There are so many weight loss injection threads, but I thought I'd start this for anyone feeling a bit deflated by their slower than average loses. It can be disheartening to see others losing multiple lbs per week when it is a slower process for some.

Hi gang! I've been having a bit of a crappy first month (4th MJ jab this Friday).

I'm 44, with 2 little kids, SW 130kg, GW (in late 2025!) 75kg. Fingers crossed!

Felt like a good loss in week 1, but my period is very late (probably because of the jab?) and on top of that I had an allergic reaction (to a new cosmetic not the jab!) a week ago and got all swelled up and needed steroids that I'm still taking...

Haven't dared step on the scales this week but pretty sure I'll weigh roughly what I started out at if I do!

Anyway - I did say when I chose this route that it'd be a marathon not a sprint - I've yo-yo'd all my life so am more interested in changing habits, eating better, moving more, than having the exciting sudden whooshy losses.

I'm hoping to just keep on keeping on and see where I am in a year! But obvs at the same time losing 2-3 stone in the first 3 months would have been a total dream... 😅Hey ho! It's still loads better than the uncontrollable stress eatig I was doing until I took jab 1, so in the long-term I'm still hoping for the best.

LeafUsAlone · 22/05/2024 18:50

Hi @WoolyMammoth55, welcome!

I agree it would be nice to have a big whoosh of a loss, but it may well be better this way round - who knows!

I weigh 150kg. I'm on week 9 (I think!) of ozempic and my weight hasnt really moved much at all - up and down the same 2 kg! I feel some change in my tighter fitting clothes, but only a small one.

I'm focusing on increasing my movement and small frequent meals with a little more protein and veg in than before. I probably also need to up my fluid intake generally.

So I'm another kg down this week which I'm very pleased with. Perhaps the 1mg is starting to have some effect!

OP posts:
LeafUsAlone · 25/05/2024 14:02

I'm starting to get used to the sude effects now I think. I'm still tired but it isnt as crippling as it was last week. Still some headaches on and off, and Im always a bit nervous about whether to stray too far from easily accessible toilets, just in case! I have aboht 12 weeks before I start a new job contract and would love to buy myself some new work clothes for that, in a smaller size! Think I might try and shake things up a bit this week to see if it has any effect.

Thought I'd check back in here as I saw it on similar posts underneath the mountjaro thread. I'll ask if it could be moved to the other board

I'm in. Will be taking my first 5mg today, have just finished a month on 2.5mg and haven't even lost a kilo in that time. Maybe 1-2lb if really lucky despite the initial decreased appetite which tapered off last week. Anything close to a realistic goal weight seems like a pipe dream even with these injections and gradual lifestyle changes. Exercise didn't happen at all last week as I've been feeling very run down and feverish. But I'll try again later this week.

I did get very dejected at all the big losses on the other threads so happy to hide here 😃

LeafUsAlone · 08/07/2024 12:26

@knackeredcat it can feel really disheartening to see others losing so quickly! I have a very long journey ahead of me as well, and on the one hand it feels healthier or more sustainable to lose more slowly, but at the same time it makes the journey even longer!

I'm on week 8 of 1mg ozempic, so week 16 overall and am now 10lbs down. My losses seem to have sped up over the last week (although still not as quick as others), so I wonder if it has taken this long to start working properly in my system whereas for others it starts working much quicker?

ToBeOrNotToBee · 08/07/2024 12:33

Joining as I'm now on the 7.5 mounjaro and have been losing 1.5lbs a week on average. Seems slow compared to some other losers, but it also confirms my suspicions that most of my weight gain is hormonal and not purely eating too much.
My shape has changed massively though, gone is the strange belly with a fat upper gut, hanging over the belly button, and a fat lower belly. Much smoother now.
Strangely 2.5 killed my appetite, whilst the 5 didn't. 7.5 seems to have done the trick again.
I've also not experienced any side effects, no sulphur burps, no loose bowels and no constipation, no sickness either.

LeafUsAlone · 08/07/2024 17:29

Welcome @ToBeOrNotToBee, that's great you're seeing physical changes! I can feel a tiny change in my clothes, but not enough to be visible or to be a drop in clothes size. I havent done much exercise yet, but I am starting to feel I have more energy now so Ive managed some garden work most days. I do plan to use going up the staircases as exercise and I have an old weight I can use as well.

OP posts:
Spacerader · 08/07/2024 20:02

I'm a slow looser.

SW 110kg
CW 105.4kg

I've been on mounjaro 7 weeks

Didn't shift anything on 2.5mg ( went up and down the same 2kg) I felt some appetite suppressing on days 2-4 then it wore off

5mg I started seeing small losses. Have felt more appetite suppression, but again it wears off by around day 4/5.
My body has always seemed to process medications quickly.

My onky real side effects are some tirdness when I first started, feeling a little cold sometimes and a little bit of constipation. But nothing that wasn't manageable or even that noticeable.

Hoping for better results off 7.5 mg.

So in 7 weeks I've lost around 10lbs. Averaging just under 1.5lbs a week.

littlemousebigcheese · 08/07/2024 20:26

Finally found my people! Considering stopping tbh as I'm spending £250 a month and the money is the only thing I'm losing!
I'm on 7.5 mg now and feel constantly sick and headachey but haven't lost anything. I don't understand at all as I'm not snacking or eating any junk now and I was a BIG snacker before. I'm maybe eating one meal a day and so the weight should be falling off but it's just.. not? I've had two lots of blood tests as drs are concerned why I'm not losing any. I think in total I'm 3lbs lighter which is sod all really.
Feel so depressed about it as this was my last hope. I've tried everything but I'm still a size 22, still disgusting

fiddleleaffig · 08/07/2024 21:14

This is such a lovely thread.

I started wegovy on 1st November last year, I am a very slow looser and averaged just under 1lb a week, and back in March/April hit a plateau where I lost nothing for six weeks.
However, those very small losses added up and I have dropped from just over 13stone, bmi of 30.1 and a size 16, to 10stone9lbs, bmi 24.9 and a size 12. I honestly could not believe it when I put on a pair of size 12 jeans and they fitted perfectly! I took my last dose just over a week ago so am now learning to manage my food take on my own (so far so good but I believe it takes a few weeks to totally leave the system), but I thought I'd just bounce on here to say good luck, stick with it, you won't regret it and before you know it you will hit your goal

This was me until recently. I was 5lbs down for ages, and the last few weeks have sped up a little, but it has taken 16 weeks to get to this point. It is very expensive though and so disheartening when you thought you'd found the answer and it feels like another plan gone wrong.

Thank you @fiddleleaffig! I'm so pleased that it's worked for you and you're managing your wean off. I have occassional concerns about dealing with food noise again, but I have a lot to lose so it is far enough away that I can ignore them for a while! Best of luck!

OP posts:
WoolyMammoth55 · 09/07/2024 15:05

@littlemousebigcheese please don't call yourself disgusting! There are lots of us who are or have been size 22 and we're still valid human beings, loveable and loved, despite the fatphobia that makes us hate ourselves Flowers

Have you tried upping your water? Are you eating lots of protein? Are you managing to do any extra movement to help shift things? I've started a mad 5 rhythms dance class where everyone goes mad and no one judges - it's loads of fun and I get sweaty and happy and it's everything that being picked last in every PE lesson my whole childhood WAS NOT! Really recommend trying to find something that you love doing if you can.

I haven't properly checked in here for ages but here goes:
SW 130kg, BMI 46
CW 121kg, BMI 43
GW 75kg - assuming I'll get there in late 2025!

I'm 44, in perimenopause, with an underactive thyroid AND managed to have 2 separate severe allergic reactions in the first 5 weeks of MJ which were both treated in A&E with steroids... So there's lots of reasons why my loss has been slow and all things considered I'll take my 9kg loss in 10 weeks with much gratitude!

Before I started MJ I was in a downward spiral, stress eating to self-soothe in my stressful (sedentary) new job, and actively gaining weight because I couldn't stop the nightly bingeing.

To get from there to where I am now is actually a massive turnaround! So even though there are lots of folks who've lost much more than I have in the same timeframe, I'm not comparing myself to them - I'm comparing myself to ME. And on that basis I'm doing great.

Wish you all good things and hope that we can all feel good about ourselves, wahtever size we end up at xx

LeafUsAlone · 09/07/2024 19:36

@WoolyMammoth55 you always have such balanced advice, thank you!!

@littlemousebigcheese I agree with Wooly - you aren't disgusting. That is what society has made us feel.

A great podcast for some issues surrounding food and dieting is Life After Diets with Sarah Dosanjh and Stephanie Michele. open.spotify.com/show/7Mg0Jknc5JpjuMpcwU0D77?si=2rOWO_oXSJ-A31O1NxQrEA They do focus on how to live life while prioritising health and ridding all the food rules from your head. I have completely changed the way I look at myself and food through this and a looking at intuitive eating

Edited because I embaressingly spelt both names wrong and added in a link (not sure if it will be clicky though 🤔)

No weight loss at all this week. 5 weeks in and lost just under a kilo. Not going to lie, I'm gutted. I will stick with it and hopefully things will improve at higher doses, but in all honesty I lost more weight when on methylphenidate for my ADHD (forced to stop because of increased heart rate).

Mourning my all-too-brief spell of being slimmer and more organised up to last year 😞

littlemousebigcheese · 10/07/2024 14:16

I think I just keep seeing people talking about weight loss injections as a magic trick that'll have the weight gone in no time and celebs dropping weight quickly. Why pay so much for 1 or 2kbs?!

littlemousebigcheese · 10/07/2024 15:09

It is very demotivating especially as I have so much to lose. Currently 15 stone and would like to be 10 which looks very unlikely unless I hack a leg off 😂

LeafUsAlone · 10/07/2024 23:55

@knackeredcat it is so disheartening. I would give higher doses a try though if you're able to stay on. For me the full on appetitie suppression didnt kick until week 16, and I wonder if this might be the case for more people but some (very understandably) stop injecting before they reach that point if theyre not seeing the losses they expected.
I agree with @littlemousebigcheese that the drugs are touted as being miracle cures that will wick away the unwanted pounds and you'll be slim in no time - but the reality is quite different, and especially for those of us with a lot more to lose. Ive had many weeks where Ive felt dejected and even had a little cry because I felt that, once again, I was failing. But we all react so differently, and maybe your body needs more time to let the weight go. I think sometimes the body can hold onto weight if it feels food intake has been sporadic or insufficient for it's needs, so it might take more time to trust that you will keep feeding yourself (that sounds a bit jumbled and like hocus pocus, but I think there is some truth in it - our bodies aren't machines afterall)

I hope tomorrow brings a better day for us all <unmumsnetty hugs>

@LeafUsAlone Blimey, appetite suppression kicked in with a vengeance early on Tuesday (I inject mid-morning on Mondays). I've barely eaten anything the last couple of days, just drinking lots of water. Couldn't even face my protein shake for breakfast. Surely some loss will come from this...🤞

I have found my thread!!

Been on wegovy for 9 weeks now (did have 1.5weeks off in between).

I've lost a grand total of 4.4lb. The last few weeks I've had a niggling little pain in my rib cage but it seems to have eased. ive also had a lot more nausea and acid these last few weeks but I think thats more related to the social events.

I'm sticking with it though in the hope that maybe i just need to get up to the higher dose to see better results.

at this rate i should be at my goal weight around 2032 (and bankrupt Grin).

sentfrmmyiphone · 11/07/2024 21:36

i've been using wegovy since October last year and have lost 3 stone 4 pounds in that time. i am losing roughly 1 pound a week now, so about 1/2 a kg. i'm actually happy with this. I have about 10lb to go before i am where i want to be weight wise. It's not my recommended weight, its still on the heavier side for me. I'm 57, I'm 5ft 8 tall and currently weigh about 91kgs and sit at roughly a comfortable uk size 16. I've been a 10/12 before and to be honest i just looked ill.. so i am aiming for a comfortable 14/16 so another 4.5kg and i think i will be where i need to be.

i am concentrating on healthy eating, and exercise because my plan is to reduce the doses and hope that ive learned enough good habits that the weight does not come back on
