Couldn't see a thread for may but hoping I can find fellow starters to chat with. I've opted to go with SheMed and have just received my blood test kit through so should be starting within the next week or 2!

@minerva7 I have no advice as I've only done one injection and haven't experienced the problems you have. Can your provider give some advice? I certainly wouldn't increase up to 5 yet. Sending positive vibes to you.

Mounraine · 02/05/2025 21:41

Flowers @minerva7 that sounds really rough. I don’t think you should put yourself through it. Could you stick at 2.5 and use it to help you with better eating rather than relying on it for complete suppression? (Personally I think I would quit, but that’s easy for me to say).

Phat2fin · 02/05/2025 22:34

I’ll join. I took my first jab earlier today - around 5pm. I also went with SheMed.

Official starting weight at time of jab was 110.6kg!! I’m aiming to lose 50kg - I’m only 5’3”

Not feeling great right now, feel kinda like you do at the start of ‘flu - muscle aches, nausea, dizziness, and tiredness.

namechin · 02/05/2025 22:58

Been watching with interest.
5ft 10, 13.4st.
My BMI is 27, the GP said only if it was 30/31 would I be considered as a suitable medical weight loss candidate on the NHS (I have a hiatus hernia which my excess weight makes worse and has stopped me doing the really physical exercise that I enjoyed, running and rowing)
I wouldn't be able to get these prescriptions online would I?

Sia9 · 02/05/2025 23:11

Hi all. Can I join?

I’ve had my pen since Monday but like so many others I haven’t bit the bullet yet !

I’m going to inject in the morning. I can’t get my head around this might actually work.

I’ve never been overweight/always a size 6/8 (apart from pregnancies) but 3rd baby, a few losses and perimenopause all in the last 2 years have kicked my butt!

I’ve got to a stage where I am declining social invites because I’m so self conscious about how I look. I bumped in to someone after 10 years and I was mortified and what they must have thought 😞 I’ve found this weeks weather horrific as I’ve not been able to cover up in big hoodies, coupled with feeling like a sweaty mess.

So here goes !

CURRENT
Height - 5ft
Weight - 11st 7lb
BMI - 31.4
Dress size - 14

GOAL
Weight - 8st 7lb
BMI - 23.2

Moneyordream · 03/05/2025 06:57

Took the plunge and my first dose is arriving this week. I have seen such great results from others, slightly worried about the horror stories you hear in mainstream. But I need to do something, I can't carry on like I am failing with diet after diet, the constant food noise. My youngest keeps trying to encourage me to exercise with her as she does junior parkrun etc and I can barely walk to the shop without getting out of breath

Stephenkingsbiggestfan · 03/05/2025 06:59

I’ve woken up on week 1, day 3 and still no side effects.

Not remotely hungry either. That feels very weird after 40 odd years of being constantly hungry!

Lonestar1988 · 03/05/2025 08:01

Hello, Can I join too please. Waiting for my order to arrive today and will inject straight away. I went with pharmacy online and I had to order needles as an extra. Is that normal? I am excited to start. I am at my absolute heaviest despite really trying to lose weight.
Start weight 14 stone 9
Goal weight 11 stone

Height 5ff 7

Mounraine · 03/05/2025 08:34

I’ve just done a food shop, and it’s difficult when you’re still feeling full from yesterday and disinterested (is that right word?) in food.

Phat2fin · 03/05/2025 08:46

@Mounraine Yes, I was trying to meal plan and do my Ocado order last night and I just felt so sick and uninterested, it was a real chore.

@Sia9 I’m really self conscious and embarrassed about my weight too, I’ve never been as fat as I am now. I can go weeks without leaving the house and I’m hoping that losing weight will boost my confidence to be able to get out more.

@Lonestar1988 I ordered with SheMed and they sent a box of 100 needles plus an OTC ‘side effects’ kit with medication for diarrhoea/constipation/trapped gas/indigestion

Phat2fin · 03/05/2025 08:51

After feeling really unwell last night I’ve woke up feeling not too bad. It’s difficult to know whether it’s side effects or just my usual symptoms as I often feel crappy and nauseous. I don’t have any interest in eating anything but I’m really thirsty so I’m drinking water which I don’t normally do

jp35 · 03/05/2025 09:42

After my first injection, yesterday evening, I don’t feel anything? Should I be? I’m really not sure what to expect.

Does it usually take a while to kick in?

jp35 · 03/05/2025 09:44

What would people recommend for work lunches whilst on Mounjaro? I was thinking of taking salads?

Hi, I also have a hiatus hernia and I have oesophageal disease. After my last endoscopy the consultant recommended weight loss, like I didn’t know that already. I already don’t eat much because of this condition which made weight gain even more difficult to deal with as I’d done nothing different and my weight kept rising.

my BMI is 30 and I was told that I would need to have something like diabetes to get weight loss injections on prescription, hence me going ahead and buying them privately.

Have you been offered orlistat? I have tried this but didn’t find it useful.

tkband3 · 03/05/2025 09:59

Just did my first injection. Really anxious about vomiting but will stay at home today just in case!

Salads are good. It's a bit hot for soup right now but my freezer is full of lunch portions. A stuffed pitta bread is a fave too.

Basically I have the same as ever, only smaller, and once I'm done, I don't think about food until the next mealtime. It's so bizarre!

AlrightTrouble · 03/05/2025 10:33

Awaiting delivery of my first batch today, I went with My London Pharmacy as I already had an account with them for other prescription meds. It was a fairly fast turnaround from ordering to review, to confirmation. Planning on making a start across the bank holiday weekend. I’m mildly worried about side effects and injecting, but have made a promise to my DC that I’ll go horse riding with them in the summer, and I’d rather not kill some poor pony in the process! 😂

Seahorsesplendour · 03/05/2025 10:40

Hi all please can I join? I’ve just ordered my first injections.

Went with Asda as easier to collect than be in to receive and had a discount code off a friend!

Asked for nhs referral back in Nov as would be able to get it on nhs due to bmi & other conditions. Chased yesterday and told would prob be another year before I get appt !

So have taken the plunge!!!! Feel like I’m wasting the time being overweight and miserable !!!

117kg 5ft 1in so a lot to loose!!

good luck everyone!!

Woodywig · 03/05/2025 10:42

Hi ladies,

finally plucked up the courage / took the plunge- signed up with shemed & started my first dose of Mounjaro yesterday. (After keeping in the fridge for a week!)

I’ve got a lot to lose - starting at 124 kg yesterday.

I’ve always been bigger - but during my twin pregnancy I piled on a lot of weight. My twins are nearly 8 now - but I’ve not been able to lose the weight - and have yoyo’d between 117 and 127kg.

A couple of years ago I stopped dieting and have focused on being fit and healthy - rather than slim. I walk lots (15k steps a day) and I do strength & cardio session twice a week so my fitness isn’t too bad - underneath all the insulation I’ve got a lot of muscle now.

food wise my meals are pretty healthy but portions too big - and the unhealthy snacking is my main downfall.

my main reason for starting is because we’ve booked a holiday abroad (first for 10 years) and I’m scared about not fitting in the plane seats 😔. The holiday is 12 weeks away so hoping this world for me & I can drop a good few kg by then. First goal is 115 kg.

Anyway I just wanted to say hi. This is my first ever post on mumsnet! Look forward to
Joining you all on this journey.

Good luck! Going to do mine this evening. Hope it all goes smoothly for you.

I responded quickly -- took it at early o'clock and definitely wasn't fussed about food by the evening. That could have been all in my head, but I def knew the next day when lunchtime came and went without me noticing. It's wild how different the starting point is for everyone!

It also makes me low-key anxious about moving up a dose. If I respond this fast, 5 might deliver all the SE I've swerved so far 😬

GeraniumRoseblush · 03/05/2025 11:01

Can I join? 👋
Started yesterday afternoon with my first injection (really had to talk myself into it as was convinced I'd get ALL the side effects immediately!).
Expected to not want food this morning but have eaten breakfast quite happily so sorta assuming suppression hasn't kicked in yet? Is it really obvious when it appears or does it slowly creep up on you?

MoggiMay · 03/05/2025 11:45

Hi can anyone tell me the cheapest place to start Mounjaro off please? I’ve been thinking for a while about starting, stepped on the scales this morning and cried 😭. I have to do something, I’m ever so down! Thank you!

Mounraine · 03/05/2025 11:51

@jp35 I have taken salads to work for a few years now. Always includes a mix of leafy greens, seeds, sauerkraut and a portion of protein. The Mounjaro stops me following that with a chocolate bar and can of Pepsi Max!

I'm on D2 and suppression has kicked in. It's nearly dinner time and I haven't given eating a second thought. I feel stuffed from last night's tea.
