Hi everyone, thanks for the new thread. Great to hear all your stories. I'm on Week 2, Day 4 of 2.5mg and it seems to be working. Yesterday I nearly forgot to eat. Sounds great, but it worries me. I know at 23st 3, I'm not at risk of wasting away but I'm very mindful of getting obsessive about all this behaviour. Nearly 10 years ago I lost 12 st (most of which has returned) with Cambridge Weight Plan and I know then it occupied nearly my every waking thought and it very much defined me. When I got to goal weight, I was lost and didn't know where to go. So I gave up and the weight came back.
I know I have an addictive, compulsive nature and would love advice on how any of you have handled that side of things, assuming you have. I'm currently counting calories via MyFitnessPal.
Hope that makes sense

Fffreeeeezing · 02/08/2025 14:23

yay new thread!

I started middle of March at 25st 9 (BMI 59.7). Just finished week 20 at 21st 3 (BMI 49.4) total loss of 4st 6lb so far.

I hadn’t weighed in years pre MJ (too scared) but looking back through old hospital letters and random entries on Apple Health looks like the lowest weight recorded in the last decade for me was 125kg/277lb so just 20lb to get to that low point. That low point was in August 2020 so first lockdown and I was on the shielding list from day 1 (due to an auto immune condition I had) so I had less easy access to food (I live on my own) and walked for miles and miles every night.
Prior to that I obviously did the obligatory Lighter Life/Cambridge diet in the late 2000s and lost about 7 ish stone (can’t remember the exact amount) but I never got into the ‘just overweight’ BMI ie under 30 and I didn’t care, I was a size 12 and that was enough and would be this time as well!

Just to confirm there were obviously a million other diets at some point I’ve tried, Atkins, Keto, Slimming World etc (never tried WW though, assume I would have also failed on that one). Slimming World was the worst though, lost hardly anything despite sticking to it religiously, I swear it’s the GLP hormone stuff that’s making MJ work for me rather than the appetite suppressing.

Next mini goals are 5st loss (8lb to go) and to get under 20st (18lbs to go)

@TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne, I often say I wished I lived my life like a musical 😂. I’m choirless at the moment, and 90% of the choirs near me all sing with backing tracks, I prefer unaccompanied. I also sing with two other women in a small folk/harmony group, we get occasional bookings and I sing in another band, modern type folky inspired stuff. I just love singing, and with the weight loss my confidence has just soared! I was asked to sing at an event last night and I didn’t think twice about saying yes.
That sounds wonderful and must be very rewarding (and emotional?), there is a beautiful song that we sing called ‘what can a song do for you’ originally written by Molly Drake and covered by the Unthanks (and us) that is very poignant, and says about how hearing specific music can just take you back and rekindle memories that where once buried ❤️

PearlsPearl · 02/08/2025 15:29

LOSERS 💖 guess what?

I’m sat on the plane and didn’t need an extender belt 😭 turns out losing nearly 5 stone does make a difference.

So happy, trying not to cry.

I need to come up with a before bed snack. Ive realised I need to have food in my tummy when I go to bed, but I tend to turn to crisps/chocolate. I dont want something I need to prepare too much, does anyone else have an evening snack that also helps with nutrition?

SilenceInside · 02/08/2025 15:52

@PearlsPearl whoo hoo! Hooray! That’s a brilliant NSV!

I'm snacking on hard boiled eggs and mackerel strips. A greek youghurt would also be nice.

Iwouldratherbesinging · 02/08/2025 16:15

My quick summary
overweight/obese all my life, highest weight around 21/22 stone - stopped weighing after 21 stone. Managed to lose 2.5 stone (ish)by 5:2 fasting (which I still do) and then started Mounjaro in October 2024 at 19.2 as I’d stopped losing by fasting and only managing to maintain.

I started and like many say, I felt overwhelmed at the long journey I had ahead of me, but I’ve hit all my generously set goals and that long journey isn’t so bad after all as there are so many hidden surprises along the way that make it so worthwhile and exciting!

I had a sneaky stand on the scales and weighed 12 stone 13 this morning, that is a weight I don’t remember ever being! It’s not official until Tuesday weigh in though.

To all the lovely new joiners, you’ve got this! It’s a journey of discovery, sometimes frustration but definitely a downward journey and a miraculous one at that!

Iwouldratherbesinging · 02/08/2025 16:16

Oh @PearlsPearl thats amazing! So happy for you 🥹

If I’m hungry before bed, my go to is a chopped apple with a desert spoon of peanut butter. Sometimes, if I haven’t finished my breakfast, which is usually full fat Greek yogurt, blueberries, strawberries and chopped grapes with a smidge of honey, I’ll save it for finishing in the evening.

Janie934 · 02/08/2025 16:30

I started July 2024 at 26 stone 9 pounds, last week I hit the milestone of sub 20 stone (just!) weighing 19 stone 13.8 pounds....and learnt my scales go to .1 of a pound as they didn't when the number started with a 20!

That's totally loss to date of 6 stone 9.2 pounds in a smidge over a year. And probably the longest I've ever stuck to a diet.

Next target is bmi of under 40 - only 1 stone 8.8 pounds to go. I go on holiday in September, dont think i'll make it by then but aiming to get as close as I can.

Oh and a few weeks ago I had the best nsv to date when the dressing gown at the spa actually closed accross the middle!

TragicMuse · 02/08/2025 17:30

I’m also a singer @TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne and @Iwouldratherbesinging.

I lost my voice for a few years through damage caused by acid reflux, but after a lot of hard work (and a metric fucktonne of drugs!) it’s back. Not the same, and probably never will be, I’m not a high soprano any longer! But singing is like my daemon and I was completely bereft without it.

SilenceInside · 02/08/2025 17:45

My summary for the new thread…

Started Mounjaro at the beginning of July 2024. Was 22st exactly when I decided to start Mounjaro, and 21st 12lbs or 139kg when I did my first injection. I’m on week 56 now I think, and weighed in on Friday at 12st 6lbs, or 79.1kg. So that’s a 9st 4lbs loss whilst on Mounjaro, so far. My BMI has gone from 50 to 28, clothes size from 24 plus to 14/16. I’m on 10mg at the moment, have been on that dose for a couple of months or so, having spent a long time on 7.5mg.

My original target weight was 10st 4lbs, my current interim target is 11st 7lbs. Once I get to 11st 7lbs then I might reconsider what my final target is. I never thought I’d be able to get anywhere near 10st but now I think I might be aiming for 9st something. Crazy to think that’s even a possibility now.

Iwouldratherbesinging · 02/08/2025 18:10

@TragicMuse crikey! That must have been terrifying, I don’t know what I’d do if I lost my singing voice, thank god for drugs and hard work! I sang 1st sop in choir but choir politics got a bit frustrating and petty and we were run by a dictator, 50% of us left! Singing is good for the soul

I always sang 2nd Alto but now I'm 69 my range is lower.

I'd never be able to sing Alto in a choral society nowadays, but could manage the Tenor line. Not that I live anywhere near any choral societies now.

I'm three hours away from Glasgow.

Oh well, the scenery and peace here are worth it. I went back to London a fortnight ago and was surprised at how much the noise affected me. I was born and brought up in London so I knew what it would be like, but it was such a contrast to living in a little village.

TorturedParentsDepartment · 02/08/2025 19:05

Popping in - I'm shit at keeping up with threads. Started in November 2024 at over 24 stone and a size 28/30... now am almost bang on 19stone (in a bit of a plateau at the moment but I try to view them as a chance for my skin to catch up a bit) and in a size 20/22. About to go up to 10mg to try to shift the plateaus cos I've had a couple since I hit the 5stone lost mark.

Doggymummar · 02/08/2025 20:05

My dates will probably be a bit off as I have a terrible memory

Around May 2022 I was 270lb and practically a hermit as I was too embarrassed to go out. Lost all my friends as they stopped calling.

Started losing weight with Fast 800 Lighter Life etc and lost 30lbs in a year

May 23 started on Ryselbus at 242 lb, bmi 42. Lost weight fast started to lose hair got really sick and stopped in about Jan 2024 due to finances and sickness gained a stone in three months. Started again around May 24 but thus time it didn't work. Stopped in July. Took a break and started on MJ in September at 202lb. Lowered doses didn't work for me and it wasn't until Christmas when I went to 15mg that I started to lose. Now at 160lb so it's slow bur steady progress.

So 110lb down now, BMI is 27 and I am down from a 22-24 to a 10-12 smaller in some brands. I got stopped in the street today by a stranger who loved my denim jacket. Job hunting as was made redundant last week and I feel heaps more confident than two years ago when I was last looking for work. I might even be brave enough to not work from home this time.

My summary is started Jan this year at 22 stones, and have lost 3st 6lb so far but it’s slowed right down, almost stopped. I’m on 7.5 but don’t want to increase dose because of side effects (currently losing lots of hair). I’m in loads of pain currently due to a knackered back so can’t do much exercise. So I’m feeling a bit down currently. Saying that, however, I’ve gone from a size 28 to a 24 and am feeling a lot better health and mobility wise, and my confidence is higher. But I’m worried this is as much as I’m going to achieve. I’m having a thyroid test on Monday as it’s enlarged and not sure if that why I’m apparently going bald (!), or if it’s the MJ. I think I need to double down and count calories, even though I rebel against that, too many decades of failed dieting. Or maybe I should try intermittent fasting. Not sure what to do.

Intermittent fasting has saved me.

Even if you don't want to do it every day, you can decide to do it for three or four days in a row.

That has got me out of a few plateaus.

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 02/08/2025 22:54

Also @Kay2000 have a think about OMAD.

I do it twice a week.

I don't know how old you are (I'm 69) but at my age, the metabolism is slower.

And that's despite my walking a lot faster these days.

I’m 57 so getting old - well my body definitely is! How big a meal do you have? And nothing else all day?

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 02/08/2025 23:56

Yay new thread. It's so inspiring to read where everyone's at. I'm curled up in a tent but I'm still awake and there's signal!

My heaviest weight (2023) 22st11 + (I didn't weigh) Bmi 51.3
SW Jan 21st 11 (138.2). Bmi 49.
CW 16st 13 (107.4) Bmi 38.1
Next goal bmi 35 - 15st6
GW below 25 bmi 11st2 (70.6)

I'm nearly 7 months in and have nearly lost 5stone. The last few weeks it's felt like weight loss has really slowed though (I'm not sure why - I kept expecting a woosh) so thinking about going up to 10mg for my next pen to see if it helps. It's interesting a few people mention plateauing.

Is anyone worried they'll need to eat so little calories to maintain when they get their that their metabolism will be broken??

Its so strange 5 stone is a huge amount but I'm so aware how far I need to go. So many people on normal threads would be tiny after losing 5stone! I'm still nervous of running out of doses or ending up eating too little or not getting enough nutrition. I'm not currently worried about losing too fast as Ive slowed down but I was worried about that initially. It's certainly a mental battle as well as a physical one isn't it.

I've dropped clothing sizes but I'm still incredibly round around middle. Im aware I might be one of those people with considerable skin left around my middle and arms and legs which I'm struggling with but would rather that than how I was. I hope I can wear jeans/trousers again though and my round barrel goes enough to make clothes look okay.

As for camping. I've been for a walk!! And I can walk to the loos with ease and I could help set up camp. I am such a different person to a year ago. 😁.

Love having all the people on this thread to share the journey with.

What I do is eat between 4.30pm and 6.30pm. Just a normal meal. Followed by fruit and an ice cream.

I don't eat other than at those times, but I drink tea, with milk and sugar, throughout the day.
