Just started Mounjaro? Friendly chat and support right here!

My starting weight: 104kg
Would love to lose 30kg over time

Have just started the first dose - no side effects so far. Appetite has disappeared. Cautiously hopeful about the future!

Good luck to anyone else starting their weight-loss journey too. Would love to hear from you!

@OvertiredandConfused that's an amazing start! I hope my first weigh in will be as positive as that.

Stupid question, but what is "food noise" exactly? Blush

The suppression seems to be working fine - I really don't feel hungry! And was able to walk into Greggs with the DC yesterday to buy them a snack as we were out, and not get anything for myself despite the smells! A definite win.

I think the hardest thing for myself will be giving up takeaway coffees. I got quite used to getting a "nice" one after work as a pick-me-up, especially those winter ones with shit loads of cream and sweet syrups. Dread to think how many extra calories those are, but they've clearly got to go!

Re. telling others; I think it very much depends on what their position is. One friend (who I see almost daily) has the remnants of an eating disorder and has been trying to "shift a stone" ever since I've known her yet tells me I don't need to lose any weight at all despite the fact that her bmi is probably around 23/24 and mine is around 32. I'm not telling her as it might be a trigger and I purposely never engage when she starts talking about losing weight.
A couple of other people I know might (or might not) be judgemental and I don't want to risk having to justify myself at all to anyone. I just want to get my head down and get on with it without any distractions.
So I made the decision not to tell anyone just to keep it simple. My partner knows but is under strict instructions not to tell a soul.

I have another friend who is slightly more overweight than me and I wondered about telling her but I don't want to influence her. I might tell her further down the line but I would rather she came to her own decision about the jabs in her own way. We are both HCPs so she knows about the pros and cons and doesn't need a lesson about obesity from me.
Equally, I absolutely admire anyone who is being up front and open and agree that these medications will one day be talked about as we currently do about drugs for hypertension, high cholesterol, etc.

Good luck! I'm excited to get started however bit worried about side effects. I suppose everything has their side effects tbh though but can't wait to see all of your progress!

Any tips? It's probably been covered but just incase.

Hangryfastjo · 09/02/2025 14:28

Hello All,

Please can I join this thread. I have just ordered from Oushk, so am waiting to see if it's approved.

SW 14stone

I don't have a target as yet, just want to take it a month at a time

Backgroundnoises · 09/02/2025 14:41

Hey everyone. Just finished my first week on mounjaro.

I'm in my late 60s with a 45 year history of dieting. You name it, I've tried it only to regain any weight lost and an extra 1/2 stone each time. From a high of 8 stone overweight, I've been stable at 4 stone overweight for the last 8 years using a low carb diet initially to lose it and 8 hour window eating to maintain it ..

Sounds strange to say but it's not weight loss that is my primary reason for starting mounjaro. I've never been able to control the comfort/binge eating that is at the bottom of my weight struggles, but felt healthy and active at 4 stone overweight so could live with it.

For the last year however, I've developed severe acid reflux and the binge eating I can't stop is causing me huge problems. So I'm trying Mounjaro to attempt to eliminate the "food noise" that leads to my comfort eating....and hopefully to be able to bring the acid reflux under control.

My first week has been very positive. A few minor side effects. More tired, feeling colder than usual, couple of bouts of diarrhoea but that's settled already.

What has been hugely noticeable is the effect on food noise. I have no feeling of anxiety around food any more. In the first half of the week there was noticeable hunger suppression with a couple of meals I just couldn't finish. As the week wore on I noticed I was able to eat more, but the fascinating thing was that I was naturally serving myself much smaller portions with no desire for "unhealthy" foods. It's been like going back on low carb eating without the constant anxiety of that feeling of deprivation.

It's obviously very early days but I'm feeling very excited to see how things progress .... Oh, and I lost 7lbs too!

SW 15 stone 6
CW 14 stone 13
Target weight. Not sure. See where it goes. I look slim at 12 stone but the charts say I should be 10 and a half. Maybe aim for 11 stone.

flipflop76 · 09/02/2025 14:42

Hi everyone. After about a month of researching I'm finally thinking I'll take the plunge. Might order this week with a view to starting next week. Scared about side effects and hearing scaremongering stories about deaths! Currently deciding between Oushk, Ashcroft or Pharmacy2U (where I get other meds from).
I'm currently 17 stone and a bmi of 37.5. I've been this size for 5 years and am so unhappy. It's time (I think!).

flipflop76 · 09/02/2025 14:43

I've also got a small hiatus hernia and take omeprazole for acid reflux so I'm hoping I'll be ok. Hoping the weight loss will help!

Ohsoverytired11 · 09/02/2025 14:43

Pen arrived and just taken first dose whilst everyone was out. It was easier than expected. Didn't hurt at all. Maybe that's because I've built a good layer! I'm not sure how quickly it works but I haven't felt hungry in an hour which is quite good for me!

Itsbathtime · 09/02/2025 14:58

Bloody hell husband just back from work trip and has Covid! Found out after I’d spent a full day eating with him and then a night sleeping next to him. So not what I need as well as side effects! Am feeling OK day 3 but tummy still pretty crampy and slightly nautious in morning - then by lunchtime feel ok. But now I’m not going to know if it’s MJ or Covid if I start feeling rough! I guess if I’m still fine by wed/thurs will take my injection - but prob skip a week if down w Covid! Wot a pain!

Zazu44 · 09/02/2025 15:37

@Backgroundnoises this sounds like me! I'm in my 60's too and I'd really like to knock the binge eating on the head as well as losing a few st.
It way harder as you get older and past menopause and I'm fed up of feeling miserable and fat.
Good luck - took my 1st dose yesterday

YourOchreSloth · 09/02/2025 15:57

Hi everyone, I'm 44, was 19.5 stone at my last WI. I've been approved for Shemed Mounjaro and my injection is due to arrive Tuesday. I am so nervous but excited too. My first goal is to be 16 something as it has been a couple of years since I saw that weight.
Looking forward to chatting on here with people at a similar stage.

I started today after two weeks of procrastination.
SW 95 kg
No idea of end target but so useful to know what others experience and opinions are !

Ke11 · 09/02/2025 16:52

Even though I feel like some of the effects have worn off pretty quickly, I think there's more happening than I realised.

This weekend I've found it very easy to distract myself from eating e.g watch a TV show, game for a few hours, read, all without the previous constant snack nearby.

Today for lunch I had half a jacket potato with beans and cheese, normally I would have gone back for the other half but something was telling me to stop there. About 5 mins later I started noticing I felt really full, as if I'd had 3 times as much food, almost to the uncomfortably full stage. I guess over time I'll be able to tune into more "normal" hunger cues.

I do feel like a lot of this for me is psychological. I have Adhd which is known to affect the way I notice and respond to bodily functions like hunger etc. For as long as I can remember I've had to have a stock of sweets and snacks nearby, always have food on me like a cereal bar or something, I've never been to the cinema without taking at least 2 big packs of snacks and a big drink. It'll be nice to get out of that mindset finally.

FunnyCrabDance · 09/02/2025 16:54

Anyone else finding/found it hard to decide if they are feeling anything/if its working on week one?
Im not very sensitive to medication in general i think, for example, i dont tend to get stomach upset from antibiotics and have managed to start, increase, decrease and stop antidepressants over the years without feeling any unwanted symptoms.
So far, thankfully i feel fine. But the thought of food isnt repulsive to me, I'm making a conscious deliberate effort to eat smaller amounts of healthy foods. Tbf I'm not actually craving cake, biscuits, ice cream, when normally i would be each evening...
But the effect seems so subtle and different from other peoples experiences of zero appetite, so i'm questioning if its even there or just in my imagination! Only time and more doses will tell i suppose.

imdesperatedan · 09/02/2025 16:56

So today I’ve eaten -

handful of crackers this morning, then threw up
lemon yoghurt thing (shouldn’t have)
a portion of plain chicken and light Philadelphia for lunch
half a pasta ready meal thing (muscle kitchen, low in fat) with a matchbox size of cheese grated onto it
skinny whip bar and grapes for snacks

Bit tired and tummy pain this morning, that was eased by throwing up to be honest albeit could do without that every day! But definitely finding it easier to avoid junk foods and stuff I’d normally go for - McDonald’s, Greggs, etc etc.

I’ve found it’s either one extreme or the other - my aunty is very, very pro jab - two closest friends are appalled. One’s a GP which doesn’t help. The other friend follows a nonsense diet though (eats only one food group) so I’m less inclined to believe anything she says about dieting.

I have told work - my manager was a bit ‘oooh, I wouldn’t!’ but colleagues were mostly supportive. I think because I’m so visibly big, they get it. It’s bloody horrible being this size (my jeans are a 32) - I panic that I must smell, and that people are judging me!

imdesperatedan · 09/02/2025 17:01

What I would like more than anything in the world is to be able to buy clothes in normal shops. Right now I can only go to specialists with big sizes. I’d love to be able to buy stuff in Tesco or New Look, or River Island etc. I’ve never been able to.

Febnewbie · 09/02/2025 17:13

Hi everyone

I have been dithering about whether or not to go for mounjaro for months but finally went for it on Friday - typically having waited so long, I am now super impatient for my pen to dispatch 😂

I ordered from Cloud pharmacy and it shows as "processing" - I am going away for half term so really hoping it arrives next week..

I am 5'3 and 13st 7lb

I feel like I generally eat reasonably healthily. My problem has been that every year or so, something or other happens to add half a stone (stressful period at work, holiday, etc) which I then can't seem to shed. When I was younger, I could but since I turned 40, I can't seem to.

My DH is a bit of a sceptic about the injections, I think mostly because although he has had weight issues in the past, he manages to lose weight really easily with a bit of exercise. I haven't told him yet, not sure if/when I will.

CottonCandyLand · 09/02/2025 17:41

Anybody else NOT told their SO that they're on Mounjaro?

Me, although we don't live together so maybe that isn't what you meant.

No intention whatsoever of telling him, even though I think he'd be supportive if I did

Ohsoverytired11 · 09/02/2025 17:50

CottonCandyLand · 09/02/2025 17:41

I nearly didn't... he's never been overweight and has a much better relationship with food than me so I knew he wouldn't get it. But I took the plunge and told him. I started it off by saying "you won't understand this but remember it's my body and my choice.." I got a raised eyebrows and response of "well it's up to you". He's not said anything since!

The only other person I'm a bit nervous about telling is a friend who is the same weight as me but follows this aggressive team RH programme and is openly negative about mounjaro, including posts on facebook which to me are a bit unkind. I suspect there's a bit of jealousy that some people can afford it which isn't an option for her. I'm just not bringing it up to her.

Hi all,

Joining because i think I'm going to take the plunge and order my first month tonight. I am 5ft8 and 90kg, so my BMI is 30.1.

Turning 40 next year and I really don't want to start my 40s fat. I've tried to lose two stone for the best part of a five years and it's only getting harder/creeping on slowly.

Really worried about it not working and my greed being stronger than the drug 🤣
