Can I join this party? Am going to start my pen tomorrow evening.
Any advice for my food shop will be really helpful. How do I ensure I get enough protein ?Do the pens come with advice etc ? This is all new to me.
Thank you X

@LessWeightKate I need a family chat like that! DH and I talk constantly about our dog's movements so perhaps we'll add mine into the conversation too 🤣

Hi all!
I’ve just started MJ 2.5 last week, weighed in and took my second jab this morning - had lost an amazing 12 pounds in the first week!!! Suppression was unreal, can’t believe I’ve waited this long to try it. Not expecting to get this amount of loss every week of course, but it’s definitely motivated me to continue with good habits and healthy choices.

Same loss wk1 as me! I'm now petrified it was a fluke and that'll lose nothing in week 2 or worse - gain. I've got my 2.5 for first month and 5 pen already in the fridge for month 2 so want to give it a good shot!

AlicesMum2025 · 17/05/2025 14:16

@lifetheuniverseandeverything42 I have Optimum Nutrition Whey Protein powder in chocolate and vanilla. Chocolate I tend to drink as is, but vanilla I use as the base for smoothies using frozen fruit. I have also made both flavours extra watery and had it over Weetabix. I am not a breakfast person so that's all I can face in the morning (if I have breakfast at all) but its a good after work too, which is my danger time for snacking.

I've tried clear protein too. The Vimto one is super sweet so needs a lot of water but I'm going to try cranberry and raspberry next.

I was in Holland and Barrett today looking at the powders and PhD Nutrition Dirty Whey had less fibre, less protein and more calories than Optimum Nutrition, which isn't labelled as diet. Advise to read the labels.

I know some people turn their noses up at protein shakes but for my weight I need over 100g protein a day. With my appetite so suppressed I can't eat enough to hit that number, so I'm having the shakes. I enjoy them too. My favourite is vanilla with Aldi mango and passion fruit frozen fruit!

Week 3 and I’ve lost 12lb 4!!

Mounraine · 17/05/2025 14:46

@Fatrosrhun I have really cut down on meat and dairy in recent years and like you, struggling with protein. I haven't eaten this much meat in ages :(

I recently bought Dr Rupy Aujla's Healthy High Protein cookbook but feeling a bit disappointed with it :(

Edit - should also say I try to avoid UPFs too.

Fatrosrhun · 17/05/2025 15:05

I’m hoping to have Greek yoghurt with seeds, berries and perhaps nuts for breakfast to kick off the protein. Then veg soup or salad for lunch with adele’s beans or cottage cheese. Then use lentils in dishes for dinner. See what works for me with the pen. I’m looking forward to starting with you guys. I daren’t do tonight as I have a coffee/cake/toastie kiosk and i daren’t be nauseous while serving! I only work weekends so will try Monday once I’ve done a healthy shop!

As suggested, a thread to support periods of side effects.

https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/weight-loss-injections/5336791-side-effect-survivors-club?utm_campaign=thread&utm_medium=share

I'm actually feeling ok, a bit of dizziness, fatigue and FREEZING, but nothing that is scary.

I can’t wait to be cold. I’ve been having to sleep in the spare room as I’m so hot at night. (I bet I’ll be the one that doesn’t get that side effect!)

Elle771 · 17/05/2025 15:26

W1D2 and I'm soooooo tired 🙈🙈

No desire for wine or gin though which is bonkers as usually on sunny day I would be in garden with one now!

That's exactly the kind of thing I'd been eating. Started tracking on NutraCheck (which I recommend btw - £20 for the year) and discovered that my protein is woefully under. All of that Greek yogurt, beans and lentils wasn't touching the sides 😱.

I reckon I need to figure out cooking with tofu next, but it's not something I have seen for sale locally.

GeraniumRoseblush · 17/05/2025 16:12

@stripesdotsdashes snap! 👋 Started same day as you, and 4lbs in 2 weeks. I was beginning to think I was an outlier! Glad to have a buddy in the slow losers club 😀

MsTamborineMan · 17/05/2025 16:15

I've just had my first dose delivered, I was going to start on Monday morning as tend to be all over the place on the weekends!

Bit worried about the side effects after reading this thread but we'll see, if it's awful then I don't have to continue

I'm feeling excited but very nervous! And actually since I made the decision to order a couple of weeks ago I've had no problems sticking to my diet, and have lost 3lbs this week without so now I'm thinking perhaps I don't need it or just need some sort of placebo! I've not even been tempted to snack 😂

I've got around 2-3st to lose. I was a healthy weight for most if my life and a combination of covid, massively stressful job, and depression basically led to weight gain, and whilst I used to have no problem with my weight, I haven't been able to shift this. I'm most looking forward to getting my face back

Mounraine · 17/05/2025 16:18

W3D2 weighed myself after a week's holiday and seem to have put on 1.5lb but with rounding it's 2lb on. I also did weight-lifting yesterday and that typically means a small gain the next day (I'm a daily weigher). I feel pretty hopeful about more sensible eating this week and a good result on the scales.

selfesteemsearcher · 17/05/2025 16:29

love following along how everyone’s doing, I feel like I’m going to be the one person this doesn’t work for 😂 I took first jab on Wednesday night, can’t lie finding it abit ‘odd’, day one I felt okay, abit iffy very lethargic almost. Early hours yesterday I was up in night, fighting being sick for hours, I felt very ill all day too and had to have an afternoon nap. Food noise hasn’t turned off for me I wouldn’t say, I just felt that ill yesterday I couldn’t eat atall 🫠 then today definitely felt better, managed breakfast and lunch, both healthy so felt good. But again had to have an hour nap (this is super odd for me, never can usually sleep enless night and in bed) then I experienced sleep paralysis for the first time in my life, awake but couldn’t speak or move, it lasted for about 5 mins. I read in the forum or another they experienced too as a side effect of jab, how bizarre that is 🫠 how’s everyone else’s delightful weekend? 😂😂

MarinaDelRay · 17/05/2025 16:50

W1 D2
SW 188.3lbs
GW 150lbs .

I have only had one side effect but it’s a huge one. I take prescribed medication to help me sleep but last night it didn’t kick in until 5am. Then I woke up at 7am, then 8.30, then 10.30am. Obviously this is not sustainable but I don’t know what I can do. While lying in bed I read that Zepbound can disturb sleep patterns but also that the sleep medication will take much longer to work as the stomach has slowed right down.

I’m not sure where to go from here. I can’t see how this situation can change when it’s due to the slow movement of the stomach. Has anyone else come across this.

MorrowTreasure · 17/05/2025 17:03

@selfesteemsearcher your reaction sounds exactly like mine! I was the one with the weird sleep paralysis! I can report now on week1 day6 that I had no side effects at all after 3 days but also no suppression. Hoping that next week won’t be exactly the same 🤞

I knew I’d read someone else experienced it too. Arww amazing that gives me some reassurance 😅 xx

This is why I was reminding everyone to take their measurements at the start, as the scales dont always show progress. I've done loads of exercise and am taking creatine to help with muscle retention so thought it might impact weight loss.
And well done fellow slow loser! 😄👍 We'll get there!

afaloren · 17/05/2025 18:46

Hello, I hope I can join. Took my first 2.5mg jab today. Excited!

This is similar to me , apart from the lentils (so far) . I have found an old recipe in my stash for a lentil-based shepherds pie, which I thought about trying - not normally a fan of pulses , but it’s hard getting the protein quota increased.
Tried a UFit strawberry shake last evening , recommended by someone upthread - quite pleasant , not too thick or gloopy and 25gms of protein . Did feel a bit nauseous afterwards, though - will try to drink even more slowly next time .
Hard eating when you really don’t feel hungry!

LittleNoosh · 17/05/2025 12:41

Beans, lentils, chickpeas and tofu are your friends.

I do a bean soup which has huge amounts of protein in.

It’s entirely possible on a vegetarian or vegan diet. And quite affordable too.

Thanks @LittleNoosh - I’ll defo give some soups a go (and I can batch and freeze 🙌). That’s really great to know about the protein as I have lentils and chickpeas a lot, but tofu only about once a week (up to now). I’ve never tried to actually track how much protein I’m getting from my usual foods so hopefully that means when I work it out im actually doing better than I feared 😆😊

ElsieJay · 17/05/2025 19:18

PS : Meant to add “welcome and good luck” to everyone about to begin, or a few days in .

BluNavy · 17/05/2025 20:46

Thought I'd give a little update.

I'm in the middle of week 3 and I am really enjoying this. I'm lucky that my side effects are on the less intense side.

The not thinking about food and not desiring absolute crap all the time is really new for me. I had a kids birthday party today and would happily have had a slice cake or two and all the crisps. But it was easy to say no thanks to the cake, something that has never been the case for me. I tried a bite of cake for my daughter's birthday last week and it did nothing for me. I've been to three restaurants and have made so much better choices.

I am definitely more tired from not eating as much as I probably should but also start the day with more energy. I haven't done much exercise since my kids were born and have exercised 7 times since I've started.

I am focusing on calories and protein as it seems protein is so important. Today I tried a Muller high protein meal replacement drink for breakfast. It was 500 calories and 34g protein. It kept me going until about 3:30pm.

I've put in a request for my next pen which I expect will be approved next week and sticking with 2.5mg. Hoping to progress slowly with the doses if possible and nervous that the side effects will be stronger as I go higher.

I have a lot to loose so really in it for the long haul. Little worried about maintenance in the future as I've read some negative stories but that is a while a way for me so trying not to worry about it now and focusing on making long term changes.

This group is giving me lots of ideas and very encouraging.

Good luck everyone

Moneyordream · 17/05/2025 21:50

W2D1 and the side effects from the second jab last night mixed with with my monthly arriving have knocked me for six today, heavy bloating, sulphur burps, stomach bubbling, on the toilet very often.
Weighed in and lost 1lb, was a little deflated but I'm sure it will show more next week. The suppression did seem to wear off noticeably by Thursday afternoon.

When is everyone ordering their second dose and are you changing supplier for a better price?
