Couldn't see a thread for may but hoping I can find fellow starters to chat with. I've opted to go with SheMed and have just received my blood test kit through so should be starting within the next week or 2!

@Elle09 what kind of diet do you subscribe to, is probably the best place to start. I am pretty much on the Zoe Nutrition / Doctor's Kitchen bandwagon - variety of plants, lots of fibre and protein and minimise UPFs. I don't calorie count. I do practise time-restricted eating.
You could add fresh seafood such as salmon and prawns for a big protein hit, and start sneaking in smaller sources of protein such as beans and seeds to reach protein goals.

@Col28 maybe we should start a Side Effects Survivors club/thread!

In terms of weighing, I'm a daily weigher, but like PP only record the weight on a Friday. From what I've read/watched/heard there's no real consensus as to what is best - daily, weekly or monthly. I think we have to each work out what is best for us personally.

You give so much good advice. I’m glad you are back 😊

I know my scales are shit but they’re reading that half way through my first week I’ve put on 1kg 😡surely not?

New analogue scales have arrived. I’m now 14 stone 12 pounds. A loss of 1 pounds in 3 days. A bit ‘meh’ but if I consider it’s currently the end of the day, rather than the start when I first weighed, and that I started my first period in around 5 years this afternoon then I’ll take it.

Col mine is the same colour and I’m getting the same side effects as you. I hope that stops you worrying so much about your gall bladder as I still have mine.
Worth a conversation with doc though definitely 💐

Thank you so much, it does ease my mind. I was thinking all sorts when I saw the colour of it. You've really made me feel better.
Bless you xxx

@colI get you with the swollen stomach. I look fatter than I did before I started 😩

@Peachblossom25 I reckon it might help to focus on non-scale victories, or NSV. If you're motivated by measurable metrics, what about waist and hip measurements? They're less likely to mess you about than all the stuff fluctuating in your body that could cause the scale to show unexpected numbers.

How do you feel in the morning and evening? What are your energy levels like? What are you hoping to achieve from this other than a certain weight, what does that look like and how does it feel to be on the way there?

I think another perspective is that you're not at war with your body, all the right stuff is happening, you're doing all the right things, and the weight WILL come off.

Thank you for replying and for your advice. Saying I’m not at war with my body really resonated with me.
I feel much better about it all this evening.

Sounds good to me. Good luck 😊

@Peachblossom25 yesterday I weighed myself first thing, then about 1 hour later I had big 💩 and when I weighed myself immediately after I'd lost 1 lb 🤣🤣🤣 I hadn't been for a few days.

On a serious note, I got a new set of smart scales and I've become a bit obsessed with them. It's surprising to see how much my weight fluctuates through the week but I'm not recording the intermediate weigh ins, just one a week. That once a week weigh in is what I use to track my weight loss. Trust the process, MJ will do its thing.

Also, remember that weight loss can be proportional. So if you're thinking your weekly loss is disappointing because others are losing more, it may be that those people losing more per week have are heavier. A 2% weight loss for a 16 stone person is naturally lower than a 20 stone person (4 lb vs 6lb in fact).

Hopefully I’ll do a big 💩 soon and see the scales drop 😂

Peachblossom25 · 14/05/2025 19:17

Phat2fin · 14/05/2025 16:47

@Peachblossom25 I’m a daily weigher but I log every weight in the Apple Health App and it gives you an ‘average weight’ so although my daily weight fluctuates I can see my average weight for this week is less than last week - so that’s a win

Edited

This is good to know. Thank you!

I lost 8 lbs in the first couple of days but I knew it wasn’t a real weight loss. Water weight etc. I am in week 2 day 4 and still 8 lbs down. I am happy with that. It feels more real.

i have had no SE and this has had an amazing effect on my eating habits. It’s definitely the best thing ever. I start day with blueberries and Greek yogurt. Then have nothing until dinner. Even that alone is a major calorie deficit compared to previous and it is no effort as don’t feel hungry. I have decided that dinner needs to just be as easy as possible. That stops all the thought about what to have. I am a mad air fryer fanatic! So i put healthy things in the 2 drawer ninja and have those with microwaved frozen veg e.g. tonight it was edamame beans and to make me enjoy the cooking process I cut up a shallot to put in with the beans and when done I added some chilli flakes and balsamic :-). I’ve gone of any sort of preprocessed foods and all cakes, biscuits and the like. The thought of having an entire box of cakes on a Friday night is gone. Not like previously. All my bad habits are gone.

I decided to have just one of the wee fry’s Turkish delight bars after dinner out of habit. I don’t need it or really want it but having it anyway. I think once i go to 5mg that will also be cut out.

It doesn’t stop you liking food and eating but it reduces all the extraneous unneeded unhealthy grazing. That’s what I think anyway.

Week 1 day 6 for me and I can feel the appetite suppression is wearing off, however the food noise is still quiet and I been able to make good food choices so far today - just feeling hungrier at meal times than the past few days, so I am ready for the second jab tomorrow!

We started on the same day. I started to feel it wearing off yesterday I'm counting the hours till jab 2 tomorrow

PandyMoanyMum · 14/05/2025 20:32

I’m week 1, day 3 and I think the appetite suppression is wearing off a little. Have managed to stick with good choices but trickier this evening. On the plus side I have had no side effects other than not being able to get to sleep as easily as usual.
I’m eating dates when I fancy a treat. Do other people have any good ideas of treat substitutes?

tostaky · 14/05/2025 20:45

im very excited to have received my first pen! Ive decided tonise it thursday evening as im WFH on friday. Im terrified of having diarrhoea…
ive ate really well today so proud of myself!

im vegetarian so i worry i will struggle with protein… there is only so much tofu, beans and seeds i can eat….

Mounraine · 14/05/2025 20:57

@tostaky I take on Thursday evening too, as Friday is an easier / more flexible day for me at work. I haven't had diarrhoea at all (the opposite was a problem until I started with fibre gummies).

ElsieJay · 14/05/2025 21:18

@PandyMoanyMum Frozen grapes are your friend !

2old4thisshit · 14/05/2025 21:50

w1day3
side effects are not great. Yesterday had a bad headache all day, felt sick most of the day too. Had a salad and a cereal to eat.
Today, I ate fruit, salad for lunch and dinner. My headache is a lot better, horrible eggy burps and still feeling sick. In the last hour I’ve had a few bouts of bad diarrhoea.
feeling really tired and off to bed very soon.
I’m really hoping things settle down soon.

Prunes! I’ve never really had them much before, started getting a bit constipated this week so started eating them as a snack and I absolutely love them. Plus they are full of all the good stuff, fibre, vits and minerals etc

Leveluplou · 14/05/2025 22:51

Oops I'm 300 messages behind! I've got my first weigh in tomorrow. I wouldn't say I've had lots of suppression this week, but I've tried to make some healthier choices so hopefully the scales are nice to me

This happened to me too, I’m on week 2 now and due to jab again on Sunday - will keep you posted on if it happens again - because as I understand it the medication builds in your system so I’m hopeful it won’t continue!

BluNavy · 15/05/2025 06:18

@Oakhouse did they say why you should avoid caffeine? I have at least two cups of coffee in the morning and have gotten into these protein iced coffees and probably one tea a day. I'm on week 3 and haven't changed my caffeine habits.

Sia9 · 15/05/2025 06:56

@ElsieJaylove that meme 🤣

W2D5 here. Nausea has worn off and woke hungry today. Weighed myself and 3lbs down this week, that’s 7lb over 2 weeks. I can’t believe it.

SE for me is extreme nausea for first 2/3 days which means I barely eat which is not good. Feels exactly like when being pregnant in first trimester ! Out for dinner on Sunday at a really nice restaurant 2days post my 3rd jab so that will be interesting !

Hope everyone has a good day x

I have a question, do the side effects lessen overall or do they return once you’ve done the next dose?
I'm wondering how long term they are, I’ve had to call in sick today and can’t keep doing that.
thanks
