Couldn't see a thread for may but hoping I can find fellow starters to chat with. I've opted to go with SheMed and have just received my blood test kit through so should be starting within the next week or 2!

Day 3 or 4! Of second jab. Lost 5lb over all which pleased as I was already eating well etc so don’t think I had a lot of water weight to lose. My legs are aching today. I’ve googled it and I think it may be a side effect!

BerfyTigot · 15/05/2025 10:30

Thanks @selfesteemsearcher @Mounraine @DidILeaveTheGasOn
Feeling pretty weak but really want to carry on with MJ. I've been obese all my adult life (nearly 55 now).

I had very small portions last night - chicken chasseur and pasta. And a fun size mars bar later on. Which do you think it could be? It was a lot less than I would usually eat.

I had already taken loperamide but may have vomited it up. Sorry for tmi. Might take another dose shortly.

But the plus side is that I don't have any food noise!

planesick · 15/05/2025 10:32

Hi,is it too late join? I received my first pen today. I haven't taken it yet. Bit terrified about doing the injection really. How do you dispose of your sharps bins?

I am 55 yrs 5ft 2in and 16.5 stone....

I only did my first injection last night, honestly the needle is so tiny you actually don’t feel it. I’ve just been using a bathroom bin as you replace the lids on them after ect

BerfyTigot · 15/05/2025 10:42

Hoping it's OK not to eat anything- I'm sipping very dilute squash but can't face food.

@keeponplodding7 Hope the aching legs goes soon

Blimey @BerfyTigot that's horrendous, you poor thing. @2old4thisshit How are you holding up? I was reading through a thread of folks that started MJ last year and it was really useful - lots of people have made considered, slow increases rather than going from 2.5 to 5 to 7.5 and so on - they've gone for quarter or half increases each week to help with the side effects. It makes a lot of sense and could really help those that are hit by awful side effects.

How are you @Col28? And @Mounraine? I'm conscious that this is a fast-moving thread but didn't want those that are having a hard time to disappear in amongst other posts.

I'm on day ... 4? Injected on Sunday afternoon? and I woke up bright and early and had a shower before work, unheard of - usually shower in the evening. That bright-eyed, bushy-tailedness has gone now, I feel rough, almost like I'm due on. I'm not though but I've got cramps into my thighs.

Painkillers and coffee and water.

I feel for you & anyone going through the side effects. I've not felt as unwell in years. In fact since Food Poisoning 2019.
Last night around 7pm I realised I hadn't been in the loo for a good while but I woke up around 2am & needed loo again. I do feel a bit better & just eaten a small amount of porridge with few blueberries. Terrified now.
I hope the side effects suffers feel better very soon, at it's worst it's horrendous. xxx

Mounraine · 15/05/2025 10:56

Welcome @planesick. I was super nervous beforehand, but unsurprising in hindsight because I've never injected myself before! Some people aren't even able to inject themselves and get someone else to do it. I would say the anticipation is 100x worse than the reality. It's odd, but it's not painful.

Disposing of the sharps bin does seem to be an issue that not all councils/areas are providing fore. I'm going to try my council and nearby pharmacies, but I think it'll take ages to fill up my sharps bin. (The pen does not contain a sharp and can go in your normal bin).

DidILeaveTheGasOn · 15/05/2025 11:53

Hey @Catty123Ma , I think going for half a dose could be a good shout if you're worried about side effects. I was so worried about them that I had Mounjaro in the fridge for three months before I finally worked up the nerve to inject. I totally get the apprehension.

That said, from looking at the information from the trials, only 4% experienced nausea and 9% experienced diarrhoea. Obviously if you're affected by those things it doesn't matter what the percentage is, but it's helpful to know that it is quite low on the starting dose. The percentage of those affected by side effects did increase as the dose mg increased, but still relatively low percentages.

From the Lilly.com information on MJ:

"The majority of reports of nausea, vomiting, and/or diarrhea occurred during dose escalation and decreased over time."

SignedUpAgain · 15/05/2025 11:56

Week 2 completed here. Disappointed to lose less than a kilo.

Didn't feel as much nausea during the week, but equally had plenty of food noise and healthy appetite.

Did injection 3 this morning, and so far no symptoms or reaction.

Overall in the 2 weeks I've lost 3.4kg which is I think about 7lbs

Iggy35 · 15/05/2025 12:19

@SignedUpAgain
Congratulations on your losses so far.

My weigh in day and 3rd jab is tomorrow morning. I cannot wait.

How did you find week 2 compared to week 1?

I feel like my suppression was minimal so really had to use my will power to make aom good choices (had BBQ out and one dinner with friends) so found it a struggle (compared to the first week when I felt the choice was made for me 😅)

On the subject of sharps bins, the company that supplied your bin is supposed to be responsible for collecting it, so it's worth contacting your provider.
I have 2 sharps bins as I have injections for asthma, and even though they're prescribed and paid for by the NHS, I can't return my sharps bin to a pharmacy or the local authority because the drug is delivered by a private pharmacy. I have to arrange collection with them when full. Conversely, my sharps bin for MJ can be taken to a pharmacy because i have mine prescribed by The NHS.

Pimms123 · 15/05/2025 13:06

Hi everyone. Is it too late to join? I had my first jab on Sat 10th. I have had minor SE. Just a dodgy tummy on Monday. Tbh I haven't had much appetite suppression so I have been using will power. Due my second jab on Sat and hoping I will get some suppression because the thought of relying on will power again for another weak is making me feel deflated. I have at least 2 stone to lose. Will weigh just before my jab on and hopefully will have lost something.
Can anyone else relate?

MarinaDelRay · 15/05/2025 13:32

Hi everyone, I’m British, currently living in the US, so five hours behind you. I’ve been reading all the posts over the past few days. My first delivery of Zepbound/Mounjaro arrives today. I’m excited to get going.

I know there is no definitive answer to this question but would love to know what people think. Are side effects likely to start within a few hours of the first jab or is it more likely to be the next day or two?

I’d like to start as soon as it arrives but I have a dinner this evening I can’t get out of. Tomorrow I can lay low. Saturday I have to meet a client at 10am and again on Sunday at 3pm.

Would you start today or put it off until maybe Sunday afternoon?

lifetheuniverseandeverything42 · 15/05/2025 13:49

Im late to the May chat but I have just had my consultation and ordered my first dose. They suggested it would be delivered tomorrow. Nervous excited. I work from home and tend to graze throughout the day. I'm really hoping that the injections help with this. I lost weight a few years ago but since then we've had issues with my daughter (suspected autism) and mother with Alzheimer's and I've just piled the weight back on. I know I just won't be able to shift the weight without some help with everything going on in my life. I figure there is nothing wrong with having some help so here we go.

Mounraine · 15/05/2025 13:53

@MarinaDelRay I track my symptoms. Take the jab on a Thursday evening after eating, about 5 or 6pm, and get an early night. I have typically had a metallic taste in my mouth and some general queasiness during the night.
Fatigue by about 2pm on Friday - Monday with some constipation. Tuesday - Thursday the effects (positive and negative) wear off.

If I was you I'd eat a small, bland meal tonight and take it before bed with as much of a break after eating as possible.

26dX · 15/05/2025 13:58

Also not sure if it’s been said but the app “Shotsy” is really good! It lets you add jab day and time, site you injected, symptoms and weight loss.

I can definitely relate to this. For 4 days after my first dose I had no suppression at all. In fact I felt hungrier than normal because I wasn’t stuffing my face with rubbish. After that, the suppression started building but was still nowhere near what some people were reporting. It was lovely though because I could eat a small portion for a meal and still feel full. I had no urge to snack in between either. Hopefully you’re the same as me and it just takes a little time for it to kick in.

I’m on W2D5 and it’s only today that I’ve felt that lack of suppression again. I think I can cope with sheer willpower for a couple of days until dose 3 on Friday.

I’ll do that. Thank you very much @Mounraine. Really helpful.

Pimms123 · 15/05/2025 14:17

@Herewegoagain80 I'm glad it's not just me then. I keep telling myself it's only the first jab and shouldn't expect too much but it's a little deflating when you read about people having total suppression. At least the SE are not horrendous as no one knows...not even my husband as this is definitely something he would not be on board with but I'm sick of being self conscious. I keep counting down the days to my next jab lol. Thank you for your reply

DidILeaveTheGasOn · 15/05/2025 14:18

Thank you @Mounraine! Just got the app after your recommendation and it looks great, really useful to see when the levels of MJ peak.

Hi, I started yesterday- first 2.5mg dose. Bizarrely, my appetite is almost non-existent already, which seems odd. I thought it would take longer to kick in! Glad to have found lots of you who have just started too 😊

This is exactly the same as me, Oakhouse. Was very close to talking myself out of it. Only DH knows, and I had to squirrel the bits away. How are you feeling? X

That’s really good! Well done. Try not to feel disheartened- half a stone lost is great x
