Couldn't see a thread for may but hoping I can find fellow starters to chat with. I've opted to go with SheMed and have just received my blood test kit through so should be starting within the next week or 2!

@Peachblossom25 yesterday I weighed myself first thing, then about 1 hour later I had big 💩 and when I weighed myself immediately after I'd lost 1 lb 🤣🤣🤣 I hadn't been for a few days.

On a serious note, I got a new set of smart scales and I've become a bit obsessed with them. It's surprising to see how much my weight fluctuates through the week but I'm not recording the intermediate weigh ins, just one a week. That once a week weigh in is what I use to track my weight loss. Trust the process, MJ will do its thing.

Also, remember that weight loss can be proportional. So if you're thinking your weekly loss is disappointing because others are losing more, it may be that those people losing more per week have are heavier. A 2% weight loss for a 16 stone person is naturally lower than a 20 stone person (4 lb vs 6lb in fact).

Welcome to the thread. I'm 71 and it's great to see someone else here in my age bracket! Good luck.
I'm W2 day1 so have just done my second WLI. Lost 8 3lbs in the first week. I was worried about having worse side effects being older but so far that's not the case - just a bit of heartburn.

Height 5 ft 2
SW 14st 8
Current W 14 st
Short term goal 13 st

Me too, aged 70 and in my 5 th day, ideally like to lose 2 st. Fingers crossed it helps.
i’m a snacker and so far haven’t had the cravings to snack, but struggling to know what to eat re protein etc to be in calorie deficit.
May change next week to eating normally with smaller portions

WhynotJanet · 14/05/2025 12:40

Hi everyone. Hope your side effects lessen/disappear soon. I’m in week 2 day 3 and have been having lower back pain for a couple of weeks and it’s not something that I normally suffer from unless I’ve been standing for a long time. I was out and about over the weekend for hours and only really noticed the pain within the last 2-3 days. I’m getting them on waking and most of the day. Is anyone else getting back pain? I can’t work out whether MJ is causing it or not. Apart from some burping a couple of days ago, no other symptoms.

Mounraine · 14/05/2025 12:15

Flowers@Col28 can you chat to your GP or prescriber about this? Do you have a lot to lose?

My GP wants to give Mounjaro on NHS but she can't it has to be a Weight Management Clinic & the wait is ridiculous. It's ironic tbh as I retired at 70 from 34 years in the NHS. Healthexpress know about my conditions & seemed happy to accept me. If I don't improve I will contact my GP. I have left side pain right now, I think the injection has flared my Divaticulitis. Unbelievable. Most people float through this treatment...not me, sadly.

Elle771 · 14/05/2025 13:03

First pen arrives tomorrow... excited and also wondering if I'm like the one person it won't work for?! 😅🙈😬

Elle771 · 14/05/2025 13:04

Any recommendations to throw in food shop too?
I'm sensing portions will be small so I'll try and get some little things, and protein seems to be a big one although apart from eggs and cold meats or Tinned fish am not sure what else to throw in there..

Is zero cal squash like vimto ok??

ConfusedMiddleAger83 · 14/05/2025 13:16

On W1D5 here, minimal side effects but also not had any appetite suppression yet although I think I am starting to feel full and stop eating quicker. I also seem to fancy healthier options.

My smart scales say I have lost 5lb but also worryingly that that is entirely muscle and no fat loss. I’m going to hope they are confused with all the extra fluids I have been drinking and can’t tell what is what!

My (adult) DD has told me to stop going on about it all so will have to just share on here, have rather been obsessing about scales and food etc.

Feeling really energetic and positive today!

Mounraine · 14/05/2025 13:49

@Elle09 what kind of diet do you subscribe to, is probably the best place to start. I am pretty much on the Zoe Nutrition / Doctor's Kitchen bandwagon - variety of plants, lots of fibre and protein and minimise UPFs. I don't calorie count. I do practise time-restricted eating.
You could add fresh seafood such as salmon and prawns for a big protein hit, and start sneaking in smaller sources of protein such as beans and seeds to reach protein goals.

@Col28 maybe we should start a Side Effects Survivors club/thread!

In terms of weighing, I'm a daily weigher, but like PP only record the weight on a Friday. From what I've read/watched/heard there's no real consensus as to what is best - daily, weekly or monthly. I think we have to each work out what is best for us personally.

SilkCottonTree · 14/05/2025 13:57

Week 1 day 6 for me and I can feel the appetite suppression is wearing off, however the food noise is still quiet and I been able to make good food choices so far today - just feeling hungrier at meal times than the past few days, so I am ready for the second jab tomorrow!

Mounraine · 14/05/2025 14:00

@SilkCottonTree I try to use day 5-7 hunger as practice for maintenance. (Full disclosure - I have completely failed on that this week!).

Col28 · 14/05/2025 14:58

minerva7 · 14/05/2025 11:31

Good to see you keeping on @Mounraine
It is really difficult for some of us. I’m 3 weeks in to my 3rd 5mg pen and was up all night with bad stomach cramps before vomiting up all my dinner about 5am. The diahorrea has just started.
I wouldn’t mind but I’ve not lost in 3 weeks and suppression isn’t great at all.
Still keeping to 1200 calories max and eating lots of healthy things. So I guess I need 7.5. That means another week of illness while I adjust.
Noone ever said it was gonna be easy… but I do envy the super responders sometimes 😂

I thought I was the only one suffering.
I do feel for you it's horrible to feels so washed out & drained. I have two friends (much younger than me) & neither have had funny colour 💩 poop. I just don't understand why it's so horrible with me. My tummy is bloated too. 😫

Can someone give me a good talking too please?!
I’m W2D5. I got into the habit of weighing everyday as I was excited to see weight loss. I lost 4lbs last week ( stupidly I was a bit disappointed as I keep seeing people losing 7+lbs in the first week )
Anyway this week. I weighed on day 2 and was 2lbs down. Yay! But then the next day it was up 1lb and then today another 1lb on. 😩 I even weighed myself again an hour later in case my scales were wrong and it had gone up again even though I haven’t yet eaten today!! I’m getting obsessed with weighing and it’s really not good for me. I feel so deflated.

My sensible head knows that perhaps it’s just normal fluctuations - Water retention and I’ve been a bit constipated so maybe I just need a big poo! I’ve had great suppression and no food noise really and I’m definitely under my calories.

I know I’m expecting miracles and I’m super impatient so I just need someone to give me some tough love and tell me stop obsessing and that the weight will come off!!

I've got caught in the weigh in betweens and they fluctuate madly. One day 1.5lbs down from the previous day, the next day 1lb up. I do also think that mild constipation plays a part as well.

I've decided it is far more sensible to weigh once a week on the same morning and gauge it on a weekly basis. This is my approach going forward which I did previously before injections. I also do it on a Thursday first thing so I'm mindful for the weekend and don't do Monday morning that can reflect a busier social weekend calendar.

BerfyTigot · 14/05/2025 15:31

Well no side effects yet, apart from waking in the night and googling mj and vivid dreams! It's apparently common.

Just beginning to feel hunger pangs. Though I've had some fruit, an egg and a packet of Baked crisps 😇.

Same here , @SilkCottonTree .
Just made a brew, and for the first time
quite fancied a biscuit with it - luckily, we did didn’t have any !
Due to have my second jab tomorrow evening and my first weigh-in on Friday morning .
Plan to use the scales in the local Boots, they showed the same as my home ones when I did the “application weigh” so I’m pretty sure they’ll be accurate .
Mine can vary if I don’t place them in the exact same spot every time .

Finding this made me giggle today !

New side effect today for me anyway..sleep paralysis! Had a nap and woke up but couldn’t move my body really scary. Shouted at myself in my head and came out of it-was probably only a couple of minutes but didn’t know that was possible?
Anyway the diarrhoea continues too - I’m day 3 only week one. Can’t tell if I have appetite suppression or just feel ill.

Phat2fin · 14/05/2025 16:47

@Peachblossom25 I’m a daily weigher but I log every weight in the Apple Health App and it gives you an ‘average weight’ so although my daily weight fluctuates I can see my average weight for this week is less than last week - so that’s a win

That does sound scary is this a common side effect?!

I'm a daily weigher...I use an app called Libra to record my weight and it gives me an average so easier to not get annoyed by the ups and downs.

That’s a good idea! I wasn’t aware of that function. I will be using that too - going forward. Thank you.

Oh, that's hard to read @minerva7 Flowers. I feel sad reading your words about how you feel about your body, but as someone with a similar weight change when hitting perimenopause it does resonate. I mean, whose is this belly and where has it come from?

Thank you 🥰
Exactly that! And it was so insidious! This awful belly snuck up when I wasn’t looking!
I really wish you the best with your Mounjaro journey. Let’s not let it beat us ❤️

Apprenante · 14/05/2025 18:29

@Col28 I'm so sorry that you're having such a bad time. Given your pre-existing medical conditions I think you should definitely try to see your GP. Good luck 💐

I weigh every day because of fluctuations. I go up and down all week and that's fine. I just take a weekly average and as long as the trend is down overall I can be happy it's fat loss I'm seeing (as opposed to water for example).
I'd be more deflated if I weighed once a week and that just happened to be a day I had fluctuated upwards. I just treat it as data, record it and move on.

minerva7 · 14/05/2025 18:50

Col28 · 14/05/2025 12:00

I wonder whether I'm suffering so much with cramps & diarrhoea is because I have no gallbladder. I have a Hiatus Hernia plus Divaticulur. Maybe, all that has made reaction so bad with me. My pooo is blackish-dark green too. I'm not sure I can handle my 2nd jab next Monday tbh. At 71, I'm beginning to think I just want some peace. 😔
Thank you for listening. xxx

Col mine is the same colour and I’m getting the same side effects as you. I hope that stops you worrying so much about your gall bladder as I still have mine.
Worth a conversation with doc though definitely 💐
