Mounjaro July 2025 Starters

1000 replies

daisydreamies · 27/06/2025 14:17

Please let me know if there's already a thread for this! I did have a look and couldn't find anything.

I've just been approved for Mounjaro from Asda. I've been trying to lose weight for seven years. I've tried calorie counting, intermittent fasting, Slimfast, Weight Watchers (it didn't work for me, I was so hungry all the time and ended up overeating so I never lost), and Slimming World (I enjoyed it, but the weight loss for me was too slow so I ended up stopping as it's so expensive). The most successful diet I've been on was when I was breastfeeding my son, but the weight came back on when I stopped. I'm still lighter than I was pre-pregnancy, but this weight is not shifting or if it does it's so slow and I lose the motivation. I tried most for about 4-6 months (except WW, I gave that up after 2).

I can't exercise as I have a chronic illness, so I'm often in pain from just existing and exercise just cripples me. I think I have PCOS too, which might be why I'm struggling so much to shift the weight with diet alone.

My goal is to lose weight with Mounjaro hopefully, and then follow a Slimming World style diet after (which I still kind of follow now, just not as strict). I've managed to maintain my current weight for a year so I'm pretty confident I can maintain. I've also never tried to lose weight with other people, so I'm hoping this also helps.

sorry for all the questions 🤦‍♀️

AbitSceptical · 30/06/2025 20:48

Questions - my first kit is due to arrive tomorrow… but I’m going on holiday in three weeks. Will I be able to get the new pack before then?

also, has anyone here done any research into or seen other threads on the pancreatitis risk?

AirborneElephant · 30/06/2025 20:52

Hi KirstyLou. You may eventually be eligible on the NHS, but the rollout is very slow to avoid overwhelming resources so you would likely be waiting a long time.

So if you’re willing to pay then yes, you will do an online consultation, probably have a video ID and weight confirmation call, pay, and then the private doctor will write the prescription and the pen will be mailed to you. It can be very quick, although there’s a bit of a backlog on the consultation from some providers.

Muppies65 · 30/06/2025 21:14

Managed to summon up courage and did the jab , so far feel ok bit shocked I'm already not that hungry but it could just be the hot weather🤣

EvelynSalt · 30/06/2025 21:15

Hi all, I’m a fellow very-end-of-June starter so joining this thread.

I have a lot to lose! I took my first jab last Friday and had pretty full on tiredness and faint nausea for a day or so. Otherwise no negative side effects.

Appetite suppression kicked in for me by Saturday morning, but it’s definitely wearing off today. Reading up, that’s apparently quite normal until your body retains a steady balance of the medication. So trying not to feel too disheartened!

We are the same start weight! I jabbed last Wednesday. I'm only 5ft 1in though 🤣

I don’t know about the second pack that quickly abitsceptial, probably best to contact your provider.

Yes, I’ve researched the pancreatitis issue. It is a known side effect, sited as “uncommon” on the sheet. I’m very glad they are studying it, it shows that our yellow card scheme is working well. At the moment I haven’t seen any evidence that the level of incidence is higher than would be expected given how many people are now taking WLIs, but it is something I will be keeping an eye on. Pancreatitis can be caused by gallstones, and gallstones can be caused by rapid weight loss. To keep yourself as safe as possible it’s best to target a steady loss and make sure you are eating an adequate healthy diet. And if you have any symptoms of gallstones or pancreatitis see a doctor immediately.

Can I join? Waiting anxiously for pen to arrive in post and hoping to be a first week of July starter. Then am told I have to go into GP’s surgery to get nurse to show me how to inject. I wonder if this is really necessary as I am not near the GP at all. Anyway, good luck to all! Really hoping for few gastro symptomatic as I have a weak stomach.

SW 85 kg
GW 65 kg

I did my first injection this evening and found it very straight forward. The instructions are very clear and it's easy to do. I wouldn't think you would need a GP visit.

Ah! How are you feeling so far? I’m hoping that more to lose means it drops off quickly for a bit…albeit steadily and safely!

CookieQueen1986 · 30/06/2025 22:55

Hello everyone,
I finally plucked up the courage of ordering my first 2.5mg pen from Lloyds Pharmacy and had confirmation today that it has been prescribed and will be delivered shortly.
I am almost 40 and it’s quite depressing to think that I’ve been obsessing about food and weight for as long as I can remember. I’ve always felt “fat” even when I was a teenager and in my twenties, although looking back at photos I was only a size 12 but compared to all my friends who were teeny tiny size 8s, I felt huge.
Since having my first baby 4 years ago, I’ve put on about 3 stone and haven’t been able to shift it. It’s now been a year since my second (and last baby) and I’m so uncomfortable in my own skin, I don’t even recognise photos of myself any more. Being obese in this heatwave also isn’t helping!!!

Im not naive to think that mounjaro is going to be a cure all but I’m so hoping it will help to mute the food noise which has been a constant in my life for as long as I can remember.

im excited to start but also nervous, particularly of the recent reports of pancreas related issues linked to weight loss jabs. But I really feel like if I don’t take control now, I never will.

sorry for the rant!! It’s good to share on here and I look forward to hearing about everyone’s experiences xxx

Thanks WhereIsSpot! Best of luck, hopefully you’ve very few or no side effects.

WhereIsSpot · 30/06/2025 23:42

Feeling ok so far. Hopefully that will continue. Its luck of the draw on the side effects. I'm off the mind if I do get them they will pass eventually and it will all be worth it.

ThatMerryLemonSquid · 01/07/2025 06:58

Hi all. 1st post ever
I did my first jab Sunday evening so technically June starter. Do you guys mind if I join. The jab was ok mostly painless, it took me a while to actually do it as I’m needle phobic

background: used to be a bit of a gym bunny a few years ago especially during the pandemic. but have since been diagnosed with PCOS and depression so I gained almost 40kg in the last 3 years

SW 95kg
GW 65kg

The only side effects I’m feeling are excessive thrist - though I don’t know if that counts

crazycadetmum · 01/07/2025 07:03

Took my first jab Sunday.. no hunger at all yesterday snd struggled to eat over 1200 calories! I lost 2 1/2 stone since sept but been stuck now for last 2 months so decided to give this a go.
Current weight 15st
Goal weight 13st

Have several friends who have done well on monjura so hoping this works.

CarbyB · 01/07/2025 07:04

Hi everyone, today is day three. Had my first jab on Saturday night. My suppression is huge, I’m eating but I have no interest in snacking and ultimately binging. I would wake in the night and eat and go back to sleep with no recollection of it in the morning; just empty packets beside my bed — this hasn’t happened! My goal is to eat 1750 calories a day, as I will be exercising a lot, with high protein but I just about managed 1500 yesterday. I notice at night time I feel nauseous and bloated.

Emas82 · 01/07/2025 07:25

I'm doing really good! Pretty much from when I took my jab I haven't felt any hunger (a tiny rumble yesterday morning). Food noise has definitely quietened, haven't had any cravings.
I'm going to try and wait until 4 weeks before I weigh myself. Years and years of dieting and becoming obsessed with the number on the scales, I remember doing slimming world and the day before weigh day if I hadn't lost I'd almost starve myself just to see something on the scales the next day 🤦
I'm definitely staying under my calorie deficit, and trying to get enough protein and fibre. Protein is easy enough, fibre is so hard! I don't like beans or pulses which are a good source. Not having any toilet problems though so I think I'm ok for now!

Hi @ThatMerryLemonSquid . Well done for getting over the needle phobia and doing it. It gets much easier after the first💕.

i had a very dry mouth after the first injection, almost like what I’ve had after anaesthetic. I kept sipping iced water and it went away after the first day.

daisydreamies · 01/07/2025 09:35

I don’t know why, but I thought I’d weigh myself this morning. I’ve lost another 1kg, totalling at 3.5kg (7lbs!?!). I use kg now as I don’t really understand it compared to stones and pounds if that makes sense? 80kg affects me less than reading 13 stone

I do know that the weight loss will slow down and it’s most likely just water weight at this point (or due to how many toilet trips I had yesterday, I’ve never done so many poos in my life before haha), but it has filled me with so much confidence in this working. I’d eat the same amount on a diet as I have been post-jab and wouldn’t lose any weight which would kill all and any motivation I had to stick to the diets.

I only had a headache for the first day, and an upset stomach yesterday that slowly went away as the day went and I feel fine today. I did have a meal replacement shake for breakfast and I could just about finish it. I’m feeling full now. Before I’d finish it and not feel satisfied.

I am probably going to hide the scales so I don’t get tempted to weigh myself every day. I haven’t put them back since I got them out to take a picture for the application process.

I’m so pleased (and shocked) that it’s working. I was so worried it wouldn’t work for me as this is my final attempt at losing weight (I’m far too stingy to fork out for surgery).

Can I join too please? My first pen is on its way 😱. Slightly concerned about side effects, but we'll see. Overexcited to be starting on this journey after fighting my weight for most of my life, and hoping it doesn't turn out to be just another failure. Hopefully, with each others support we can do it! X

SeaRoom · 01/07/2025 11:39

Hello all, could I join?

Just had my first dose. The needle did not work on the priming dose which made me panicky but I stopped and read online that this sometimes happens. Second needle worked perfectly.

But.... I think I am a real twit because the needle didn't hurt the first time and I couldn't see a puncture mark so I did it again and felt a slight sting. Am now worried I have injected a double dose as both look like punctures now. 😧Feel like an idiot - has anyone done anything similar?

SilenceInside · 01/07/2025 12:06

@SeaRoom when you say you "did it again" what do you mean? Do you mean you twisted the pen out to the 1 position for a second time, and then injected by pressing the end of the pen all the way down again?

With your health issues you might be able to get it prescribed by your GP. It wouldn't hurt to ask, it's not cheap! X

Yes, I twisted to one again because I didn't think it had gone in. It didn't sting the first time.

I am drinking tons of water...

@SeaRoom So, yes you have done a double dose. If the needle wasn't in your body, the liquid from the pen when you pressed the plunger down the first time would have squirted all over you and you'd have seen the liquid.

Often the needle doesn't sting at all because it's so fine and short - I usually don't feel it when I inject. I rely on a visual check to make sure the needle is in me correctly before pressing the pen down.

You might want to contact your pharmacy and ask them for advice on how to manage side effects from an accidental double dose.
