Big price increases?

Anyone else seen this chatter about massive price increases announced for MJ (to pharmacies) in the last hour or so?

Very concerning as it looks like it could double the cost of some of the doses. I'll try to find the copy of the letter sent out...

It must take a special kind of person to profiteer over life saving medication. I couldn’t sleep at night.

It’s because of the USA. They’ve got crazy high prices and instead of acknowledging that it’s due to the insurance companies, Trump has decided it’s because of the rest of the world getting them for cheap.

You’re blatantly sharing misinformation.

That’s per Eli Lilly.

MJLife · 14/08/2025 15:20

To give this some context the current 'list price' (i.e what the pharmacies pay) of 15mg is £122 it will now increase to £330 anyone who doesnt think massive price increases are imminent has their head in the sand sadly!

Inyournewdress · 14/08/2025 15:20

Presumably if someone changes suppliers at this point to get a cheaper price or to one that allows advance purchase, they would have to do the whole photos/questionnaire/approval again?

Unless I'm reading this wrongly it's a communication regarding the price charged to the NHS. The price charged to private providers is covered by a separate commercial agreement as referenced in the final few paragraphs and EL are clear that they expect private providers to maintain a competitive price to their customers.

Other way around NHS price will still be ok - private will definitely rise but not sure exactly by how much - may be the 170% higher or not but people will definitely be paying more.

Mounjaro®▼ (tirzepatide) KwikPen® Dose Updated UK List Price 2.5mg £133 5mg £180 7.5mg £255 10mg £255 12.5mg £330 15mg £330

It's about 400 CHF (or £365) per pen in Switzerland according to a friend of mine. Yes, it's really expensive...

Current UK prices seem comparably cheap, yes.

Aye, no pharmacy is going to be able to absorb that kind of hike, and negotiating and 'commercial deals' only go so far. There is undoubtedly going to be fairly substantial price rises, its just a case of by how much. Sadly as someone pointed out up thread, the manufacturer will be fine as they can cover costs by selling fewer units at a higher price point; some people will still pay whatever it is.

I think the thing is, by leaking this it makes it seem better if it’s “only” £275 or whatever. I’ve ordered my three pens from Oushk and we just wait and see now don’t we

waitingforthehallmarkedman · 14/08/2025 11:58

so reading that they are working out commercial terms with each private provider, hopefully that means the prices above won't be what is charged to the patient as the sales will plummet.

they now have a market that is relying on this product. Once you are hooked the prices will be raised.

WeAllHaveWings · 14/08/2025 15:27

Oushk facebook message and live Q&A tonight

I got on the site and ordered a 3rd pen and brought delivery dates of other two forward to before 29th August 🤞

So by the end of this month I'll have a current pen and 4 pen stockpile 🙈 Fridge better keep working!

Big price increases?
Foodshark · 14/08/2025 15:27

All over the internet. Trending on google. Financial times has a piece on it. Prices to rise by 130%. All down to Trump demanding the price is lowered for US market, so prices will rise in UK and other countries to make up the shortfall.

notsure55 · 14/08/2025 15:27

Just tried cloud pharmacy to bulk order but it’s only showing options for a one month supply..

You think most medications are not profitable?

SilenceInside · 14/08/2025 15:28

@Pedallleur this is true of all private prescriptions though. They’re all for a medical need that won’t just go away if the price increases.

Oh my god the fridge!! I’m definitely taking mine up to my aunt while we’re away 😬

Of course not. That’s not what profiteering means.

Wait til you hear about HIV medication for children and Martin Shrekli

RelaxedOddish · 14/08/2025 15:34

A lot of people will be forced to come off it.

The UK isn't doing great financially. Cost of living, low wages, high mortgage rates.... People can't afford this.

I will probably aim to switch to Wegovy, but won't be trying to find the money for Mounjaro.

If a lot of people do the same, Eli Lily will have to reconsider. Our prices were set based on what people could afford, this price rise will be pricing a majority of us out.

youareonlyhereonce · 14/08/2025 15:36

Why do all good things have to come to an end. I really feel for those staring their weight loss journey - but surely there will be contracts in place with the wholesaler and supplier re price increases ? (those of such a magnitude especially)

LifeOfAShowGirl · 14/08/2025 15:38

Hira from Oushk is live now and it’s clear she’s been emotional all day. She’s saying they’ll work on keeping pricing as affordable as possible - how is that even possible?!

doodleschnoodle · 14/08/2025 15:38

Hira is live just now. Not looking good, confirmed prices will dramatically increase.

She is. I just dialled in and missed the beginning but think she is saying Oushk sale price will be going up by approx £50-100 per pen (dose depending). But she's clearly been blindsighted by this...

CoverMeInMarmalade · 14/08/2025 15:40

...and yet again it's the UK licensed stock being flogged abroad for cheaper that is at the cause of this. That's what seems to have triggered this, or at least contributed to it.

That’s a lot more palatable than the estimated £450 for a 15mg pen that I’ve seen floating round online though
