BG2015 · 26/12/2025 11:58

Hi, my first WG pen is in the fridge ready to start on 1st January.

Im 56 (57 in Feb) post menopausal and cancer survivor in remission 5 years nearly. still taking cancer prevention medication that I believe that is hindering my weight loss. I just can't seem to lose it no matter how much I try. It took me 5 months to lose 10lb earlier on in the year.

Im 5' 8" so carry my extra weight well.

Weigh in day for me - lost another two pounds - so nine pounds in two weeks overall.

for those of us on 2.5mg are you going up to 5mg?

I can’t decide. I last injected on Sunday and definitely feel hungrier today and know tomorrow I will. I think I will inject tomorrow (intended to last week but fell asleep and woke up at 3am on the Sunday morning and panic-jabbed)

I didn’t inject on Day 8 and felt hungrier. Today is Day 9 I didnt inject and I feel good suppression. I will just wait until a bit. Also I am constipated so not injecting until I poop

I'm not going up
I stayed on 2.5 for two months just to get my body properly used to the medication
I have ordered another 2.5 as I'm not really in any rush to lose the weight quickly and obviously just more expensive

I was quite constipated for the first few days. Am taking a regular glass of fybogel now and and feeling much better, and more regular, for it

blackandwhitefluffycat · 16/01/2026 17:07

Congratulations @notcomfortable !

I’ll be going up to 5 as it’s only £10 more expensive, even though I have full suppression - I’ve had no feelings of hunger at all since starting, and no cravings! I’ll look at the time and think ‘oh, it’s 1pm and I haven’t eaten, I’d better have something! Pre MJ I’d be thinking about food all morning until I ate!

I've only had one dose so far, so a bit early to tell. I had in my mind before starting that I wouldn't go over 5mg because I do a fair bit of running so I need to be able to fuel those runs, and thought it would help me learn better eating behaviours in the long term if some of it was down to me, but I don't feel the effect has been as huge as I expected so we'll see. I actually have an extra 2.5mg pen (initially ordered a pen last year, but chickened out), so I can use that to extend the slow intro before I use the 5mg they will be sending, or have it in hand if I feel I need to drop down again. I've gone for Monday as my jabbing day as I might need eat a bit more on Sundays, the day I am usually most active.

I haven't weighed since a cheeky peek on Tuesday, I'm going to try and stick to once a week check on Monday so I don't get too hung up on it. I've been feeling a lot lighter, and lots more energy too somehow (possibly due to not having any sugar, drinking lots of water, and lots of vegetables!). I do still think about food and enjoy eating it, but the thinking has reduced a bit I think, and I feel full for much longer on smaller portions. Having said I have more energy, I'm slumping a bit today as I woke up in the night and couldn't go back to sleep, not a side effect I don't think, just my menopausal mind! Manic two days at work as well, but I'm just off to the gym, about 6 later than I'd planned, or otherwise I'll be annoyed with myself!

2026istheyear · 16/01/2026 17:23

That is really similar to how I feel @CatNoBag - more energy and lighter. I’m also still enjoying food but need smaller portions - must be what naturally slim people normally feel like! I was meant to go swimming earlier but work got in the way so I’m about to force myself to do a Peleton class.

Alltheyellowbirds · 16/01/2026 17:23

I’ve just done my second jab. Every bit as nerve-wracking as the first - trying to wade my way through the enormous sheet of instructions, not make any mistakes, and then having a little panic once it’s done that maybe I’m about to be struck dead. I guess the process will get more automated with practice.

I’ve done it a day early which I hope doesn’t lead to more extreme side effects. Decided I’d rather move from Sat to Friday night and have the best suppression on Saturday and Sunday when I’m off work and most at risk of grazing.

Can I ask @blackandwhitefluffycat if you are feeling full suppression on 2.5mg, what are the additional advantages of moving up to 5mg?

I've had good suppression on 2.5 too so curious to know your thinking. I'm undecided whether to go up or not (though to be fair, I have 3 more weeks to go before I have to decide!)

@notcomfortable great news on the job! Well done!

I'm going to wait and see as it's working for me at the moment. It only starts to wear off at the end of the week at the moment because we're new to it.

DH (chemistry prof) explained it to me last night. Something to do with the half life (how quickly the body gets rid of it), means it wears off less and less between doses. Until it does wear off at all. Which for mounjaro is 50 days.

MrTiddlesTheCat · 16/01/2026 17:59

I think I explained that completely wrong. It made my head hurt last night too. But basically, you won't feel the full effect of the dose you're on for a month or two.

Whatstfpoint · 16/01/2026 18:13

That's really good to know. I certainly felt much less peckish before the end of the 2nd dose than before the first one.

YouBelongWithMe · 16/01/2026 18:33

Day 1 here for me after injection last night. Feel like it must all be in my head because it can't have kicked in so well already.

Today I got up and made my coffee to take to work. Forgot to drink it until midmorning. Didn't drink it all.

Had a v small portion of chia+greek yoghurt with a pink lady apple at 12.30pm

Got an M&S individual meal in the oven which I'm looking forward to but not STARVING for.

Ate no sweets. No grazing in the car on the weekend treats I bought the kids.

😱

@notcomfortable great news on the job! Well done!

I googled last week as I’d been considering staying on 2.5 and it said that 2.5 wasn’t even classed as a therapeutic dose and is just to get your body used to it. I think MJ acts on more than just appetite (insulin resistance?), and as I’m battling the effects of HRT on me (weight gain!) I feel I need all the extra help I can get, especially after this week’s 0 loss even with the low number of calories that I ate each day. I’m also worried if I got another 2.5 it would lose effectiveness and I’d be stuck with it for weeks.

My husband went up to 5 despite losing lots on 2.5 and he has been dropping multiple lbs weekly consistently for a couple of months on 5 - he’s not going to go up any further than that.

Great news! Similar here. My plan is to weigh and jab on a Friday from now on. I lost 3.5 this week so 9 in total for me over 2 weeks too. I’ve just had the email from Med Express asking me to order but I’m unsure whether to stick with 2.5 or move up to 5 as well.
No side effects yet for me, apart from wine tasting weird so probably not a bad thing. 😂

ThisAmusedPoet · 16/01/2026 19:17

I’m a bit frustrated as I was looking forward to “food noise” dying down but because I’m trying to count calories, I seem to be thinking about food a lot! Even if it’s to make sure I’m eating enough (and of the right things), so I’m constantly planning backwards from
dinner and it feels like the thoughts of food are still way too prevalent. Wondering if maybe I should relax on the calorie counting and just let MJ do its thing.

or maybe the food noise thing won’t kick in for me for a few more jabs and a higher dose.

Splitunnoticed · 16/01/2026 19:18

I’m due dose 4 on Sunday. Currently on 2.5. Will do the golden dose for 5th one and then try 5 to see what happens.

4kg down in 3 weeks (bmi now 26.6, so I feel fortunate I was able to get MJ in the first place).

No side effects and no appetite so 2.5 seems to be working. I’ve eaten the same food (1000 calories) every day for nearly 3 weeks 😂 I like not having to think about food at all, especially as DH and DCs eat super delicious food I’d usually be salivating over!!

I’m not calorie counting. I want to use this time to learn how to eat properly in a way I can sustain forever, and I don’t want to calorie count for the rest of my life - I know some people do quite happily but it is something my brain finds stressful. Plus I agree on it increasing food noise.

Instead im going to focus on only eating when im hungry and as much as i need and trying to learn what that portion size looks like.

I am though writing everything I eat and drink in a little notebook. It’s not stressful at all to make a quick note while im eating, and it gives me a record to look at and check I’m getting enough fibre and protein.

I’m going to take my third 2.5 jab this evening and my 5mg is in the fridge ready to start .

I’ve lost more than I thought I would and also had some wine this week - still no symptoms .

how do you do the golden dose ? Do lots of people do it ? Im a Stickler for the rules .

I’m planning to buy insulin needles from Amazon and withdraw the MJ from the end of the pen. Tap to ensure no bubbles and release a tiny amount into the air, then inject.

Never done it before as it’s my first pen, but seems such a waste of money to bin the solution!!

KeepPloddingOn4Ever · 16/01/2026 20:01

well done everyone. I've now jad 2 jabs (will be due my 3rd on sunday). Am weighing tomorrow as I;m also doing slimming world alongside. I only lost 1.5lbs in week 1 and I don't think I will have lost anything tomorrow as I've not managed to go to the toilet since Sunday. I often have this when I start to eat healthier but never quite as long as thing! Is anyone else having this problem and what did you do? I expect I will have put weight on tomorrow! Thanks

I was feeling the effects of no movements after a few days, mine can be very sensitive to any changes in routine. Have introduced fybrogel into my day and feeling much better for it

okay, thanks- sorry you were suffering too! I will pick some up tomorrow if nothing happens before then!

Alltheyellowbirds · 16/01/2026 20:19

Wanted a baked potato tonight. Only had small ones so I put two in the air fryer - only ate one so that’s a small victory! No way I would have stopped at one tiny potato before. Hoping it’s little things like this that’ll add up over time.
