@SecretNameforMN I bought peppermint tea and also Loperamide (from Amazon, really cheap).

SilenceInside · 27/08/2025 17:49

We usually have things like Imodium and dioralyte in the medicine cupboard at home, so I didn’t get anything extra for when I started. I did get some otc stuff for trapped wind, and peppermint tea later on, but only needed them on a couple of occasions. I don’t tend to get constipation but I’ve started having lots of kiwi fruit in an effort to keep it that way. I didn’t get a lot of nausea and thankfully don’t find that a difficult symptom to deal with.

I didn’t get any real side effects until the second week of 5mg anyway.

afaloren · 27/08/2025 17:49

@SecretNameforMN I always have Imodium and Movicol on hand, and peppermint tea. I haven’t needed them though. Maybe some Kwells in case you feel sick?

Southwest12 · 27/08/2025 17:56

My NSV today was squeezing myself into a pair of size 14 Ivy skinny jeans in M&S. I'm not a 14 in normal trousers that's for sure!

I sent someone a photo and they said how on earth are you classed as overweight. Err no, still obese (just, depending on which height I use!).

SecretNameforMN · 27/08/2025 18:01

I finally plucked up the courage to weigh myself for the first time in 9 years.

It's worse, far far worse, than I imagined in my worst nightmares. I cannot even believe I am still alive at this weight.

It's a massive shock and I wish I had someone like a counsellor with me to share the trauma load.

No wonder I cannot walk.

Thanks to all three who responded.

I never have stomach trouble and so never keep anything at home (I'm single) so I will buy the things you suggest. Peppermint tea sounds vile, is there anything else good for nausea?

You've been very brave. After starting MJ, you will never have to see that number again. Things can only get better. Big hugs.

Oh @SecretNameforMN I’m sorry. You’ve been so, so brave. Bloody well done you. We are all here to support you. You never have to tell a soul the number, you just know now so you can track your progress.

Your pen will arrive soon. You’ve already started with a low-carb approach, is that right? You have also gone cold turkey on chocolate if I recall correctly which is super impressive! Not sure I could do that.

You ARE still alive and so it’s not too late.

I've seen a lot of posts about side effects, nausea, diarrhoea and constipation being the main ones.

Before I take my first dose, is there a "set" of medicines I should buy in case I get any of these symptoms, so I have them on hand?

I found my bowels really slowed down, which was good initially as my default was IBS Diarrhoea. So lactulose is good to have in, and if you do get really constipated speak to the pharmacy about something stronger. On the other side, get Imodium equivalent in case you get diarrhoea. My friend has started on MJ, this is her 4th week and her only side effect is fatigue. So choose an injection day when you have a couple days clear just in case. And drink lots of water.

Reassure yourself that it will never be this bad again @SecretNameforMN. You've been so brave, facing up to it - that's the first step done. We understand. It will get better. We all feel some shame and sadness about what we 'let' ourselves become, and it's ok to be upset. But there is hope, there really is.

A size 14!!!! This is my goal size so that's incredible. You should be extremely proud of yourself 👏🎉

Has anybody had a pen malfunction? I have a 5mg pen but I've gone up to 7.50mg, so I'm doing 60 clicks and then 30. Was fine last week, first time I used the pen, but this week after the initial 60 it went weird. Was twisting but not clicking, and wouldn't inject. There's loads left in it and in the current climate I can't throw it away. I gave it a good check and a wipe before using a syringe instead, and the only thing I noticed was a little bit of silver that came off. The red seal looked fine after that, and the syringe worked fine and the liquid looked ok, so I went ahead. Obviously am now convincing myself I'm probably going to die in my sleep!

SilenceInside · 27/08/2025 18:28

@SecretNameforMN just wanted to say you’ve been amazing to step on those scales. I didn’t tell anyone my starting weight other than on here, no one else knows not even my DP. I don’t tell people how much I’ve lost or my current weight so they aren’t able to work out what my starting weight must have been. I just never want to say it out loud to another human being. So, you’ve done it, and now you’re on to the next step. Brava to you.

Got my zava delivery too!

Yep my oushk delivery arrived today.

Motnight · 27/08/2025 18:39

@SecretNameforMN You've done it now, another step in your journey to health. Keep talking to us, we get it.

Motnight · 27/08/2025 18:40

@Southwest12 - well done!

SilenceInside · 27/08/2025 18:41

@eibbed999 did each injection prime ok, the 60 and then the next injection that was going to be 30? I’ve not had a pen malfunction after two doses like that, only when I’ve done the hard twist to try to do a 5th dose. Then the whole plunger mechanism broke apart inside the pen.

WhineAndWine1 · 27/08/2025 18:49

I bit the bullet and ordered my normal 15mg pen with Asda. It cost me £302 and will be delivered between the 7th and 14th September

I have, it was either my second or third week and it was the 4th dose, went to twist the pen as usual at jab time and it just wouldn’t turn, tried and tried and then gave up and used a syringe. Thank goodness I had a syringe to use or I’d have been stuffed that day!

Totally agree x

This thread is literally the only place I am sharing my journey, both online and in real life. Absolutely no-one knows, husband, son, best friends, no-one. And it’s not even that I m ashamed or anything…just consider it that I’m an adult and I’m choosing to keep this particular journey to myself (and you gals obviously!) xx

It’s really lovely to be able to share it with people who genuinely understand isn’t it? The threads are so inspiring and it is comforting to know that other people are going about their lives dealing with the same kinds of issues as I am. Being very overweight is a very isolating experience in a lot of ways - the shame of not having succeeded yet at losing the weight, the panic about things that others may take for granted (going to the drs, what the seating will be like at places) and the self-exclusion from certain activities (anything with a potential weight-restriction in case of the need to declare weight, anything where an outfit might have to be provided). So being able to share the reality and not try to down play anything is so valuable!!

It primed and twisted fine for the 60, it was the 30 that did it.

@Fffreeeeezing that's interesting. What was weird was that it was actually twisting, just not clicking. Maybe it had broken somehow and that's what the little silver bit was, part of the mechanism? I probably shouldn't have syringed really but I'd only used the pen once before and it's not like it's easy to come by these days!

Autumnflowers2 · 27/08/2025 19:18

That's just reminded me ,I meant to ask ,has anyone else seen that the makers of monjroro are going to do away with the golden dose .
Can't remember where I read it either .
No extra dose in the pen 😕

Is that their permanent price fixed from September onwards ?
Have you ordered from them before..do they use DPD delivery in 24 hours

SilenceInside · 27/08/2025 19:22

@eibbed999twisting but not clicking does sound like the mechanism inside was broken, as that’s what happens when you deliberately break it with the hard twist.

@Autumnflowers2 I’ve seen some discussion of an alteration submitted for the pen design that reduces the volume of liquid spare to be only just enough for 4 lots of priming. I did think that it might happen at some point given the very generous additional amount that’s in the pen currently.
