Mounjaro July 2025 Starters

daisydreamies · 27/06/2025 14:17

Please let me know if there's already a thread for this! I did have a look and couldn't find anything.

I've just been approved for Mounjaro from Asda. I've been trying to lose weight for seven years. I've tried calorie counting, intermittent fasting, Slimfast, Weight Watchers (it didn't work for me, I was so hungry all the time and ended up overeating so I never lost), and Slimming World (I enjoyed it, but the weight loss for me was too slow so I ended up stopping as it's so expensive). The most successful diet I've been on was when I was breastfeeding my son, but the weight came back on when I stopped. I'm still lighter than I was pre-pregnancy, but this weight is not shifting or if it does it's so slow and I lose the motivation. I tried most for about 4-6 months (except WW, I gave that up after 2).

I can't exercise as I have a chronic illness, so I'm often in pain from just existing and exercise just cripples me. I think I have PCOS too, which might be why I'm struggling so much to shift the weight with diet alone.

My goal is to lose weight with Mounjaro hopefully, and then follow a Slimming World style diet after (which I still kind of follow now, just not as strict). I've managed to maintain my current weight for a year so I'm pretty confident I can maintain. I've also never tried to lose weight with other people, so I'm hoping this also helps.

It looks like there are three doses left. So hopefully a false alarm and just the needle without dose in first jab. I'm normally super calm and organised. Sorry to sound like a twit.

SilenceInside · 01/07/2025 12:39

@SeaRoom can you post a picture of your pen? There is enough medication remaining after doing the 4 doses to look like another dose. What position is the grey plunger inside the glass vial part?

SeaRoom · 01/07/2025 12:43

The grey plunger is at the bottom of the three lines. So I think you're right.😕

SilenceInside · 01/07/2025 12:47

Yes, that's where it is after 2 doses.

The medication will peak in your system in around 8 to 72 hours from injecting, so that's when you may find side effects to be at their peak. It then reduces from that point, until after 5 days half of it is gone from your system. Your pharmacy may advise you on whether you should do your next dose as planned, or whether to delay it.

SeaRoom · 01/07/2025 12:48

Thank you - really appreciate your help. What an absolute idiot I am. Lesson learned.

Em85kk · 01/07/2025 13:22

I feel like since taking 1st one I feel more obsessed by my weight. 92kg and I keep standing on the scales like it’s going to have changed magically in 2 hours 🤯 I wish I was chill.

daisydreamies · 01/07/2025 09:35

I don’t know why, but I thought I’d weigh myself this morning. I’ve lost another 1kg, totalling at 3.5kg (7lbs!?!). I use kg now as I don’t really understand it compared to stones and pounds if that makes sense? 80kg affects me less than reading 13 stone

I do know that the weight loss will slow down and it’s most likely just water weight at this point (or due to how many toilet trips I had yesterday, I’ve never done so many poos in my life before haha), but it has filled me with so much confidence in this working. I’d eat the same amount on a diet as I have been post-jab and wouldn’t lose any weight which would kill all and any motivation I had to stick to the diets.

I only had a headache for the first day, and an upset stomach yesterday that slowly went away as the day went and I feel fine today. I did have a meal replacement shake for breakfast and I could just about finish it. I’m feeling full now. Before I’d finish it and not feel satisfied.

I am probably going to hide the scales so I don’t get tempted to weigh myself every day. I haven’t put them back since I got them out to take a picture for the application process.

I’m so pleased (and shocked) that it’s working. I was so worried it wouldn’t work for me as this is my final attempt at losing weight (I’m far too stingy to fork out for surgery).

I also find kg easier to get my head around…

I think I’ll try to weigh in weekly. In the past I’ve weighed myself daily and I ended up feeling bit burnt out by it.

There's an extra shit in each one though, so 5 in total not 4.

Shot!! Sorry 😂

SilenceInside · 01/07/2025 14:01

@Bunnie22 it's not an extra shot, it's the remaining leftover medication that cannot be accessed by the normal operation of the pen. You either have to try to break the mechanism to force the pen to turn again (doesn't always work), or buy separate 1ml syringes and extract the remaining medication manually. If you do that, you need to be absolutely clear on your maths and units to understand the amount of medication you extract and what dose that would represent. Not something that the manufacturer or pharmacies would support you doing, although plenty of people do it.

Yes, thanks. I know that. I was trying to help SeaRoom work out how many doses she has left

SilenceInside · 01/07/2025 15:02

Yes, in order to work out how many doses she’d taken it’s important to understand there are 4 normal doses, and the remaining liquid is not one of those 4 doses. Thankfully SeaRoom now knows she took two doses and has inadvertently taken 5mg.

Lozzie118 · 01/07/2025 15:07

Can I join please, my first pen has arrived today, quite nervous in one way but can't wait to get going really

WhereIsSpot · 01/07/2025 15:08

All still good here. No sign of side effects so far. Have breakfast and lunch so far. No picking but I don't have anything nice in the house and it's usually evenings where I go to town on eating crap.

Its great that we have a fine gang of people here. Its brilliant to habe the support. I have only told 1 person in real life as they are on it too. I feel people might be a bit judgey about it so it's easier to keep quiet and have the online support here.

Aiming to weigh muself once a week. Will do it Monday mornings which is jab day. I have a scales that gives you loads of measurements so it will be interesting to see how body fat, visceral fat etc. change along the journey.

Lozzie118 · 01/07/2025 15:19

Can I ask - probably a silly question, who is keeping it in the fridge or not??

I am, my house gets so hot in the summer that it’s not worth the risk of it going bad

I’m struggling a little today. Felt fine this morning, went swimming and walked home. Made myself a protein drink and salad for lunch, but could only eat half the salad and felt really sick and bloated. I laid down for half an hour which made it worse, then did 30mins of really slow, slow walking on the treadmill which did help. Feeling a bit better now but still no great.

Any ideas what triggered this? My only thought is that I drank about 1.5l water quite quickly (1l on way home from swimming then .5l protein drink), then tried to eat. I wasn’t expecting stomach emptying to be delayed just for water, but maybe it is or maybe the fact that I added the protein?

CarbyB · 01/07/2025 15:51

Just wondering, I am planning to use the ‘golden dose’, is anybody else?

AirborneElephant · 01/07/2025 16:44

Probably. It’s just so expensive to let it go to waste. Please do make sure you fully understand the dosing though if you’re going to do it, don’t just follow internet guides.

I rather suspect Lily will change the design soon to stop it, but they’ll have to go through a new medical device certification first so it may take them a little while.

Illjusthavethebreadsticks · 01/07/2025 17:00

Just received mine and it’s chilling in the fridge ! Excited

CarbyB · 01/07/2025 17:05

Indeed, as any self-respecting lawyer would, I’ve thoroughly researched this topic! When ordering micro syringes, stick to reputable medical supply companies rather than Amazon or eBay. And don’t forget to stock up on extra alcohol wipes if you’re considering it too.

FFSrage · 01/07/2025 17:08

Hi Everyone! Just jumping in with a quick question - I'm about to start with the jabs and due to a missed delivery (courier went to the wrong house!) I'm not sure my pen has been kept cold 😣
when it was delivered today the package was warm so I've put it straight in the fridge. I've contacted the people I ordered from but they've got a 4-5 day response turnaround so I don't know if I'm ok to start using?

Has anyone had this? Or maybe knows if I'm safe to start?

Em85kk · 01/07/2025 17:38

Do we need to prime it each time or just once?? If each time then that’s what the excess if for surely

SilenceInside · 01/07/2025 17:42

@Em85kk Prime it each time, it's to check that the needle is attached correctly and isn't blocked. And yes, that's why there's excess medication, in case you are very unlucky with needles and need to try it a few times before injecting.

@FFSrage how long did the delivery take in total? Were the ice packs in the package completely melted and warm to the touch? Was the pen itself warm?

If you think it may have been above 30 degrees C then it should not be used, and your pharmacy should issue a replacement.

If it's got above 8 degrees C but less than 30, then you can use it, but must use it within 30 days. That should be fine as it's your first pen and you want to start using it straightaway.
