Thank you for the snack suggestions everyone!!

My summary is: Did the 2nd 5mg injection yesterday so at the start of my 7th week
SW 330lbs (BMI 51.8)
CW 322.6lbs (BMI 50.6)
GW not sure yet, around 12st but where I can comfortably maintain
I have a history of an ED and disordered eating, family issues surrounding that as well and continued pressure. I have tried SW and WW so many times over the last 25 years, and I started off losing weight but I would get complacent and bored, and that started happening more and more quickly every time I started again. I found intuitive eating and some podcasts around that have really helped me heal my relationship with food a great deal. Still plenty to do, and itll be a continuous thing for me as any relationship is I suppose. I was offered oz by a consultant and jumped at the chance but had horrible side effects and the losses were minimal. Was then offered mj and here I am!

Edited for spelling

So lovely to see everyone's progress. I've just finished w3, started after recently being diagnosed with pcos and have had a referral made to infertility clinic. The earliest appt they could offer was March 26 and I dont want to show up only to have my bmi blamed for all the difficulties.

As with everyone else I think I've spent my life on various diets but always really struggled to get any meaningful weight off.

I'm experiencing some gastro side effects but they have calmed down quite a bit, have requested to stay on 2.5mg for my 2nd pen just to see if my tolerance can improve towards side effects.

SW - 306.6lb/21.9 stone/138.8kg
W3 - 290.2lb /20.10 stone /131.6kg

Slightly smaller loss this week but my period has just arrived so that may well have altered things a little.

PearlsPearl · 03/08/2025 08:07

Morning everyone from Belfast. Still can’t believe I made it here on the plane! Home later today, it just a flying visit to test out if I could cope with flying. We’re spending the day at the titanic museum though and it feels great to know I’ll be able to walk all round it.

I usually weigh Sundays but am skipping this week as I’ve eaten so much at the spa hotel and here. So will have a strong week next then weigh next Sunday as usual.

SW pre MJ - 22.3 stone
SW on MJ - 19.7
CW - 17.6

Just over 2 stone in 10 weeks woohoo 🥳

Kay2000 · 03/08/2025 09:45

@TheBeesTrees your post could have been written by me! I ended up only being able to stick to a diet for a few hours, not even days, and no understanding of why apart from my brain has been damaged by dieting (my mum put me on my first diet that I can remember aged 8 in 1976). My target is 12 st also, as I think/hope that’s maintainable. I’m currently 18st 9lb so a way to go and my weight loss has stalled after 6 months of a steady loss. Going to try one meal a day this week for a couple of days after advice from @TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne

@Elephantscantjump good luck, you have great motivation to keep you going before next March and enough time to lose weight. Be careful and use contraception, as you’re not supposed to get pregnant on MJ, and a lady I follow on YouTube has never been able to get pregnant but did after going on MJ. She did miscarry which was clearly devastating but she’s a doctor and said with the unknown affects on a foetus she was very worried, and now she knows her body can conceive, hopefully off MJ.

I'm after some advice from you lovely lot. I started MJ mid May. Early on, all went swimmingly with no real side effects. I'm now up to a 6.25 dose and for the last 3 weeks or so I've been getting much more abdominal pain that extends round to my back. Sometimes it's constipation and Dulcoease helps. I've not taken any additional supplements other that Vitamin D & B12 that I've taken for ages and Collagen powder that I started a few weeks ago. I've not been able to pin the pain down to particular foods, although I'm thinking I may need to start a food diary to help identify the culprit/s.

Yesterday lunchtime I went out for a meal. Had a halloumi salad, that I've had many times before, a slice of brown bread (I have wondered before whether bread is a trigger for my digestive grumbles) and 1 scoop of stem ginger ice cream. I was fine after but during the evening I had very painful cramping high up in my abdomen and my back. Buscopan eased it but it was quite intense. Today it's niggly pain. I'm reaching a point where I'm now overthinking everything I eat (and I really don't want to focus on food that much) and generally have low grade abdominal pain much of the time. Have others had similar on their journeys and found anything that helps, a supplement, perhaps? I generally have an actimel a day and it seems worse when I forget this, and i know I'm probability not drinking as much as I should, must try to remember this. Any ideas would be appreciated as, whilst it's not horrendous, it is starting to get me down.

Autumnflowers2 · 03/08/2025 11:52

Can I just say
Maybe for people to remember,
that when they are talking about their starting weight ,in a negative way
..saying how fat they looked at that size ,and how they resembled XYZ ..(but something very fat ..)
That is some people's weight now .people who have worked hard to get to that weight
I have worked so hard to loose 7 stone and get to a size 22.
To then hear that is someones staring weight and then read the negatives about how dreadful they looked at that weight and how they resembled something so awfully fat ..well it's upsetting .
That's fine ,size 22 or whatever being someone's starting weight
We all have to start somewhere
But please ,let's stop with the how dreadfully fat I was at size XYZ talk
Coz you know some of us started at very high weights ,and for me it feels amazing to be a size 22

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 03/08/2025 12:43

@Quitepossibly

With regard to your abdominal pain, although it isn't severe and is currently intermittent, I would talk to your provider about it, and definitely omit your next dose until you do.

Mounjaro has been associated with pancreatitis in a small number of patients. This can be chronic or acute.

Have a look at this link. It's from the Voy website. I'm not trying to scare you but I think you need medical advice before continuing, in case you need treatment.

@Autumnflowers2 I apologise - I worded my comment very poorly. I've requested it be deleted as reading back I can see I was very unkind and didn't really think before posting so I appreciate you pointing this out.

I (like many others I'm sure) am far more critical of myself than I would be of anyone else. I have certainly never looked at anyone of any size and thought the things I think about myself!

Autumnflowers2 · 03/08/2025 12:49

Ah
I was trying to be delicate and not make it obvious what I was referring to .
No worries xxx

Autumnflowers2 · 03/08/2025 12:58

Happy to ask for my comment to be deleted if that is best ?

TragicMuse · 03/08/2025 13:06

Here is my progress…

January 2025 I was 19st 4lbs. It’s the heaviest I’ve ever been but had pretty much stabilised after decades of dieting. SW at least 3 times, South Beach, the crazy eggs one, the bonkers Harcombe diet, Atkins, a truly nuts colour-based one (today only Green food, tomorrow only yellow), low fat, no fat, low carb, Rosemary Conley. One memorable summer in the mid-80s my friend and I went to her parents’ holiday house and ate only apples and one low calorie meal a day. There was a lot of sieved cottage cheese. I still have the recipe books!

Weirdly, the one I never did was WW!

Bit of chub as an 8-9 yo kid, looking back it wasn’t that much really. And probably pre-emptied an upward growth spurt.

Spent the vast majority of my youth being teased and bullied for my weight.

I’ve yo-yo’d like a good ‘un. Haven’t we all…

One of my friends said she was on MJ, and was doing really well (we’re not near each other so we don’t meet up often). She is like me, has similar diet/body history. And it just got into my brain and wouldn’t let go.

I started eating a bit better, went to my next diabetes appointment, discussed it with my nurse, and she said that she thought it was brilliant and had good success with her patients but because I was managing my sugars so well she couldn’t. Damn not eating the Christmas cake!! She gave me loads of advice, told me to get my eyes screened first and that she would give it to me if she could.

So I havered a bit and hummed and hah-ed and then I decided to try.

I started MJ at 18st 11.5lbs on 1 March 2025. I did one at 2.5mg, then went to 5mg for next two pens, took the second pen’s 5th dose at 6.75mg and am now on my 3rd 7mg.

It’s been 23.5 weeks and today I am 15st 7.5lbs. I don’t know what my final target is. At the moment I’m happy going down each stone marker. I do have a fairly small/narrow frame and I’d like to see that. But I have always had a decent rack and I don’t want to look ridiculous!

I seem to average around half a stone a month which is good.

My main side effects have been some nausea which comes and goes but is manageable, and a really bad dry mouth at the start. That’s gone!

My life is changed. Utterly. My joints are less painful. My physical ability is improving.

I was a 24/26. I’m now a 20, or an 18 on a good day from some brands. I’d try on 18s but be realistic they might not fit. Yet.

But they will. I know they will.

afaloren · 03/08/2025 13:09

I think it might be good to leave it up @Autumnflowers2 so new posters can see it. It happens all the time on monthly threads which is one of the reasons people come here!

No offence meant to @TidyWasp we’re all just doing our best.

I wonder when my wedding ring set will fit again. I’m more upset about that than any item of clothing. I’ve got my engagement ring, wedding ring, and eternity ring, and they live in a little dish in my bedside drawer waiting for their time to shine! They weren’t expensive but they’re priceless to me. DH’s ring has never come off since the day we wed I don’t think!

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 03/08/2025 13:20

I think that @Autumnflowers2 makes a good point with regard to how we describe ourselves in our pre-MJ pictures.

If we on this thread consider the reasons why we feel more comfortable on this thread, as opposed to the monthly threads, the main one, I think, is being upset when those who start at 12 stone (for example) make comments about how awful they look at that weight.

They say things about being unable to get out of chairs because they're so very fat. For us, getting down to 12 stone is a joyous dream. It's a goal weight for a lot of us.

I do think there's a difference between someone of 12 stone saying they look ghastly at that weight, and someone of 24 stone saying it, but I imagine that the effect on people reading it is pretty much the same.

We on this thread are acutely aware of the fact that we're starting off at BMIs of around 50 (and many of us have started MJ at higher BMIs than this).

We've been a kind and supportive thread apart from that weird troll .

So yes, let's be careful not to cause distress or sadness to anyone on here. I'm sure it's inadvertent because none of us would want to do that.

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 03/08/2025 13:21

Autumnflowers2 · 03/08/2025 12:58

Happy to ask for my comment to be deleted if that is best ?

Well I think you made a good point, so personally, I think your comment ought to remain.

I'm as guilty as anyone, going on about my fat knees!

TidyWasp · 03/08/2025 13:34

Thanks all for the very good points that I absolutely should already be aware of! What I was (awfully) trying to say is that there was a particularly unflattering mid laugh photo that made me realise that despite what I tried telling myself; eating crap 24/7 and doing nothing for my health was making me look dreadful. Less about my size and more about the fact my skin and hair were dreadful, my clothes didn't fit properly, and I looked unwell.

I am grateful for starting this journey in those respects as well - I haven't lost any dress sizes but am eating better foods, drinking more water and looking after my skin properly which has already made me look and feel miles better than I did a few months back.

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 03/08/2025 13:36

I wonder when my wedding ring set will fit again. I’m more upset about that than any item of clothing. I’ve got my engagement ring, wedding ring, and eternity ring, and they live in a little dish in my bedside drawer waiting for their time to shine!

Mine are all off and waiting to shine again, too - because they're all too big now!

It's driving me mad, but I'm wearing a plain silver band instead of my wedding ring, with a succession of dress rings which fit, but which are not my gorgeous diamond engagement ring.

So that is the downside of losing almost 8st.
🤣

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 03/08/2025 13:40

@TidyWasp please, please don't feel bad.

After I started MJ I saw a picture of myself in a group of people which had been put on our village FB page.

Let's just say that I was deeply distressed. Not that the image was on FB (because permission had been sought and given by me and the whole group) but because I looked very different to how I thought I looked.

MontysMissus · 03/08/2025 13:41

Hi everyone, this may seem a bit of a weird question, but I'm still a relative newb on Day 12 of 2.5mg....
Has, or did, anyone have trouble distinguishing between "food noise", genuine hunger or digestive issues?
Having got myself to where I am, I am woefully poor at knowing the cues from my own body and I doubt I've been genuinely hungry in a long time! So when my tummy grumbles or feels a bit vacuous, I'm really confused as to whether it needs filling or is already full but gassy!
Currently sticking to 1200 to 1400 calories per day and certainly not ravenous, which is good.
Thanks.

I can’t wait for that to happen to me Grin

Are your rings of such a design that they can be resized?

OvertiredandConfused · 03/08/2025 13:44

Hello everyone

We’re just driving back to catch the ferry home from 2 1/2 weeks in France. I have weighed while I’ve been away and I have actually managed to lose 3.5lbs which I didn’t expect at all. That said, I haven’t weighed for a couple of days so it could be slightly different when I get back into my normal routine and scales!

SW (2nd February) - 21st 10lbs / BMI 45
CW - 17st 1lb / BMI 35.4

Not sure on my goal but probably between 11st and 12st. That’ll be a size 12-14 for me as I’m 5’10”. So I’m probably about halfway.

I did 1 month on 2.5mg, 1 month on 5mg, 3 months on 7.5mg and now on my second month of 10mg.

I have MS and use a wheelchair so exercise is pretty much out of the question which I find really frustrating.

Really appreciate the support and advice here

@TragicMuse crikey! That must have been terrifying, I don’t know what I’d do if I lost my singing voice, thank god for drugs and hard work! I sang 1st sop in choir but choir politics got a bit frustrating and petty and we were run by a dictator, 50% of us left! Singing is good for the soul

Was it the Highgate Choral Society?
🤣🤣

I left that when we were asked to leave monetary donations one week, and most people were sticking £50 notes on the plate.

At the time, I'd come out of a very long hospital stay, and was getting £78 a week in benefits.

I walked past that plate in dismay and yes, guilt.

Hello. Can I ask if anyone thinks weight loss jabs might work if a person had a failed bariatric surgery please?

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 03/08/2025 13:49

afaloren · 03/08/2025 13:44

I can’t wait for that to happen to me Grin

Are your rings of such a design that they can be resized?

Yes, thankfully.
I've got some other rings which don't fit, too.
I'll take them all to the shop to be sent off, in one go.
There's no jewellery shop near here (we live in a tiny village in Argyll) but there's a shop which sends rings away to Glasgow for resizing.

I might not send them all at once. It might be a bit expensive.

Hello! I can't see why MJ wouldn't work after someone has had bariatric surgery.

You should discuss this with your doctor, though. They're much better placed to advise you. And do please join us if you go ahead with the MJ.

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 03/08/2025 13:53

@TragicMuse I think you must also be somewhere in Scotland, as you used the word "havered".
