Hi to everyone on the new thread

BackToWegovy · 07/01/2025 07:05

Hi everyone. Thanks for the new thread. Still ticking along here. Had a six month review with my provider so a more detailed form to fill in and new photos submitted. Nice opportunity to think how far I have come over a longer period.

Azuresky68 · 07/01/2025 18:33

Evening everyone! Quick update from me ..21 weeks on MJ with 22 pounds loss. 6 more pounds to goal. An average of 1 pound a week but I wouldn't have done it without MJ...out of those 21 weeks I was lucky enough to have 6 weeks holiday (I am retired and making the most of life) I have been looking into maintenance and there is a thread for that. Will post the link. I am also on the August starters thread too as that's when I started. The threads have been a massive support too. On 12 5 mg soon in a push to get the last and hardest bit of weight off. Best of luck to everyone.

Azuresky68 · 07/01/2025 18:36

It's an everchanging situation, so it's only worth looking at when you are near to maintenance.

@LeafUsAlone thanks for the new thread so quickly!
@Azuresky68 our journeys are so similar. I feel I’ve been stuck on 22lbs for weeks - that’s because I have been!
Ive been eating well this week, 3rd dose of 12.5 I think I’m on. I’m retching a bit in the mornings which is a new side effect, again I’ve had hardly any. I’m trying to have less wine which is my only vice. I don’t normally lose weight when I do dry Jan despite being a daily drinker, maybe mounjaro will be the first year I do!

Do you have much more to lose? Maybe grit your teeth and give up the wine? You could try it for a month and see if it makes a difference? I love wine but it's not my friend ...I can't leave an open bottle in my fridge. Different with gin and beer. I don't drink when I am home in the UK because it uses up too many calories. Not saying i dont miss it though! Do you log everything you eat and drink?

Pinkyp22 · 07/01/2025 21:51

@Ifyounevergiveup
I am thinking about going down in dosages too, I cant deal with the 3am 💩
Ive got 2 stone to go, which seems a lot but I think as long as I've got mounjaro in my system I can continue with this mindset

Sadteacher · 08/01/2025 19:42

I don’t log my food at all. It’s a bit annoying having to still try hard when others can barely eat. Though I’m grateful not to have the side effects like you @Pinkyp22 !
I do worry about going up to 15 and weight loss completely grinding to a halt after a few weeks.

Ifyounevergiveup · 08/01/2025 19:44

@Pinkyp22 Ooh, that’s interesting. I was thinking about going back to splitting my doses so I have half the amount, but twice a week. That seemed much kinder on my gastrointestinal tract 🤭

The worst of the 💩 only lasts for a day or two
But I am very reluctant to go up doses now.
I am still have these wierd niggling pain in my upper stomach, I am wondering now if it is digestion related as bowels seems to be my most severe symptom, at first it was constipation, now it's violent 💩 at 3am after jab day 👀🤔
I think I have decided to reduce to 6.25 or 6.5mg this week, just to let see if it eases the 3am toilet trip and these pains. I feel a little bit defeated by it all.

Ifyounevergiveup · 08/01/2025 22:26

@Pinkyp22 oh, dear heart, don’t feel defeated - it’s such a sad word! My heart’s breaking for you! Just remember how creative you’ve been in the past with making the doses work for you. You were the one who made me think of splitting doses! I can really understand that this pain is literally nagging at you, and it must be taking up a lot of head space. Just remember, diabetics have been taking this drug safely for years; it isn’t brand new, it’s got a track record. It’s much more likely to be wind than anything worse; and that’s not me trying to be funny to cheer you up, wind can really hurt and it makes sense in the context of how Mj works. Reduce by all means but don’t convince yourself you’re failing, you’re just not. Keep on going, girl.

MolluscMonday · 09/01/2025 00:22

Hello all.

31 weeks since first jab here, although I have skipped/delayed a couple in that time for various reasons. 28lbs off and I’d like another 10ish off I think. I get married later this year and I don’t want to be thin, I just don’t want to be self conscious for once.

Have just gone up to 12.5, first jab tonight. Am a bit nervous tbh although I haven’t had major side effects so far, mostly tiredness.

The slow rate of loss is frustrating, isn’t it- gone are the days when I could just eat a few less carbs and see weight fall off! I’ve always had issues with blood sugar control though and MJ has definitely fixed that, so I plod on. It’s lovely not to feel a slave to the food/shaky cycle.

Azuresky68 · 09/01/2025 09:27

Morning all! Freezing in Yorkshire so the roads and paths are lethal. I haven't been out since Saturday but have enjoyed being very lazy and home alone. In the past I wouldn't have stopped thinking about food but none of that 'food noise' anymore.
Got my friend to take a photo and I can really see the difference so feeling super motivated.
I emailed pharmacies offering maintenance with specific questions and have got all the replies - no reply from IQ Doctor. It's between Cloud and Ousch and it's going to be down to price. I haven't added up how much I have spent on the jabs but if I feel guilty I tell myself that I don't have a flash car, posh house, jewellery or designer clothes and don't want any of that. Being a 'normal' weight is one of my biggest goals in life. Let's hope I can keep it off! Before and after photo shows what a difference it makes when you are a short arse like me 🤣 (now under 5 foot!) So 22 pounds in 21 weeks and 6 pounds to get to my goal. That will take me to BMI 25.4 at 9 stone and I don't want to go under that. The scary thing is maintenance 😱Have a great day and remember a pound a week will get you there eventually. Even if you are in the early stages of your journey, you are going in the right direction. It's taken me years x

I started tracking on MFP in 2012 with lots of breaks. Before 2012, I had gone up to 14 stone. The graph shows my progress from 2012 to the present day!

Well done on your success 🙌 Every pound is a win and you are definitely going to get there. Have a wonderful wedding day feeling fabulous 👌 I am also going up to 12.5 mg even though I have only 6 pounds to go..I wanted to see what it was like and got £60 off with Pharmacy2U so it 'only' cost me £145 Inc postage. It definitely gets harder to lose weight as you get older..MJ is a miracle!

Pinkyp22 · 09/01/2025 14:29

@Ifyounevergiveup
I had a really good chat with the specialist diabetes nurse at work today.
Interesting she said all the consultants are currently keeping all patients on mounjaro at 5mg! Obviously this is diabetes patients not people taking for weight loss. She says the lower doses have been enough to completely change thier HbA1c ( blood glucose) etc. But the most weight loss has been reported on the higher doses.
She said because the nhs only started prescribing it in the summer, shes had no patients shes taken off of it yet.
With this bloody pain thing, she says it could well be trapped wind 🤣👀 frpm the delayed digestion but sounds like im a bit sensitive to the higher doses, if I was going to have any of the serious complications I probably would have by now.
Its common practice for them to advise going down in dose if side effects are too much, so I think thats what I am going to do.

Ifyounevergiveup · 09/01/2025 15:09

@Pinkyp22 well done, I think you have a very wise colleague! And going down a dose will be an interesting experience. Let us know how you get on, won’t you?

@Azuresky68 look at you, you bombshell! That just shows what a huge difference slow but steady losses make. You look terrific.

@MolluscMonday may I add my congratulations? What a lovely thing to be looking forward to. You have a lovely balanced attitude. I don’t think many of us are at 12.5 yet, so be sure to let us know how it goes!

MolluscMonday · 09/01/2025 15:11

Thanks @Azuresky68. We will get there! Only side effect so far is a bit of a headache. I’ve had half a jacket potato and a couple of spoons of beans so far today and feel like i’ve gorged on Christmas dinner…

@Pinkyp22 that’s really interesting. I’ve had decent (not overwhelming) appetite suppression from 2.5 and my blood sugar control improved almost instantly but the actual weight loss has been slow and hard so I am hoping she’s right and it’s all about to come falling off me!!

MolluscMonday · 09/01/2025 15:13

Thank you @Ifyounevergiveup! It’s second time round for me; I feel very lucky to have found the love I have :)

BackToWegovy · 09/01/2025 15:51

@Pinkyp22 I hope the lower dose works for you. I feel like I go on all the time on here about my experience on Mounjaro but I know I am not alone due to stories on Reddit and I think it’s interesting. I was ok until my fourth 10mg dose and after that I developed diarrhoea, vomiting , sulphur burps and abdominal pain for the days after every dose at or above 4mg that I took after that even after a break and working up slowly. I gave up and switched to Wegovy and I am alright so far. Hopefully you won’t have the same experience and will be ok on the 6.5mg

Pinkyp22 · 09/01/2025 17:46

@Ifyounevergiveup @MolluscMonday @BackToWegovy
Really interesting to speak to a real live person actually prescribing mounjaro.
Not aure why I didn't speak to her her before I started it tbh, hindsight is a wonderful thing.

On thr trapped wind theory, I do feel a bit of a bloody tit, I am a student Nurse and didn't really consider it. I have to say I have come home this afternoon and tried some peppermint tea, 👀👀 well lets just say things have happened 💨. She may have a point 😳🙄😅

I'll keep my chat with the GP as I would like to have some bloods done so I am gearing up for a judgmental chat ( my own GP surgery is not quite as nice as the one I work in).
Feeling a lot better about things now. It jab day today, so I will take a lower dose, it can not harm.
I did talk to her about BMI and I realise BMI is not the most accurate tool to use, but nevertheless its the thing we all want to achieve isn't it. Well I am 5ft 9, with size 8 feet I am large built so perhaps my aim of 2 more stone off is not actually necessary.
The lowest weight I have been is just over 12 stone, and I felt enormous then 😂 but looking back I was healthy and absolutely was not fat.

Sadteacher · 09/01/2025 19:08

@Azuresky68 wow, you look amazing! I read something on Reddit that said people will happily pay a couple of hundred pounds a month to have a nice car, why would you feel guilty spending it on yourself? I am lucky I can afford it but slightly begrudge it as it isn’t the best value when you’re a slow loser.
@MolluscMonday congratulations, what are you hoping to wear for your big day? What a goal to aim for!

Azuresky68 · 09/01/2025 21:00

Thanks to everyone for nice feedback on my progress photos. I wish I had a full length one of me at 14 stone. I only have a photo of my face and it shocked me into the start of a very very long journey. I am too embarrassed to post it. Nobody can believe it's me 😱
