Couldn't see a thread for may but hoping I can find fellow starters to chat with. I've opted to go with SheMed and have just received my blood test kit through so should be starting within the next week or 2!

I record my eating but don't worry about the calories so much as watching my fibre and protein intake. I use NutraCheck and have subscribed (think it was £20 for the year).

Choc88 · 30/04/2025 19:15

I’m starting tonight too ! I’m so nervous !

Mounraine · 30/04/2025 19:59

I’m starting my second attempt tomorrow but very tempted to do it tonight to get it over with!

Fantalou · 30/04/2025 20:14

Is it advisable to take in lots of protein? I’m vegetarian so it will have to be shakes

Mounraine · 30/04/2025 20:18

I am trying to hit the recommended protein (and fibre) amounts just for general healthy living rather than anything Mounjaro-related 🙂.

Mounraine · 30/04/2025 20:20

I thought I was fine because I eat plenty of fish and plant-based proteins. It wasn’t until I started measuring that I realised I was way below recommendations. (I avoid protein powders nowadays due to UPF).

BluNavy · 30/04/2025 20:26

Really interesting to hear others thoughts.
I'm using my fitness pall and have set a target of 35% carbs 35% protein 30% fat and it's hard to achieve the protein.

AlrightTrouble · 30/04/2025 20:32

Joining! Just ordered my first four pens. Weighing in at 5 foot 8, 16 stone 5. I managed to lose two stone through intermittent fasting but have slowly put a stone right back on again. So, here we go! Hoping I’ll get my jawline back. 😂

Jackreacherstrousers · 30/04/2025 22:13

I took my first injection today.
I am waiting on hip surgery so have been very sedentary (not by choice) over the past year. The weight has piled on so I'm hoping this will help curb my appetite as well as help me lose a bit of my extra weight before I go into hospital.

SW 94.4 Kg
GW 65 Kg (post surgery and able to exercise)
I am 5ft 7 with a BMI of 32.6

CatG021024 · 01/05/2025 06:54

I'm struggling to achieve any sort of protein/carb/fat or calorie target as I am barely hungry. Appetite suppression is strong immediately from my first dose. But my aim is to increase protein and monitor calories,.hopefully when this settles and I a really feel any sort of real hunger. I know that sounds great but it's weird currently.

Yes, this is the second time I've had the same issue, but at least I learned from the first time around that the high suppression days aren't forever. It's such a weird feeling!

My focus this time around is not to sweat the protein just yet. As long as I get some in each meal via a fortified yogurt or egg/bit of chicken, I'm happy. I'll focus on the numbers soon but fibre and fluid to help digestive transit is my first goal or I'll just be miserable!

At least it's salad weather 😅

SlipperyLizard · 01/05/2025 09:01

I’ve just had my order approved so am awaiting delivery. I strength train 3 times a week and although I’m not too fussed about protein now, I will try to pay more attention to once my appetite is suppressed.

Has anyone tried using Huel or similar? Was thinking if I don’t want to eat then a milkshake might work, as I could just sip it during the day and know what calories etc I’m getting.

DH knows I’ve ordered it and I won’t hide it from others once they notice the loss but also not going to shout about it (just like I wouldn’t shout if I was doing WW or SW).

Kipperandarthur · 01/05/2025 09:41

The one side effect that I have experienced so far is a lump like sensation in my throat (only in the evening) after eating which is a bit disconcerting, but it was immediate not something that has built up.

I notice another Mumsnetter has commented about this on another thread and there are a few comments on Reddit about it as well.

I also feel I need to stop obsessing about it all as my mind is racing ahead reading the stories of others with significant weight loss over many months. I need to recognise that it's been a long term weight gain over a significant period of years and this weight injection process is also going to be a marathon rather than a sprint.

I've also got a family lunch out on Sunday in a restaurant and have already looked at the menu to prepare myself as to what would be best to order rather than the traditional roast.

Interestingly after the first jab I did have a small bar of chocolate - size wise the fun snack type - that I ate the first evening after a light dinner. 2 hours later I threw the chocolate up. In some ways this is excellent as it's going to seriously discourage me from eating this again and in other ways it's making me wonder about future effects of eating a pudding or similar if away from home.

GoGoGovy · 01/05/2025 11:20

Hi, Can I join?
My prescription has just been approved. 🎉

I’m going with Wegovy, but I’m sure the journey will be similar.

My BMI is 30/31, so I was a bit worried that they would reject me. Won’t get my pen until next week and then I’m away for the weekend, so realistically, I won’t start until the following week. Strangely, I have lost 2lbs since I submitted my forms. Perhaps it’s because I’ve been on edge. This really feels like my last chance to get my weight under control. Absolutely nothing has worked since I went through the menopause.

Exciting times!

MyScaredCat · 01/05/2025 11:44

This is bloody weird.
i obsess about food normally.
only on day 2 and ive literally had to force myself to eat a high fibre cereal bar there as I hadn’t eaten a thing today. Just don’t think about food. Is this how it works? Madness. How ‘normal’ people must feel all the time
🤣

SlippySausage · 01/05/2025 12:26

Still waiting for my delivery but have a cracking headache today and feel sick. Glad I haven’t actually injected anything yet or I’d be on here complaining about side effects!

Peachblossom25 · 01/05/2025 13:05

My prescription has just been approved! I can collect tomorrow afternoon so I’m planning to inject tomorrow evening so I have the weekend to recover in case of side effects.
I really want to do this but I’m so scared. I’ve been reading lots of other people’s journeys on here and elsewhere and so many are positive but I’m just obsessing over the negative ones. I’m so scared that I will have terrible side effects or that it won’t work.

It is scary at the start I know. I'm obsessing about it a bit having done the first jab on Tuesday. But realistically with time you will get used to it all and that's what I keep telling myself.

It is certainly helpful to read about the journey that others are on, but as you can see everybody has their own journey. Some have a few side effects, some none, some don't want to eat, some are now making better choices etc. etc.

One step at a time. You've made the first step in ordering, then you will do the first jab, the first week and so on and so forth. Good luck.

Apprenante · 01/05/2025 18:37

Just done my first jab. Virtually painless. Fingers crossed for minimal SEs!

Dontopenthetrapdoor · 01/05/2025 18:47

My first pen has finally arrived after I ordered with Juniper 10 days ago, approval and delivery took a lot longer than I was expecting. I’m planning to take my first dose tomorrow evening as I am worried about it impacting my work tomorrow if I take it tonight.

Herewegoagain80 · 01/05/2025 19:00

It sounds like there’s a few of us taking our first jab tomorrow. I’m doing mine after work so that I have the bank holiday weekend to deal with any side effects. I’m worried too but I need to take this first step.

Mounraine · 01/05/2025 20:23

So, after an up and down April, this evening was my second attempt at taking 2.5mg. Feeling a bit apprehensive after the awful side effects of the first time. But, this pen is my last attempt. If this doesn't work for me at least I know I tried and what I'm missing. I lost half a stone in April and I have seen that I can cut the junk, snacking and over-eating out. I really, really want it to work though.

SignedUpAgain · 01/05/2025 20:23

I started today. Have lots to lose.

Anyone have a good app to use to record weight and hopefully inches lost?

Gingefringe · 01/05/2025 20:24

I've just taken my first jab about an hour ago. Feeling nervous but also a bit excited at (hopefully) losing the 2 stone gained over the last few years.
I'm 62, 5'2" and 12 stone.

The jab was straightforward and painless.
Good luck everyone. x

Mounraine · 01/05/2025 20:24

@SignedUpAgain MeThreeSixty is different and fun.
