Big price increases?

Anyone else seen this chatter about massive price increases announced for MJ (to pharmacies) in the last hour or so?

Very concerning as it looks like it could double the cost of some of the doses. I'll try to find the copy of the letter sent out...

Starting with this rude and aggressive response, @Weepixie and going on to scaremonger.

She was was quite right to query the source of the news which came from something picked up on Reddit.

But just so you know - you’re not going to change my mind on anything you’ve said so please excuse me for ignoring you from now on in.

ColinVsCuthbert · 14/08/2025 18:35

Urgh. I'm in the states and got very excited when Trump said he was making drug prices fairer. We pay more than $1000 for ozempic, $1600 for Mounjaro I think. Yours is substantially cheaper. I thought we were going to pay less... I was wrong. Just urgh.

DBatteryBand · 14/08/2025 18:35

I've just ordered 3 pens from Oushk...but I wonder what happens in three months when I want to order another pen. Will they recognise that I've had these pens, or think I need to completely re-register, but by that point my BMI might be below 30. Aaaargh. Fucking Trump!!!!!

Gertieblue · 14/08/2025 18:27

I am feeling the panic to stockpile, but realistically I don't know where from or what doses or how much. I am half a stone from goal weight and was hoping to taper down soon. I have two and a half 15mg in the fridge.

I don't really want a stockpile though - what I want is the safety net I thought I had when I woke up this morning to reorder when I needed to.

I've been in tears. I feel such a fool for thinking I could be slim for any amount of time, and no doubt all the nay-sayers will be gloating now that we will revert to where we were.

It's so shit. Solidarity everyone.

BabyCatFace · 14/08/2025 18:36

Sunseeker100 · 14/08/2025 18:25

So due to panic buying suppliers are already out of stock. This isn’t great for anyone who needs their next pen now is it. Just like toilet rolls during Covid.

It's not panic buying, it's stockpiling before price increases. No it's not good for people who need their next one but nobody is buying in panic against shortages, they are making calculated decisions to lay out more money now to save later.

DarlingHoldMyHand · 14/08/2025 18:33

The Wegovy patent will expire in 2032 and the Mounjaro in 2036, so hopefully the higher costs won't last a lifetime. I realise that's still a long time though for anyone who has been priced out.

A tablet version of MJ is due to hit the market next Spring. This will be much cheaper to manufacture and distribute etc. A lot of the cost of MJ is down to the manufacturing cost of the pen.

tobee · 14/08/2025 18:37

I'm wandering if pharmacies recommending looking at alternatives (such as Wegovy) is them giving themselves a bit of leverage with their negotiations with Lilly? Or am I just wishful thinking? 🤔

Sorry if you can’t read the news and realise that what is happening is going to have a massive impact.

I think everybody is aware of the gravity of the situation. But I also don't think that comments such as 'its all going to go tits up' (paraphrasing here) are going to help people.

I completely understand how you feel, I'm so upset by this and am looking at potentially having to give up the only thing that makes me feel normal. But right now, we all need to take a breath because our words do have an impact.

I mean this respectfully and compassionately - I really do hear you and I promise I understand how you feel.

Out of interest - is Mounjaro covered on your health insurance?

As long as you’re a longstanding customer I’m sure they’ll honour it. Just send them screenshots of your prescriptions from today. They’re good at messaging if you have any issues!

Arraminta · 14/08/2025 18:34

People need to stop panicking. There is no way that El Lilly is going to price a large percentage of its customer base out of the market. That would be commercial suicide.

I'm afraid that they have already confirmed that they are indeed raising the prices considerably in the UK market from 1st September.

Look at the context of my comment. I was saying in terms of drug prices generally.

ColinVsCuthbert · 14/08/2025 18:39

@Weepixie it is not unless extremely overweight/prediabetic etc. I need to lose c.20lbs which isn't considered enough, so if I get it I pay out of pocket.

Why will we revert? This is catastrophising. You can buy a pen at a dose or two above your current dose and spread them out. If you're at 15mg already you can reduce your dose and make an extra effort to calorie count and stick to your calories and make a pen last 6 weeks instead of 4/5. And you can wait 6 months to a year and see when new drugs come on the market at a cheaper price point. There is no need for anyone to regain all the weight we have lost.

I'm so sorry, I really am.

@Gertieblue its okay. Things will work out and you will be slim, forever hopefully, this is just a wee bump in the road and things it will look differently a few weeks from now.

This is a lovely message and just what I needed to hear. Thank you for your kindness, and support to everyone else feeling down today.

@Arraminta what tablet is that? Do you mean Orforglipron? That’s still in clinical trials and isn’t likely to be available by spring.

Actually I agree with @PresidentBarklett and they’re being very measured in their comments to you. You need to re-centre yourself.

They were never going to lower prices if they could just hike ours. Although I do think the amount you pay in the states is beyond ridiculous.
