Leveluplou · 29/04/2025 14:21

Couldn't see a thread for may but hoping I can find fellow starters to chat with. I've opted to go with SheMed and have just received my blood test kit through so should be starting within the next week or 2!

I'm also 71, had 1st jab earlier this evening.
I'm hoping I'll be ok but having no gallbladder & hiatus hernia is worrying me. But at 22 stone my knees are suffering & I have dreadful Osteoarthritis too.
Good luck to everyone xxx

Welcome @Col28 . Like you I'm 71 and I'm currently wk2 day 5. When I saw that MJ was only available up to age 74 it spurred me into taking action.
I wondered if it was maybe not going to work as i was too old - i dont feel old - but it seems to be ok.
I've lost about 8lbs so far and side effects have been minimal. I'm normally a snacker and so far haven't had a single snack. In fact I've had to give myself a talking to about eating more.

DidILeaveTheGasOn · 13/05/2025 10:52

@hottubsundays I got MJ via The Independent Pharmacy and this is the advice they gave on how to manage nausea:

  • Nausea:
  • Keep your fluids up by drinking plenty of water
  • If you are unable to keep water down, please speak with your GP or call NHS 111 for an urgent same-day appointment
  • Avoid trigger foods/smells
  • Try smaller meals
  • Eat foods containing ginger- such as ginger biscuits
  • Try antiemetics (anti-nausea medicines) such as Ondansetron or Buccastem

You could also try Phenergan, which is an drowsy antihistamine (take 1-2 tablets at night). This treats hayfever, travel sickness and temporary insomnia.

@Elle771 morning! I’ve also got about 8st to loose. Only just started so can’t comment on the moving up doses but hoping to do it as slowly as possible and planning on going up half doses rather than full doses to make it take longer.

I'm on day 4 and wish I hadn’t waited so long to take the plunge! Good luck & I hope you feel like I do soon!!!

Ooh glad I'm not alone in shifting big numbers!
Just want to get cracking now lol!!

Breakfast: High protein porridge - I bought it accidentally ages ago rather than the ordinary kind.

Lunch: My partner made mackerel pate out of mackerel, quark, lime juice & black pepper, and had that with a red onion, tomato and lettuce salad and some toasted olive bread. It was divine.

That pate sounds delicious! What a great idea to use quark. The protein content must have been fab.

LessWeightKate · 13/05/2025 12:46

@Mounraine I'm so sorry to read that you can't continue. You have given such great advice - what a loss to the group! I really hope your health settles down soon. 💐

WhynotJanet · 13/05/2025 12:51

I could have written your post! Week one done yesterday, lost 5lbs. Not seen this side of 14st for a long time. Lost another 2lbs between weighing myself yesterday morning( jab day) and weighing myself this morning. Sure it’s still water weight but I’m not aiming for huge weight losses each week. I had some burps last night which didn’t happen last week. Also I haven’t told my DH or anyone yet, he’s also away working and doesn’t fly back until the end of the week. Think I am going to tell him when he comes back. What about you?

LessWeightKate · 13/05/2025 12:54

I just had a video call with a pharmacist at Pillsorted, who came up as the cheapest for my next jab after discounts etc. At first I thought the call was a bit of an unnecessary faff, but it was super useful because I found out that I was woefully underestimating how much protein I needed.

I had been working on .8 grams per kilo of bodyweight. She explained why I should aim for 1.2 - 1.4, which is lot more.

Now I just need to figure out how to get what essentially is another whole meal down my throat when I already don't want to eat! 😅

AlicesMum2025 · 13/05/2025 13:19

TMI ALERT 🚨

I've been constipated since Saturday so I took some senna last night. Weighed myself at 8am, had 💩 at 9:30 and then weighed again and as a result I lost 0.5kg/ 1 lb !!!!!! 🤣🤣

Just ordered my next pen 5mg from IQ Doctor, same supplier as last time. Order was confirmed within 8 mins! I have ordered my next pen early because I'm trying to coordinate with my paydays.

On the subject of dreams, I had a really cool one that Samuel L Jackson came to my house to install new worktops! I'm not a vivid dreamer normally 🤣

Col28 · 13/05/2025 14:12

I only started last evening & was ok-ish. But after having my usual porridge with blueberries & fat free greek yoghurt I had to rush to loo & had awful cramps & about 3 bouts of explosive diarrhoea. I was going out but cancelled it. Does this stop girls? xxx

I'm not sure I'm doing this right as I can't see a reply button. I'm hoping someone else might be experiencing explosive diarrhoea. I only start Mounjaro last evening but breakfast porridge went straight through me. I really want this to work for me.

Bundleflower · 13/05/2025 15:05

Day 3 - just realised that my hunger has well and truly disappeared when I realised it was time to go for the school run and I haven’t eaten a thing yet. Usually I’d have had plenty by now. Going to make sure I have a little something when I get back.

(Feel like I’m posting on her an awful lot - apologies! I’ve nobody really to discuss this with atm)

26dX · 13/05/2025 15:10

just started my 3rd week and down 9.8lbs! Ordered my next pen but decided to stay on 2.5mg as it’s working for me, I swapped providers so I could get a discount again 😂

PinkponyclubOG · 13/05/2025 09:50

Hello! 👋🏻

Wondered if I could join, though I imagine if I started the application process now I’d be a June starter.

I have been considering WLI for as long as I can remember but they have just always felt like such a severe way to do and maintain something that a lot of people find easy. Reading about everyone loss’s has really inspired me though and lots of posters have resonated, especially SE being a walk in the park compared to with health complications further down the line and also the mid week wine noise being muffled. I also would love to have more energy and more buzz for life.

I just still have so many questions…

I feel really emotional about it but I don’t think I can tell DH, at least not to start with. I think he will think it’s too much money, potentially not safe and also likely will make some very unhealthy and likely condescending comments about how I just need to do more exercise, he’s a wonderful husband but has a very black and white approach to life and be flippant about the daily trial’s that is us women go through, ie peri, anxiety, burnout from responsibility etc I just think there is a good chance he wouldn’t be very supportive..

Question is for those in similar situations and doing it on your own, how do you pay for it if you have a joint bank account? Our current account is the only one we have and other than my own Paypal account wouldn’t have any other way to buy it without him knowing.

Also (possibly a trait of being ND) how do I pick which company do go with? So many and it’s blowing my mind!! As above I would likely want to go for the cheapest and don’t feel like I would need a lot support from the company I bought it from (lots of apps, support pages and MN for that) but on the table suggested up thread say prices as low as £90 for the first jab however when I click on it and research prices much more, what is the average price for 2.5 starter injection.

What is the golden dose?!

Any specific threads you think would help me to get started?..

Thanks everyone in advance, you’re all doing amazing.

I haven’t told my OH, only my mum. Not that he’d think anything of it but I’m more embarrassed than anything, I feel when I lose nearing 2 stone I’ll tell him 😂 I have PCOS which I don’t think he really understands but my doctor basically said we have to try 10x harder than a normal body to lose weight sadly. I’m on week 3 and feel great.

if you decide to bite the bullet I have a discount code for medexpress xx

Optimum19 · 13/05/2025 15:16

I can sympathise @Bundleflower & @PinkponyclubOG I am due my second dose tomorrow. I haven't told anyone. When I mentioned injections to my husband a few weeks ago he was very dismissive & told me not to be ridiculous. He's been away a few days, but I know I'll not mention any injections when he does get back. I have told him I've been eating well and haven't had a drink since he's been away. I have my own bank account, as well as a joint one, but I'll have to remember to get my next dose delivered to my work. Down 5lb in the 6 days, another 30lb to go. Good luck everyone

Day 3 on 2.5? That bodes really well!

I am posting loads on here too, and it really helps me to read the posts from others.

SlipperyLizard · 13/05/2025 15:24

I’ve told my DH and my sister, DH is very supportive of it makes me happy (I earn more than him so thankfully no money worries). My sister was also happy for me.

I feel like I shouldn’t hesitate to tell people, but a weird part of me doesn’t want to. I will likely tell people who would reasonably be upset if I lied to them, once the weight loss becomes obvious.

Took my second injection yesterday, still no real side effects. I’m hoping I can stay on 2.5 for a while as I’m getting good appetite suppression but no food revulsion and I’m able to eat without any issue (I just don’t really have much of an appetite and can’t overeat!).

I bought some psyllium husk at the weekend to help with fibre, and saw that it said you can mix it into a smoothie so I did that this morning and it was soooo grim, I will do it just with water next time and down it asap!

That's interesting. I put psyllium husk in my smoothies and it's fine. Perhaps our smoothies are very different to each other.

I have never been a breakfast person so all I can face in the morning is vanilla protein powder with water, x2 psyllium husk, and frozen fruit.

Thank you for that, it's helpful to know I'm not the only one. I'm scared to eat now incase it happens again. I've just drank some water so hopefully it will stay in me.
What a drama. Thank you again.

Col28 · 13/05/2025 15:59

Since that horrible bout of diarrhoea this morning I haven't eaten anything. I will have a small meal this evening & hopefully it stays where it should. Maybe, it's just trial & error food wise & the diarrhoea will settle. I'm due 2nd injection next Monday. I'm praying this works for me so I can lose enough weight to have knee surgery 🙏.

Yes - I’m just completely unbothered. Your response has reminded me I still haven’t eaten actually. Long may this continue! Although I’ll have to be mindful to make sure I do eat enough as don’t want hair loss etc.
I seem to have put weight on though. Hmmmm.

SussexLass87 · 13/05/2025 16:31

I've also only told my husband - a friend asked if I was "doing something different" and just wasn't ready to mention the Mounjaro yet. So I also don't really have anyone to talk to about it!

I've really forced myself to eat today (jammy boiled eggs and some boiled gammon with salad) Very small portion but feel better for it, less lightheaded. Don't really want to eat, but I'm thinking I didn't eat enough the last 2 weeks. We will see...🙏

BluNavy · 13/05/2025 16:56

@ScotsLassie6 I'm getting the high protein shakes from lidl. They have quite a few flavours. They also have a high protein coffee by arctic coffee that is really nice and a high protein yogurt pouch by Graham's that is tasty.
