So today is D day! Diet starts today, I have my first slimming world class tonight and i am feeling quite motivated. I think I probably have around 3 stones to lose, but i would be happy to even lose 2. I just feel fat and unhealthy and have never been this big before!

So today is day 1 of sorting myself out! Just wondered if anyone else was starting today too, not just slimming world, but any thing, and wanted to have somewhere to chat, swap ideas, or get some moral support?

Fromage frais sounds like a good idea for lasagne sauce. 5 syns a day has been OK, but I'm going for an average as things get in the way slightly like the curry in Sainsbury not being there and ending up with a higher syn one. I didn't have any last night to compensate for it but couldn't actually fit any more food in anyway as had cooked breakfast saving most of my milk and my B choice so had 2 choc and fudge Alpen lights with my home made version of a Latte for last night.

I know you're supposed to have at least 5 syns a day but hopefully it is fine. Wouldn't want to do a low syn week very often but it is OK for a few more days. 3lbs gets me 2 stone and 10% so would be great if I could pull it off.

Have just propointed the offending Sainsbury Veg curry mentioned above and it is 12 flipping propoints. 2 weetabix and 350ml skim milk works out at 6 pp. I am thinking that it does all seem quite a lot of hassle compared to SW really but would like to try just once and see the reality of it.

WynkenBlynkenandNod · 08/11/2010 13:19

Like the sound of the cheese layer lasagne Melty, sounds lovely.

Lizzylou · 08/11/2010 13:31

Lulu, I'm making a beef and mushroom cannelloni from SW magazine tonight, they use a tub of quark, tub of fatfree cottage cheese with onion and chives, 2 large egg yolks and 2oz cheddar as the topping.

I do need a cheese fix, am looking forward to it.

Lulumaam · 08/11/2010 14:09

lizzy & melty, both those recipes sound good !

bought some ready grated parmesan to make it easier to measure out for synning

just having some soup now, it's so cold, this is my face Sad just ordered some new jeans.
not as small a size as i had hoped, but i find jeans hard to get , but ordered one skinny and one bootcut . my uggs should be in next week too ! woooooooooo

Lulumaam · 08/11/2010 17:47

off to WI in about an hour. DH has taken DCs to Nandos, i had lasagne

extra lean mince in frylight, with shallots and tomatoes, drained the mince too. a splash of red wine and 1 tbspn of beef gravy granules as no stock cubes, so will have to syn that and the wine

then mixed fat free froamge frais and creme fraiche and used that with 2 tspns of parmesan whihc sould be ok as HE A as only had 1 laughing cow light today, so i reckon that will be fine

it was delish. really good

Keziahhopes · 08/11/2010 18:22

Am liking the ideas for lasagna - missing cheesy things like that so much!

Made vegetable casserole, syn free for tonight - butternut squash, green beans, onions, mushrooms, swede, cannelini beans, leek, pepper, paprika and other spices (instead of packet mix with syns) and it smells lovely ... with potatoes and possible some meat/fish so it last for 2 nights!

Lulumaam · 08/11/2010 18:29

it was not really v cheesy, but creamy enough that it was like eating regular lasagne, you could add more cheese, like mozarella etc with HEx a or syns, but it was a lovely dinner !

Lulumaam · 08/11/2010 20:18

1lb off .. so almost back to where i was 2 weeks ago... bit disappointed as really upped my superfree and kept fairly low syn,but did eat out twice.. , so will keep on going and a 1lb a week will soon add up.. after a big weight loss so qucijly , i think i need to adjust my expectations

ElizabethWakefield · 08/11/2010 20:58

Evening everyone, so much to catch up on this thread, there are so many people on it now, and think we'll need a new one soon.

I was 2 off tonight, which means i have finally reached the 1 stone mark! It has been such a long time coming!! Grin So i am celebrating with a bag of maltesers Smile

Thanks for the words of encouragement, i think my loss has been more to do with the extra running about i have been doing rather than food choices, but I done a big healthy shop yesterday, so hopefully I can be more focused this week!

Candy, really sorry to hear the news about your mum, I hope you are ok Sad

Melty, SB sounds like an arse, good on you for being strong, you are much better off without him Smile

Everyone else, well done with the losses!

I am off to plan some healthy meals for this week, to try and get myself back on the straight and narrow!! Have stocked up on Quorn mince, it is currently £1 in Morrisons, and I do quite like it (will possibly sicken myself of it soon Grin

welcome back elizabeth.. hope things are settling a bit for you

I found this slightly odd but nice recipe on a SW blog

basically you make a sauce for chicken or beef or pork with the following

a can of diet coke

passata

onion

worcester or soy sauce

it was actually v nice, kind of BBQy

you sweat off a chopped onion in frylight, then add passate - i used about 600g , and heat gently, then a tin of diet coke and reduce it down, you can add soy/worcester to make it a bit tangier

i added some salt and a bit of red chilli too

it was really good

ElizabethWakefield · 08/11/2010 21:18

Thanks Lulu Smile Things are much the same, thanks, but I feel more in a routine again!

That sounds like an unusual sauce! Although I might just give it a try out of curiosity! Did you cook the meat in the sauce? or just pour it over?

OP posts:
Lulumaam · 08/11/2010 21:21

well, i hope things continue to improve .....

i made the sauce seperately and let it reduce a bit and cooked off the chicken pieces and then poured it over and let it bubble away and reduce more

DontCallMeBaby · 08/11/2010 22:59

I can kind of imagine that being nice - I'm rather fond of Nigella's ham in Coke - but I don't do Diet Coke for anyone. :)

I keep think I'm not doing very well, food-wise, but then I think about what I've been eating, and it's not a huge amount. Maybe not weightloss amounts, but not weightgain amounts ... I think I've just got used to undereating, or at least not overeating.

Next few days will be a different matter though ... away with work. Hmm

findingtheRialme · 08/11/2010 23:36

have never tried that Nigella recipe. It seems odd to mess with ham! (I did get her books out the other week, as need to have friends round for a "return dinner", it turned out to be a doubly costly exercise - £s and lbs!)

am getting enthused for WW (the old way), the only thing (!) I find difficult is pointing the cooking from scratch after EE, but it sure won't do me any harm to control portion sizes. The magazine has an interview with James Martin (YUM!Blush!)

well done on the lossesSmile

Lizzylou · 09/11/2010 07:12

Well done Elizabeth and Lulu Smile

Don'tcallme, I wasn't eating very much before I started SW, so it seems odd to feel full now iyswim.

I made that beef and mushroom cannelloni last night, DH was unsure about the topping, I liked it. It made masses, I halved the recipe as was just for me and DH and despite him eating like a horse, there was loads, was stuffed.

Have steak for lunch (having with salad) and a prawn jacket potato for dinner, boys will have another filling). My new fave is prawns is 0% total yoghurt with snipped chives in, tastes so "naughty" and is free.

ditavonteesed · 09/11/2010 07:54

WI tonight plus launch meeting for propoints. hoping to have a loss as been at the same for about 3 weeks now, have been so good this week been under my point allowance every day, although haven't gone back to the shred as my leg is hurting and I don't want to make it worse, been out lots with the dog though.
Tip from a very skinny friend which seems to work quite well at both making you eat less and move more, The second you finish eating go and do something completly unrelated, hoover the stairs or hang the washing out (not only is she very skinny but her house is spotless). Also she said to me yesterday that when she really wants something like chocolate she just pretends to herself that she has had it as there is no difference, tried this last night withg the buttery white toast that I was obbsessing over and it worked.

ElizabethWakefield · 09/11/2010 09:57

I like the idea of pretending you have eaten something you haven't, although i fear my imagination is not that good! Grin

OP posts:
whatkungfuthat · 09/11/2010 11:06

You could get people to give you chocolate wrappers just to help you convince yourself that you ate it Smile

I read somewhere recently that people who fidget use and extra 300 cals a day Hmm

I feel awful today as DS2 said he was feeling poorly and he did sound a bit croaky but I dosed him up with calpol and sent him to school as it would have been his third lot of sickness in a month and the school were a bit arsey last time. Just waiting for the phone call...

Lulumaam · 09/11/2010 12:12

i hope he's ok kungfu.. mine were ill constantly it felt last winter.. every other week one of them was at home.

I am so hoping for a bigger loss next week.. 1 lb is still a loss., but i'd tried sooo hard.. maybe i have plateaued a bit.

still going for tonnes of super free an d free this week , going to have soup at least once a day

whatkungfuthat · 09/11/2010 12:48

Thanks Lulu, I really had to fight to get him into this school so don't want any hassle now! No phone call as yet so hopefully its just (yet another) cold.

I've done a couple of green days recently and DP has done a couple of red and we both seem to lose on them but put it back on when we go back to EE Hmm

WynkenBlynkenandNod · 09/11/2010 17:00

What a fab idea to imagine food, I have been having fantasies about white bread !

Am messing around with this online WW thingy. Yesterday worked out fine and I had one of my week points, so was pretty much on my daily points. Today has been hectic, I've had 2 weetabix and melon, 3 egg mushroom and tomato omlette and am having smoked salmon with new pots and beans tonight. Syns for the day will be hot choc @2 syns and Cadbury's light choc mousse @3 syns and 150g raw weight McCain Rustic oven chips @1.5syns as am slightly under my 5 a day average. That's fine for SW but actually works out that I have 7 Propoints remaining, not a problem I was expecting to have.

ditavonteesed · 09/11/2010 17:05

wynken sounds good, I am looking forward to meeting, except when I weighed my self this morning I had lost 2lbs but my best mate was off work today and took me and dd2 out for lunch, I had quiche, chips, and salad. now worrying that I am not goint to have lost anything as I normally don't eat much on weigh in day, still well within my points but normally save my big meal for after class.
Had a bit of car trouble so been running about like a nutter all day, was scraping on speed bumps, looked under and it looked like the bottom of the car had actually fallen down, took it to kwikfit, got it on the ramp and it was just some casing that needed fastening back up, they didn't even charge me for it, friend said the relief on my face was really funny, I had written the car off in my head and was trying to work out how I would afford a new one.

WynkenBlynkenandNod · 09/11/2010 17:19

The stress of the car might have had you burning up calories faster and counteract your quiche maybe ?! Good luck, fingers crossed for you.

I've just had add some berries and yoghurt plus a mullerlight to my menu to get it closer to my daily points. Interesting comparison, before pp I'd be right up there if I did a SW v WW comparison but the free fruits have made a difference. Also, I get 35 points now instead of 24 and although some things have gone up a lot, things like the low cal hot chocolate seem to have stayed at 1 point and the Cadbury light choc mousse has only gone up 1/2 a point. Will be very interesting to see what happens when I do my week on Thursday as at the moment I am doing SW really and just pointing it to see what happens iyswim.

whatkungfuthat · 09/11/2010 18:29

Wynken do you need to eat something 'free' with meals on PP like you do superfree on SW? I really struggle with that sometimes.

I've been imagining a chicken passanda, mushroom rice and a peshwari naan for months, but don't feel like I've had it! Grin

WynkenBlynkenandNod · 09/11/2010 19:28

Not that I'm aware Kungfu. Fruit and veg free but can't see anything where it says you have to have a certain amount with each meal. Did just look up under Indian Restaurant for you but can't point those for you as they aren't on the tracker. Maybe they will be in the Eating out guide and Dita is buying it at this very second

Where is Lizzylou ? I have just found her thread on potato arses in S&B and am going to have to go and ask DH to inspect mine, it's all her fault !
