Hello everyone, I'm due to start on MJ in the next few days, and I'm feeling nervous!

I've been above size 20 since I was about 14/15 years old. The highest weight I've ever logged was 134kg, about 14 years ago. I'm currently 117kg. I also have issues with my heart caused by Cushing's, type 2 diabetes and PMOS.

In the past few years, I'm yo-yo'd between 125kg and 110kg three times. I know how to lose weight and can do it... but as soon as work gets busy or stressful, I fail and give up. I also have an issue with binge and secret eating.

I went for my annual diabetic review yesterday and the nurse basically used the whole time telling me about going on MJ, because my BMI is over 40 (well, as of yesterday's weigh in, I'm 39. something) and because of my other health conditions. I didn't have to fight for it, or request it.. they're just giving it to me.

Now I'm doing as much reading/ video watching as I can to clue myself up.

On my on-track days, I eat:

Breakfast: 2 scrambled eggs with some flavouring- chilli flakes or marmite or 15g cheddar.

Lunch: Chicken thigh fillet in some kind of seasoning mix, salad made of lettuce, pepper, tomatoes, cucumber, sugarsnaps, carrot. Sometimes 3 cream crackers and a laughing cow triangle as well.

Dinner: Varies- roast chicken dinner/ 5% fat mince spaghetti bolognese with wholewheat pasta/ beef burger without the bun with cheese, salad on half the plate, usually without chips, noodles with chicken and stirfry veg.

Snacks: Usually a portion of berries/ a nectarine/ cherries/ 25g peanuts at 4pm.

How does that sound?

I have a treadmill and run/walk at 6.5/6km/hr pace for 30 mins three times a week. The nurse said I should do some weights for my arms too.

Any recommendations for which day I should inject?

I am back to pre holiday weight, with official weight in/jab day tomorrow. I still have not decided to go to 5 tomorrow, or 3 or stay at 2.5 but as I feel I am able to stick to lower calories since back it is worth a shot to try 2.5 for another week, at home. My efforts count and can support the medication results - such as the medication can support me in my efforts.

The maths for the holiday are really 1 week holiday - slow down of 2 weeks of effort. 1 up, 1 down.

My 10 weeks plan is officially starting tomorrow, with weekly lectures - some good, some really rubbish, but also daily and nighty supportive video messages, mid day short mindfulness type of moments, daily journaling prompts, affirmations. They are bit of an idiots saying no strength exercise unless you are stone close to your goal weight, and the actual dietary advise isn't as good as it could be but I plan to take what works and leave the rest

To keep it really, I have not done my morning walk or my exercise yet. Working from home I will get the oportunity later and I needed the extra time in bed. I woke up drained.

I am on week 3 of 5mg and I have just lost another 2kg in a whoosh, having had a stall for about 10 days. So I'm 6kg down in 7 weeks, and will probably stay at 5mg next month too.

@WombatCowgirl You can get needles and the pre injection swabs from any online pharmacy. I can’t remember which one I used now, but I got 100 of each for a bit over £10, and that included paying for delivery.

You know how our American friends use pounds but not stone…. well, under that system, I am “in the 170’s” for the first time. That means just under 12-12 to the rest of us. Yes, 179.9lb, aka 12-11.9, that’s me on Trendweight.

It’s slow, but it’s happening. Sometimes I look in the mirror and think, yes, I look slim (for me). Other times I look in the mirror and think, gosh look how much flab is left. Then I tell myself sternly that the subcutaneous fat isn’t what matters, it’s my visceral fat which affects my health. And that has improved but still has a way to go.

I went for a sight test this morning. I had already decided I was going to get a new pair of glasses, I could tell my prescription wasn’t quite right. I had also decided I was going to pay for a pair from the opticians, rather than take my prescription to the cheapo lens place which I did last time, and the glasses I ended up with are not that great. And I decided I was going to have bells and whistles, e.g. varifocals with a wider viewing area, UV protection etc - and a second pair of sunglasses with just my distance prescription, for driving and walking group.

I have ended up with a pair which have a magnetic clip on sunglasses lens, which is better than having a separate pair especially when the ligh is changing. Also means that if we go on a sauna and pool ho;I day at some point (which we used to do a lot, but not since we retired) I will be able to read by the pool with sunglasses. It ended up better overall than two separate pairs. But they are eye-wateringly expensive - over £600, and most of that is the lenses, not the frames.

But you know what? I’m worth it. I need good vision. I need good health. And I’m worth the monthly cost of my MJ as well, for as long as it takes.

And I am still working hard on my eating habits, fasting (even when I don’t feel like it) and my exercise routine. And my body feels good…. If still more flabby than I would like.

I got my needles from Chemist4u. Much cheaper than amazon.

For info really, I went on the Bolt app today to reorder and they offered me 5 for the same price as my 2.5 (£149 I know it's not the cheapest but that was £30 off) and when I said I was sticking at 2.5, they offered me 2 pens with £40 off.
I checked with a message on how that would affect my 4 week subscription and they said they would just extend my next check in to 8 weeks with no issues.
They did say the 2 pen offer is only when not going up a dose and it's the same as splitting one pen over more weeks I guess, but with full visibility for Bolt and subscription continuation (for anyone using that model).

purplepie1 · 29/09/2026 13:03

anyone noticed that they have stopped biting their nails since being in Mounjaro?

MiaN · 30/09/2026 05:23

W1-2.5kg
W2 -2.4kg
W3 -1.3kg
W4 -0.9kg
W5 -0.9kg
W6 +0.2kg
W7 -0.5kg
CW 88.7kg

And we go again. I am 2.2kg away from leading obese bmi and I am going to focus on that. Staying on 0.25 on well 8 but I have ordered 0.5 to be able to move when I feel ready

MiaN · 30/09/2026 05:32

Leaving obese BMI, not leading. 7.3kg loss in 7 weeks is fantastic, I am going to be happy for it.

Ah this is interesting, I’m on Bolt and about to go up to 5mg, did you ask for the discount or did they just offer it? Thanks

PuzzledObserver · 30/09/2026 09:23

@MiaN great progress, well done. And that dividing line between obese and overweight is emotionally HUGE - I spent a good 10 months on one side, then the other, criss crossing back and forth. Now moved firmly away to it (thanks to MJ) and feeling good.

I like to think in terms of mini targets, things which I can reasonably expect to reach within the next few weeks. One current one is to get to the point of having lost a total of 6 stone since January 2024. As of this morning, that is only 0.6lb away as I started at 18-10.8 and am now 12-11.4 Then the next one will be to get under 12.7.

I also move back and forth between scale weight and trendweight, and I do BMI targets…. The scale this morning said my BMI was 27.5. This is truly unimaginable to me (though on trend weight it’s 28.2). So I look forward to: trendweight BMI under 28, scale BMI under 27 etc. It just gives me lots of little things to pat myself on the back about, and that keeps the motivation flowing.

I'm interested in this too as I'm with bolt and moving up to 5mg soon!

I messaged them and asked and they said no we already get a discount to £179 🙄

FeelingALittleStrangeToday · 30/09/2026 22:09

@Mamatriesmounjaro @Ringonrighthand it just came up when I did my reorder. I've had 2 pens at 2.5mg so far. They suggested 5mg this time with the price of £149 reduced from £179. I selected 2.5mg again with a price of £149 and the offer of 2 pens with a £40 discount popped up. I messaged to ask how the subscription would work if I took 2 pens as I worry that if I don't reorder straight away I'll get refused. They said the reorder would automatically move to 8 weeks. I said I would have 1 2.5mg pen this time and probably do 2 5mgs on my next order and they said just for info the 2 pens offer is not available on the first order if your dose changes. So if you do move up to 5mg then you will not see it immediately.

Anyone laying bets on when we’re going to need to start thread #2? I think that honour should belong to @chocolatecoveredpretzels as the thread founder.

chocolatecoveredpretzels · 30/09/2026 22:54

@PuzzledObserver you’re definitely observant! Thanks for the head’s up.

I’ve started a new thread for us- happy to move over there? www.mumsnet.com/talk/weight-loss-injections/5584270-august-2026-starters-thread-2
