Thread EIGHT - blimey we talk a lot! 😄 Anyone using weight loss injections to lose more than 5st/30lbs is very welcome, no matter what stage of the process you are no.

We're high on protein, low on carbs, upping the water and getting the fibre in any which way we can!

Please don't post discount codes as your post will be deleted - these need to go on the discount codes thread.

Thanks all, I'll be brave and taste it but I am a bit like an over-dramatic 3yr old when it comes to trying things Grin
I'm still very discombobulated about so many things which I think is because I have never been this weight since before I had my children and the oldest is 38 this year so I have no idea what size I am, what clothes suit me and even how to just be me!

I have lost very little weight in the last 2 months, about 1/2lb a week, but have lost 3-4cm off each measurement over that time and yet, despite buying size 14 tops and 16-18 bottoms (which is bigger than most of you who weigh similar to me), those same measurements show me as being a size 20 according to the M&S size chart! I'm sure life was simpler in my youth!

Helloooo, absolutely shit tons to lose, I’m 20st at 5ft 5 so not even thinking about a goal weight at this point but I’ve got way over 5st to lose so I’m here to join you all.

Potted history: very standard really, been on a diet since I was 7 years old and as a result I’ve never been below the obese category, even when I lost 8st for my wedding in a year previously (low carb). I’m hormonally fucked, also 5 months PP, PCOS, insulin resistant and all that jazz so I lose weight very slowly, tend to only lose weight when on low carb diets but obviously that’s not sustainable long term.

I had my first MJ injection this morning. I’m a data nerd by trade so there is nothing I don’t know about how GLP-1 works at this point, I’ve read every efficacy paper published on the stuff, I’ve researched, I’ve gone back and forth on whether to do this and I’m quietly quite confident now that this can work for me, but I’m nonetheless treating it like a science experiment. There’s a spreadsheet and everything.

The plan is to eat low carb alongside MJ. I still have my data from when I did LC (mumsnet bootcamp) for a year so it will be interesting to compare how I felt and how I lost on BC compared to low carb plus MJ.

You lot are great, I’ve been reading down the threads and I love how supportive you are of each other, feel like I’m going to need some of that!

You’re telling me you’ve lost the best part of 5st in 6 months?? That’s INSANE. My baby was born 17th Jan, it feels like I’ve blinked and we’re in July and in that time you’ve lost the equivalent of a podgy 4 year old?? Like WHAT??? How have you done that??? Just MJ and low carb?

InfoSecInTheCity · 07/07/2025 19:13

@Mounjamtastick Hiya!

Im in my final few lbs stage but started last September after getting the T2 diabetes diagnosis. Like you I’ve been obese since primary, started Weight Watchers when I was 11, had periods where I lost a lot then regained it. PCOS, insulin resistance, Gestational Diabetes and then full on diabetes.

Lost just over 5stone, now have a BMI of 22 and a bit, on 10mg as had a prolonged period on 5mg, and no intention of ever stopping. It controls my sugar levels really well and lets me not be fat.

Gone from size 22/24 to a size 12 with the occasional size 10.

Diet is low carb, high protein, fat and fibre. I don’t eat any bread, potatoes, rice or pasta. All my ca4bs come from fruit and veg. I tend to stick to meat and 2 veg style simple meals, most of it in the slow cooker because I’m lazy so like being able to dump it and then turn it off when I remember and have 4 meals worth of food ready.

Ive attached my week by week because I love my spreadsheet and because I think it’s useful to see that you don’t lose 20lbs a week, you just lose steady with some weeks where you lose nothing or even gain. Just trust the process, stick to a deficit, add in some exercise especially weights and make sure you don’t do the silly starving yourself thing. I eat about 1400 calories a day, it was 1600 when I was bigger,

Manifesting a spreadsheet like that for myself one day!

ANutAsBigAsABoulder · 07/07/2025 21:03

Hello @Mounjamtastick and @Lozzie118 welcome to the thread. Lots of great advice here and inspiration to keep going.

I’m halfway into my fifth Mounjaro pen, fourth of 5mg, and still debating whether or not to go up to 7.5mg. I’m super close to 3stones off, and still losing each week but it’s a bit more up and down than it was. Mind you, I’m also finally not having bouts of diarrhoea a few days a week, which is a big relief!

I’m worried about the summer holidays and being at home more and having to feed the kids, so being around food more regularly. I’ve started to feel a bit more drawn towards nibbling, but am also still losing 1-2lbs a week - don’t want to jump the gun, but don’t want to go to late either.

GiveMeWordGames · 07/07/2025 21:17

@ANutAsBigAsABoulder that was my dilemma too - didn't want to waste money on another month of 5mg if it's no longer working as well for me (after my third 5mg pen in my case) but also don't want to rush up the doses if I don't need to. The pharmacist said his attitude is if it's 50-50 (which I said I was) it's worth going up as you can always go back down. Especially since my side effects going to to 5 hadn't been too bad.

And the price difference between them wasn't much so I went with that plan. If it was a bigger cost jump I might have held on another month at 5mg. But if it turns out I'm not happy on 7.5 I can always count clicks to stick at 5 and not feel like I've wasted loads of money.

Welcome @Mounjamtastick and @Lozzie118 !

Disclaimer: I've already spoken to my GP.

Is anyone here unlucky enough to get migraines? If so, have they changed since starting MJ? I've had migraines for 30+ years. Because my life is so epic-ly awesome these aren't your common or garden ones either, they're hemiplegic migraines. IYKYK but essentially it's a migraine that mimics a stroke. Yes, this has involved ambulances in the past.

The only light in a really shitty situation is that I have such a distinct aura I have about 10 mins to get a can of real deal coke (caffeine and sugar!) and enough meds down my neck before the fun begins. However I had a really weird one a few night ago that my GP has said is a retinal migraine. I basically lost all vision in my left eye. The reason I can tell it was a migraine is that it responded to meds plus I still have the classic migraine hangover. Grrrrrrrrrr.

Yep - mounjaro, low carb and walking.

For me MJ cleared my mind, made making the right decisions easier and just made me feel better, by doing that it’s enabled me to physically do more which has helped. I look and feel 100 times better than I did in December.

Planning and preparation are the key. Having food in a meals planned.

I aim for 100gms of protein and 30gms of fibre a day. My only side effect is constipation. I had IBS before jabbing and I’d be on the loo maybe 3-4 times a day. All changed now, but with the fibre I’m nice and regular.

I tried intermittent fasting but it wasn’t for me. I NEED breakfast.

You’ll find what works for you and don’t get disheartened when you don’t loose.

Measure yourself - this will help in the weeks you don’t loose.

I use Nutracheck and I pay for premium defo worth it.

I’m 47 and I’ve done all the diets and tried everything. This drug is life changing. But it must be treated with respect. You must eat and you must drink all your water!

by Christmas you’ll be where I am now!

Yes I have migraines. No where near what yours are though. I don't get any pre warning, just a pain that gradually comes and takes over the front right hand side of my head.
My first week on the drug I had one each day. But they respond really well to sumatriptan and 90% of the time it does the trick. Second week in and I've only had one, that was yesterday. So no pattern to discern of yet, and after 15 years with them I still can't figure out a trigger!

WoolerOwl · 08/07/2025 07:32

Yes, I have vestibular migraine. I had one in the few days after I started MJ (end Feb) and then none at all since. I take preventative Propranolol and low dose Amitriptyline so didn’t have loads anyway, but five months without a single vertigo attack is amazing and liberating. I hope it settles down for other sufferers too, I’d always thought it was inflammation related in some way for me. MJ clearly helping.

OnwardsDownwards · 08/07/2025 07:52

@Mounjamtastick welcome! I previously did bootcamp too, and found it absolutely worked but wasn’t for me long term. Just as a note of warning, on MJ I can’t tolerate the amount of fat I used to have on bootcamp - especially the more greasy fats (oils, butter). You may find you’re different, but if you get nasty side effects that may be something to consider.

@alltablenochair I don’t suffer anywhere near as much as you’re describing from migraines, but I do normally get one every month or two and haven’t had one since starting MJ in April. Fingers crossed it helps you! I mostly get the retinal type, which I guess is good in that they rarely come with pain, but they are still pretty debilitating.

@Lozzie118 welcome! I’ve found this to be a really useful and welcoming thread.

@alltablenochair bless, that's such a shame getting horrendous migraines. I get retinal migraines similarly, and lose the vision in my left eye for anything up to half an hour. Like you, I generally get the flickers/aura to know it's coming and meds can stop them getting quite as debilitating. Mine have calmed down a lot over the years though, so thankfully not as often. Migraine hangover is the worst, totally wipes you out. Hope you feel better soon! Xx

MooBaggage · 08/07/2025 08:46

@alltablenochair I had one of those once - ended up in hospital for 5 days with people thinking I'd had a stroke/brain tumour. Oh the joy....🙄 Mind you, because they ran every test under the sun, it's how I found out I was Coeliac, so it was a good thing in a way, as the undiagnosed Coeliac had led to my body packing in...!

But mainly I just get visual migraines - I don't lose all vision but just get those halo-type things. And they're not often - probably only a few a year. I'm knackered afterwards!

They don't seem to have changed since starting on MJ - I think I've only had one, which is about right.
