Hello everyone, I'm due to start on MJ in the next few days, and I'm feeling nervous!

I've been above size 20 since I was about 14/15 years old. The highest weight I've ever logged was 134kg, about 14 years ago. I'm currently 117kg. I also have issues with my heart caused by Cushing's, type 2 diabetes and PMOS.

In the past few years, I'm yo-yo'd between 125kg and 110kg three times. I know how to lose weight and can do it... but as soon as work gets busy or stressful, I fail and give up. I also have an issue with binge and secret eating.

I went for my annual diabetic review yesterday and the nurse basically used the whole time telling me about going on MJ, because my BMI is over 40 (well, as of yesterday's weigh in, I'm 39. something) and because of my other health conditions. I didn't have to fight for it, or request it.. they're just giving it to me.

Now I'm doing as much reading/ video watching as I can to clue myself up.

On my on-track days, I eat:

Breakfast: 2 scrambled eggs with some flavouring- chilli flakes or marmite or 15g cheddar.

Lunch: Chicken thigh fillet in some kind of seasoning mix, salad made of lettuce, pepper, tomatoes, cucumber, sugarsnaps, carrot. Sometimes 3 cream crackers and a laughing cow triangle as well.

Dinner: Varies- roast chicken dinner/ 5% fat mince spaghetti bolognese with wholewheat pasta/ beef burger without the bun with cheese, salad on half the plate, usually without chips, noodles with chicken and stirfry veg.

Snacks: Usually a portion of berries/ a nectarine/ cherries/ 25g peanuts at 4pm.

How does that sound?

I have a treadmill and run/walk at 6.5/6km/hr pace for 30 mins three times a week. The nurse said I should do some weights for my arms too.

Any recommendations for which day I should inject?

1st jab done! I've stocked up on prunes, figs, crackers, cottage cheese, meats, yogurt and various other fruits. 1l of water down so far today, along with a couple of coffees. So let's see how this goes!

Jab was so easy, the needle is tiny! (Wegovy) We had IVF to conceive our daughter and I'm pretty sure the needless for that were bigger, so I'm a pro 😂

I'll let you know how I feel tomorrow 😌

ReneBallard · 05/08/2026 16:57

@CatMonj I also jabbed Friday and weighed today (albeit mid afternoon with light clothes on rather than first thing) and have likewise only lost 1lb. I too am eating loads less, drinking more water but not yet exercising (will do this next week).

everything I’ve read suggests that a lot depends on how much you have to lose, how your body reacts to the medication and so on. Also that 2.5 is supposed to get your body used to the meds and more will come off as you move up. Try not to be disheartened, what matters is what you lose over 4-8 weeks as there will be some big loss weeks and some smaller, same as if we were doing “traditional” method starving ourselves and exercising excessively

Welcome on board to everyone that’s new here we’ve got this!
It is my official way day tomorrow! X

Mamafromthebeach · 05/08/2026 21:53

Sleep improving thank you @WombatCowgirl .. will keep going with the magnesium before bed and hope it continues to get better.
@Biosblbay glad you found your way here. We are all new to this so great we can support each other.

Day 5 here - I felt a bit snacky today and grabbed a few squares of chocolate - it tasted weird. Not satisfying at all and oddly too sweet. So strange.

Otherwise been doing well - eating fairly normally, and lots of water. Not sure what the scales will say this week - will find out in a couple of days.

PrimalScreaming · 05/08/2026 22:47

I am like you @Mamafromthebeach - felt a bit snacky today and my next jab is Friday (will also weigh then too). I don't mind too much though as I couldn't eat much at all the first couple of days - it was a struggle with absolutely no appetite and while perhaps good for weight loss, I still want to enjoy the foods I can eat! I have also found that I can't stomach my coffee anywhere near as sweet as usual either, which is really strange as my first sweet coffee of the morning is usually sacred!

I made your teriyaki beef tonight @chocolatecoveredpretzels as I had all the ingredients already and it was really tasty. I had it with a small portion of wholegrain rice. Usually I would have white rice, but it was better than I expected!

I am now trying to appease my snackiness by eating a handful of frozen grapes (not sure if I saw that on this thread or somewhere else, but the cold sweetness really works to satisfy that wanting something more ice cream/dessert like) and a couple of squares of very dark chocolate!

RaspberryRoad · 06/08/2026 08:29

Will catch up with all the missed messages in a second but I’ve had my first week weigh in and I’m excited to report.
I have lost 11.8lb!

WombatCowgirl · 06/08/2026 08:39

OMG 😱 @RaspberryRoad well done what a boost!!! Can you see it in your face or your clothes?

Mamafromthebeach · 06/08/2026 09:08

Wow @RaspberryRoad what an amazing start for you!! That must give you great motivation to march forward!

Biosblbay · 06/08/2026 09:11

@PrimalScreaming glad you have said this about appetite! Was just coming on here to find out about no appetite in the first few days, I jabbed Tuesday evening for the first time and I am struggling to eat anything! Already 3 Ilbs down but I think that’s due to not eating much at all! It’s almost like being pregnant in the first trimester. Nausea and no appetite! I’ve just forced a banana down my neck and it was not enjoyable!

purplepie1 · 06/08/2026 09:18

@RaspberryRoadwell done, that’s an amazing loss for your first week.

purplepie1 · 06/08/2026 09:20

any tips for constipation? I am struggling with this. I already drink a lot of water and try to eat a good variety of berries and vegetables each day. I also add chia seeds to my yogurt.

I am sure this is also contributing to my lack of sleep.

RaspberryRoad · 06/08/2026 11:31

Thanks everyone. No, can’t see a difference anywhere! But hopefully that will come soon. I do have about five stone to lose, so that’s maybe a contributing factor. X

Biosblbay · 06/08/2026 11:33

@purplepie1 model lily tea, or get a tea that has senna in it. It does cause some tummy discomfort but it works! Model lily is expensive and sometimes not in stock, but works the best! Make sure you drink it before bed and best doing it when you have no plans the following morning!

chocolatecoveredpretzels · 06/08/2026 12:36

Omg, @RaspberryRoad that is incredible! You should feel so proud of yourself!

I’ve bought one of those body measuring tape things so I can measure as well as weigh. I’m hoping it will help on the weeks the scales don’t move much.

Still haven’t heard from the doctor about the needles and it’s making me feel so frustrated! I’m going to call them this afternoon to chase up what’s going on.

Thanks @Biosblbayi have never heard of it but will google it tonight.

Anseranser · 06/08/2026 13:26

Wow @RaspberryRoad that's amazing! What a great start 🎉

Ladidahdi · 06/08/2026 19:03

Had chilli con carne for me tea tonight, on a small jacket. Had to eat between waking from a sleep and going for my night shift so I ate quite quickly, didn’t give myself chance to realise how full I was and now I’m really bloated. Hopefully being up and about all night will help settle it down but right now I’m feeling very 🤢

WombatCowgirl · 06/08/2026 19:07

I've had a stupid days eating today: we had a day out and I wasn't hungry for the picnic lunch so just had a banana, later I had a 400 calories farm ice cream, I'm such an idiot. Late coming back so we haven't even started cooking yet and I'm properly hungry for the first time in almost a week, eyeing the wine and bread sticks
I don't know if it's my poor choices today or the effect wearing off :( I jabbed on Saturday morning. Has anyone else felt hungry at all?

ReneBallard · 06/08/2026 19:20

Caved and had a G&T tonight. Last alcoholic drink was a week ago and given I jab Friday evening I figured that tonight would give least issues. Felt pretty rubbish halfway through it but drunk some water and ok now.

ordinarily I’d have been ravenous once I had a drink but I’m not. I’m not really struggling to eat my main meals but husband is making me much smaller portions anyway and I’m not snacking so wondering if that’s why.

jab tomorrow evening, first weigh Saturday am. Not expecting to lose loads after only a week - have about 2-2.5 stone to lose overall - but at least a couple of lbs would be nice.

Have not yet added in exercise but intend to next week and hoping that might nudge the scales a bit more.

not looking forward to jabbing agsin tomorrow as hate needles!!

today is my hungriest and I really have to avoid the temptation of the sweets and cake in the kitchen. I’m due to jab tomorrow for the second time. Again I’m nervous but really want control over the food noise.

WombatCowgirl · 06/08/2026 21:46

@purplepie1 maybe we're in the same boat in that case! I'll try to keep busy tomorrow til my jab is due!

PrimalScreaming · 06/08/2026 23:28

Another one here who has been hungrier today than any so far this week and also jabbing tomorrow. I have a feeling that may be the weekly cycle, but hopefully as it builds up in our systems then it should cover the last few days of the week as well.

I'm not looking forward to it tomorrow because I felt SO fatigued over the weekend after the first one and really hoping not to have a repeat of that!

MadameMacaron · 07/08/2026 00:21

@RaspberryRoad that’s a brilliant loss for your first week!

I got to Day 6 on Weds and thoughts of food started surfacing again. Managed to avoid my usual unhealthy snacking but it was more challenging than the first 5 days.

Just done my second injection and I felt much more confident about it 😊

MiaN · 07/08/2026 04:48

Glad I found this thread. Feel less anxious starting next week if I have people in same situation. My husband had meal booked for our anniversary this weekend and I asked him to cancel. I am so over everything being around food - In prefer going out for movie and if we lave something more sensible after I am ok with that - the restaurant he booked looked very indulgent with like vegetables to be seen. I am still little anxious but also hopeful for next week
