Feel free to lurk or post, absolutely no judgement here, just support and encouragement as we spring into spring not obsessing over Easter Eggs for the second year 🥰

Join us here to celebrate NSV’s, weight loss milestones, maintenance and new stone brackets!
I’m on W68 D6 and on w12 of 2.5mg maintenance dose.

F in my early 50’s
H 5’ 5.5”
SW 13st 11lb
CW 9st 10lbs
GW 9st 0lb
Total loss so far at lowest weight was 61.0 lbs (at 9st 6.0) maintenance has seen 4 of those pounds go back on.

We recommend the Shotsy app to monitor the amount of MJ in the system and pleasing graphs to look at…plus the MeThreeSixty body scan app to monitor inch loss for the weeks where weight loss is slow but you might have lost body fat etc. Both are free.
Feel free to swap recipes that might inspire anyone in a food rut, tips for managing side effects, exercise tips, tips for maintenance, titrating up or down and we love a wellness/supplements/beauty/ style/vinted chat too 🤗

I crashed a previous WLI thread as people just refused to believe that it wasnt working for me, it got really quite nasty.
My question is, has any one come across anyone where it just didn’t work for them?

I’m sorry that was your experience - we’re here to help!

Bottom line is that You can’t evade science I’m afraid! Your energy expenditure needs to exceed your intake. There are 3500 calories in a lb of fat. You need to be in a deficit of at least that in a week to lose a single lb - so either move more or eat less. But before doing so you need to understand your BMR and then your TDEE. Do you have access to body composition scales? My BMR is around 1340 cals so if I do zero movement in a day I cannot Consume more than 1340 cals each day without putting on weight over a week. As you hit menopause the amount of cals you can consume definitely decreases. Are you in mid life? Do you know your BMR/TDEE? Do you monitor your macros?

i believe it has worked for most of the Nov 24 posters but having said that MJ doesn’t work for everyone. I believe it is something like 6% or 7% of people it doesn’t work for at all. Maybe best to talk to your prescriber who may suggest alternatives to MJ, perhaps try Wegovy and if that doesn’t work there are other alternatives that are not as powerful as they are not GLPs.

TheSlimmingPumpkin · 01/03/2026 17:52

@Thesofathatwas alas even with MJ or Wegovy helping with the heavy shifting @Mounjaropen is right. We have to work with the medication for it to work

From Zava

From Asda

We recommend avoiding these foods while on Mounjaro:

  • Ultra-processed foods - boxed cereals, most bread and pastries, fast food, microwave meals, pizza, crisps, biscuits, ice cream, fizzy drinks, and premade sandwiches.
  • Refined carbohydrates - white pasta, white rice.
  • Refined oils - vegetable oil, sunflower oil.
  • Sweets -* *chocolate, boiled sweets, confectionery products.
  • Alcohol

A lot of the Nov 24 gang are now into exercise & fitness and are gradually moving into maintenance. (I am not in maintenance yet). I did couch to 5k and now run 3 times a week

How long have you been taking MJ? Are you certain that it is not just a plateau? I have had plateaus lasting 3 or 4 weeks.

Thesofathatwas · 01/03/2026 18:57

Thank you for your replies and for being so kind, I truly appreciate this, thank you everyone.

I have persisted. It really doesn’t appear to be working for me.

This is 100% spot on:
“As you hit menopause the amount of cals you can consume definitely decreases”

I am perimeno, entering into menopausal now. My daily needs intake is definitely below 1000 cals a day.

I can honestly say, I have been doing the work, but yet again, I have failed.

That’s 35 years of every diet, trick, fad, long term strategy tried numerous times and always, without fail, failed. Now this.

I had so much hope.

My 10mg pen arrived, I’m going to do it, one last ditch try this coming month.

Wegovy is unlikely to work either as it’s the same family of medication so there’s no point in wasting any more money.

Good to hear that I’m not the only one who finds the drug ineffective.

jay55 · 01/03/2026 19:22

@Thesofathatwasits deffo not been a linear loss for all of us, some on this thread had good consistent losses and some of us have had losses in fits and starts.
Most of us have experienced pauses at set points and we mostly agree we’d have given up in the past during those stalls, trusting the process has become a mantra.

And some on the thread have been super responders, able to stay on low doses, others have had to go all the way up to keep losing.

Hormones play a huge part and where you are in relation to peri/meno/pcos can really make a huge difference.

Also if you have any inflammation issues, it can be a slower start as apparently the drug attacks inflammation first.

Are you feeling any effects?

Best of luck on 10, I’m on 10 and currently on a losing streak. Did well at 5, not at 7.5 and 12.5 was terrifying and I came back down quickly.

Thesofathatwas · 01/03/2026 19:29

First month I dropped one stone, I was delighted!
Now it’s been 5 months, going up the doses with zero loss or even gains. 5 months of nothing yet doing all the work.
Dropped 4lbs in 3 weeks on 10mgs this last month. Hence why I’m sticking it out.
Maybe 10mgs is my sweet spot!

TheSlimmingPumpkin · 01/03/2026 19:30

So it is working then. Just not linear.

stick with it and talk to your prescriber

Thesofathatwas · 01/03/2026 19:50

But 5 months of medicated treatment with zero loss or even weight gains to me is not working.

Don’t despair. You do however need to record what you are eating and how many calories that intake is. I’ve lost weight through consistent levels of exercise on 5 out of 7 days. And an exclusively non UPFs, low carb diet. MJ is not a silver bullet. It takes effort.

OP posts:
Thesofathatwas · 01/03/2026 20:30

Yep, I do track, have done for years. I’ve been at this trying and failing to loose weight for over 30 years.

for the last 6 months, I average between 500-900 cals a day. Within those calories is high nutritional content, high fibre low carb, no UPFoods, batch cook from scratch.
Don’t touch alcohol, don’t touch red meat (for over 35 years now).

And yes, I put the work in, I am doing everything I can.

Insulin resistance, metabolic syndrome, perimenopause means it is almost impossible to shift any weight.

Mounjaro has for me controlled the weight. It is stable.
By going above 1000 cals a day, I can gain up to 4lbs in one week. So MJ has kept me at a static weight.

TheSlimmingPumpkin · 01/03/2026 20:48

You definitely need to talk to your prescriber in that case.

random223 · 01/03/2026 21:04

I understand @Thesofathatwas . It is heartbreaking if it doesn't seem to work. My calorie requirement is also low. Are you quite little height-wise? I have been lucky that MJ has worked for me if I low-carb and keep my calories low but your struggles sound very similar to how I was before starting. I understand that from the clinical trials there was a certain number of people who didn't respond. I hope you are not one of them. I would suggest that you go up the doses if you can - remaining stable is an achievement so it is definitely having some impact if you were previously gaining weight. Could you increase exercise to give a little extra boost to your calorie deficit? Are you able to share your TDEE/BMR so we can try to help a bit more. Are you very stressed? The major thing that MJ has done for me is the ability to keep going. My friend has struggled because she is on medication that causes weight gain so her progress has been quite limited but she is getting there slowly.

Is it possible your body is in starvation mode? Do you do cardio or strength training? Or both? For roughly how long and how many times per week? You might be someone who doesn’t respond, but genuine consumption of 500-900 cals alongside exercise resulting in zero loss would send me to the GP and a referral to an endocrinologist. Something is definitely not right. 💐

OP posts:
Thesofathatwas · 01/03/2026 21:23

Just did a TDE calculation (never done this before) and it says 1504cals a day.
so if I’m eating around 900 cals a day, that’s a deficit of around 600 cals a day.
The science says I SHOULD be loosing weight. I’m not.
At 5ft 1, 11 stone 5lbs, I’m still in size 18 clothes.

Thank you. I just hate the misinformation in other places. These drugs can be transformative and people talk about them so negatively and cruelly. It's fine not to want to take them yourself but to say they're incredibly dangerous and that they make you look like you have a serious illness is beyond that. This thread is such a contrast - a beacon of positivity. It's a great space.
In nice news my 3 new Vinted purchases are all big ticks and cost less than £30 in total. I managed to get a dress recommended on S&P for under a tenner with fees and p&p so am a happy force today!

DarkForces · 02/03/2026 11:20

S&B not S&P. Maybe mj has ruined my typing 😂

TheSlimmingPumpkin · 02/03/2026 11:22

I am putting up some size 14 stuff today on Vinted. Hopefully not premature but it’s a good incentive.but I want to move on from the baggy look.

Checking in!

42, F, 5’2”. Started in Nov and lost just over 3 stone, from 12 st 7 to 9 st 3 at my lowest. I titrated slowly down the doses and came off MJ on 27 Jan. I was 9 st 6 when I came off, and I’m now hovering between 9 st 6 and 9 st 8, BMI 24. Still feeling good - nothing dire has happened (yet)!

I have a holiday booked to Cyprus in April - watching the news in dismay! Waiting for a pair of denim shorts to arrive from Vinted (if we are allowed to fly, that is) and need to get all my holiday stuff out and try it all on.

DarkForces · 02/03/2026 16:18

@TooExtraImmatureCheddar fingers crossed it'll be fine by April. You deserve to wear shorts on the beach 🏖️

You’re doing fabulously! So positive to be maintaining off MJ.

Everything crossed the situation settles down soon (for everyone involved).

I’ve been listing a lot of 16s and 14s. I still have my squirrelled collection to be reviewed. I am feeling determined to keep it off. Every day I start to feel a bit more confident in my new body (and it feels a little bit more real). Despite having a stable couple of weeks I’m still finding as I go to put some things on they are suddenly gaping on me. It’s so nice to try new styles and be able to find things that fit in the sales.

Revealed to a colleague over dinner last night (who I met last year) that I was on Mounjaro (whilst chomping on curry in Dishoom 😅). She was really surprised - she hadn’t known the ‘old me’ and it was weirdly gratifying - that I’m apparently not wandering about looking all gaunt and saggy faced etc as many would have us believe 🤣

Goldleafcat · 03/03/2026 14:00

PinkArt · 28/02/2026 13:07

@Iwantniceclothes While you're finding your style again, would it help take the pressure off by buying a few of your older clothes in smaller sizes on Vinted? Not as a permanent solution but just so you get used to how smaller you looks and moves in clothes while you work out what you really want to buy.
Your post is very relatable. I've always described myself as very hourglass, with long legs. But when I was 19+ stone that wasn't actually an accurate description any more. My legs had chunked out so much that they didn't read as especially long. And I'd put on so much weight around my middle that I wasn't actually hourglass. I had curves all over the place but no actual hourglass silhouette any more.
Now I'm rediscovering my old body shape I'm so much more excited about dressing it. I'm working out what still works for me from clothes that have languished under the bed for a decade and what I want to buy new. Vinted has been so useful for the latter as a cheaper way to experiment.

Oh and thanks for the new thread @Mounjaropen !

Edited

@Iwantniceclothes I heartily agree with @PinkArt on the Vinted front- I’ve felt exactly the same way and it’s taken me months to start getting braver and out of my traditional comfort zone. I started buying things that were either smaller versions of what I already had (so I knew what size to aim for and it was familiar / safe). Then as the algorithm started figuring out the kinds of styles I liked I tried some different items and my confidence grew from there.

I’m keeping an eye on the Style & Beauty threads (sometimes really useful and inspiring, sometimes very much WTF), and am reading fashion mags again. Don’t expect to become Carrie Bradshaw overnight, for me it’s been like a kind of osmosis as the new fashions and styles start to sink in slowly to my brain and I decide whether I actually like them. I’m trying to get on with wide leg jeans at the moment, it’s taking a while to figure out how to style them. A pair of M&S palazzo jeans from vinted arrived today so I’m going to try them with a few shirts (tucked in! 🫣) and form fitting tops to see what works. Also the dreaded (and boxier) short jumpers seem to work well with them for some inexplicable reason.

The great thing with Vinted is that hopefully you won’t be spending too much and if it doesn’t work out you can always list it to re-sell.

Good luck and have some fun!

PinkArt · 03/03/2026 15:27

@Goldleafcat Accessories is where I channel my inner Carrie Bradshaw! A sequinned bag, fabulous sunglasses, rainbow sapphire rings... They fit whether I'm 19 stone or 9 stone (I've not been 9 stone since I was about 15 so I don't know if this is actually true!).
I've bought a couple of Tu dresses in a smaller size for this summer as a bit of a comfort blanket while I work out how I feel in the metallic pleated skirts I also bought.
It is very on brand that my answer is just buy all the things 😂
