Hi, my first WG pen is in the fridge ready to start on 1st January.

Im 56 (57 in Feb) post menopausal and cancer survivor in remission 5 years nearly. still taking cancer prevention medication that I believe that is hindering my weight loss. I just can't seem to lose it no matter how much I try. It took me 5 months to lose 10lb earlier on in the year.

Im 5' 8" so carry my extra weight well.
CW 13stone
TW 11 stone

Whose joining me on this weight loss journey?

I did it - I ordered my first 2.5 MJ pen

I ordered it in the last half hour so I imagine I will have to wait until Friday or Saturday for it to arrive

I’m going to my mil for dinner on Saturday so I probably should wait until after we’ve been in case I get any side effects! 😬

I am not telling anyone, except one very close friend who has already taken mounjaro to great effect - I don’t want to tell my DH yet as I want no pressure weightloss and I know if I mention it he will be lovely and supportive rather than ignoring it which is what I need!

I feel like the start of this is my own personal battle - which I want to win alone (hopefully with tons of support from here!)

BooptotheFloof · 30/12/2025 23:24

Also my friend said he takes it Sunday night - so Monday and Tuesday he barely eats as he has no appetite at all then by Friday Saturday he can enjoy a tasty meal without feeling he is missing out

I quite like that as a plan - I work with food so the whole food noise is a nightmare for me - if I can just block it out for a few days a week it’ll make all the difference

it seems like a lot of people are going down the WG route because it is cheaper long term - I am starting on MJ - as I need to really positive kick start! But I might just do it for a short time maybe three months and then move to WG if I feel more confident about my own willpower

What are other people doing - or are you not planning (this is what the 3am me was thinking about last night - at least tonight I have made this decision so it’s one less thing to keep me awake!)

Ocelotfeet27 · 31/12/2025 01:00

Hi everyone, planning to have my first shot of MJ on 1st Jan, having given myself a day or so to boost my hydration levels, first pen arrived today. Haven't opened it yet. Finding it all a bit scary. But hopefully all good once I am underway. And c. 7 stone to lose so need to get going 😁

ProblematicallyPorus · 31/12/2025 02:35

Hi all!

I'm hoping I can join you. I am waiting for my WG to arrive in a few days time. I have about 3 stone to lose. I'm short and I don't carry extra weight well at all!

New to mumsnet so im not sure if this is ok, but i have a discount code for VOY if anyone is interested? You get £50 off and so do I. If you message me I can send you the link.

I'm a little skeptical but mostly really excited and impatient for it to arrive!!

I've been working hard on building my muscle mass over the last while and im keen not to lose too much of that, but i figure you lose a bit of muscle mass when losing weight the traditional way too.

That feels like a good plan to still enjoy the weekend.

I ordered yesterday so depending on when it arrives, I didn’t want to start and feel rubbish straight away for work on Monday. Was hoping to at least have a day at home just in case, but we’ll see. I also just want to get going and stop delaying!

Yes I think giving yourself a start day that you know you can escape from the world if necessary (which for me is a Sunday) is a good idea

I work with food so if I am ‘ill’ I can’t work for 48 hours so I’ll have to be really careful with what I eat so that I don’t exacerbate the side effects

Ooh I think I'm going to do the opposite and take mine on a friday night when I have the whole weekend to manage any potential side effects before work on Monday.

If I'm trying to eat well I always find the weekend the hardest and tend to "undo" any good eating or calorie restriction that I've done mon-thur by "treating myself" over the weekend. It's become such a frustrating cycle! I'm really hoping WG can help me break it.

Blandpedant · 31/12/2025 08:42

Hi all, I’m joining you! BMI 28 and due to start MJ tomorrow, with about 2-2.5 stone to lose. Hoping to do this by June. Historically I’ve been a bit phobic of needles so not looking forward to my first injection 😂. (I’ve joined with Voy if anyone wants a discount code)

BooptotheFloof · 31/12/2025 08:53

From what I’ve read about the needles it isn’t as bad as you think! I have a history of genuinely passing out when people come at me with needles and I’ve read enough people saying it’s not that bad that I’m confident it’s not a problem ….. hopefully! 😂

Oh great thank you! Fingers crossed for tomorrow 🤞

BG2015 · 31/12/2025 09:07

I'm doing my first injection tomorrow. I don't work Friday or Monday and it suits me. Juniper support bods say that side effects are worse on day 3 so hopefully I can suffer at home if that happens, plus I want the food suppression over the weekend which is when I'm more likely to be at home and eat.

I am wondering when I should start taking it. A Sunday seems like a good shout for the reasons above.

I am a little worried about managing any unwanted side effects - my two days off a week aren’t together so I run the risk of having an issue at work.

I decided to start with MJ as I’m hoping I will see results quicker. And with 6 stone to lose, I need all the motivation I can get! I’m hoping I’ll be able to get codes regularly to help with the cost a little but will see how we go!

Which prescriber did you go with? I have a discount code for VOY if that's helpful?

I am also a little concerned about the side effects. In my job I have lots of little breaks during the day but there's also lots of times it would be really hard/impossible for me to just get up and run to the loo.

Springflowers3 · 31/12/2025 09:49

Hi, I would love to join you too.

Have had MJ in the fridge for several weeks and was poised to start in December and join the December starters group but decided to wait until all the festivities were out the way.

I’ll be 57 in January, three years in remission from cancer and since surgical menopause have found that all my usual ways of managing my weight are not nearly as effective as before this. My bmi is 34, I’m short and top heavy. Not sure what my target weight is but at least two stone and then maintain that.

I’ve been quite open about it and have several friends with really positive experiences. I have high blood pressure and on two lots of meds for this. Would love to be able to sort my bp out too as it has done for one of my friends on MJ.

Quite excited but apprehensive. Can’t really imagine what it’s going to be like.

The very best of luck to us all.

letsdothis5 · 31/12/2025 09:59

Morning ladies,

I took my first one Sunday and fortunately the only side effects I’ve had so far is no food noise and massive appetite surpression! I was worried about sickness/diarreah but fortunately I’ve been fine. I felt quite nauseous over the first 24hrs or so but nothing more.

I was also worried about the injection, but it was fine! I actually got my husband to do it as I struggle doing it myself but I didn’t actually feel a thing!

good luck those starting soon!

Wasitabadger · 31/12/2025 10:21

@ProblematicallyPorus could I please use your discount code if it is MJ? Many thanks in advance.

the needles are small and it doesnt hurt when using

BooptotheFloof · 31/12/2025 10:55

When are people planning to weigh - historically I am very much an over weigher - when I’m dieting I will weigh myself every morning and evening - which I know is ridiculous

I keep saying that as soon as I take my first dose I will only weigh once a week - but I suspect I am lying to myself

BG2015 · 31/12/2025 11:14

I'm a daily weigher, but I'm going to try and be strong and not weigh so often.

My provider has asked for daily weighs.

Spartak · 31/12/2025 12:17

Hello everyone,

My MJ pen has just arrived by post and I'm going to start on Friday.

I'm currently 15.10 and I'm aiming for around 9.10. I'm the largest I've ever been and so uncomfortable - I struggle to tie my shoe laces or wipe my arse properly.

I'm currently flipping between excitement, nervousness and terror.

Ralphiesaurus · 31/12/2025 12:28

My pen is in the fridge ready for me to start but I'm not sure what day to go for in case of side effects. I work six days a week which means I dont have a full two day weekend to get over nausea etc if it happens... I'm also flipping through multiple emotions at the moment in anticipation!
