The thing is, obviously appetite reduction and weightloss is a key goal, obviously, but it was the other effects that made me think I’d stay on Mounjaro for life - I really feel it’s fixing something inside me. The anti-inflammation and the balancing of insulin and blood sugar… my plantar fasciitis went away overnight from the first dose (so nothing to do with losing weight, just the help with inflammation) and my PCOS symptoms are improved. Wegovy is a different drug and doesn’t claim to do any of that other stuff, just appetite suppression, so I don’t think it would be worth it - it’s also really expensive at higher doses anyway. Still gutted about this but beginning to come round to thinking I’m going to try and pay more somehow at least for another year or so (I have a lot of weight still to lose) and just try and take advantage of the benefits as much as possible and hope prices come down again somehow one day.

I’ve just seen a video on TikTok from a lady called gillian_mpharm (id link it but it would out me!). She puts the hysteria around the price rises down to TikTok and I have to admit I think social media is to blame.

Someone leaked these rises on Reddit without any context and created this mass panic. It was a really irresponsible thing to do.

The irresponsible thing thats happened is a company raising their prices with less than 3 weeks notice, when so many people rely on their medication. There should have been some consultation / gradula increase if thats was what they felt they had to do. Stinks of profiteering.

50somethingHRTaddict · 17/08/2025 11:13

It's so frustrating and I am particularly annoyed that IQ Dr have not communicated with their customer whatsoever
However, I need a pen and given the panic buying that has occurred, I think I will be lucky to get one from anywhere before the price hike
Do let me know if you get any success with CheqUp

Pharmacy Express say they will be getting restocked tomorrow/week commencing 18th so will be back on sale then.

The company is wrong for rising the prices. I’m not disputing that.

But the mass hysteria was created by the reddit post claiming that pharmacies would be purchasing it at £330 a pen. There was no consideration of the fact that was a list price etc.

Jaws2025 · 17/08/2025 11:38

Surely the company won't make more money overall, since some people will stump up the extra cost but others won't be able to, will switch to Wegovy, or simply won't start on WL injections at all?

I think the prices that have been announced so far show there’s some hefty discounts at play, so they’re going to be making a chunk still. This hasn’t gone up because of manufacturing costs, it’s because of Trump, so they’re just getting extra money. I don’t think that many of the people on them will be coming off to be honest

KrankyKumquat · 17/08/2025 11:54

@ThatCyanSheep
I also think, in time, pharmacies will heavily subsidise the price of 2.5 to pull new customers in, and we'll see an increase in 'packages' and subscriptions and other gimmicks to tie in people too (that's happening already). It's people on 12.5 and 15 who are really gonna feel it as pharmacies know people at this stage have a stronger incentive to power through price hikes and there's less need to court them.

My anger at the moment is strongest for companies like Livewell who've cancelled existing orders and put their current prices up - absolute, price-gouging bastards.

Col28 · 17/08/2025 11:59

Hi ladies. I've been on Mounjaro since May & lost just over 2 stone. I'm 71 & last week had some spotting so I'm being sent for trans vag scan. Has anyone of postmenopause age had similar. I'm very worried.

Yes I think that’ll be the case. The rises for the lower doses aren’t as brutal either. It’s such a shame as someone on the highest dose but I just need to power through. I’m not willing to take the risk of wegovy having awful side effects or not working for me when Mounjaro is working so amazingly for me

Thanks - I'm on a high dose that I can just about afford but I simply wouldn't have the money for the predicted raises, so I would have to stop.
Lower doses did nothing for me.

Wegovy had awful side effects for me. MJ was my last chance.

Cantonet · 17/08/2025 12:04

Yes @Col28 I have at 61. I was then referred for a hysteroscopy. All was fine. It's thought to be due in my case to the reduction in absorption of progesterone on Mounjaro. This meant I needed to double up my dose of progesterone to prevent a build up of the uterine lining.

Yeah from what I’ve seen it’s not the miracle twin of MJ that it’s being painted to be at the moment. It seems rather cynical from pharmacies to be encouraging it.

Wegovy is made in Denmark or affiliated to Denmark, just switch to that.

Trump has made me want to boycott Mounjaro now anyway!

Edited

Based on their annual report, 63% of their revenue is from their North America region which is pretty much the US compared to 23% from EMEA so I can assure you that they need to protect their access to the US market and will also comply.

And it is true that they make higher margins in the US compared to the UK etc so if they bring prices down on the US they will make likely have to push prices up in other regions to make up the loss in margins.

And the secondary fact that Wegovy doesn't work for everyone.

I feel your frustration @50somethingHRTaddict I'm also annoyed that IQdoctor haven't bothered with an email to us, even if it's just a quick 'we're looking at the situation and will update', maybe we'll hear something early next week?
Also fed up at being so close to target and my plans for maintenance but feeling 'pushed' into trying a different drug and risking the potential of nasty side effects. I'm messaging CheqUp and will update if I get a reply any time soon!
Eli Lilly and Trump have acted horrendously and I can't believe it's all happening at such short notice!
I really hope you manage to source another pen to keep you going for a bit longer.

I think the original leak was planned by Eli Lilly to do exactly this. It just stinks.

MynameisJune · 17/08/2025 12:21

Wow weren’t chemist4u the ones on Friday who said they had no plans to put their prices up!

Have the prices actually gone up or have they just stopped all discount codes like most pharmacies?

Chemist4u sent me an email on Friday that included this statement, so I'm amazed if they've increased prices already!
We are currently in negotiations with Eli Lilly on future pricing for Mounjaro but in the meantime, we have no immediate plans to increase our prices inline with theirs on the 1st of Septemberand have plenty of stock including bundles available

Jaws2025 · 17/08/2025 12:24

I can't see the prices without going through the consultation again

Col28 · 17/08/2025 12:28

Hi Cantonet, thank you so much for getting back to me. I'm so worried as I've had a thickening on the back of womb for years & it's always been ok. But now after being on Mounjaro this little bleed has happened. I'm dreading the trans vag scan because holding two pints of water in me is impossible tbh & I'm praying the results will be clear of cancer. Having heard your experience I'm a little relieved. Thank you.

RunAwayNow · 17/08/2025 12:32

Dh just had a call from his regular supplier LiveWell. They said they closed to new customers on Friday and are prioritising existing customers. Currently out of stock but they're expecting a delivery tomorrow.
