See, this thread is like MN of old, lots of support and good advice. Maybe I need to hang out on AIBU less....

The financial reporting on this is that Eli lilly are also looking to re-align prices in Europe as well as in the UK. But most financial reporters are saying this probably won't lead to a price reduction in the US. This is nothing but Eli Lilly looking at maximising their profits in a very ethically & morally ambiguous way.
They've got us all hooked & dependent & some of us will now pay whatever price to keep going.

So, if it doesnt allow you to do more than 4 doses without forcing the click, does that mean you need to use sterile needles if you want to - for example - save money by taking 2.5mg doses from a 5mg pen?
Sorry for all the questions, just trying to figure out how to move forward.

No I wouldn’t prolong the life of the PEN for more than one week.

I can believe this wholeheartedly, it was never going to reduce the US price. Their healthcare system is too much of a cash cow to allow it. Because allow it once and it sets a precedent for all medications. Eli Lilly are profiteers who have proven themselves time and again to only care about money coz capitalism allows them to monetise our health 😬🥴

Hi @50somethingHRTaddict I’d always intended to switch to Oushk for maintenance but I’m still a way off yet. I’m not sure if my order went through with current provider (it’s still ‘pending’) so I’ve started an order with Oushk as well and have a call booked with them this week. I don’t know where I am in terms of priority with them, but they didn’t refuse me as a new customer when I registered yesterday. Worth a try maybe - although the application took hours!

FurForksSake · 16/08/2025 21:12

I do worry that I have become addicted, I was very panicked on Thursday at the idea I might not be able to get my meds. I’m basically at maintenance but having lost a significant amount before and regained it I was very keen to stay on to guarantee my maintenance.

Now I need to make a serious plan to reduce to the minimum dose I can with a good interval between doses. Not just financially but also because I don’t want to give these people money forever.

I feel so cross for us all that the drugs that we need and that do an amazing job have been ripped away or at least moved away from a lot of us.

If 15mg is 250, from Voy, is it likely to increase by 170%?

I was in floods of tears at work. I’m so far from my goal, and I can’t imagine how I’ll maintain without it because it’s the only way I’ve lost weight. But as I get lower I’m going to try and stretch my doses out a bit and go from there

I understand, at least partly, how you feel (and I hope I'm not being too literal here) but I don't think there is any suggestion that these drugs can be addicting in any real sense. It's the feeling that anyone might have at the prospect of losing access to a medication that vastly improves their life.

I think for me it’s a mental addiction rather than an addiction to anything in the drug. I’m addicted to how it makes me feel, because it makes me feel so happy and calm

Wegovy always used to contain an extra dose. All pens include extra for priming. The priming is to check whether the pen is working correctly. I've never primed since my first few pens. You can see whether the pen is working properly by monitoring the liquid level.
.I've always used the extra dose. This pen is also not locked.unlike Mounjaro. Just check what amount is left in your pen before you inject. As the amount may be variable.

Thanks for this.

I'm staying put for now and seeing how this all pans out in the coming weeks. (and hoping the increase isn't as much as predicted, it was expensive to start with)

I had the obligatory email from MedExpress offering the switch, but it's not as if Wegovy costs pennies either.

Thanks to the OP for the calm and non combative thread.

The "list price" for 15mg will now be £330 instead of the previous "list price" of £122, the list price being similar to an RRP. Voy were already charging a lot above the previous list price, so if they want to maintain the same levels of profit they are likely to increase the price to at least £330 or higher. We won't know exactly until Voy publish their new prices from 1st September.

I usually don’t have to prime as I have a little bit of “give” in the pen and I can press on that and a drop or two comes out. I’ve seen people on TikTok who do a huge amount that squirts out!

Ah, OK. I’d still be wary of using the term addiction though, even if just for your own peace of mind. Partly as it usually includes negative consequences that are ignored in order to continue use.

I think Mounjaro has been shown to reduce addictive behaviours such as excessive alcohol usage & others. It's also been shown to reduce & calm the symptoms of Adhd.

MagicaMagical · 16/08/2025 21:32

Priming is also to make sure there’s no air bubbles. I just do a tiny bit not the full prime

SilenceInside · 16/08/2025 21:37

The main reason for priming is to check that the needle is attached correctly. If it isn’t then liquid may not come out, and it is possible to damage the pen mechanism if you then try to inject. That’s due to exerting pressure on the vial through pressing the plunger down, but with nowhere for the medication to go. It can make the red seal bulge out and damage it, or break the internal winding mechanism of the pen.

Air bubbles are not a safety risk, but can cause the injection to leave a bump under your skin which can be sore.

Seaitoverthere · 16/08/2025 21:38

I’m going to try stopping I think. I am on 10mg but it isn’t very effective and I need to go up to 12.5mg but am increasing my methotrexate so don’t want to increase both at same time. I held off increasing a dose before when I started methotrexate a few months ago and haven’t lost since then which was fine as was happy to maintain for a bit.

I’ve lost more weight without Mounjaro than I have on it and whilst I have been happy on it I’m not happy what has happened this week and am going to see what happens without so I didn’t inject on Friday. If it all goes horribly wrong I will restart as still have some of a 12.5 pen and an unopened 15 in the fridge.

Allegedly Eli Lilly are going to be changing the pens so there won’t be an extra dose but the rep couldn’t tell my friend (nurse) when it will be, just that it would be coming.

Yes, voy are expensive aren't they!

Cantonet · 16/08/2025 21:44

@Seaitoverthere they've already changed the pens. The first few pens I had i could force the pen into a 5th dose. More recently I haven't been able to do that. So I've used a insulin syringe to collect up the 5th dose.
With regards to priming if the needle isn't properly attached the pen won't work. I've had that happen a couple of times. I always store my pen in the fridge so it's safe & check for any discolouration or bubbles.

Yes the first few I had you could force it, now you can’t

weegiemum · 16/08/2025 21:48

After reading this I ordered my first 10mg pen (about to start the 7.5mg in the fridge after I used the 5mg over a longer time due to extreme suppression). 10mg was £199, which seems in line with the lower prices for lower doses. I’m 2 stone down (out of 10 to lose) so can’t give up just yet!!
