple of pounds for months! Will be starting a fresh tomorrow and hope I can get my diet mojo back :)

Dita I have one of those dress and are amazing on I love it but would like to lose some more weight to be comfortable in it.

tartiflette · 02/09/2010 08:26

Are we having a weigh in day every week?

I had three squares of dark chocolate last night and two glasses of wine...oh dear... but other than that a textbook day. Must get some quorn sausages as I seem to remember they were v useful last time I did SW.

How's everyone else doing?

NorthernLizInLondon · 02/09/2010 12:22

Hello all,

I would like to join in too please - I went to a SW meeting on Tuesday for the first time in 2 years.

I have 2 stone to lose after having a baby girl 8 weeks ago - she is lovely but I really, really want to get out of maternity jeans now!

Last time I did SW I lost a stone, so I know it definitely works, just need to keep it up, so the more moral support the better :-)

Hope you're all having good days so far - I'm still feeling reasonably motivated, but then it is only day 3!

Liz x

ElizabethWakefield · 02/09/2010 12:42

I do have a wii and i was thinking about getting a wii fit, but I am quite skint and coming up to a bad time of year (DD's birthday, a holiday and DP's birthday all in the space of 3 weeks!) I wonder if either of them would like a wii fit for their birthday?? Wink

I think i will buy some quorn too, I am also going to get some of the spray oil today, and there was something else i wanted to buy, but i forget now....will obviously remember once i get home from the shops!

I have been doing well today, brought a baked potato, small tin of tuna and some salad into work to have for lunch, but i have just cooked the potato and it was rotten in the middle Sad Am now just looking at my salad and feeling quite gutted! Grin

Congratulations on your little girl, northen liz, I love the motivated feeling in the early days, i just hope i can keep it up!

Congratulations to all the new Mum's, you put me to shame, my youngest is 7 next week and I'm pretty much bigger than ever.

Had my weigh in this morning, I lost 4lbs so now at 13lbs in total and am really delighted after my slow weeks. Apparently quorn is half price in Sainsbury at the moment. Someone recommended the frozen quorn meatballs with things like mushroom and sweetcorn added.

Found a great blog with loads of lovely recipes, can't do links, www.slimmingeats.com, well worth a look. I'm thinking of making the apple and sultana cake for DS's birthday so I can have cake to eat whilst he tucks into the chocolate cake he wants.

Surprise · 02/09/2010 15:18

Wow everyone seems to be losing, whether a little or a lot it doesn't matter, so long as you're losing! I too can get a bit obsessive about weighing myself, so I'm happy to weigh-in on a Monday night, as Elizabeth suggested. I've also bought the Hannah Waterman DVD as the pictures of the cover are so astonishing (google it and see for yourself!) It looks like hard work, but I'm really determined to do the workout twice a week until Christmas (when I hope to have lost at least a stone).

ditavonteesed · 02/09/2010 15:56

4lbs is so good, I have been back on track tioday, even managed playgroup without a bag of crisps or a biscuit at tea time.
I think a wii fit is a great present for your dd, my dd's are always playing on it and love it.
