Morning.
I can't tag NippyCrab as haven't posted in this thread yet but hope you see following what you were saying about being awake and lump in throat.
I sometimes get the lump in throat feeling and have learnt that (of course may not be for you) but for me it's a sign of reflux even if I've not got the pain as well. I take an antacid if I'm uncomfortable and it almost always sorts.
The somewhat disturbed sleep is probably the thing I like least about being on Mounjaro. I stopped drinking alcohol in 2020 and started sleeping deep and dreamless sleep and felt righteously smug about it I can tell you. I have returned to Middle of The Night ALL The Worries Waking (not every night) and I DO NOT LIKE IT!
So all to say you are not alone and sending empathy to you.

I have the night worries too. I hate it!

Jimmyneutronsforehead · 07/08/2024 12:01

Yes my first sign of reflux is a feeling like a lump in my throat.

I have had to do a bit of an elimination diet to see what takes too long to digest on mounjaro as it slows down digestion and that can make carb heavy and dairy things hard to digest later at night. I also try and keep meals light after 6pm. This has helped me.

Antacids are very hit and miss and work for the burning but not the lumpy feeling I find.

Sadly my favourite thing to come home to after work was a massive bowl of pasta. Its total comfort food, but I have instead rekindled my love of pasta salads for lunch.

Hi, it is great reading about peoples success's and experiences with Mounjaro but has anyone not had any results? I started on Wegovy in Jan '24 and went up to full dose and not 1lb lost. Then switched to Mounjaro and just about to go up to the 10mg dose next week and still not 1lb lost!
I dont have any side effects which is great but not losing any weight all year is not so great :( I do watch what I eat and am getting really despondent with spending so much money a month and nothing...
Has any one else had this experience and has it changed for them at some point?
thanks :)

What's your height and goal weight and what exactly are you eating regularly and drinking? What's your activity level like? Have you done a macro calculator? Do you have any pre existing conditions that impact your weight? Any medications? How long have you been on mounjaro?

Oof that's so frustrating, I'm sorry you've not had much success on it.

Question - is it working in the sense that you feel some degree of appetite suppression?
Are you aiming for smaller/normal portion sizes, are you eating within a calorie deficit, are you tracking your calories (it's surprisingly easy to eat too much if you don't track), are you following a healthy diet, are you drinking at least 2.5 liters of water a day?

If the answer to all is yes - I'd say it's probably time to re-evaluate if it's the right medication for you. Usually your pharmacy should be asking for updated weight every time you order a new pen, and should be reaching out if it seems like you're a non-responder...

GoSummer676 · 07/08/2024 12:08

@KrankyKumquat not all magnesium work in same way. Taking at bedtime didn’t help me but I take a dissolved one in morning and afternoon as a drink which has helped. I get mine in homebargins as it’s the best value one v content I’ve found in a green & silver tube.

@clanbailey is it worth tracking calories for a week using myfitnesspal or noom to just check how much your eating v your TDEE and BMR. That may help to see if you’re eating an amount that will help you lose maybe? I’m focused on eating more protein and less carbs has helped me.

3wDavid · 07/08/2024 12:10

@Jimmyneutronsforehead if they're moving to 10...it would be at least 3 months (1 on 2.5, 1 on 5, 1 on 7.5).

TtheC · 07/08/2024 12:17

I have an interesting contribution to the thread.

I ended up having several glasses of wine last night (hadn't intended to drink much on MJ at all), and weirdly not only am l less hungover than usual, but I'm not even hungry.

Usually after too much wine I'd be ravenous for carbs and would get a subway/macdonalds, but I don't even want to eat. Very interesting! So the MJ completely obliterates even hangover hunger.

clanbailey · 07/08/2024 12:19

Thanks all for the responses really appreciated, here is a bit of in depth info:

I am 5ft 7in and 18st (sadly) I have no health conditions or medications and work out 5 days a week (1hr with cardio and weights) I am in that fat but fit category.
In the past I have effectively lost weight and kept it off by doing 12hrs of endurance exercise a week. As soon as I lessen my exercise the weight piles on and doesnt shift.
I believe I have a screwed up metabolism which I was hoping this would help rectify?
I track my calories and macros using myfitnesspal and am currently around 1300 cals per day, keeping my protein macro high.
Water has been lacking but bought a couple of 1ltr bottles a few weeks ago to make sure I drink at least them both each day and try to hit 3ltrs - this is only a recent thing though.

It would be sodding typical if I am in that small percentage of non-responders sigh . I am hoping that someone has had the same experience and then suddenly BOOM it started to work 😳

GoSummer676 · 07/08/2024 12:23

That sounds tough @clanbailey im also a fat but fit person. Your age can also play against you im in my 50s so I was definitely insulin resistant with menopause impacting me a lot. Is it worth the cost of a private endocrinologist assessment instead of MJ to check out all options?

pinktransit · 07/08/2024 12:36

I'm on the last day of my 7.5mg pen (1 x 2.5mg, 2 x 5mg,1 x 7.5mg) and I'm STARVING. I was hungry yesterday, and managed ok (but I did snack for the first time in 20 weeks), but today is insane. I am very grumpy and fed up, and going to raid the fridge for a bigger than usual lunch.
It's totally my own fault - got back from holiday late on Saturday, was out on Sunday and haven't been shopping so living on leftovers with Not Enough Protein. My car is in for repair today (driving long distance with a noisy wheel bearing probably isn't recommended), so I can't go shopping. I did get something unidentified out of the freezer last night, so I have something to cook and a bit of salad. I'm hoping that it's something like pheasant breast and not chicken livers, will check shortly now that it's defrosted.
I may have to resort to a protein shake that I have in the fridge, but I really don't like any drink that's thicker than water so that might not work. A salted caramel something from Aldi I think, bought on impulse ages ago. I look at it every so often and think 'shall I? Nope'. Will also have to check the best before date 😀

WitchyBits · 07/08/2024 12:49

Well I've taken the jump and put an order in today. Got on the scared and was horrified to see I'm 110kg

There's quite a few protein shake brands that are basically flavoured milk, barebells and for goodness shakes come to mind x

Wow thread 19!

DP so impressed with how it is working for me that he is now going to try it for himself. He has moved from a very fit and active job to a sedentary one and is finding the weight creeping up and up (he was already obese to start with).

yes that is something I forgot to but in my details - I am 52, I will look into an endocrinologist assessment I think as apart from beasting myself with exercise which I dont have time to do at the moment nothing is working.
Thanks for the suggestion :)

@ObsidianTree thanks for the new thread, I only joined on the last one, but it’s very inspiring reading everyone’s progress since being on Mounjaro.

Its my second weigh in tomorrow, but already had a nsv in the gym yesterday when someone I haven’t seen in a month commented on me looking great, despite really struggling to get to the gym in the last 3 weeks.

@clanbailey hope you get some answers with an endocrinologist.

@WitchyBits welcome, we’ve all been there with that shock of stepping on the scales. Ordering Mounjaro has definitely been the best thing I’ve done recently.

@clanbailey If you are anywhere near Manchester I highly recommend Annice Mukherjee for endocrinology. She is an amazing woman who had breast cancer fairly young so avoids taking HRT for herself due to the increased risk she would have and has tackled her own menopause with lifestyle, diet, exercise, etc. She is, however very positive about HRT for those women who want it
I think her understanding of women's health, fitness and hormones in addition to her years of general endocrinology would make her my first choice and have spoken to patients of hers who all rate her very highly

My MJ journey so far

SW (18th March) 14st 8lbs
CW 11st 13lbs

Total loss 36.5lbs

Very similar!

I started on 15th March at 14st and am now 11st 2lb so 40lbs lost.
Not sure how much to go as I feel a BMI of 25 would be enough but I'm just going to keep on going and reassess at 10st.

Love seeing everyone's successes
Got to say I switched my scales to pounds a few weeks ago as I get really hung up on stones...it's removed some of the emotion and I had no idea I was so close to being in the 10s! So big push now I'm spurred on to get there before we go away in a fortnight 🤞

GoSummer676 · 07/08/2024 14:10

I hope you can get some answers @clanbailey I’d think your age is definitely fighting against you. I was also just getting no where with calorie counting and exercising daily until I started MJ. I’m lucky it’s worked for me but if it hadn’t I was going down the endocrinologist route as I’ve been on HRT for 8years now and had repeated blood tests for thyroid & diabetes but nothing was flagging up yet I knew something wasn’t working. Someone posted on the other thread about insulin resistance and I was like bingo that fits me. Good luck and keep going to try get some answers x

12th jab tomorrow (started 23rd May)

SW 14st 10lb
CW 13st 1lb

Currently on 7.5mg

Wont lie im a bit disappointed i havent lost more 😪 really need to stop comparing myself to others losses i know. Oh well- onwards and downwards

Edited

I did dose 18 last night and have gone from 14.12 to 12.11 in that time so I really know how you feel. Slow and steady means we are more likely to keep it off when we get there so keep at it🙂

BeautyPageantDropout · 07/08/2024 14:31

I feel like a bodybuilder checking the protein content of everything. I had 200g of prawns for my lunch and apparently that’s 50g of protein, which is a lot. Equivalent to your average 8oz steak.
