Couldn't see a thread for may but hoping I can find fellow starters to chat with. I've opted to go with SheMed and have just received my blood test kit through so should be starting within the next week or 2!

End of day 2 for me and haven’t had many side effects thankfully. I’m still thinking about food all the time but it has been difficult to eat full meals and I haven’t been snacking. Unheard of for me! I’m enjoying feeling in control of my eating as I’ve been out of control for so long.

Mounjaronew · 05/05/2025 23:02

End of first day.
main things i noted, 1. Did a wee run before breakfast. Didn’t feel hungry at all in the morning. Ate small porridge with grapes. Went to beach for swim. 2. Didn’t feel at all hungry in afternoon. Normally i am starving after run and swim and buy a carb laden shop bought sandwich usually chicken and bacon mayo. Didn’t even think of doing that. 3. Didn’t have early dinner like i usually do. Didn’t feel hungry at all really. Eventually had small steak with garlic mushrooms. 4. Definitely no hunger pangs at all, all day. 5. No side effects yet. 6. I was very tired after the swim and had shower lay down and found it very difficult to get back up. That is normal for me though

Phat2fin · 05/05/2025 23:41

I’ve not had side effects today fortunately - although I was also much hungrier. Managed to eat a decent amount: fruit with some nuts for lunch, then homemade lasagna for dinner. I ate less lasagna than I normally would but probably ate more than I should have as I felt stuffed afterwards. My total calories for the day was around 900. Much better than yesterday when I only managed a yoghurt and 3 strawberries.

@Lovecycling thanks a lot!

So just before I answer about the dosing , my ethos was:

  • I have a lot to lose, so I don’t want to go up the doses too fast and risk getting to the highest possible dose while still having a lot to lose and having nowhere to go from there. So I decided to go slow.
  • I also decided to stay on a dose for as long as possible until that dose is exhausted, meaning that I stayed on each dose until I had 1-2 weeks of no loss at all on it.
  • I also decided to do my own interim doses, so I don’t have adverse reactions from jumping up.

I was on 2.5mg for maybe 6-7 weeks, then I decided to up my dose a little to 3.75 mg and stayed on that for 3-4 weeks, before moving up to 5 mg for 8 - 10 weeks, before moving up to 6.25 mg for another 6-8 weeks, and then finally up to 7.5 mg which is what I’ve stayed on.

RE calorie deficit, I used one of those TDEE calculators to work it out, for my height/weight/sedentary levels etc it was 1300. So I aimed for anything between 1200 and 1400 calories. I found for me it worked naturally with my appetite suppression to have a smidge less calories earlier in the week and a smidge more than the goal later in the week. The total for the week was still on track though.

Quick note re calorie deficit I want to call out though is that you do not want to be on a super strict low deficit, because:

  • over time your metabolism slows down
  • as you lose weight and get to a smaller weight you’d want to continuously re-calculate your deficit as obvs you need less calories when you’re in a smaller body. If you start from something crazy like 1000 calories, you basically have nowhere to go from there.
Lovecycling · 06/05/2025 07:52

Thanks @3wDavid
this is so useful. I’d like to stay as low as I can with the doses too. I’m weight training and want to be able to eat enough to sustain that so don’t want full on suppression. it’s good to see you can stay on relatively low doses and get to target!
I’ve done my tdee which is about 2300 atm and aiming to eat 1600. It’s been easy to keep to that this week.

You could probably up the cals , it all depends how quickly you want to lose, ie 2 lbs loss a week would be a lot less calories than if you’re happy with 1 lb a week. So if you feel you need a bit more, you can probably bump up to 1800 cals and still lose but at a slightly slower pace!

It's almost the end of week one for me. Thought I'd share my experience so far:

Sleeping terribly. I wake really early which is annoying and can't get back to sleep.

Two bouts of nausea. I think it's because I've taken some vitamins first thing in the morning before eating anything and it been the only thing in my system. The first time I lay down and the second I had some yogurt and banana and that helped.

Constipation - not as bad as I feared! But definitely experiencing some.

Headaches- had some strong headaches at points.

Huge appetite suppression. Fairly consistently every day. Meals haven't been fully eaten and snacking is almost non existent.

I weighed myself on day 5 and had lost 2.9kg.

Trying to drink 2-3 litres of water and focusing on proteins and tracking calories.

sunshinesandringham · 06/05/2025 10:04

I’m due to receive my first pen today, sat waiting for the postman! Feeling a little apprehensive but also very excited.Weighed myself this morning and that was a shock. Really hoping for little to no side effects. I know this is the may start page but had anyone already had any weight loss?

Iggy35 · 06/05/2025 10:15

I also wanted to share my experience.

Started on Friday morning - so today is day 5 for me (I injected right after I picked up the injection, as couldn't wait to start)

Head some light headache day 1 but then it went away.

Also had light nausea on day 2, but I think it was because I didn't eat much.

Constipation, started taking fiber tablets on day 3 and it seems to be returning to normal (slowly)

I'm also burping more than usual (not sulphur burps, just normal ones).

I weighed myself this morning, I have lost 2.6 kg (about 5.5 lbs).

Lastly, on hunger /appetite.
My appetite was non existent for the fist 3 days. It now stated to return slowly (I'm not craving food, but the thought of eating doesn't make me feel 🤢 anymore). As for hunger, I still don't feel any hunger at all. I try to eat 3 times a day at normal times (brekkie/lunch/dinner), but consider this more of a obligation rather than desperation (I lived to eat before so this is a completely new concept to me).

I'll try to get into habit only weighing myself once a week, on injection day, but was too eager to know.

I think we are having very similar journey. So nice to see/hear from other people going through this at the same time!

GherkinsOnToast · 06/05/2025 10:29

I had my first injection on Saturday - was going to leave it until mid-week so could avoid taking on a work trip next week but figured it's now or I'll put it off forever!

I had a bit of a feeling like I was getting a cold but a good night's sleep helped. I had a rocking headache yesterday but realised the lack of appetite also means I'm not craving my usual diet drinks, so was probably dehydrated. I couple of bottles of water later I felt much better.

I have zero interest in food, normally by now Id have had tea and a biscuit, a bowl of cereal or porridge and more tea, then morning tea-break tea and biscuits/snacks. I forced a slice of wholemeal toast in before work and 2 glasses of water now I'm so full it's uncomfortable.

@Iggy35 what fibre tablets are you taking?

I'm taking a daily vitamin, and some things by well guard. I'm looking at some magnesium to help me sleep.

I have a friend who is 5 stone down in six months and they have been religious about vitamins

SlipperyLizard · 06/05/2025 11:07

No side effects for me so far after my injection last night, too early in the day to tell whether my appetite is suppressed (or rather how much) as I’m very rarely hungry in the morning anyway (I just more than make up for it later in the day!).

I’m planning on having this strawberry shake for lunch to get some protein in, then something sensible for tea.

I'm taking Psyllium Husk Fibre (got it in Holland & Barrett) - it's very pricy but if it helps me on this journey ita worth every penny

I'm also taking A-Z vitamins I got from boots.

Are you taking anything?

BluNavy · 06/05/2025 11:25

@Iggy35
I'm specifically taking:
Women's multivitamin from Lidl
Well Guard Gut Star
Well Guard My Journey

I am waiting to receive:
Well Guard Cherry Aid to promote good sleep and support muscle recovery and immune system.
Hey Nutrition Collagen complex - really expensive but my research suggests this is a good one.

Minime88888888 · 06/05/2025 11:47

I've just injected! I'm with MyJuniper. I'm now hunting for a discount code for month 2, if they exist.

Herewegoagain80 · 06/05/2025 12:02

I’m at the halfway point of week 1 and I honestly feel no different than I did before the injection. I’ve had no side effects, no suppression and no weight loss.
Well done to everyone who’s doing well so far and hopefully I’ll catch up once it gets to a higher level in my system.

MyScaredCat · 06/05/2025 12:53

Coming to end of week 1 and I am really looking forward to my 2nd dose in the morning. Today is the first day I’ve felt really hungry. Struggling not to snack today. Definitely need the top up.
had a weigh this morning and it’s showing 6lbs loss so I’m very happy with that.
I wouldn’t say I’ve experienced side effects. I’m not a great sleeper anyway so can’t see much difference there.
i wouldn’t have the best digestion normally either, so the burping isn’t hugely different. Unfortunately im normally a delight that way 🤣
i would suffer mild constipation normally, so i take a daily inulin supplement from H&B daily so I haven’t noticed that being a problem either

Mounraine · 06/05/2025 13:54

I felt like that when I did fast 800, it was awful. I wonder if you would feel better if you upped your food? Are you tracking macros?

Thank you @Lovecycling I am working on my protein at the moment, so I am tracking on NutraCheck. I am used to doing TRE at least 16:8 but sometimes periods of 24, 36-hour fasts too. Never felt like this whilst fasting :(

sunshinesandringham · 06/05/2025 13:57

Pen arrived and first dose done. Time to get some vitamins and supplements ordered , had anyone got a collagen they recommend?

Bear in mind that I know nothing about insulin etc. but one of my sons is a diabetes practitioner.

He told me that even though I'm not diabetic, this medication does something to our levels that might clash with fasting. He saw me being quite low and shaky one morning and suggested a few gulps of OJ first thing would help.

I almost instantly felt so much better, but I understand that you might want to keep fasting!

I've just ordered Hey Nutrition Collagen Complex. My research suggested this one was good and had a high dose. I haven't tried it yet though so can't recommend. It's pricey.
There is a powder by Well Guard a friend really likes which I may try if this tablet doesn't work for me.

Hysterectomynext · 06/05/2025 14:23

I don’t want to put anyone off because I’m still excited about the prospect of not being obese.
but my gosh I’m feeling sick today. I have been wide awake since early Sunday morning. Not even 5 mins of sleep.
I put it down to not eating enough for my body. I just had a small amount of food and thought I was going to vomit. Daughter had to run for bucket.

My first injection was last Thursday afternoon. I have lost 2.2kg which I’m thrilled with but at the same time I’m barely eating so that’s not healthy or sustainable.

I’m posting wondering if others have had the same issues and whether it’s something that settles. If I don’t sleep tonight I’m going to be in terrible trouble tomorrow because I have a very big work day. And a night out after that.

Hysterectomynext · 06/05/2025 14:24

Is collagen needed?

Should I take protein powders too? Any tips gratefully appreciated

BrienneMonroe · 06/05/2025 14:36

Hiya. First jab was Friday. Was fine all day until last night. Bloody hell. Woke up around midnight feeling nauseous and stupidly dizzy. Made it to the loo not knowing which end to aim at the loo….far tmi….sorry!

Made the right choice with two episodes of diarrheoa. Not overly watery but gross. Had to lay on the cool bathroom floor for 20mins until it passed.

Woke up feeling ok this morning had a very plain brekkie. Had another bout of much more fluid poop but not the nausea/dizziness. I can handle the runs but if the dizziness/nausea is a regular thing I don’t think I’ll be able to stick with MJ. It makes me feel so panicky, honestly like I am going to pass out - anyone know why? I am not a panicky person at all!

Have lost 3.6lbs so far…couldn’t resist weighing myself
