Hi all, was looking for some advice. I injected myself in my stomach today, but a fair amount of the medicine was on my skin.

This hasn’t happened to me before…so I’m worried I haven’t had the full dose this time.

Has this happened to anyone else? Were you okay that week?

I’m not sure how this happened as the needle was definitely in my skin, I do find holding the end of the pen down to administer the dose whilst keeping it in place a bit finicky

Ifyounevergiveup · 14/08/2024 13:05

@Chucklesisters @Mounjaroattheend hey guys, I am feeling a bit more bouncy today solely due to everyone’s support and empathy; dip in and out, Chuckle, but we’ll never leave you or anyone else behind. I’m (mostly) resigned to be one of the walkers at the back rather than the sprinters at the front, and Mjat is bang on…have I been 11 stone anything at any point for years? No, I haven’t (except for SW weigh in last Christmas Eve when I didn’t eat or drink anything for a day before weighing in) 🙄

Also I Did Maths and realised that my eight pounds is broadly a quarter of what I wanted to lose. And my smart scales tell me it’s all fat and my muscle mass is now nearly 30% instead of the 24% it was when I started Mj. So let’s trundle along together and love the fact that we all “get it”! ❤️

It does happen sometimes and you definitely haven’t done anything wrong! I find it helps to depress the plunger completely when I inject but then hold still (I count to ten) before pulling the needle out. It will have looked like you lost a lot when the liquid has run over your tummy but you probably lost very little of the dose. Keep on keeping on, don’t fret!

IReallyNeedThisToWork · 14/08/2024 13:49

@JamieFrasersSassenach I use Ancient and Brave marine collagen. It's a tasteless powder that I add to a mug of green tea every morning👍

butterfly0404 · 14/08/2024 13:54

Just popping back on, since my whinge that I was static I've given my head a wobble and I'm back in the game.

Had a weekend away where I didn't inject before I went and moved my 3rd jab from 5mg pen to this Monday just gone rather than the Friday before so as to minimise any side effects.

Probably didn't eat as healthily whilst away but wasn't awful by any means. Did loads of walking along the beaches and swimming. Only gained a pound when I weighed on Monday and today that seems to have gone.

I'm still a very slow loser despite calorie intake being between well under 1000 cals (save for last weekend but then only around 1500) I think that's just the way my metabolism is and ill never be able to eat anywhere near what's considered a more 'healthy' calorie intake; Anything above 1100 and I'll gain.

Start MJ 21st Jun, 7 weeks ago
SW 84.7 kg
CW 78kg
TW 65kg

Will be ordering my 2nd 5mg pen and considering med express (previously with SOP and then Zava but my warm pen delivery has put me off) and looking for the best discounts.

wonderingwhatsnext · 14/08/2024 13:58

@TheOverweightFortySomething I emailed them at the weekend to ask how long orders were taking because I needed to plan around a holiday. They replied (two days later!) that orders are currently taking approximately 4 days to be dispatched.

Edited for typo

@Ifyounevergiveup and others, sorry to bring back last evening’s thread into the middle of the next day, but I’m also one of you. And it hurts. So much so that I had to unwatch this thread and mute the FB group because I’m being left well behind in the happy race so many of us here are running.

i’m in such a dark place with SH thoughts because of being highest performer in the slow loser club (untested by data of course). I’ve been on 12.5 and 15mg for the last two months and yet all I see on these threads are people losing 4-5 stone on very low dosages and celebrating maintenance time. People reaching their target weight in two months and posting pictures at 9 stone. People constantly asking here how they can count clicks on 2.5 and 5mg while I bemoan that 15mg is as high as they can go. I won’t quit MJ but I’ve had to stop reading these threads and groups because it bloody sucks to fail at something yet again.

I will always be proud of you lot, however. Keep celebrating.

Sorry the losses are going slowly. Have you seen any improvement on 15mg? Hopefully the longer you take it, it starts working for you. I believe they are researching higher doses in the US, but that could a while away before these become available for sale. But if you're losing and don't mind the cost, stuck to it and hopefully it will get the weight off eventually.

Shall we start a slow loser thread? Mine has been approaching 4.5 months and I have lost nearly 1.5 stone - nowhere near the stone people say they are losing in a week etc.

I don’t think it’s as effective for me, and it probably isn’t for you but I just have to think - would I have lost 1.5 stone without it? I was at an absolute stalemate prior to this as I just could not shift weight which was continuously increasing.

The loss has been very slow, but with that comes benefits in that I don’t have loose skin and no visible stretch marks as the skin contracts.

I was similar in April when I saw people take the 2.5 and say they’ve lost 2 kg a week consistently and I was really disheartened that it just wasn’t happening for me.

As long as you are losing something, and you feel healthier then please don’t compare yourself to others losses as they may have more to lose.

Perhaps a change to Wegovy or Ozempic is required if MJ really isn’t working?

I believe there is a thread for slow losers somewhere. So there is a few of you that lose slowly! Probably good to go have a read to see how other slow losers are getting on.

imnottoofussed · 14/08/2024 14:56

I also think people need to reframe their thinking, nearly 2lb a week is not slow, it's just that the other people are fast losers. I'm trynig to not see myself in a negative light and accept that everyone is different and this is just how my body works.

I'm also not losing as fast as others but am glad to be 32.5lb down after 18.5 weeks as there's absolutely no way I would have been able to lose that much alone, it's the most I've ever lost on any diet/healthy eating plan previously.

Yes I've occasionally been jealous of other peoples losses but I'm happy with mine as it's better than no loss at all.

Also I was only losing an average of 1.4lb per week on the 2.5 and both 5mg pens, on my first 7.5 that's gone up to 2.3lb per week despite calories, protein and carbs being similar.

Timeturnerplease · 14/08/2024 15:03

If there is a slow losers chat, could someone please link it? Tried searching but can’t find anything!

Love these chats and will of course stay on it, but I’m now 2.5 stone down and only lost 1lb in the last month, despite eating even less and moving up to 10mg. It’s not like I’m close to goal either; I’m only 5’1’’ and still have another 3 stone to go to get into the top of a healthy BMI.

@butterfly0404 hi butterfly! Can I be nosy? I was just wondering why you’re staying at 5mg when you buy your new pen? Did you have side effects when you went up from 2.5? If it was a private decision don’t hesitate to tell me to butt out!

I had a struggle today too. Decided to do 5mg. The needle did not seem to go all the way in (like it had hit something!) and it was really hard to push the plunger. When the full dose was done the needle popped out with medicine on my stomach without me being able to count to ten. It looked like I had injected just under the skin as it was raised like a blister. I massaged it and the raised area disappeared. I took the dose at 9am and was not hungry until 4pm. So good suppression all the same.

Greyrockin · 14/08/2024 16:48

I'm a slow loser too - but it might be because I'm older and post-menopausal? my tracking app tells me I'm losing around 1.8lb a week on around 1100 - 1200 cals a day. I'm always exhausted and MJ hasn't improved that, so I haven't started any exercise, I'm drinking lots of water though. I'm coming up to my 7th week on MJ and have lost around 12lbs. I've gone from obese to the high end of overweight and currently have a BMI of 29.8 - we'll get there.

SnacklessWonder · 14/08/2024 16:52

Hello! I did my first jab of 2.5mg on Sunday, no side effects so far other than a metallic taste in the mornings and the first two days I was so thirsty.

I'm wondering what I am meant to feel like as I still feel quit3e hungry a lot of the time however I am not reaching for the food - like I've got more willpower than usual? Definitely feeling a bit fuller when I eat and get quite bored through my evening meal.

Sticking to 1200 calories but I have actually not hit that in the past two days and I am 400 off today after allowing for dinner so will have something else afterwards. Last night I had a little dessert but felt like I was forcefeeding myself. Hopped on the scales this morning and was 2lb lighter than Monday.

SW 11st 7.8lb which I know isn't ridiculous but I am short and that puts my BMI at around 31.4. GW is about 9st 5lb. (Although TDEE calculators tell me my goal weight should be no more than 8st 3lb 😨)

I have had side effects which have been variable but some days quite awful. Mostly the most awful reflux for which I've upped my omeprazole. I have a general feeling of nausea and a worsening of my already awful constipation. Headaches have also been an issue but aren't intolerable.

I may titrate up if my loss stops altogether but atm I'd just prefer to stay on 5. Today I've just felt wiped out and 'hazy' , hard to explain. I jabbed on Monday and the side effects always seem worse 48hrs after.

Ifyounevergiveup · 14/08/2024 17:09

@butterfly0404 oh gosh, I’m sorry you’re having to go through all that! I wonder if the funny hazy feeling might be low blood sugar? I seem to remember from one of the early threads that an injection hits its peak at day three, so what you go through makes perfect sense. I’m filled with admiration for anyone who has side effects and battles through.

TheOverweightFortySomething · 14/08/2024 17:35

Argghhhhhh. MedExpress are driving me mad.

Numerous emails back and forth asking for information which then takes them days to respond too.

Been trying to call for 2 days and no one picks up the phone.

Just a thought If your always tired have you checked vit B12 levels and iron? Just to rule them out & thyroid.

Dies anyone have any tips or suggestions on dealing with nausea? It's so bad and the only thing making me want to quit 😪

Actually, I do get anaemic and have been meaning to pick up some ferrous sulphate, thanks for the reminder. I had full bloodwork tests in May and all was okay though. I think it's related to autism & adhd - all my energy goes into being present at work and interacting with others, and I have a fairly long commute on public transport. After all that I want to chill and recalibrate and not think about, or do, anything else.

That's my excuse anyway 😁

Take dimenhydrinate tablets.
Or Avomine.

You can get Equate travel sickness tablets on Ebay. They contain dimenhydrinate 50mg.

They're about £13 for 100. I always keep some in the house for nausea.

Thank you @Time4changeagain for linking that thread, I thought I’d seen one before but couldn’t find it.

for all the slow losers - do you get any side effects? I’ve never had a single one and can eat out and have a few drinks without worrying about being sick or having the runs etc. Obviously this doesn’t apply to everyone but some of the super responders who lose a lot of weight quickly will also be putting up with side effects, some of which sound pretty horrendous, I’ll stick with being a plodder 🙂
