Yes, voy are expensive aren't they!

Numan have confirmed to me £299 for 15 and you can use a £100 off friend referral every month if you get them not just the first, taking it down to £199.

FurForksSake · 16/08/2025 21:49

They can’t remove too much medication as the guidance is to prime, but they could probably decrease it a little. They did a poor job convincing people not to use it.

Yes I imagine they’ll reduce the amount of excess liquid in the pen. Anything to screw people over even more.

ThatCyanSheep · 16/08/2025 21:45

Yes the first few I had you could force it, now you can’t

The impression I got was it was to do with reducing the amount of extra fluid in the pen rather than whether you can force a turn or not. They decided to use the pens they use here in the UK as already had access to them but have realised that they are losing a lot of money with people syringing out the extra that is left after 4 doses and 4 lots of priming as per the instructions.

I could be wrong about this and it was just about stopping people forcing the pen but it did sound as if it would be a reduction of fluid in the pen.

CoverMeInMarmalade · 16/08/2025 21:53

All the more reason (in my mind) for me to try to maintain without it - as soon as I can but without over rushing it. I love the medication but I don’t want to be tied to this manufacturer forever. Too many changes, too unreliable.

ThatCyanSheep · 16/08/2025 21:54

I’m not really sure how they can reduce the amount in the pen if they expect us to prime? Unless they do it in single doses like they do in America?

Totally unrelated but has anyone else realised just how much an ml is when you look at the 3ml in the pen? It seems like it should be so much more!

Eventually the patent will run out and a generic version will be created but I definitely don’t want to be on the injections at these prices forever.

She did say she wondered if they are thinking of switching to single dose pens in the UK after he said it.

Wegovy always used to contain an extra dose. All pens include extra for priming. The priming is to check whether the pen is working correctly. I've never primed since my first few pens. You can see whether the pen is working properly by monitoring the liquid level.
.I've always used the extra dose. This pen is also not locked.unlike Mounjaro. Just check what amount is left in your pen before you inject. As the amount may be variable.

Ah good to know, sorry I posted incorrect information, i-ll edit my post.

Only get sterile grades ones! Also a needle to draw up then change and a new needle to administer. I prefer the blue needles.

Sorry for sounding like an eejit, but how do you do this? The syringes I bought to do the golden dose (which I’ve never got around to doing yet, so they’re still sitting in the cupboard at home) look to me like they’re ‘all in one’, not like the MJ pen that has separate needle tips that you screw on. How would you draw up with one and then get the dosage into a new one? I know it’ll be really obvious once someone explains it, but at the moment (am away from home without the syringes to hand) I can’t picture how it would be done.

I have just bought these

Syringe: https://medbasic.co.uk/1ml-unifix-luer-lock-syringe/?attribute_pa_quantity=10

Needle to withdraw: https://medbasic.co.uk/30g-yellow-0-5-inch-13mm-unisharp-needles/

Needle to inject: https://medbasic.co.uk/mesotherapy-needle-34g-4mm/?attribute_pa_quantity=10

all recommended from Reddit. You attach the needle to withdraw by twisting it on, withdraw the 5th dose, put the cap back on the needle, and remove it. Then add the smaller needle to inject yourself, cap it, and then put it all in your sharps box

SilenceInside · 16/08/2025 22:13

@Umthisisabitawkward I get Luer Lock syringes, which allow the needles to be screwed on, so you buy the Luer Lock compatible needles separately. You can extract the medication with one needle, unscrew it and then attach a new one before injected.

I use one syringe to withdraw from the pen and inject. But I am careful about hygiene and wipe the pen down very well each time before and after I use it with different wipes.

I’ve seen the two needle method states online as worse for hygiene but it just looks like more faff to me than anything.

They won't be. They have just switched Canada to the KwikPen and there are rumours that it may be introduced in the US.

Yes, voy are expensive aren't they!

To be fair, Voy are not your bog standard provider. They provide a lot of support too, coaches, apps, help if you have side effects, an AI coach etc. So you pay extra for that. I’ve been using it for my first three months and think it’s fantastic. Ironically I just left them last week because it was getting too expensive. Now everyone else is probably going to cost those prices anyway!

The American ones are the auto injectors aren’t they? Sometimes I do wish we had those because the actual act of injecting myself can be quite tough for me sometimes!

Ah ok, that clears that up and maybe all he meant was that they were going to stop the pen from being forced. He didn’t elaborate and she didn’t push him. This was a few months ago now.

There is no need to use separate needles, as the insulin syringes you have (they will probably say U-100 on the pack) are designed to draw up and to inject with the same syringe.
There is also far less chance of cocking it up or contaminating something while switching needles over.
In hospitals, insulin is drawn up and injected using the same syringe so there is no need to do anything more complicated when clinical staff are happy to do it the simplest way

I do this now thanks to @SilenceInside heloing me with advice after I mentioned I used a needle for both taking out then injected (the ones from ukmedi linked earlier) and it felt blunt and I had to really shove it in. Hated that so now switched to the lock luer and it was SO much better last time.

HappyWineDay · 16/08/2025 23:11

The only reason to use different needles is because the fluid is quite thick/viscous so it can be difficult to extract from the pen with the tiny needle you use to inject. So it’s common practice to use a big needle to extract from a vial, then switch to a really narrow needle to inject. If you find it easy to extract with the small needle then there’s absolutely no problem with injecting with the same one

This ‘Oushk’ sounds like one to stay away from, imo.

The actual pharmacy at oushk are great, customer service is fab and they are quite thorough in health questions etc. so feels very supportive and safe. Avoid the Facebook group though - very weird and cult like. Hira seems like a lovely woman but quite honestly the fangirling is too much.

I'm only on 5 so I'm hoping the price increases won't be too much - I had my weight verification call this morning and the woman said to order 2 more before prices increase. That will take me to mid November, so may do 1 or 2 more to get to January 26 at higher price then stop. I'll see, hopefully a storm in a tea cup but whatever.

The Facebook group has reached new levels of crazy over the last few days. People writing love letters to Mounjaro and Oushk as if their lover has just died at war. I know we’re all upset but come on!

I've been able to force all of my pens even the newest batch. You have to be quite forceful but it's always worked for me.

It's absolutely insane isn't it? And any dissenter is shot down.
