Mounjaro / Wegovy with > 5st / 30kg to lose

VelociraptorsVelociRapping · 26/04/2024 08:41

I know, yet another Mounjaro / Wegovy thread, but I wondered if anyone else with a lot to lose would be interested in a safe space to chat. The other threads (both the long-runner and the newbies) are great but I can’t believe how relatively little some people have to lose. I know it’s all relative, and two stone can be a lot of extra weight on a small frame, and it’s great that they are doing something for their health before they end up in the same position as me… but in my more ungenerous moments I think about what a dream it would be to be ‘only’ two stone overweight, and wonder how many posters I will see come and go while I plod along.

So, if any of that resonates and you don’t think I’m an utter cow for having these thoughts, come and chat! I will start. I don’t feel comfortable sharing my current weight but am happy to say that my starting BMI is over 40 and I have 7.5 stone / 47 kg to lose. I’m very tall but there’s no kidding myself that my current situation isn't very unhealthy indeed.

I’m halfway through my second week on 2.5mg Mounjaro and so far I have lost 8lb. I have not really had many side effects apart from occasional loose stools, but I am also not experiencing the significant appetite suppression that others describe. Right now I am finding MJ a useful tool to take the edge off while I count calories and keep an eye on my macros to keep my protein intake up. A very welcome effect is that it has completely removed any desire to drink alcohol, which is helpful as a fondness for wine is part of how I got so fat in the first place. Nevertheless I am looking forward to moving up to 5mg and hopefully experiencing more appetite suppression.

Anyone else?

Thanks for setting this chat up. I’ve got at least 6 st to lose and if I succeed I’d still be classed as at least overweight but I’d be happy at that level.
I’m 5’5 and due to take my 7th dose (2nd of 5mg) tomorrow. I lost 5lb first week and a couple of lbs since but have been away for 2 weeks. Holidays are terrible for me usually - take it as an opportunity to eat/gorge on what I want (once put 7lb on a 4 day cruise).

However, this time I have been totally disinterested in food, sometimes just eating one meal a day (albeit whatever I want - fish & chips etc) so tomorrow’s weigh in should be interesting. I’ll let you know.

ScreamingNotWaving · 26/04/2024 16:34

Me, too! Before children I weighed around 8st (worked hard to stay there) but was ‘ok’ until the weight went on and on. After perimenopause and menopause I was up above 16st (I’m 5ft so I look like a barrel on legs) I could hardly lose at all. And losing weight was so slow, and so hard - weeks to lose a couple of pounds, then one disheartened slip and I’d be back where I’d started or worse.
Started MJ on the 23rd Feb - and I’ve lost 1st 3lbs. Did 1 month of 2.5, and now I’m on the second month of 5mg, 10th shot Sunday. Definitely ready to go up to 7.5 but wasn’t available so stuck with 5.
I’m still slow but it feels like it’s really working - I’m really aware of not feeling hungry and of the foods that my body just doesn’t want, like fried food. I’ve yet to go off wine.

Someone on another forum said something that really resonated with me. She said, in the past when she heard people say, ‘no thanks, I’m not hungry’ to biscuits or other food, she thought they were lying. It made her realise the food noise was always there and even though you can try hard not to listen, it’s there working against you all the time. I think that was true for me.

Hi there... I'm keen to join in with the long haul peeps... Great idea.... its such a mammoth task thinking about mega kilo losses but having started and being full of enthusiasm I'm sure we can crack this.

I started MJ Wednesday. 2.5mgs. Was considering delaying till after a short break uk holiday but someone on here posted why delay and make excuses so I jumped on the train.

Really pleased so far. Early days d3 but all going well. I felt weirdly empty last night and if it wasn't for the jab it would of been hunger pains and I'd of been out of bed scoffing bread and jam. No nausea or side effects. Appetite mildly suppressed.

My starting BMI is >40 too. I haven't weighted less than 100kgs for over 12 years despite eating healthy foods and doing lots of exercise. I put on and loose the same 5kgs but never get further. I am using nutracheck to track input and aiming for 1500 calories per day high protein and lots of veg and fruit.

Nutracheck will only let me aim for a 20% body weight loss..... and then my BMI will still be 33..... I can't really imagine weighing that much again... I'd feel so tiny... last time I was that size was probably 25 years ago and I don't think as an adult I've ever been under 25 bmi... I was a happy curvey 14 in my wedding dress 35 years ago and would love to get there again.

Dogsbreath7 · 26/04/2024 21:36

Yes joining here!

I’m on a journey to lose 40kg (although I would be happy with 30kg). Started 3 weeks ago and just taken 4th 2.5mg dose and will move up to 5mg next week. I have lost 9kg to date though suspect good portion was water retention initially.

no side effects- only heartburn after eating a garlic and chilli sauce laden chicken kebab so lesson learned there. I am taking aloe Vera tablets as recommended elsewhere.

its been miraculous- appetite suppressed immediately. It does wear off a bit by end of the weak so a little bit more will power needed.

no real diet plan- fasting 16 hrs easily (12 usually my max) and no evening munchies! I am going to bed early 9/10 ish but think now I need to focus on upping protein as I am eating so few calories- 700-1200/day- as I just don’t feel like eating. It’s like a switch has gone off both in my brain and my stomach.

Still drinking loads of herbal tea (turmeric) but not drinking 3l water recommended elsewhere. No exercise other than dog walking and weekly swim.

given the expense I am concerned about what happens after weight loss target achieved and whether this is a ‘for life’ commitment.

if you are prevaricating - go for it. I have paid in the past £200 for 1 week juicing diets for a few pounds of weight loss, and with the savings on the crisps, biscuits, choc bars, sweets, takeaways and booze, it’s self paying.

Menora · 27/04/2024 08:05

I am no longer taking this medication and I am now nearing my goal (4st lost, 11lbs to go) so I might not stay on your thread long term as I am further down the line but I was in the 5st club when I started a year ago

But I did resonate with your Op that it can feel frustrating. I work with 2 ladies who have just started on the drug and have 1-2st they want to lose, they are constantly talking about how fat they are however…. all 3 of us are similar weights (the only difference is I used to weigh a lot more) so they keep telling me I look ‘amazing’.. but also saying they think they are fat and can’t wait to lose the weight. Make it make sense! So am I still unacceptably fat in their eyes? I know they don’t mean it in a cruel way but people need to get some perspective at times

Setting good habits is how I have managed to keep it off and this includes exercise, you can start slowly but this is likely one of the keys to maintenance long term from the studies

good luck all

TimeIretired · 27/04/2024 08:07

Update: got on the scales this morning and am overjoyed to see I have one back from my hols 2lb lighter - never had that before. Still very early on in my journey , weight wise but 🤞it carries on in the same direction as I won’t be able to pay for it forever!

VelociraptorsVelociRapping · 27/04/2024 09:05

I am so pleased to see you all!

@TimeIretired that’s a brilliant loss after a holiday, well done! I was the person who suggested not waiting until after your holiday @omega4ever and I am glad it is going well so far.

@ScreamingNotWaving your comment about food noise resonated. I can remember once being offered cake at work, and my very slim colleague saying ‘oh, no thanks, I had.a massive piece of my daughter’s birthday cake yesterday.’ It blew my mind that she would naturally have a mindset of eating in moderation across the course of a week, and be able to have treats but then be able to moderate for the next day. I am trying hard to shake off my mindset that everything resets every morning, as in the past this has been so closely linked to my desire to binge.

Welcome @Dogsbreath7. It’s interesting to see that we all seem to be experiencing minimal side effects. I would be so interested to know if the people who are very sensitive to the medication also happen to start at lower weights. So many dosages are calculated according to weight and I wonder if the MJ is slightly ‘diluted’ in a larger body? As you can probably tell, I am no scientist.

@Menora you are very welcome for as long as you like. It is inspiring to hear from someone who is further along the same path as us!

OP posts:
Menora · 27/04/2024 09:10

@VelociraptorsVelociRapping I now say this to people about cake and they will scoff at me like I have 2 heads or are mentally diagnosing me with an eating disorder so I can feel pressure to give in to ‘just one piece of cake’ as if it does reset every day but I agree, this takes a long time to embed into your habits of looking at your week holistically and really being honest about whether you can eat the cake. I see the calories like my bank balance - I have X amount and if I spend it all on cake, I have less to spend elsewhere!

Lanawashington · 28/04/2024 13:28

I’m a similar weight/BMI and have just ordered my first Mounjaro pen! Hopefully should be arriving on Tuesday this week. I’d like to lose 4 stone, but realistically could do at least 6 or 7

Grandmalyn · 28/04/2024 14:18

Just going up to 5 mg today after 4 weeks. Lost 7 lbs week one then only 1 lb weeks 2 and 3. Went on holiday week 4 and stayed the same so that was a bonus Hoping the new higher dosage will give me big weight loss in week 1. Food cravings coming back after 4 weeks but not been able to kick the wine 😩😩lower consumption though so hoping for better results this month. That 4.5 stone loss goal seems a long way off

VanellopeVonSchweetz99 · 28/04/2024 16:17

Hi all, I have lost 5 st in 13 months, first on Ozempic then Wegovy, still on the 1.7 dose and about to come off (BMI now 21 and a size 10, was a size 20). It's been a wild ride and the best thing I've ever done for myself. I'm 51, 5'3, had carried the weight for about 8 years. Very much an emotional eater after some challenging years in my 40s. My focus was a nutrient dense calorie deficit, no exercise beyond dog walks (I just didn't have the fuel for it). I have learnt so much, and still enjoyed some lovely food/holidays. Feel free to ask me anything if you want, happy to support.
It's not been without effort, but still a miracle drug for me. And made me quite philosophical in a way, about the sh*t society we live in where slim privilege is so very real. But also realizing I was pretty clueless about nutrition. I think there is so much we don't know about hunger and the psychological and physical mechanisms surrounding eating. Above all it's given me a real gratitude towards my body and the things it can do with a bit of help.
Edit: I would have classed myself with a high functioning alcohol dependency as well, and the way the jab switched off my nightly wine cravings has astounded me. I still enjoy a few glasses at the weekend but I really can take it or leave it. Mind blown.

Lovinglife57 · 28/04/2024 16:23

My partner has 4 stone to loose he’s on mounjaro it’s been 2 weeks his appetite is definitely suppressed and it’s working I cannot believe it

WoolyMammoth55 · 28/04/2024 16:28

Ladies, I've got 8-9 st to lose - can I join you please? Where should I be buying this from please?

@VanellopeVonSchweetz99 if I could be writing what you are writing in 13 months I'd be absolutely over the moon! Thanks for the inspiration x

KeepingUndercover · 28/04/2024 16:54

Hi, this is a great idea. I’m on the main MJ thread and it’s lovely but I do feel like a bit of an outlier sometimes so it would be nice to be with some others who have a lot to lose.

I am nearly at the end of my second MJ pen, 5mg. I’m doing another 5mg after that as I’ve had more side effects on that dose and wanted to give it more time before going up again. I have lost 10kg, BMI was 44 and now 40.3. It will be nice when it’s in the 30s again.

I do find it hard when people are talking about how enormous they are at weights far less than mine. I don’t feel enormous, my weight doesn’t stop me doing much. But I was noticing my fitness was going (I’ve always been fat but I’ve usually also been fit) and when I started eyeing up chairs with arms and worrying I wouldn’t fit I decided enough was enough.

I have lost weight before, got down to under 12st and was still technically overweight but it felt like a decent weight for me and I looked pretty good. I’m not desperate to get to a BMI of under 25. Definitely under 30 though. For now I’m focusing on 10kg at a time. My next block now I’ve done one should see me in double figures for weight so bring it on.

justsaxy · 28/04/2024 17:01

I have 30k to lose, am using SaxendaGrin

AgathaMystery · 28/04/2024 17:08

Hello - I’ve got 28kg to loose (I’m 5”2) - I’m 6.6kg down.

I don’t fit the criteria for the thread but just wanted to say good luck to everyone.

VanellopeVonSchweetz99 · 28/04/2024 17:20

@WoolyMammoth55 I have reliably used QuickMeds throughout, although I'm sure there are cheaper options out there. It used to be you fill in a form with them online to be approved to purchase.

Lanesdown · 28/04/2024 17:31

Oh thank god OP for this thread! I so agree with everything you've said. I've also got about 7 stone to lose and have just ordered it. I have been looking everywhere for a discussion for those who have a lot to lose can be found!! Those with a couple of stone to lose, I don't find helpful, and i just can't relate to them.

Will be following with interest.

I would really recommend you reading a lot about the drugs before you sign up, if you haven’t already, maybe look at the early Mounjaro and WeGovy threads on here as well as whatever else you can find. I think it’s really useful to know what to expect beforehand and be sure it’s right for you.

You can get private prescriptions from a number of places. I use MedExpress, I know others have used Boots, Asda, Voy and others.

PissedOffNeighbour22 · 28/04/2024 18:23

I'm also on the main Mounjaro thread but was a lot heavier than a lot of people on there.

I started on 21st February and was bmi 40.4 at 15st 12lb. My expected weight per nhs is between 7st 7lb 🤯 and 10st.

I'm currently on 5mg MJ due to the supply issue with 7.5mg and the weight came off really fast at first then slowed right down.

I've lost 2st 7lb so far and my bmi is now 33 which I'm really happy about.

@VelociraptorsVelociRapping I'm also not having the appetite suppression others talk about, but I'm a lot fatter than most of them so maybe I just need the higher doses for that 🤷🏻‍♀️.

@Menora @VanellopeVonSchweetz99 wow, that's amazing. Congrats 🎉

TimeIretired · 28/04/2024 18:28

@WoolyMammoth55 I currently get mine from Numan. First dose was £179 and the second £229. I then said I was cancelling and they offered 20% off but just had an email to say they’re charging me £199 for the next one so I’ve told them to stuff it! There’s plenty of other suppliers out there offering it much cheaper.

TimeIretired · 28/04/2024 18:30

Ps I’d also recommend reading the main MN post about Mounjaro if you decide to go with that as it’s very informative, especially around the side effects etc.

GoingDownDown · 28/04/2024 18:39

Oh yes, can I join!

I’m currently 19st8, NHS says I should be 9-11st. So around 9st to lose.

I’m taking my third dose of 2.5 tonight. Not really had any effects - positive or negative - so far. Already have a 5mg pen in the fridge so hoping it’ll kick in on that one!

whereareyousleep · 28/04/2024 20:14

I have been on wegovy for a year next month. My bmi when I started was 38.7 it is now 31.2. I have lost 3.5 stone with approx another 3 to go. Feltiends I haven't seen for a while couldn't believe the difference. This is slower than others lose but I have an underactive thyroid too which I think has made losses smaller. I'm happy with how my loss is going as I tend to lose at least 1lb every week. I have only this month moved upto the 2.4mg dose to give myself the best chance. Good luck to you all it has been fantastic for me (though I do worry what will happen when I stop).
