Hello everyone, I'm due to start on MJ in the next few days, and I'm feeling nervous!

I've been above size 20 since I was about 14/15 years old. The highest weight I've ever logged was 134kg, about 14 years ago. I'm currently 117kg. I also have issues with my heart caused by Cushing's, type 2 diabetes and PMOS.

In the past few years, I'm yo-yo'd between 125kg and 110kg three times. I know how to lose weight and can do it... but as soon as work gets busy or stressful, I fail and give up. I also have an issue with binge and secret eating.

I went for my annual diabetic review yesterday and the nurse basically used the whole time telling me about going on MJ, because my BMI is over 40 (well, as of yesterday's weigh in, I'm 39. something) and because of my other health conditions. I didn't have to fight for it, or request it.. they're just giving it to me.

Now I'm doing as much reading/ video watching as I can to clue myself up.

On my on-track days, I eat:

Breakfast: 2 scrambled eggs with some flavouring- chilli flakes or marmite or 15g cheddar.

Lunch: Chicken thigh fillet in some kind of seasoning mix, salad made of lettuce, pepper, tomatoes, cucumber, sugarsnaps, carrot. Sometimes 3 cream crackers and a laughing cow triangle as well.

Dinner: Varies- roast chicken dinner/ 5% fat mince spaghetti bolognese with wholewheat pasta/ beef burger without the bun with cheese, salad on half the plate, usually without chips, noodles with chicken and stirfry veg.

Snacks: Usually a portion of berries/ a nectarine/ cherries/ 25g peanuts at 4pm.

How does that sound?

I have a treadmill and run/walk at 6.5/6km/hr pace for 30 mins three times a week. The nurse said I should do some weights for my arms too.

Any recommendations for which day I should inject?

I can’t eat fatty and over processed foods like bacon when I’ve recently jabbed as they usually make me feel really unwell/vomiting, so I hope you’re ok?

I’ve been fine so far, I had bacon last week probably the morning after the jab actually. Funny how different things impact different people isn’t it x

@RaspberryRoad 9lbs is bloody amazing! What a fabulous start, well done!

I’m working in pounds so I’ve just had to convert it but i’ve lost 9lb which is 4 kg! X

That's a huge loss! You must be very pleased with that! Congratulations! What did you eat during the week - generally, not a day by day breakdown!

Despite waking up hungry, I definitely feel like my appetite has calmed down throughout the day, just forced some scrambled egg mixed with cottage cheese and a couple of slices of wafer thin chicken.

so can definitely feel that now. Food noise is still rampant though as feel like all I can think about is how much protein to eat!!!

Hi all - thanks for the welcome. 24 hours since first jab and all ok - no real difference except I could not sleep last night! No idea whether that is a side effect or just me. Look forward to seeing how we all get on.

I found I struggled to sleep for 2 nights after my first jab but slept amazingly last night so fingers crossed for you

ReneBallard · Yesterday 14:29

@RaspberryRoad bloody hell! Well done!

RaspberryRoad · Yesterday 14:41

@PrimalScreaming
Im quite a basic kinda gal! So I don’t think you’ll find it inspiring.
So it’s been things like scrambled egg, bacon and avocado for breakfast, chicken salad for lunch and then say pork loin steak with a bit of rice and veg for tea. A protein yogurt and grapes for snack. And loads to drink! X

chocolatecoveredpretzels · Yesterday 15:11

Wowwwww @RaspberryRoad you must be feeling so chuffed!

I’ve just had another text from my chemist to say my prescription is ready. It must be my pen! I’m going to collect tomorrow.

How do you all work out when to jab? I’m thinking Friday night at the moment, but Mr Pretzels likes a Friday night takeaway, usually Chinese. I’ve been having a couple of chicken satay skewers (sauce mostly left in the container) and about 250g rice recently, which has satisfied the craving without overloading calories. Would that be too heavy to eat at 7.30pm before jabbing that evening?

Would Saturday morning be better? I want to avoid my previous weekend snacking and binges.

@chocolatecoveredpretzels we had caci a Pepe (so very black pepper heavy)and a nuii ice cream Fri night before I jabbed and it was fine. I honestly think a lot of it appears to depend on the individual. Some people tolerate it well and others less so.

im jabbing Friday night at the moment but I need to change this to Mondays by end Sept as I have 3 weekends away (either Thurs - sun or Fri-sun) between September and Christmas and flying from the CI so don’t want to be taking pens/needles (and particularly not when with friends as not telling them am on the jabs).

RaspberryRoad · Yesterday 15:40

@chocolatecoveredpretzels personally I’d be jabbing as soon as I had the pen in my hand! Sod the Chinese and embrace the weight loss x

BeverleyMakka · Yesterday 15:47

@RaspberryRoad well done on your progress! 🎉
Im still feeling crap, craving chocolate, crisps and all the fatty stuff.
i don’t want to sound all ‘woe is me’ but I’m long term single, kids are grown up and friends all live the other end of the country so food has very much become my pleasure, thus I feel like I’ve lost a major part of my happiness. I know that’s not healthy and I had to address the issue so was really hoping the MJ would take away the food longing.
I just keep telling myself it’s early days and to give it a couple of weeks to build up…

chocolatecoveredpretzels · Yesterday 15:48

@ReneBallard that's really good to know, thank you! How do you change days? Do you do your last Friday jab, then go without past the next one, until the Monday?

@RaspberryRoad I am so tempted to just go for it! I’m feeling pretty good anyway, because I’ve now lost 6kg in the past two weeks without extra medication. I guess that’s mostly water though? But knowing the pen is waiting for me is so exciting!

chocolatecoveredpretzels · Yesterday 15:49

@BeverleyMakka we’re here for you! What are you actually eating? Is it good, tasty food that you look forward to?

OP posts:
ReneBallard · Yesterday 15:56

@chocolatecoveredpretzels acvording to Google yes or you can do it gradually so do Friday one week then following Saturday the next and so on by week until you get to the day you want. Google does say you might have increased food noise due the delay but we are going for a fancy dinner end sept so I def want to be able to eat then. I have my next GP appt on 26 August so I am going to double check with him then

WombatCowgirl · Yesterday 16:13

I'm jabbing on Saturday precisely so I can have a glass of wine and some pasta on Friday night! Most temptation for me is around the weekend so I'll get maximum suppression then. @BeverleyMakka I can relate and feel sympathy, I'm single and love cooking more adult dishes when my children are with their father every other weekend. I've thrown money at it and been on the Italian cookshop to buy olive oil, lovely coffee, amaretti biscuits as treats - plus dates and dark chocolate for emergencies - to make the new Mediterranean diet feel like a luxury. Could you do similar?

I don’t know if you’re allowed or if anyone would be up for it but if anyone wanted a breakaway WhatsApp group I’d happily set up if people felt they wanted to privately send me their numbers but I fully understand people might not want to. I just don’t find this site as user friendly.x

Ugh - morning here and another terrible sleep. I have some hot chocolate with magnesium here - will try that before bed tonight. It is quite rich so I didn’t try yesterday.

Mamafromthebeach · Yesterday 21:52

@RaspberryRoad amazing results 🎉. Well done on progress.

Great to see a few new members too.

@chocolatecoveredpretzels great loss so far without the jab! I wouldn’t overthink the day. I do mine Sunday morning. I find it easier to do on a day when I am not rushing off to work. I figured it would also mean if I am away on the weekend I can just do it in the evening when I am back. However, don’t over think it - you can mount a case for any day I reckon!
