Just started Mounjaro? Friendly chat and support right here!

My starting weight: 104kg
Would love to lose 30kg over time

Have just started the first dose - no side effects so far. Appetite has disappeared. Cautiously hopeful about the future!

Good luck to anyone else starting their weight-loss journey too. Would love to hear from you!

Week 1 weigh in for me

SW 106 kgs
CW 103 kgs
GW 76 kgs

So 4,5 lbs weight loss

No nasty side effects at all, just a decrease in appetite

Feeling happy enough with that

Does anyone else find themselves thinking constantly about the fact they aren’t thinking of food constantly? 🤣

I am thinking about EVERYTHING - I swear my brain is like 90% MJ at the moment - am I hungry (if I am the feeling passes so quickly) Although I'm still thinking about food its just my first dose and it's only 2.5mg so mindful of that - AND even if I am thinking about it I'm not 'fancying/needing' the food - just thinking but the desire to eat has gone

I also haven't eaten any chocolate whatsoever in 2 days - that is unheard of for me.

I could reply to each of you here - my brain isn't organised enough I'm sorry!

Can I just ask about sleep? It wasn't my strongest ability anyway (thanks MH and perimenopause!) never has been but this is mental - I finally fell asleep at midnight and woke up at 5.

MJSpideySenses · 10/02/2025 06:33

@mysparkleismissing I agree! I'm having to make a real effort to not keep talking about it to DH!
I went out for lunch yesterday for a family birthday. I decided to have whatever I wanted and stop eating when I felt full. It actually worked and rather than the usual weight gain after a meal out, I've continued to lose. I'm amazed. I feel so positive and excited by it all that I can't stop thinking about it.

pinkcow123 · 10/02/2025 06:49

I'm finding it easier to avoid sweet treats. But my issues is, when I start to feel full and I still have food on my plate - I'm enjoying it. So I want to eat more.
I have started to put less on my plate - but think I need to put even less on! And if I'm still hungry go up and get some more!

Choux · 09/02/2025 23:40

What evidence do you have of high cholesterol? It could be the guidelines released this week are making ZAVA wary of approving you as your BMI is only just above 27.

They didn’t ask for any evidence although I have a stack of GP tests to prove the high cholesterol. I’m not sure that I will be able to get it from anywhere else if regs are tightening up.

Dunkou · 10/02/2025 07:54

@RememberDecember try MedExpress. I got it from them a couple of months ago in exact same circumstance (BMI 27 and cholesterol). They have stated they haven't changed any of their policies since the tightening up, as they feel they are already rigorous.

Choux · 10/02/2025 08:01

@RememberDecember with BMI 27.2 and cholesterol you do (just) meet the criteria for prescription. Is 27.2 on an average / bad day or first thing in the morning when weighing yourself naked?

If there is a way to communicate with Zava I would send them a screenshot of your GP cholesterol tests and ask for more details on why you were rejected. They may not change their minds but it might help get some info which could help with getting approved with another supplier.

There are a lot of suppliers and you do meet the criteria so it may just be a case of applying elsewhere.

RememberDecember · 10/02/2025 08:37

Thanks @Dunkou, I have just applied via Med Express, will see how get on there. I was surprised not to have to submit any photos!

@Choux i suspect it is because I am just on the cusp of being acceptable weight, presumably they have plenty of people applying who firmly meet the criteria so don’t need to bother with less certain applicants, esp with talk of tightening up regs.

Dunkou · 10/02/2025 08:55

@RememberDecember that's strange I definitely had to give photos.

Ilovelemonandsugarpancakes · 10/02/2025 10:01

Sounds like everyones doing so well! I'm on day 5 now and can mange portion sizes so much better. The main godsend for me has been the alcohol. Before MJ I drank wine every night but I havn't had a glass since my jab which is unheard of.
No negative side effects as such so consider myself extremely lucky. Wish I'd started ages ago!

ScottyDOESknow · 10/02/2025 10:13

Hello 👋 Hope I'm not too late to join.

Took my 2nd dose of 2.5mg Saturday
Had great suppression in my 1st week. Struggled with weight my whole adult life. Lost 4 stone previously falling in love with exercise but an injury put me out for 12 months and the weight has piled back on. I'm active again lifting weights, jogging and taking PT sessions but I cannot fix my obsession with food. If I'm stressed I eat, sad I eat, happy I eat, bored...yes I eat 🫣

Height 5"3
SW: 183lbs
GW 135-140lbs ish.
Week one: -2lbs

Probablyawake · 10/02/2025 10:19

Not sure when to start now! Was thinking Thursday as I work from home Friday and Monday so have a few days at home in case of side effects. But my week has changed now so I could take it today, but then moving forward Thurs eve or Friday would be best.
Think I'm just desperate to get going. But are there any issues with changing the injection day? So if I did today and moved to wed/Thu week after? Is that stupid? 🤔

ClaireMarieJXN · 10/02/2025 10:35

Can I please ask (forgive my lack of knowledge but I'm only on W2d3) what is the 'golden/bonus dose' and what do i do with it?

MinkaLeDinka · 10/02/2025 11:12

Having procrastinated for weeks I ordered through MedExpress my delivery came on Saturday.

I was very nervous about actually injecting myself but did it on Sunday and I’m not sure that I did a good job of it.

I slept very well last but feel absolutely nothing - food noise is as bad as ever.

Im wondering if I didn’t inject myself properly ?

Trying to stay calm and go with it for the next week but it’s difficult.

Ke11 · 10/02/2025 11:17

@MinkaLeDinka I wouldn't worry, from what I've read this is a medication that is supposed to build up over time, you might not notice much but as the weeks go on it'll gradually take effect. The good thing is it sounds like you haven't had any side effects either yet.

I thought mine had worn off after a few days but actually I am noticing the fullness after smaller portions as the week has gone on. Also I'm drinking loads more water than I did before, at least 2 liters a day or more. Got 0cal electrolyte tabs in to give it some taste.

Justtryingthis · 10/02/2025 11:27

Week 1 complete!
Lost 6lb!! Absolutely thrilled, biggest loss in a week I’ve ever had.
Could definitely feel the suppression wearing off by Friday so ate 1200 calories as opposed to the 800 I’d been struggling with at the start of the week.
Had 2 glasses of wine on Friday night, lovely at the time but felt rough all day Saturday 🙄
Had a tiny roast dinner last night and had diarrhoea twice in the night, obviously too rich, gravy possibly?
Have already asked my coach if I can stay on 2.5 for another month as I’m struggling to eat and this will only get worse as I go through the month and she’s agreed that’s a good plan.
Other new side effects, slightly raised heart rate, feeling very cold and BO!!! Never had this before in my life 🤷‍♀️
Anyone else had these side effects? 🤔

Feb2025start · 10/02/2025 11:34

@ClaireMarieJXN hi! the 'bonus/golden' dose is the same as the 'fifth dose' explained upthread. It's basically an extra dose left in the pen when the first four weeks are up, which can be extracted by either twisting the pen hard (it apparently kind of locks after four doses) or by using an insulin needle - I think I'm going to buy these ones after getting advice on the main board -

0.3mL Unisharp 32G Super Fine 8mm Fixed Needle Syringe from £4.70

They're 0.3ml so to get a 0.6ml dose you'd need to use two needles.

More generally, if you want advice etc on things like this I find it's useful to post a separate question on the main board as everyone on this 'Feb starters' thread is a newbie too (I started on 1 Feb) - on the main board you'll get responses from the more experienced users 🙂

Feb2025start · 10/02/2025 11:45

@Justtryingthis I attempted a roast yesterday too and had a bit of a bad stomach this morning - first time since starting MJ. I only had a tiny plateful but it did include roast pork, stuffing, gravy, a bite of a Yorkshire pud and cauliflower cheese 😬so clearly just too rich! Oh well, hopefully the experience will keep me on track with 'eating clean'...

No other side effects for me except maybe feeling a bit cold (though I tend to feel the cold generally), but having 'MJ BO' seems to be something some people do experience - https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/weight-loss-injections/5270947-body-odor

Congrats on your loss!

Body Odor | Mumsnet

I have been on Mounjaro for two months , and have noticed an increase in BO. I normally have very little body odor... even if I forget to use an anti...

MogHog · 10/02/2025 12:00

SW 15.8st

I've been reading this thread for a few days as had my 1st 2.5mg jab on Saturday and have loved seeing if I'm feeling the same as everyone else is.

I've not had many side effects other than a lingering headache but tbh I had it before I injected on Sat and are prone to a few dayer so not 100% convinced they are connected.

I'd been doing quite well with just not fancying much to eat but this morning I've woken up starving. More so than I would be normally and I've already eaten my dinner which I couldn't finish yesterday and had the same thing ( made enough for 2 days). I'm hoping it's just as I've not eaten much and am trying to listen to my body and eat if I need to otherwise it's going to be a long few days until the next jab

MogHog · 10/02/2025 12:05

Just wanted to add that I am trying to get in 1000+ calories a day as anything less I don't feel would be healthy for me, so when I say I've not eaten much I did hit 980 call of clean healthy food yesterday.

I normally eat quite healthy anyway it's just the extras I have no self control over previously

LilacMoose · 10/02/2025 12:08

I am starting today. My pen has actually been sitting in the fridge since early Jan, but I had a holiday and then flu, so the timing hasn't been right. I'm trying to eat fairly light today and will inject just before bed, in the hopes of reducing any side effects.

I've only told DH so far who is supportive. He's does not struggle with food and is very athletic - he has never been unkind about my weight, but he does seem happy that I want to try and tackle it. I was about 4 stone lighter when we first met. I got an illness a few years ago that left me less active and food became a comfort. I am hoping this will help me quiet the constant food noise, the counting down the minutes until it's acceptable to eat lunch etc. I feel like I have tried everything else.

My starting weight is 95kg/209lbs, which at 5'7 gives me a BMI of 32.8. I'm not sure of my goal yet, I won't stop before I hit healthy which would be 69kg/153lbs, but it might be nice to be a little under that.

👏great loss!
I've had the opposite issue and been very backed up but fibre supplements sorted that quite quickly. I was worried about diarrhea as I'm a loose stool person but it's had the opposite effect. Aiming for 140g of protein per day so I should have known better 🫠

YourOchreSloth · 10/02/2025 12:40

My injections are arriving today, so excited. Did anyone go mad with their food just before, like it was the last time of indulging etc. I've put on around half a stone just doing that. DH is sceptical about the whole thing and "what are you going to do if this doesn't work". Trying to remain positive.

Dozycuntlaters · 10/02/2025 12:47

Due to take my 3rd jab tonight

Week 1 - 2.5 lbs off
Week 2 - 3lbs off

I'm pleased with that although I had had the most dreadful shits and haven't done a solid poo since I started it. However, not felt sick so I think I would rather it was this way round.

I am fretting already though about going up to the 5 - am I going to get even more explosive poohs? Right now I dont feel confident being away from home too long in case I need to go as you dont get that much warning for it lol. Undecided whether to stay on 2.5 or make the move up to 5.

Dozycuntlaters · 10/02/2025 12:51

@MinkaLeDinka Did you prime it first and see the liquid coming out? You should be able to look at your pen to see if the first dose has been used?

On my first one I was unsure if I had done it right and I still had a bit of food noise but it did settle down. I just kept thinking of all the money this is costing which stopped me giving in to it.
