So today is D day! Diet starts today, I have my first slimming world class tonight and i am feeling quite motivated. I think I probably have around 3 stones to lose, but i would be happy to even lose 2. I just feel fat and unhealthy and have never been this big before!

So today is day 1 of sorting myself out! Just wondered if anyone else was starting today too, not just slimming world, but any thing, and wanted to have somewhere to chat, swap ideas, or get some moral support?

Hi, can I join you too??

I'm back at Slimming World. I've done it before and lost nearly 2st but lost motivation after my wedding!!

So I joined again on Wednesday. I'm doing rubbish!!! We're ttc, and I'm really hormonal as af due and no lovely mirena hormones to help anymore. I want chocolate and wine!!!!!

ditavonteesed · 03/09/2010 10:30

options hot choclate and a wine spritzer?

NorthernLizInLondon · 03/09/2010 10:38

Oooh a stone by Christmas sounds like a great target Surprise, I'll join you on that one.. I caved a bit last night and had a (rather huge) glass of wine on top of a full list of other syns, the main problem for me I think is going to be that I am so knackered by the evening that I just want chocolate and/or wine.

But, I'm back on track and motivated again so far today... and intending to save syns for another glass or wine or two tonight :)

Hope you're all having good days!

ditavonteesed · 03/09/2010 17:59

very very proud of self today, feeling a bit down in the dumps but not comfort atre. just had a lovely plate of cous cous for tea while the dc ate chip shop chips, and when they left half of them I binned the rest. I deserve to be at least half a stone lighter for that will power. Grin

ElizabethWakefield · 03/09/2010 19:58

Welcome Harrassed (good name! Grin)

Wow, that is great will power Dita, I am very impressed.

I have had quite a good day today, although I am a bit concerned about the weekend, as I feel my days are quite structured, with work and having set times to eat, whereas at the weekend it's not really like that.

Have used 6 syns today, so I might try to figure out what amazingly tasty thing I can have for 4 syns later (presuming nothing Grin)

Hope everyone else is having a good day.

Off to look at the website wynken has recommended!

I just had a chicken kebab (7.5 syns for pitta and I hope the rest is free), it was so yummy, it felt like I was being really naughty, but i don' think I was?!

Been to ver sweaty and difficult excersise class too, so feeling good today :)

I always want to save some syns but end up having all 15 by the end of every day, I could murder a bar of dairy milk crunchie :o

ditavonteesed · 04/09/2010 07:55

if i remember rightly can't you get a double vodka and diet coke for 4 syns? Grin
dizzy kebab sounds lovely. Smile
I am hoping I can get all my food talk out of the way on here as dh hates it.
do either of you have the reciepe for sw carbonara? dh loves it and said when I said I was dieting that he would look forward to having that again, I can't find it anywhere.

ElizabethWakefield · 04/09/2010 10:57

Yum, chicken kebab, sounds lovely!

I've looked up the slimming world website and found this carbonara recipe, hopefully this is the one you mean

4 rashers bacon, all visible fat removed
3 eggs
Salt and freshly ground black pepper
3 tbsp very low fat natural fromage frais
2 level tbsp grated Parmesan cheese
Small bunch of chives
397g/14oz cooked spaghetti

  1. Roughly chop the bacon and dry fry in a non-stick pan for 2-3 minutes. Set aside
  1. Lightly beat the eggs, season to taste and add the fromage frais and 1 tbsp of Parmesan. Chop the chives and add to the mixture, reserving some for garnish.
  1. Add the spaghetti and egg mixture to the bacon in the pan and stir gently over a low heat until the egg starts to set.
  1. Serve sprinkled with the remaining Parmesan and chives

Serves: 4
Syns per serving:
1½ Syn on Original (add 6 Syns if not using wholemeal spaghetti as a Healthy Extra),
3 Syns on Green and 1½ Syns on Extra Easy

I might actually have that for dinner tomorrow, it sounds good.

It's a lovely day today, so going to go out for a walk to a local park with my mum and DD, hopefully burn off some fat. Then taking DD 10 pin bowling tonight with DP so will try not to eat anything too bad! Grin

you will save yourself a fortnne not eating at the bowling alley, think of it that way Grin

WynkenBlynkenandNod · 05/09/2010 09:53

Chicken kebab sounds lovely and carbonara recipe is lovely, I made it without the parmasan last week. Sounds like we're all doing a bit more exercise. There's a very steep hill on the way home from DS's school. Usually I find it harder after just a week's holiday but was pleasantly surprised when I did it on Thursday after 6 weeks break and found it wasn't too bad at all.

Went to a BBQ the other night and strangely found that it fitted a green day with the cous cous and pasta salad.

Yesterday was one of those hungry days so I made rice pudding for the evening. Boiled some pudding rice for 10 mins. Stuck it in a bowl with some vanilla mullerlight and sweetener then cooked in the oven for 10-15 mins on 180 degrees. Could have maybe done with some nutmeg and was a bit yoghurty but not too bad. A bit of that and a wedge of melon did the trick nicely.

Fimbles5 · 05/09/2010 12:09

Hi everyone.
Hope you don't mind me gatecrashing. I have decided to give SW a go too and have been following it since last Wednesday. I notice someone said she is limiting herself to 10syns a day. I have been having 15 as I thought this was what is recommended. Am it eating too much?? Could someone please advise me on how many syns I should have. I am 5ft 3ins and have 1.5stones to lose :(

JustGettingByMum · 05/09/2010 12:19

Hi, please can I join in? I started SW on Weds and was shocked at my weight - sat in the corner feeling very sorry for myself Blush.
Fortunately, a lovely lady I know was there and she came and sat with me!

I am hoping to lose 20 lbs by xmas - then more later.

ElizabethWakefield · 05/09/2010 12:22

Morning everyone (well afternoon I suppose Grin)

Hi Fimbles, I was told at my class on Monday that for women it was 10 syns a day (or 70 split over the week, however you wanted to do it)

I am going to give the carbonara a go today, I think it sounds lovely. i also really like the sound of your rice pudding Wynken, I was desperately craving something sweet last night and I think that would have been ideal.

I am writting out a shopping list and trying to plan meals for the week, then going to go to tesco later.

Fimbles5 · 05/09/2010 12:36

Oh dear :( Now i'm feeling like i've fallen off the wagon already. Will cut my syns down to 10 tomorrow and hope I haven't messed up so far by allowing 15 a day. I thought I was doing so well!!

ElizabethWakefield · 05/09/2010 12:47

I have just checked the book Fimbles and it says 2enjoy 5 to 15 syns a day, your consultant will help you to decide the number of syns to aim for each day" So I am sure that 15 will be totally fine, I really wouldn't worry at all. I bet you will be fine. Maybe ask your class leader what she thinks?

Justgettingbymum, I understand how you feel, I was shocked by my weight too, although my increasing dress size should have been a hint Blush I felt quite depressed last week, but now I feel I am on the right road to doing something about my weight I don't feel as bad! I know it will take a while to get to a weight i am happy with, but at least i know I am now doing the right thing, and will hopefully lose weight, no matter how slowly, rather than continue to put on Smile

OP posts:
WynkenBlynkenandNod · 05/09/2010 12:50

Hi Fimbles and Justgettingby. Fimbles, it was me who said about limiting myself to 10 syn, I wanted to boost my loss a bit as I was losing very slowly so wanted to try lowering them slightly for a bit.. Up to 15 is absolutely fine, SW say 5-15. I think some consultants say stick to 10 as they assume people are a bit slack about weighing A&B choices and suffer from slimmer's amnesia, therefore by aiming for 10 a day it covers the extra bits we don't realise taking it up to about 15. You absolutely haven't failed and if it makes you feel any better I am going to have 16 syns today.

Fimbles5 · 05/09/2010 13:29

Thanku for making me feel better :) I will however cut my syns to 10 as of tomorrow especially if that means I will lose quicker. So far, I haven't found the whole SW thing too bad, but am beginning to tire of salad for lunch. May seek out a book for lunch inspiration.

ElizabethWakefield · 05/09/2010 14:03

I have also been thinking that I will need to look into varying me meals a bit more.

For lunches I am going to try to vary between salad (with either tuna or chicken) baked potato and homemade soup.

I also think I am in danger of falling into a tomato based rut! As a few of my dinners this week were tomato based, so I will try to vary that too.

Have you seen this month's magazine , there are some lovely recipes. Extra Easy does make life easier. For tea I'm doing roast chicken, dry roast potatoes, syn free onion gravy then lots of super free veg. Pudding is a Gu chocolate and vanilla cheesecake as the treat I've been waiting for since Costa didn't have any flipping mini muffins.

If you like curry, Asda do a syn free Chickpea dahl. Friends were down a couple of weeks ago so we had this, chicken Jalfrezi (3.5 syns per quarter of recipe using Waitrose perfectly balanced jalfrezi sauce), aunbergine madras ( a WW recipe that is one syn per quarter) and made salsa with onion, toms, cucumber, lime and coriander, plus finally some boiled rice. Absolutely gorgeous curry feast for 4, 4.5 syns for the whole lot.

ditavonteesed · 05/09/2010 17:08

curry feast sounds good.
I have ab it more motivation now, have just organised a night out with my mate, is in 2 weeks so not much time to reach complete fabulous ness.

justwhen · 05/09/2010 18:50

Hi every-one would you mind if I joined you? I started SW at the start of the school hols & unfortunately have been doing v.badly. After 6 weeks I'm back to my starting weight Sad.
My 3 dd's are back at school tomorrow so am really going to make it work this time. I don't seem to have been able to make it through the day without opening the wine in the evenings (all 3 dd's v.full on).
I've been getting v.depressed about my lack of willpower & it'd be great to chat to you all & to share your experiences. Well done for all your weight losses so far.

ditavonteesed · 06/09/2010 07:43

just when, the school hols is never the right time to lose weight, I have been on the beer every night, I swore I wouldn't but the minute dh walks in the door I grab one.
Now I come with a heavy heart this morning for weigh in day.
Starting weight 13st 2lbs,
weight yesterday 12st 12lbs yay
weight this moprning 13st 1lbs
I have no idea how that is even possible, It has taken me over a week to lose 4lbs and one night to put 3 back on Sad and I wasn't naughty yesterday and I did loads of excercise.

ElizabethWakefield · 06/09/2010 12:52

Dita, I think the time of day can make a differnce to your weight, what time of day did you do your starting weight at?

Even so 1 off is good! Every loss counts! You have done well this week!

Justwhen, I agree that the school holidays are not the best time to start, i am sure once you get back into a routine it will become much easier.

Wynken, your curry feast sounds fantastic! I am going to look out for the chickpea dahl, sounds good! How many syns are in the Gu cheesecakes?

I have my class tonight so I will report back later with any loss (and hopefully no gains). My friend at work was off sick all last week and she came back this morning and said i looked like i had lost weight, I think she was just trying to be nice, but i felt really pleased Grin

I made the carbonara last night and it was lovely! Highly recommend it. I was also having a look through some recipes last night and seen that you can make a slimming world version of ferrero rocher for 1 syn each, by mixing up scan bran, nutella and syrup. I love ferreros, so i might give it a go.

Our class leader is bringing along scan bran for us to try tonight, then will have some avaliable if we want to buy it, apparently if you eat it, is does something to your metobolism and speeds up weight loss, I am thinking about bying some even if i don't like it!!! Has anyone tried it?

Also does anyone know where you can buy Quark? DD loves chicken kievs and I was going to make the slimming world recipe ones for us, but I can't buy quark anywhere, although i have seen it mentioned in a few recipes?!

OP posts:
justwhen · 06/09/2010 13:12

I know crazy isn't it how the scales can give such misleading answers. Are you due on?

ditavonteesed · 06/09/2010 15:53

don't try scan bran it is the devils food.
am not due on weighed myself at the same time, wearing the same clothes, just don't get it, hoping it is a blip and will be gone again in the morning.
I never managed to find quark.
