Mounjaro / Wegovy with > 5st / 30kg to lose

I know, yet another Mounjaro / Wegovy thread, but I wondered if anyone else with a lot to lose would be interested in a safe space to chat. The other threads (both the long-runner and the newbies) are great but I can’t believe how relatively little some people have to lose. I know it’s all relative, and two stone can be a lot of extra weight on a small frame, and it’s great that they are doing something for their health before they end up in the same position as me… but in my more ungenerous moments I think about what a dream it would be to be ‘only’ two stone overweight, and wonder how many posters I will see come and go while I plod along.

So, if any of that resonates and you don’t think I’m an utter cow for having these thoughts, come and chat! I will start. I don’t feel comfortable sharing my current weight but am happy to say that my starting BMI is over 40 and I have 7.5 stone / 47 kg to lose. I’m very tall but there’s no kidding myself that my current situation isn't very unhealthy indeed.

I’m halfway through my second week on 2.5mg Mounjaro and so far I have lost 8lb. I have not really had many side effects apart from occasional loose stools, but I am also not experiencing the significant appetite suppression that others describe. Right now I am finding MJ a useful tool to take the edge off while I count calories and keep an eye on my macros to keep my protein intake up. A very welcome effect is that it has completely removed any desire to drink alcohol, which is helpful as a fondness for wine is part of how I got so fat in the first place. Nevertheless I am looking forward to moving up to 5mg and hopefully experiencing more appetite suppression.

Anyone else?

Thanks for the thread Op. I’ve also been struggling with how much more I have to lose than the other two threads. I’m 130kg so around 50kg’s to lose to still be ‘overweight’ but not obese. I’m on week 2 of 2.5mg and I’m down 4kgs. Really hoping to get to 110kgs by end of August (and annual holiday!) MJ has been working great for me, I just hope I can stay on some kind of maintenance dose at the end as I’m already scared of what post-MJ looks like!

It does seem like a mountain to climb all I can give advice is, to set small goals. I set mine to be lose 1st. Then it was to get to X BMI, then it was to hit the next BMI tier. I did not look at it ‘omg I have to lose 5st’ as that’s just so overwhelming. Also I didn’t know how I was going to feel at particular weights. Once I hit 12st I felt really good so I have been trying to carry on but I feel less pressure to do it fast and trying to enjoy my new level of mobility and fitness, rather than focus on all the things I still don’t like about my body. So some of my goals now are to improve the mobility of my hips, increase leg strength, that kind of thing rather than a simple weight goal

My second advice to everyone is build in good habits now. You don’t need to exercise to lose weight necessarily but you should start to incorporate it into your lifestyle, because this is what will help you maintain further down the line, and also it’s so good for your mental health and a great motivation to build up a level of fitness and health to keep you going, and also a very good distraction/new habit from older, kinda negative habits (like snacking in evenings). Good new habits will help with older habits like drinking alcohol to unwind too. By exercise I would suggest for sure, walking, but also Pilates/yoga and even weights can be actually quite enjoyable. I don’t like to run or do mad cardio - so I don’t!

KeepingUndercover · 29/04/2024 08:25

Beginning of week 8 here and I am 0.8kg down, 10.2kg in total. The downside of weighing in kilos is if it's not a whole number a bit of my brain goes "boo" and I have to remind myself that actually it's great. My eating was a bit weird last week for various reasons so I'm tracking my food this week to make sure I've got a better diet.

I should be injecting today but I'm holding off until tomorrow as I've had terrible sulfur burps the day after the last 3 weeks and I'm getting my hair done tomorrow. I cannot subject my hairdresser to that 😂

I love this advice! I follow similar. My current goal is to get to under 100k. 99.9 will be enough!

And from there, 95, then 5kilo increments.

I like the exercise tip. I have started yoga and recently bought a rowing machine (although I am scared of it). I need to get to grips with it, soon enough!

I normally weigh and track in kilos because I have no emotional attachment to them! It means I can just count a loss as a loss rather than worrying whether it’s enough.

Can’t decide whether I’m cold because it’s a MJ side effect or because winter seems to have returned…

I do want to get back to exercise, but I’ve also recently been diagnosed with sleep apnea and at the moment learning to sleep with a CPAP machine is making me more tired, not less! Im desperately hoping that at some point it all ties together - more sleep, more energy, more exercise, less weight…

Welcome to the thread @UKMum95. Congratulations on a fantastic loss so far. I hope you'll stick around to offer and receive support for your weight loss journey.

Perhaps for transparency you could update the multiple posts you've made on all of the Mounjaro / Wegovy threads to let others know that you'll also benefit from 50% off if they use your link.

They are reporting different losses on different threads! Is it a bot or something! Trying to get business for Voy?

Week 1 almost done and I'm due my second dose of 2.5 tomorrow... just wanted to update and say hello and well done on the fabulous losses and thanks for the inspiring tips and support on this journey.

If if wasn't for @VelociraptorsVelociRapping I'd of delayed starting till after my holiday and I'm so glad she helped to push me ( in the nicest way possible) to not delaying my start.

I'm still on hols .... Uk based... weather pants... very chilled.... and have managed w1 pretty well with major appetite supresson that is only weaning this morning a little. No other side effects to note except a little bunged up. Sleeping really well.

I'm a bit gutted I can't weigh myself till home on Saturday morning.... I know its ridiculous after a week but I feel thinner , stomach not as podgy and waistband looser....

What has been astounding is that my DH hasn't noticed a thing... not commented on tiny food portions, no wine, no sweet treats.... not once.... Im finding this so strange.

So today is day 6 or day 7 .... can't decide what to call it?

Do you call injection day.... day 0 or day 1?? Just curious . I inject in the morning so I think its probably d1 for me.

VelociraptorsVelociRapping · 30/04/2024 09:50

Well done @omega4ever! I am so pleased to read your positive post and I am delighted that you are having a nice time on your holiday. What an amazing gift to yourself to realise that you are able to have a break and lose weight! I hope you are in one of the parts of the UK where the weather is slowly improving. It is sunny here today and the temperature was actually in double figures (just!) at 7.45 when I left the house.

I am sleeping well too, which I am pleased about as I had read the insomnia is a common side effect. I find that I am pleasantly tired in the evenings and am going to bed earlier. Not drinking is undoubtedly improving the quality of my sleep, too.

Third 2.5mg jab for me tonight!

Just placed my order today with Voy (not using the spambot doscount link! But I have a discount link to share if anyone wants to PM me - first month £114...)

They make you send photos to confirm your weight and I just want to WEEP at mine... I am up for this!

My best results in the past have been low-carb high-protein so I will eat that way from now on. I'm really sedentary which is another piece of the problem-puzzle so I do think gentle movement will help me - aiming for a 10 min disco in the living room with the kids today as it's rainy here!

Really proud of all of us for valuing ourselves enough to do this for us! Here's to nice easy side-effect-free sustainable losses for us all 🍸

Lanawashington · 30/04/2024 11:33

What time of day do you all inject? Mine is due to be delivered today between 12 & 1 pm. Not sure whether to just go for it straight away, or do it in the evening in case I need to sleep through side effects?

Pops1985 · 30/04/2024 15:47

I do mine in the morning usually but had to do it last night because I was travelling. I haven’t had any side effects though so the time hasn’t made any difference to me. Good luck!

I’ve done evenings and mornings and not noticed much difference. My side effects usually take a day to kick in anyway. Although that’s only on 5mg, I was fine on 2.5.

Lanawashington · 01/05/2024 10:59

Thank youSmile I ended up taking it last night

VelociraptorsVelociRapping · 01/05/2024 12:25

Just checking in. Third 2.5mg jab last night and feeling food-quiet this morning, if a bit thirsty! I did a Peloton ride and am enjoying feeling stronger. I'm practising gratitude for all that my body has done for me so far, and how it is responding now to a bit of love after years of too much food and booze and not enough sleep or exercise.

OldGreyBoots · 01/05/2024 14:10

Hi all, great idea for a thread!

Took my very first jab last night, feel a little strange today but I'm out and about OK!

SW: 103.4kg
TW: 70ish kg (I'll be happy with anything!)

I've never been one for exercise Blush but trying to get out for a walk every day (Pikmin Bloom is helping with that!)

This morning I had a smallish bowl of Weetabix as it was the only thing I felt I could manage and I was heading out, we'll see if I stay feeling full!

Excited to see how things go Smile

Lanesdown · 01/05/2024 14:26

Did you specifically choose a certain day of the week to inject? Is one day any better than another? I'm thinking if it wears off towards the end, then I don't want that to be over a weekend when I'm more susceptible to snacking!!

I inject on a Monday because the kids are back at school and I am at home so can deal with any initial side effects without people around. I'd time it for when you can most deal with side effects if they happen as for me they've been the first day or so and then eased off.

LieutenantBilletsCajunFries · 01/05/2024 14:50

Hello, I have just started with my first injection of Wegovy last night. Noticeable lack of food chatter today. Putting out a small portion of yogurt noticed how it looked like a lot in the bowl (weirdly). Also no fleeting thoughts of treats, what can I have etc. Just not really interested, nothing major but a definite lack of connection towards food. Most noticeable side effect was my usual coffee seemed a bit tasteless this morning, and I didn't really enjoy it as I usually would.

I'm finding it a bit funny as I've still got the slightly edgy buzz of a calorie deficit, but not the hunger or food obsession that usually goes with it.

Early days of course.

I have 5-6 stone to lose really. Current BMI is 36.5, first aim is to get under 30, and finally to get back to a healthy BMI.

Dogsbreath7 · 01/05/2024 20:45

I chose to inject Friday mornings because weekend gorging was more difficult for me as it’s easier to forget about food when busy at work. Also if there are side effects it is easier to deal with them at home while they subside.

As it happens no or little side effects anyway and although there is a wearing off and a feeling of an empty stomach is more noticeable the appetite suppression is still effective, even at end of the week.

first 5mg dose this Friday so will see if there are more noticeable side effects.

Btw the way I managed to get the ‘bonus dose’ By gripping pen in my teeth then cranking round to the ‘1’ mark. Once you ‘break’ whatever is stopping the pen it’s easy to hand wind round.

I would be interested in hearing from anyone who has completed their weight loss journey with wegovy and how they transitioned off altogether - or down to a maintenance dose. Plus if they kept off or not- mixed messaging abounds.

VelociraptorsVelociRapping · 02/05/2024 09:41

@Dogsbreath7 did you get extra needles for the bonus dose or did you just increase the amount you took with your fourth jab?

OP posts:
Babadoobiedoo · 02/05/2024 10:36

I have been on Ozempic/Wegovy since August last year, and currently approaching 4st down and my original target. Trying to decide what to do next in terms of continuing vs thinking about weaning off / reducing the dose. It is such a weird place to be - I never thought I would get to where I am now and when I started would have been pleased just to lose 2-3 st, but now thinking about setting a new target to put me more squarely in the ‘healthy weight’ zone.

My rate of weight loss has slowed down to 0.5-1 pound a week (vs 2-2.5 /week in early months), but at this point it is almost effortless. Overall it hasn’t been totally pain free, but it has been the easiest weight loss in my life, having tried and failed numerous times to shift much more than half a stone.

my one bit of advice for those starting is to focus on eating fruit and veg and protein. I was totally knackered in the early months - like no energy for anything - and found eating more fruit/veg really made a big difference. I think when I was starting I ate less of everything, when what I needed to do was reduce carbs and fat but keep my previous quantity of produce. Over time I have found myself turned off by foods I previously would have considered a treat, but it wasn’t instinctive and took a while for me to figure out what I really needed / wanted in my diet.

Dogsbreath7 · 02/05/2024 12:52

VelociraptorsVelociRapping · 02/05/2024 09:41

I went with Asda not cheapo first prescription but balanced by the fact the higher doses are more reasonably priced. Asda sends out 6 needles so yes a fresh needle.

I tried a second dose mid week equi distant between Friday injections but won’t do it again as I have had zilch appetite and coupled with travelling restrictions ended up on ‘omad’ ie one meal a day. Reason was you do feel an easing at the end of the week and I thought it would help transition to higher dose. I plan to use it as a 5th weekly dose which will help with costs.
